Description from the owner
Apartment Andrei sits across from one of the city's most lovely churches, on Bakats ter, a wooded square and churchyard in central Budapest. The apartment has a large balcony that runs its length and overlooks the park. In spring, summer, and fall the Raday utca side of the square is the scene of a variety of street fairs and arts festivals, close enough to be just outside your door, but far enough away not to be bothersome.
Apartment Andrei has a casual elegance for a relaxed and civilized stay. A bit further than our other places from the din of the business district or tourists flocking like lemmings down the pedestrianized theme p...Read more

We have rented andrei several times over the years and always relish returning to this beautiful and well appointed apartment.Though we are very familiar with the city, John Farago consistently checks in to confirm our arrival and comfort. The manager is thorough and available easily, and the driver punctual to the minute! The apartment is exquisite, from the fantastic art and furnishings, to the details of a Nespresso machine, stocked refrigerator on arrival, washer/dryer and even a computer with printer. If you need a bandaid, it's there, along with a fully equipped bathroom cabinet. The location is fantastic, beautiful, and adjacent to one of the great restaurant streets in the city. The proximity to the trams and metro to one of the great public transportation cities in Europe is right out your door.If you want to walk, you are close to great sites, the Central Market, the Danube. It is all close. Whether it is andrei or one of the other apartments in Budapest Vacation Rentals, you can't go wrong. The quality, consistency, privacy, security and locations are without a doubt the best. Don't hesitate - you will be thrilled you made this choice! The best part - it is sheer elegance of a world gone by, and you are now part of it!

Apartment andrei had everything and more. The apartment was extremely well equipped with everything we needed. From a well equipped kitchen to extra linens, movie, books, and gamrs right down to toiletries you may have forgotten. The washer dryer and dishwasher were great to have too. John has lots of information available about the area and the apartment and is very helpful. His property manager is wonderful and I'd highly recommend having his arrange a ride from the airport as it made our arrival so simple. We would highly recommend staying here. Oh, I almost forgot the wonderful treats and the bottle of wine that awaited us upon our arrival. Such a nice touch.

Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in September 2012
Budapest was the favorite part of our European tour; Apt andrei was a delightful location to start and end each day. Expresso (provided) on the balcony each morning was a delightful way to see our quiet neighborhood wake. The music of children holding a parent's hand on the way to school across the church square accompanied our daily balcony ritual. In my dream of a perfect location, there would be a nearby street of bakeries, shops and of course many sidewalk cafes. About 100 feet to the left outside the door, there it is, block after block. Had there been no helpful "An Opinionated Outsider's Guide to Budapest," written by owner John Farago, or no information on reliable drivers, restaurants (Cafe alibi was one of our favorites), grocery stores, bakeries, etc., we would still have had a good experience. With them, provided by a knowledgeable host/owner, we had an extraordinary experience. There were no low points in our Prague - Budapest - Zurich - Paris trip; had to be talked into adding Budapest (the wife prevailed) and it was the clear highlight. We will be back and would not consider staying anywhere else. John and Jean have several apartments in the city; stay in one and just take their advice in every area; you cannot fail to enjoy that wonderful city.

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Our rental experience seemed too good to be true from start to finish. The owner of the property went above and beyond from my first email requesting information. He gave us wonderful information about everything from getting local currency, to transportation, food and shopping. I was comfortable with him from the start, and it only got better as we corresponded. The apartment itself was beautifully outfitted for our stay - spotless, comfortable bed, great shower, and a kitchen we could (and did) use. We loved sitting on the balcony and taking in the feel of the city. We had bakery treats, eggs, milk, cheese and other staples waiting for us in the fridge (along with a terrific bottle of Hungarian wine). The apartment was spacious, with very comfortable furniture. This apartment is not in the middle of the most touristy section of the city, but we loved feeling part of a chic, residential neighborhood, and it was an easy and enjoyable 15-20 minute walk (or cheap and easy 5-minute tram ride) to the heart of the city. This really was a home away from home, and I can't sufficiently write how much we loved our stay at andrei. We will be back!

Our visit to Budapest this past summer was made particularly comfortable was apartment andrei. Situated across from a leafy square with a high church tower, in walking distance to the tram, pharmacy, groceries, and an aTM, the special feature is that it is in a real neighborhood, with a street of cafes, night life, musicians, and good food. Not touristy, it seemed to by frequented by Hungarians enjoying the warm summer evenings. The apartment itself was elegant, with antique side furniture, and a simple modern glass table. The rooms are generous in size, and the kitchen and bath had everything we could possibly want. Coming home to andrei at the end of a day, and having the space to relax in, on a comfortable bed and/or couch, looking out into the green leaves, sitting on the balcony to read, this made it seem that we were living in Budapest. I would rent it again.
Our time in Budapest with filled with the scene of mountains and river, flat lands and unusual buildings. The people were friendly, the tram system workable, and so much to see. It is a city filled with history from many periods including trauma and oppression, freedom and pride. The people are friendly, the walking streets, the central market, the churches and statues make it a fine city for exploring.

My husband and I stayed in apartment andrei for twelve nights in august 2012.
From start to finish, this was a wonderful experience. John was responsive by both phone and email, with a very organized rental process. He provided a wealth of information prior to our trip, including details on the apartment and access, places to eat, how best to get to and fro, where to get what, and so on. We felt very prepared for our stay.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Ilona, who cares for the home. She was most pleasant, showed us about, and had even prepared a selection of delicious homemade pastries for our arrival. The refrigerator was stocked with snacks and provisions, which was a very nice touch after such a long day of traveling.
The apartment was exactly as advertised, with accurate photos. Everything was in perfect working order. We appreciated the wireless internet, and that a computer and printer were available (although we used our own devices). A U.S. power strip was provided, so we could charge our devices easily and didn't have to rely on our adapter. The available cell phone and U.S. phone were nice to have, although we did not use them.
The living and dining room were very spacious with a fantastic view of Bakats Ter, a great place to watch people. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The on-demand water heater and lovely Turkish towels provided nice showers. The kitchen was well-stocked. We could easily live in such a space.
We loved the location, just steps from Raday Utca, a great street for restaurants. Transit was very convenient, with two tram stops in proximity for when we didn't feel like walking.
John checked on us during our stay, via a quick phone call, a nice touch. He also followed up with us after we returned home.
By the end of our stay, we had met the neighbor, who was very friendly.
My husband and I agree that if (when) we return to Budapest, we will look no further than apartment andrei. It is a perfect place to stay. -

Dear John and Jeanne
Thank you for letting my husband and I share your amazing apartment andrei. I'm not sure I can add anything beyond what the other reviewers have written. It would just be a repetition! I have to admit that I will never look at another vacation rental without comparing it with apartment andrei! Every other place that we have stayed in before this pales in comparison! Thank you again! On a side note, I enjoyed reading your book about your father's Hungarian experiences! Thank you once again. We hope to come back to beautiful Hungary and apartment andrei soon! -

Stayed at andrei for 4 nights with me adult daughter. Whilst only one lovely big bedroom, the leather lounge easily converted to a double bed for her. Absolutely everything has been provided for a stay at andrei. We were met at the allotted time by Illona, who had stocked the fridge with a wonderful assortment of basics and some extra special cakes and pastries for our arrival! The art deco apartment was like an oasis in the 35*c Budapest heat. We found the apartment tranquil and safe and secure. It was very easy to walk to cafes etc and the no22 Tram stopped nearby(2-3minutes walk). This tram went along the Danube into Pest and The Chain Bridge to Budapest etc. Very easy for first timers to this city. The owner has kindly and thoroughly made folders of tips and favorites etc..besides being tremendously helpful, they are written with honesty and wit! Wifi and computer facilities were excellent and I could even call my family home in australia for free on the apartment's phone. Amazing!
We loved our stay in this charming and calming apartment! I want to live at andre forever! -

I would totally recommend apt andrei, especially for first time visitors to Budapest. Not only is the apartment comfortable and clean, it is stocked with everything you could want or need...if you plan to go to one of the famous spas, there is a tote bag with towels, an umbrella in case of rain, maps to find your way, recommended lists of restaurants and shopping, and a mobile phone. If you are staying inside, there are books, dvd's, a land line phone, wifi, computer, a bottle of wine and best of all a dryer !! along with the washer. The staff speaks english and you are greeted on arrival and they can offer taxi services and massages. The kitchen is stocked with wonderful pastries, a Nexpresso coffee maker and breakfast fixings. The building is secure and has a lift. You can also enjoy the view of the church and courtyard below from the balcony. In case you don't feel like unpacking right away, the bathroom has shampoo, shaving items, wonderful towels and the bed is made up for a tired traveler ! A two minute walk and you are on Raday u. a street filled with cafes, restaurants and shops. The Farago's have thought of everything and left written instructions and suggestions of what to do and where to go and what ifs.. so if you are hesitant about Hungary- visit apt andrei in Budapest and I am sure you will love this city. I can't say enough how great it was to do business with John and stay at andrei for a few days. The apartment was fantastic. It was beyond well-appointed; there didn't seem to be anything missing from that apartment, it truly felt like somebody's home. It was tastefully furnished, sparkling clean, and comfy. Everything worked perfectly. The balcony was great for relaxing in the evening and having a drink while watching the late night dog walkers on the church grounds. The neighborhood was spectacular as well. Less than a five-minute walk puts you in the heart of Raday Utca, which had tons of awesome restaurants, bars, and treat shops. Just sitting outside and having dinner at the restaurants there will remain a highlight from our trip to Budapest. Then walking the short walk "home" made us really feel like a local.
Sometimes the worst part of renting apartments online is dealing with the owners. John proved that not only does he take his job as an owner seriously, but he also genuinely loves Budapest and wants his renters to feel that same love when they leave his apartments. From the very beginning he answered all questions promptly and emailed to me several neighborhood and apartment "guides" that were so thorough, they could probably be published and sold as travel guides. Lonely Planet has nothing on John! Even after arrival, John called from New York to check in and make sure everything was going well. After departure, John called again to make see if we had any suggestions for improving the apartment, and we couldn't think of a single thing! John is personable, dedicated, and a pleasure to do business with.
I highly recommend staying at andrei and I imagine that any of John's properties would be as well-appointed, comfortable, and lovely as andrei is. We can't wait to get back to Budapest and stay in andrei again! -

We stayed at apt. Andrei for 5 nights in October 2011. Communicating in advance with the owner John was very convenient. He is full of good information and very responsive to questions and providing pertinent advice. This apartment is in a convenient part of the city with easy access to public transportation, both the metro and the bus/tram. We felt safe in the neighborhood at all times of the day and night. The apartment itself is in a nice building. It has been renovated while still maintaining the charm of an older building, for example beautiful molding and doors and some antique furniture blended with a modern kitchen and dining area. The kitchen offered a nicely stocked small refrigerator with items such as milk, eggs, cheese, lunchmeat, etc; a Nespresso machine with plenty of coffee “shots”; several plates of fresh pastries; a wonderful bottle of good wine. There was a washer and dryer, which was a huge help as well as a money and time saver. John provided a bathing bag, which made going to the baths so easy (we went to Szechenyi). We were a family of four, two parents and two adult children. The apartment has one bedroom and the living area has a very comfortable leather couch that folds into a queen bed. Although we didn’t use it often, there is a large flat screen TV and a nice assortment of DVD’s. Also provided is a cell phone, a computer, and power strip that could charge multiple us electronic items. Budapest is a wonderful city, and we could not have picked a better place to stay than apartment andrei. It truly feels like a “home away from home”.

Its away from the hustle and bustle but yet a short walking distance to the Metro. Also very close to restaurants and a wonderful bakery. The owner John was extremely helpful, and even called the day we arrived to make sure everything was in order. He also left us wine and flowers for our anniversary! '"Oh Wow!" was my husband and my reaction when first entering apartment andrei at 11pm on a Sunday evening. The huge lounge/dining room with high ceilings, galley kitchen, comfortable bedroom and good size bathroom looked marvellous. Even better was to come after we rose the next morning and found the additional inclusions in the apartment.
The apartment is well equipped with everything you could possibly want. We enjoyed using the milk frother and the computer with free internet access plus VoIP phone was a bonus. Not only is there a washing machine and clothes drier the owners also leave clothes washing detergent for guests to use!
John Farago, the owner, rang to welcome us and kept in contact over our week long stay.
Our stay at apartment andrei in Budapest was a highlight of a seven week trip through Croatia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The location of apt andrei was ideal for us as, while still within easy walking distance of the city centre, it was in a leafy residential square just off Raday utca. We enjoyed the the neighbourhood surrounding the apartment with the beautiful church opposite and finding the many historical buildings with lovely inner courtyards and suspended corridors.
While I enjoyed walking from Bakats ter to the city centre public transport is close by and readily available. My husband thoroughly enjoyed hopping on and off the trams, trains and buses and exploring the city and outlying areas.
Budapest is a wonderful city with so much to see and do. It is very safe and easy to get around and our stay at apt andrei made it that much more special. We would love to return to Budapest for a couple of months and would happily stay at apt andrei again.
Ps. John's self written guides on Budapest and instructions on how to use appliances were a gem which we read daily. -

This apartment stay made our first visit to Budapest an unforgettable one. It is located in a quiet quarter right in front of an old church. Despite a historic looks of the building, inside the apartment was modern with all the first class equipments, including wifi, washer/dryer, shower, flat screen TV, plus the world best coffee maker. The apartment was also impeccably clean and very comfortably prepared.
What made the stay extra special were two things.
One was the location. Right outside the apartment stretches Rady Street, on which you find a great selection of restaurants, cafes, small stores, and the best bakery.
We happened to be there on the weekend when they had a music festival right outside of the place. We enjoyed the music, donuts, hot wine, and people.
Another blessing was the owner's personal city guide.
It was helpful, especially with restaurants. We loved all the restaurants and cafes he recommended!
Though our stay was short, this apartment and its location gave us the feel of living in the city. -

Apartment andrei exceeded my expectations. It was a large comfortable apartment. I wouldn't hesitate to rent it again in the summer. The owners have the best customer service of any apartment I've ever had the pleasure of renting. The bedroom didn't have windows, but it was perfectly okay. An upright fan kept things cool enough for me. I was here for 2 weeks during an intense heat wave with temps exceeding 95 degrees on many of the days. I held out for as long as I could, but finally had to use the 2 a/c provided in the living/dining room. They cooled nicely, but more upright fans would have been great to move the air in the evenings w/o the use of the a/c. A couple of floor lamps would have been perfect as well. The small lamp didn't provide quite enough light for good reading in the living room and the overhead lights, while beautiful, are a bit much at night. I sat writing many nights at the dining room table and didn't enjoy the glare of the overhead lights. Floor lamps would have provided a much more pleasant ambiance.
The balcony was divine. The couch was extremely comfortable and the site of many afternoon naps. The chairs fold down and can easily turn part of the couch into a super fab chaise. The location: Bakats ter. Quiet peaceful green oasis. The 4/6 and 2 tram/trolley lines are right around the corner as is a metro line and the wonderful #15 bus. Budapest's public transportation rocks! Super easy to navigate with the map the owners provide.
When I return in winter sometime I wouldn't rent andrei due to the north facing position. Would prefer a place with direct rather than indirect light, but for the hot summer it was perfect. I would however be sure and check out the owner's other apartments before looking elsewhere as his kind, helpful expertise is unparalleled.
Although I brought my own laptop, the mac computer provided in the apartment was a really awesome extra. The wireless worked fantastic - no problems. Nespresso machine was wonderful!
Best part of all is there seem to be no other vacation rentals in this building and I spotted few tourists on the square. Loved that! -

My husband and I stayed in apartment andrei for a week, and we loved it. So the short version is: it’s wonderful, and I recommend it unreservedly. And the owner and his team are just great!
The background: It my first trip to Europe, and my husband had never been to Budapest before. I was very anxious that this trip be perfect for us, and I looked at lot of apartments online, and emailed a number of websites. From the start of the email negotiations, John Farago could not have been nicer. It was so reassuring to a travel-novice like me to deal with someone so patient and helpful about all the arrangements. He really took time to answer my questions and address what I personally was looking for in a place to stay.
The apartment is lovely and charming and spacious! The big living room/dining room makes you feel like you're staying in a mansion. We were so pleased with the whole place. Everything the previous reviewers have said about how nicely equipped the apartment is totally accurate. The bed, the plumbing, the aC, the washer/dryer, the kitchen, the terrace - all just great. Having both the Skype phone line and a local cell phone for our use was so helpful. The clearly-labeled Usa-friendly power-strip arranged so you can just plug your laptops and phones and what-all right into it, with no worries about converter/adapters? A fantastic touch. But there are simply too many charming little touches about the apartment to list here.
I also liked the area very well. It’s a real Budapest neighborhood, with everyday Hungarians going about their business. It makes you feel like a resident, not just some tourist. There’s all sorts of little shops to buy food in very close by, and a few blocks away, Raday Utca becomes a long row of cute one little restaurant after another. It was easy for us to walk or take the Metro to all the different sights of the city. I loved having the church across the street. It’s beautifully lit at night, and it was great to sit out on the terrace and drink wine and look at it. Even in the daytime, the area around the apartment is pleasantly quiet. It also felt very safe. Being a woman, and having lived and traveled in all sorts of neighborhoods in the us, I notice that sort of thing.
During our one-week stay, John called us twice to check on us. He also arranged for me to have a package delivered to his partner’s office so that I could receive it during my stay. The driver John works with, Alajos, and his wife were extremely helpful and kind to my husband and me. I cannot say how nice it was to have such unfailing excellent service and attention.
So I would definitely stay in this particular apartment again. And just based on my experiences with the people running them, I’d also stay in any of the owner’s other apartments without a moment’s hesitation. -

First, this really is a beautiful apartment. But it's more. The owner has anticipated every need a renter might have. There is written advice about the best restaurants in the city and the neighborhood. How to find the nearest supermarket, pharmacy, tailor, wine shop, organic health food store, the pastry shop...Detailed instructions about how to use every appliance in the apartment...Recommended walking tours...A reliable cab driver...It all made life so easy! We arrived, and immediately felt like we were living the lifestyle of seasoned expats. Truly the perfect rental experience.
Also, the air-conditioning came in very handy during a July heat wave! -

Left on 02/09/2011 for a stay in November 2010
We stayed at apt andrei with our 10 year old daughter. It was set up great for a family, fully equipped in every aspect, all needs anticipated, minutes to cafes, grocery shopping, boutiques, transit, museums - there were no drawbacks. Driver was arranged with apt owner so no searching for a cab at the airport, property manager greeted us at the apt, explained the amenities, even stocked the kitchen with fresh pastries, a bottle of wine and noshes. The computer access provided is a brilliant amenity - never had this at any other rental. Dvds, music, books, and antique accents made the apt feel like a home. The best thought out and most useful item that came with this rental was the huge pdf file provided by John that was better than any travel book I'd read from the library, pre-arrival. Anything I needed to know was contained within -from grocs to wine to great hidden gems of places to eat, drink, and people watch. We spent much time on the balcony with morning coffee and evening wine, watching people come home from work, taking their dogs for a run in the churchyard across the way or their little ones for before dinner playtime. If you rent this apt - go and go often to the Cafe If on Raday utca. The owners refer to it as a favourite spot - it was ours the week we spent at apt andrei. We plan to return to Budapest, we will rent apt andrei again if we go and would tell family or friends to rent this or anything else the Faragos have on offer - they are superb hosts.

This apartment is clean and has everything you need including: free long distance to the United States, a computer, internet service, great coffee, laundry, compete kitchen and a collection of movies. The owner (John) is a frequent contributor on Trip advisor and is very helpful. You are surrounded by historic buildings and this place gives you so much room compared to a hotel. I would recommend this place to my friends.

Denver, ColoradoFantastic experience in Budapest.
Left on 10/17/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We arrived in Budapest by Hydrofoil boat and were met at the dock by a driver arranged through the apartment rental owners. The driver was very nice and helped us into the apartment. The apartment had a great view of an old church from the balcony, and it was a short walk to very nice, affordable restaurants toward the center of town. The unit was much larger than we expected, with a spacious living room, full kitchen, dining area, and large bathroom area. It had been recently updated so everything was in great condition.
We found very good maps and other information about the city in the apartment that came in very handy. The owners had even written their own little guide to local eateries and attractions that came in very handy.
We really loved the location because we were out of the busy central area, but close enough that we could easily walk to all the major attractions.
We felt very fortunate to have rented such a nice apartment and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Budapest. -

Melbourne, AustraliaAn elegant apartment in an elegant city!
Left on 09/13/2010 for a stay in August 2010
My husband and I are in Budapest for 2 months and have rented Andrei for the entire period so we really have a feel for what a great apartment and location it is. We love being a couple of blocks from the Danube.
The apartment itself is very large with high ceilings and every home comfort you could ask for - heating, air conditioning, laundry, coffee maker, full kitchen, washer/dryer, satellite tv, dvd player with dvds, an excellent wifi connection and a computer if you don't have your own. The owner, John, has written easy-to-follow directions for absolutely everything. He has also written up many suggestions for local food and entertainment.
The neighbourhood is within the bounds of the inner city but differs from staying right in the center. In District IX, you feel you are more of a part of the real Budapest with locals, tourists and ex-pats around. It is easy to get by with English or German at the many restaurants close by but there are also grocery stores and shops where you can have the fun of trying to communicate with people who only know a few words of English. We very much enjoy being out walking with locals who are going to work or doing their shopping instead of just ending up in a crowd of tourists fresh off their boat or bus.
Raday utca is only metres away and is full of restaurants and bars to suit all prices ranges - from cheap to Hungary's first Michelin-starred restaurant, Costes. Our current favourite is a jazz café around the corner open from 8 am until late where you can go for anything from breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner or live music.
You can comfortably walk to the north end of the inner city in only half an hour but the heart of the city can be reached in 15 minutes. There is also easy access to trams, buses and trains to take you anywhere you want to go in the inner or outer city, on either the Buda or Pest side of the river.
You simply couldn't have a better contact person than John to make your stay in Budapest perfect. -

I wrote a review, but so gushed on and on, the site would not accept the length! Now I have to cut.
I rented two apartments from the incredibly helpful and detail-oriented owner, John. Look at my review under "Olive” as I had to cut this one. From the beginning I could tell that this would be a deluxe top of the line apartment rental experience and I have never had such a feeling of excellence in all aspects of the process.
Andrei--it is not in the main part of town, which I really liked. Still very much in town, though. Right near the Danube, across the river is the Gellert Spa and the cool hill to climb. Andrei is close to the metro, short walk to the awesome Central Market (one bridge length away). It took us about 15 minutes to walk into the main part of Budapest, where Olive is. Lovely walk. Always different and always something new to see. Great little stores around to pick up last minute milk, wine cheese, ajvar!
Right out the windows of Andrei, sitting on the long balcony, you see the church, all lit up at night. So beautiful. We did not sleep in the bedroom as there are no windows there, we slept in the spacious living room with the lovely, comfy fold out couch. I had all the windows open. It was quiet at night. Andrei has a huge living room, dining room and TV area all in one. We never watched the TV or the movies, but the kids in Olive did and were very happy with the choices. I loved the bathroom I loved the shower--hot water, clean, light, roomy. John even has extra contact lens solution available in the vanity! Along with little packets of shampoo, shaving cream, I don't even know what else...lots of stuff you may have forgotten but need at the last moment.
I cannot imagine returning to Budapest and NOT staying in one of John's apartments. I would change my dates to accommodate the schedule if need be.

Apartment andrei provided us with a wonderful base from which to explore Budapest. John (owner) has really tried to think of every little detail and the apartment is extremely comfortable as a result - perhaps a little too comfortable as it entices one to stay in rather than exploring the delights of Budapest. On arrival the fridge was stocked with delightful pastries, cheese and salami to accompany a very nice bottle of wine. John provides detailed information about every aspect of the apartment, and even a local cell phone for your use (with a reasonable request that you reload it at the end of your stay. Restaurants, bakeries, stores are only steps away and the large market hall is only a short walk. If you need information about the city, John's website beats any guidebook. Staying at the apartment made our experience very different than if we had stayed in a hotel or B&B.; We probably wouldn't have returned to Pest as we have so many other places we still want to explore but the experience was so amazing, we now hope to go and spend a longer time there in the not too distant future. If you can get a booking, go!

Left on 07/10/2010 for a stay in June 2010
A friend and I stayed in apartment andrei in early June 2010 and absolutely loved staying there. The apartment block is old and filled with character on the outside, with statuary on the balcony but modern and tastefully furnished inside. Excellence lies in attention to detail, and this owner has certainly thought about the details: the apartment has internet, a flat screen tv, dvd (not that we had time to use it!!), washing machine, tumble dryer, Nespresso machine (with Nespresso supplied), dishwasher... There are two toilets (although only one shower, which is off the main bedroom.) There is one bedroom with a double bed and a sleeper couch in the lounge. Sleeper couches are not always the most comfortable but this one felt as comfortable as my own bed!!! The apartment overlooks a square with a picturesque church, and is just off Raday Street, which is a pedestrianised street filled with cafes and restaurants. Public transport is close by but we hardly used it as everything is in walking distance provided you are a good walker. I really can't fault this accommodation- or the owner, who is very helpful. In sum, we really enjoyed this accommodation- it felt like coming home when we eventually got in at night.

Apartment Andrei is gorgeous and very large. The pictures very accurately represent the place and its beauty. I only stayed by myself, although, as advertised, the place could easily accommodate four people.
I was so lucky that there weren’t any rainy days during my visit, but if there had been, it would have been a pleasure to stay inside the apartment. It is cozy and there are DVDs, CDs, and books to read. The kitchen is very modern (newly remodeled), and has everything you could need. It is MUCH nicer than my own kitchen at home. Bathroom is newly renovated and very contemporary, except for the GORGEOUS large antique vanity/sink in the bathroom. John gave me very personal service, and he was responsive to any questions I had.
A Mac and free internet service was provided; a telephone landline; AND a cell phone to use around the city. This was invaluable! John typed up easy instructions for using everything in the apartment: TV, cable, washer & dryer, DVD player, CD player, the modern stove, etc., etc.
When I arrived around 8:00pm, I was hungry. I noted that they provided staples in the fridge (cheese, sausages, eggs, milk, butter, etc.); and also a plate of pastries, and a lovely bottle of wine. This was just wonderful since I was hungry when I arrived. I was also able to cook myself some breakfast in the morning. (A random side note: I have never in my life tasted tap water as delicious as that in Apartment Andrei! Basically, I only had to buy a bottle of water a couple times in the city, and I would just fill it up in the morning with tap water before I headed out.)
All the other good things listed in these reviews are true. I have nothing negative to say about this gorgeous, well-appointed apartment.

Apartment Andrei is an exquisite traditional Hungarian apartment with full balcony overlooking a lovely tree lined street, exactly as photo represented. Completely renovated and very stylish, every traveler need is anticipated from shoe polish to bandaids, and a stocked refrigerator on arrival. The washer/dryer is helpful for a time worn traveler as coin laundry services don't exist in Budapest. BVR provides a comprehensive manual for the apartment and all it's amenities, along with tips on restaurants, currency, how to handle emergencies etc.;a library of guide and language books enhances your stay. Phone, full computer with printer, a well stocked movie library, MP3 docking station - what more can you ask for! The location is fantastic - one block from a myriad of chic restaurants, public transportation and a short walk to the Danube. This was our 3rd visit with Budapest Vacation Rentals, and the service is superb. English speaking staff are prompt in meeting you and always available to problem solve if necessary. The owner John Farago calls to ensure arrival and answer any questions you may have. You feel secure and safe - as though you were home. We really blended in with the neighborhood and can't wait to return. You won't want to leave.

"We would highly recommend apartment Andrei. Foremost is the service from
John and his team making travel to a very foreign location seamless, even
when we missed our train and were a few hours behind arrival time. Although
the apartment is away from the tourist center, tram/metro/bus transportation
was easy to use and convenient (make sure you get a pass since checked all
the time). The location was very quiet and the church across the street was
scenic and a reflection of the local daily life. The apartment is beautiful and
equipped with EVERYTHING you would need including tour books, games,
electronics, extra toiletries, modern appliances, and a relaxing balcony to
enjoy after a long day of sightseeing. Go to Budapest, enjoy this evolving city,
and stay at apartment Andrei or one of John's apartments. " -

I had the pleasure of staying at this property while spring was blooming in
Budapest! The location of the apartment was wonderful with a great view of
the church square from the balcony. The apartment was also very close to the
cafe district and other convenient shops. Getting around the city was also a
breeze, since the apartment is located within one block of a major tram stop.
The apartment included everything we needed! A very easy-to-use washer
and dryer, refrigerator, freezer, and even an espresso machine were at our
disposal in the apartment. The addition of American power outlets and a
complementary cell phone also were extremely helpful. I highly suggest
renting this apartment! It made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable! -

Our plan was to stay at Andrei Apartment, an experience we were really looking forward to but, it was not to be. We must say that our experience in dealing with the owner of the apartment, John Farago, was extraordinary. John showed us hospitality and service the like of which we could not have imagined. For our next trip to Budapest, we will line up to stay at one of his apartments and plan our dates in accordance with their availability. We recommend most strongly that any visitor to Budapest opt in favour of John's apartments.
In addition, John provided us with information and tips that we could have only had from a local with intimate knowledge of his city and what to do and see there, far beyond what we could obtain from any other source we researched. John really took our interests and our objectives to heart. He inspired our confidence.

The apartment Andrei impresses the guest both with its location and with the amenities provided. Situated next to a beautiful church and with easy access to the tram and cafes, the apartment balances being centrally located but not loud at night.
The apartment came equipped with everything imaginable: espresso machine, movies, glasses repair kit, mobile phone and much more. John (the owner) was extremely helpful and provides his own phone number as well as those of his friends in case you need help, a personal touch that I have not seen elsewhere. Everything exceeded my expectations, I really cannot name anything that I didn't like. I whole-heartedly recommend this apartment. -

Hungary started badly for us, largely due to arriving 2 hours late courtesy of Austrian rail. But then things started to get and stayed much better.
Our taxi driver, booked via BVR, was waiting for us so we avoided Budapest's superb but at first confusing metro. 15 minutes later and we were at Bakats Ter to be handed over to Ilona who explained how operate the flat. The flat is the first floor (2nd for Americans) of a 19th century house in an elegant town square with an impressive church in the centre. Somewhat faded exterior but the flat itself is stunning. Magnificently renovated with everything you could think of and some you wouldn't. TV/DVD player/large collection of DVDs/computer with internet/washing machine/dishwasher you might expect but the free international phone, mini library and Nespresso machine were a definite bonus. Particularly appreciated after the long train trip were the free bottle of wine, pre stocked fridge (cheese, ham and salami and milk) and superb cakes.
Can't fault the place for comfort or location. It's one block from the Danube and a tram line runs into central Pest either side of the square or you could walk to the Metro in 5 minutes. The central markets are only a few minutes on the metro but supermarkets, bakers, butchers and greengrocers are all only 100 m or so away.
There is a plethora of information in the flat on how the various appliances work and also things to do and see in Buda and Pest - all very helpful.
We stayed in a few apartments in Europe but Bakats Ter was by far the most modern, comfortable and well fitted out. It's particularly suited for a family as 4 can stay in spacious comfort. Why anyone would stay in a hotel when you can get this sort of comfort for a fraction of the price is a mystery. Can not recommend it too highly. We will be back. -

Left on 12/12/2009 for a stay in November 2009
We stayed at Apartment Andrei for a four-day weekend. Unfortunately, our
car broke down and one of us ended up getting admitted to the hospital.
We had bad luck. But this apartment was a refuge for us during all the
craziness.
Location is great. Everything you need is within a block or two. The nearest
metro is really just a few blocks away -- it can be hard to tell just how far
away it is from the map, but it is close. The area is alive and active and
busy, but not touristy.
The apartment itself is nice. High ceilings, full kitchen, washer and dryer,
balcony overlooking the square.
For those who would care about this -- we did not -- the area with a
shower and sink (near the bedroom) does not have a toilet. For that, you'll
have to go to the room by the entryway with the washer/dryer. Certainly a
quirk, but don't let this stop you from staying in what is a first class
apartment.
What makes this apartment really stand out is the attention to detail by the
owners. Everything has instructions. And there are so many things that are
uncommon in both hotels and other apartment rentals -- laundry soap,
free coffee and a fancy coffee maker, toiletries, local prepaid cell phone,
computer with internet, DVDs, books, fresh milk and butter, and the list
goes on. All included.
We'll stay here again if in Budapest, or at another property from this owner.

Luxurious, spacious, comfortable, wonderfully appointed, every detail covered for a guest.
Apartment Andrei is everything a traveler would like in a home away from home, great location, close to museums, the Danube, the Central Market, Metro and Tram stops, on a quiet tree lined street overlooking a church. Travelers don't need to bring maps or travel guides, all is provided as well as a land line phone, cell phone and computer. The security in the building makes one feel safe, all the other occupants are friendly and helpful. An elevator in the building makes carrying heavy suitcases up the stairs simple.
We took advantage of Alajos for taxi service and highly recommend his service.
Ilona is attentive to the renter's needs as is the host via e-mail. We enjoyed our stay, the apartment is large enough to entertain relatives, is complete with a fully furnished kitchen and a washer and dryer. Very comfortable. We recommend this apartment without any reservations. -

Left on 09/17/2009 for a stay in September 2009
We absolutely loved Apartment Andrei and the Bakats Ter area. The gorgeous balcony has a view of the church on the square and as we were there is September, the weather was beautiful. The apartment itself is decorated in gorgeous modern decor which juxtaposes nicely with the old building and city. The shower is at least twice the size of most European showers and a welcome comfort after our stays in Vienna and Munich (private room hostels).
The apartment is convenient to multiple trams, the metro and buses. Budapest has a great public transit system, although buses can be difficult to figure out because there are so many. The number 2 tram, although usable, stops in the middle and you have to get off and walk to the next stop. Normally, you can ride it along the Danube and it's scenic. Most of the Pest side of the city is walkable from Andrei (and we are not super fit).
The absolute best part of the apartment is the service. John corresponded with me many times prior to our visit. He also helped while we were there. We arranged a cab through his cab guy, Alajos, and he sent a friend, who at 4am was very friendly and spoke English well.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Apartment Andrei again and really have no complaints. Oh yes, next to the service, the absolute best thing is the Nespresso Machine and Milk Frother! We also had some great pastries waiting for us and other basics in the fridge.
It really feels like you are living in Budapest!
Thanks to John and everyone at Budapest Vacation Rentals!

Ironically we usually find ourselves returning from vacation feeling like we
need to re-wash all of our clothes and exhausted as navigating around a
new city, while a fun adventure to be sure, can be quite tiring especially
when you always feel a little uncomfortable.
This vacation was different at Apt. Andrei. We felt well taken care of, down
to the last detail. Perfect coffees with the fancy coffee maker, dvds on hand,
well stocked bathrooms, very clean, comfortable bed, large living area, a
beautiful view and area that made us feel like we were not only tourists for
a weekend.
The apartment is a few minutes walk to the main areas which was fine for
us as it was quite quiet, especially on the weekend. The internet
unfortunately did not work during our stay which was disappointing;
however, John went to every effort to help us make it work and it was the
fault of the service provider we found out in the end.
The home was well laid out and tastefully decorated, the high ceilings were
beautiful. It was a nice bonus to be able to wash and dry our clothes.
We would definitely recommend Apartment Andrei as a uniquely affordable
and truly comfortable accommodation for those wanting to see the fabulous
city of Budapest.

My husband and I stayed at Apartment Andrei after a cruise. We eat all of
our meals at the apartment (due to my husband's allergies. John thinks of
every thing. You need only to bring your self and your clothes. He even
provides contact eye solution.
The apartment is very modern and very comfortable.
It is just off the street Raday, which if you look at travel guides is the new
up coming street in Budapest, especially for the locals. There is a lot of
tourist in the restaurants along this street. I did stop each night to have a
local beer and watch the activity.
This apartment is within walking distance of most attractions but I would
suggest that you take the public transportation. It keeps you from getting
too tired.
The apartment is very near the Grand Market which is just off to the left of
Raday street. This appears to be the best place to get souvenirs price wise.
They also have a great place to get food on the second floor. You will run
into locals getting lunch but again many tourist.
The apartment is across the street from an local church which has a
monument in memory of the heroes of the 1956 revolution .
I would suggest a trip to the cemetery which also has a monument to these
brave people and also is the resting place of many famous
Hungarians .
I would also suggest a trip to the church in the cave. I enjoyed the hospital
in the cave but I am a nurse. I would suggest the 1/2 hour tour. I did the
hour tour and enjoyed it but it is twice as much.
Back to the apartment. The other apartments in the building are owner
occupied so the apartment is quiet. A few times when I had difficulty with
the door one of residence came out to help me. One did not speak any
English but we were able to communicate just fine.
As you can tell I loved my time in Budapest and especially in the apartment.
Due to my husband's allergies we always stay in apartments when we travel
and this apartment was by far the best and the only one I would -

Apt Andrei exceeded our expectations. Right from our arrival the service we received from BVR was stellar. Our arrival was smooth and easy with our scheduled pick up from the airport. Upon arrival at Apt Andrei we were welcomed by Ilona who gave us an apt tour, review of the services available to us and even brought freshly baked pastries! Once unpacked my husband and I truly felt like we were at home, which is a great feeling as we had previously lived in Budapest and made our holiday feel extremely comfortable. Kudos to John for the small details. For example, the library of DVDs for a rainy day, the books on the night stand for bedtime red, the umbrella on the coat rack - these details were noticed and certainly appreciated. In addition to the service was the amazingly decor of the apartment. Modern yet mixed with antiques the apartment was well-balanced for an urban couple who enjoy to travel in style. Lastly, the location of Apt Andrei is fantastic! Literally steps away from Raday utca (fabulous pedestrian street loaded with fantastic restaurants) and a short walk from Kalvin Ter and the wonderful Central Market, Apt Andrei offers great opportunities for fun and exploring within steps of its door. Given our experience we highly recommend Apt Andrei and will certainly see about booking with BVR in the future.

My stay at Apartment Andrei could not have been more pleasurable! The recently renovated apartment is very spacious. John and his team have thought of everything. There are guide books in the apartment, a docking station for your IPOD and internet with a VoIP line. Being able to the call the United States and check in with family was an added bonus. In addition, a cell phone is provided to use while in Budapest.
As a single traveler, the apartment had more than enough space. It is spacious enough for a couple or family to stay there. The sofa in the living room can be converted to a bed. There is a long narrow balcony that overlooks the church. It is very relaxing to sit on the balcony at night with a glass of wine.
I was also very pleased with the location of the apartment. It is steps away from Raday utca where I enjoyed many of the cafes and restaurants. After a day of sightseeing, it was nice to stop for a drink on my way back to the apartment.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the Kalvin Ter metro stop and about a 20 minute walk to Deak Ter. The Central Market is very close.
My experience with John Farago and his team was nothing but positive. Making the reservation was simple. He arranged for airport pickup and he answered my many questions on email before the trip. John even mailed a Budapest book to my home in Atlanta. Before my stay, my expectations for Apartment Andrei were very high and the apartment exceeded them. When I return to Budapest, I will most definitely stay at Apartment Andrei again.
