Description from the owner
Lovely and cozy apartment, located in the most central part of downtown Budapest, a minutes walk from Deak Square, the junction of the whole Budapest metro system and surrounded by countless places of interest, cultural activities, stores, restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs etc.
The apartment is extremely quiet as it is situated on the ground floor on the rear side of the building, on Asboth utca, however once you turn the corner you find yourself in one of the most vibrant parts of the city. Garden furniture (table and chairs) is present on the shady green and flowery terrace, which can be used by guests.

What you see is what you get. It is no happening that this place and Martin get such high review.
This place does not give you a four-star hotel quality feel but something even better: it feels like getting the vacation place keys from your buddy and making it your own for a week or so.
Martin is a great host and a great person, don't forget to ask him for advice on your vacation plans. -

The apartment was clean, and most importantly it is located downtown Budapest, close to everything a tourist might be interested in. Me and my mate spent little time there, as we just needed a place to crash after long days in Budapest. I'd recommend it to everyone looking for a clean place in a good location, with a very helpful person waiting upon your arrival.

Left on 01/02/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We had a great Christmas break in Budapest and it was made even better by our experience at art Deco. It was really central in the area of the downtown and had everything we needed for our staying there. The apartement was very clean and confortable and was also very quiet, so we were able to sleep well. The owner was very helpful and knows almost everything we needed to know and could recommend some of the best places to visit and restaurants in the area of the apartment and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived and gave a lot of useful advice. The apartment is just like its described on the web site and was well furnished and nicely made.
We will tell our family and friends that are coming to Budapest and recommend art Deco when they want to have a very good place to stay. -

Left on 11/07/2011 for a stay in October 2011
The apartment is at a very central location, About 3 minutes walking from Deac Ferenc Ter Metro station (the only one in Budapest in which all the 3 lines go through) as well as 2 tram lines (the station is at the same place). Also - about 5-10 minutes walking from important sights, such as St. Istvan basilica, Vaci Utca, Lachid Bridge, Andrassy avenue (and the Opera) and the Jewish Quarter (and Dohany synagogue).
We were 3 persons, at the apartment there is a bedroom with 2 single beds, as well as a double sofa bed in the living room (large enough for 2 persons, we used it). The bathroom and the toillet (seperated) were very clean. The kitchen was well equiped (Refrigirator + fridge, gas hobs, microwave, kettle, cuttlery, plates, pans, etc.). At whole, we were very delighted with the apartment.
Martin, the owner, was very nice, allowed us comfortable check out time, and gave good advices and answers to our questions about the city. -

Left on 10/06/2011 for a stay in September 2011
A very nice apartment in a perfect location - right bang in the center of Pest. All the sights were easily within walking distance - the Jewish synagogue, Opera house and the main shopping street (Vaci Utca) for example were all 5 minutes walk away.
The apartment is also well positioned for the underground - one of the main stations (Deak ter) is literally just around the corner.
Despite being so central, the flat was very, very quiet as it's at the end of a dead-end street so there's no passing traffic (neither the bedroom nor the living room face onto a street anyhow).
Martin was a great host and even took the trouble to give us a brief tour of the area around the apartment when we arrived, pointing out the 24hr supermarket, a few bakeries and some pubs and restaurants to dine in.
Everything we could have wished for had been supplied in the apartment. The kitchen in particular was especially well kitted out with a filter coffee maker, ironing board and iron supplied.
The huge sofa in the lounge was also great for relaxing in after a day walking the city!
Budapest is a great city and if/when I go back, I'll be calling on Martin again! -

This is my second time that I have stayed in art Deco and I love it. I frequently travel to Budapest on business and have stayed in many different appartments and Hotels but Deco is the best.It has the perfect location in the very heart of the city and furnished very tastefully and has a warmth that makes you feel completely at home. I really enjoyed and felt sorry to leave. Martin the owner/manager was great and made sure that I had everything and was happy to help with any info I needed. All I can say is top rate.

This roomy apartment was furnished in the art deco style and offers reasonable accommodation in a very central location. The owner was very helpful upon arrival, although it took 3 days to get the shower screen fixed after we complained that we could not operate the door. Comfortable lounge, well-equipped with movies which was great as we could not find any tv channels in any language we speak. Also there was a computer which, although a bit slow, was an appreciated inclusion. The bedroom was tiny and the bed-linen was threadbare, but the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was small but very well equipped. We found the biggest problem to be the 4 dead-locks on the 2 apartment doors, each requiring a large separate key. We were asked to lock all 4 locks when leaving the apartment but advised to use only 2 when acutually inside. This made us extremely uncomfortable as there was no other exit and in the event of a fire I think we would not have been able to escape. There were overhead fans and one free-standing one which we used in the windowless kitchen. Two supermarkets within a 100 metres and some good eating places nearby. Very quiet at night.

Art Deco Budapest is a tastefully decorated apartment with the best location in Budapest. During our stay we were conveniently located near the hub of all three metro lines, grocery shopping and lots of walkable tourist sites. We shopped and ate in the apartment some of the time which greatly reduced our food bill. Budapest is a beautiful city with fabulous architecture, lots of good museums, fabulous food and lots of history. We enjoyed all this from our home away from home, Art Deco apartment. Martin was waiting for us on our arrival, showed us the nuisances of the apartment, where to shop for groceries and some good money exchange places. At the end of a long trip it was nice to be greeted so warmly. warmly. Thank you Martin and art Deco. Henrietta Yaworsky

The apartment was in a great location for sightseeing and so convenient to have the metro hub a couple of minutes away. After our transatlantic flight and a long stopover in Brussels, we were so happy to find Martin waiting for us at the shuttle dropoff - and he came through again later in our stay with some documents we needed printed. We were happy to have the computer, and skype was a bonus to stay in touch with family. As 3 female travellers, we were slightly paranoid about our safety in the neighbourhood, although I think that's a trade-off for the central location.

- calm area even if it's in the center.
- 1 minute to tram and buss.
- the sightseeing bus is just around the corner.
- 2 minutes to 0-24 Supermarket.
- many restaurants in the area. cosy Café and lunch place just across the street.
- 10 minute walk to Donau.
- clean flat and all you need in the kitchen.
My mother already talked about getting the flat for another visit with her friends. -

Martin Collins' Art Deco apartment was much better than staying in a hotel. It is homey, clean and comfortable. The kitchen has a nice layout and the all-important coffee maker was present. The living room has a big couch, computer with Internet, and a window looking out on the back yard. The bedroom has two single beds. The place is on the first floor in the heart of Budapest, but it's on a very quiet dead-end street. It's a great location - plenty of restaurants, bars, shopping and metros nearby. I was very satisfied with my stay there and would recommend it to anyone.

Martin, the proprietor, could not have been more gracious and flexible, meeting us at the flat late at night after the arrival of our flight to welcome us to Budapest and aquaint us with the workings of the flat. Located in the heart of Pest, near several modes of public transportation, parks frequently hosting festivals of various kind, the Bascillica, delightful cafes and restaurants, and shopping, the flat provides an oasis for rest between adventures and strolls about the city and surrounding areas. The flat is clean, well appointed, and safe. The only detraction is the cigarette smoke wafting into the flat when the neighbors smoke in the courtyard outside flat's open windows.

NetherlandsGreat Location, Great Apartment!
Left on 03/08/2010 for a stay in March 2010
This is a very sweet little apartment in the very heart of Pest. First, let's talk location. This place is located just two short blocks from the main metro station in the city, where all three metro lines cross. This makes finding your way around town (or home after a long day of sightseeing!) a breeze. Also, the Danube is only about a 10 minute easy walk. Now, the apartment itself has everything you could possibly need and is clean, safe and secure. It is also across the street from a cool little bar called Castro (or Casztro, maybe) and is very near a 24/7 market. As for the proprietor, Martin, we were delighted by how attentive he was in answering our (many) questions, before and during our stay. He was friendly and made himself available to us should any problems arise (none did, of course).
The only teensy, tiny, itty bitty negative is that the shower door in the bathroom was a bit wobbly and wouldn't close all the way (I think it needs to be repaired, before it falls off). But, this is very minor in the scheme of things, and likely will not be a problem for long given Martin's attentiveness to his property. -

Zurich, SwitzerlandConvenient central place in Budapest
Left on 02/01/2010 for a stay in January 2010
I needed a place to stay in Budapest for some days
while visiting friends, and decided to go for an
apartment instead of a hotel.
The apartment is located in a deed-end street only
some meters away from the central junction at Deak
ter / Madach ter. That is important in Budapest, as
all subway lines stop at Deak ter, so there is no
more central than that. Being central, I was
prepared to some noise. I am sensitive to the night
and early morning city noises - but there was none.
The apartment looks to an inner courtyard, so it is
silent. Really. I could sleep as long as I wanted.
The apartment itself is nicely renovated, clean
and well equipped. Everything I needed was simply
at hand, including even an internet-connected
(albeit somewhat slow) computer. The bathroom was
much better than what I expected, with a
comfortable and big shower. The kitchen / dining
room is quite spacious for two persons, and even accommodates 4 for a comfortable dinner and
conversation at the table.
The place felt more like living at a friend's flat
- maybe also because the first night our friends
cooked the dinner for us. :-) -

We stayed at apartment Art Deco in November 2009, looking for a reasonably priced central location from which to explore Budapest by day and by night. The apartment met this requirement easily sleeping 4 people. It was well furnished and very comfortable inside, and within 10-15 mins walk from many of the sights so a great base from which to explore. Some of the cooler bars in Budapest are also literally just around the corner. On the downside, the apartment was very warm inside and the many locks required to get in proved difficult to navigate after visiting some of the aforementioned local bars! But overall a very good place to stay and explore Budapest on a budget

We stayed in the Apartment Art Deco for a weekend in November, and were quite pleased with how it turned out. The apartment is in a fun neighborhood, with easy access to shops, bars, and restaurants.
The space itself is quite comfortable (even for 4 of us), clean, and well-appointed, and the manager (Martin) was very helpful getting us settled and oriented in Budapest. The only minor drawback was the excessive heating in the building, but with a few windows open this wasn't a real problem. For a small group staying in town for more than a day or two, I would definitely recommend this apartment. -

Great location!!! The appartment is so central that you can walk to most of the sites easily. Should you need to use the metro then it is at the juncture of all the lines and that also makes travel easier.
In terms of the actual apartment, Martin has gone to great efforts to make it as close to home a possible. The place is extremely clean. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen is well kitted out for the keen chefs - the only downside is that it could do with a fan as it gets a little hot in there. The bathroom is equiped with a brilliant power shower. All in all, a great place to stay and I would defintely stay there again if I were back in Budapest. -

We have a lot to say about the apartment. It was clean, spacious and had all the amenities (especially as we were with our 2 year old daughter) that were necessary. Furthermore, it was good that the centre of the city was a stones throw away. The Email correspondence beforehand with Mr. Collins was always pleasant and reached all expectations. He certainly didn't disappoint us. Jos and Joyce Knollmuller -

Apartment Art Deco was so much than I expected especially for the price. I have stayed in other appartments in Budapest for similar money but they didn't compare. The appartment was so warm, comfortable and stylish. It had internet, a computer and an incredible multi jet shower. It was real luxury. I slept like a log which is the main thing for me especially since I was on a business trip. The appartment could not be located in a better position-everything was in walking distance. This appartment was a rare gem where I paid for beer and got champagne. One of the best finds I have had on my widespread travels.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Apartment Art Deco. The location was great for us, only 3 minutes away from a central underground stop, and very close to restaurants, coffee shops and amenities (we would particularly recommend the restaurant Spinoza, only 5 minutes away from the apartment). The apartment itself is nicely decorated, the kitchen proved particularly useful, and the large and relaxing living room space made a change from being stuck to one room in a hotel. The beds were perhaps a little small, yet that is only a minor criticism, other than that the apartment added to our experience of Budapest and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

The appartment was great : very good location, fully equiped, comfortable beds, sheets and towels, etc.
I highly recommend the place for a stay in the city, don't hesitate asking for visiting tips to Martin, he will kindly tell you the best places to see as he did for us.

What a wonderful spot to use as a base in Budapest.
Located within walking distance of all the major sites to see. Everything in the apartment that you could need (computer, living space, kitchen, bed and bath) and great attention to detail. They even had a crib and a high chair for our 1 year old.
Don't be put off by the exterior of the building, the apartment is just perfect!

We used it two times (2008, 20O9 - 2 adults + 2 children) for 5 nights. Very clean and quite apartment with excellent position near the underground station (crossover of the all 3 lines in Budapest) and in walking distance (5 min) from Vaci utca. Easy accessible by car. Non-stop supermarket 5 min. by walk.

I stayed at both of their apartments in Budapest. Both are nice, with the deco
unit having a bit more character. Both are in good locations.
What made both such successes were the hosts. Genuinely nice people who
are happy to accommodate and offer guidance while not being intrusive. And
they offered a great bottle of wine enjoyed greatly.
Usually when I stay at these kinds of apartments when traveling, I don't seek
out the hosts or care about them as long as the place is comfortable and well
located. Here in Budapest, I was delighted by their extra attention. It made the
trip a great success. -

Apartment Art Deco was recommended to us by a friend who stayed there a few years ago. We found the apartment to be centrally located, in great condition, good quality of accommodation - and best of all, was all the advice Martin gave us on where to go and what places to see. A real personal touch goes a long way.

What can I say? Great safe central location for public transport (and handy 24 hour supermarket!) and just a short walk to the river, bars and restaurants. Apartment is very well maintained and decorated with great facilities - especially the shower! - and very good value for money.
Martin is very friendly and helpful and was great at giving tips on what to expect in Budapest. And he has good knowledge of where to source flip flops!
I would highly recommend staying here to any of my friends. It's very quiet despite its central location and my friend and I found it a lovely relaxing place to come back to after a few long, hot days watching Formula 1 at the Hungaroring. In fact, if you are going to the Hungarian grand prix next year and looking for somewhere to stay, I would definitely recommend it.
Enjoy! -

Left on 07/29/2009 for a stay in July 2009
I spent just under a week in the art deco apartment, Budapest in July 09. The apartment was in a great central location - only a short walk to the metro station, which serves all three of the main lines, and local supermarkets, restaurants and shops.
The flat itself was in good condition, clean and tidy with a modern kitchen and bathroom. The power shower was particularly welcome! The rest of the flat was comfortable and well appointed, with access to a small shared courtyard at the back of the building.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The owner was particularly friendly and helpful - always willing to answer our strange questions! I would definately recommend this to friends and family as a great value alternative to hotels in budapest. -

The apartment is located in the center of "tourist" Budapest - we walked to everything including Buda, never needed public transportation, shopping 5 minutes away.
I stayed with my daughter for 5 days in the apartment. For 2 people, the apartment is an ideal size with one bedroom, living room and small but well equipped kitchen. Nicely decorated, very clean. Internet was a bit slow. There are fold-out sofas in the living room which sleep an additional 2 but I think it would be a bit cramped unless you were hardly there. The owner was pleasant and very helpful -

What I liked:
Spacious apartment - very centrally located close
to buses/taxis/metro. Clean and comfortable -
spacious shower (shower gel and towels available) +
separate toilet with lots of toilet paper and
cleaning materials/liquids. I never did any cooking
but the kitchen was well equipped (water, nice
fruity wine and milk were prepared for our stay in
the fridge - very convenient as we arrived on
Saturday evening). The kids loved the comfortable
sofa bed. Our bedroom was small but good for a
night's rest. Lots of wardrobe space, clothes
airer, tv and computer equipped with card reader
and internet access. I liked the sofa/reading
corner where I could plan our itinerary etc
comfortably.
What I did not like:
The smell at the entrance to the apartment due to
garbage skips kept in the common entrance. We never
went out in the 'garden' mentioned on the website.
There was no garden or garden furniture when we
were there, and access is out of the apartment
door. The many locks at the outer gate and the
apartment doors, about 5 if I remember well, made
me feel secure once inside but somehow fearful as I
kept brainstorming the reasons behind the need of
all those locks. My impression is that this is the
Budapest way of a secure lock, as I observed this
in other locations! I also hated the occasions when
tramps lay almost unconscious, with a heavy smell
of alcohol + dirt, on the pavement next to the
outer gate to the apartments. Again, I never saw
the number and type of tramps one sees in Budapest
in any of my other visits abroad.
Conclusion:
We liked the apartment a lot. Martin and his wife
Gaby were very helpful and friendly, and
communication before and throughout our stay was
great. The apartment is just fabulous, but we
needed to imagine that we were on the Buda side of
the city in order to feel at ease. We found the
entrance/exit a bit scary, especially at night,
because of the numerous tramps in the area. The
problem is not the apartment but the country!

My cousin and I were first time visitors to Budapest so were very reliant upon local recommendations for accommodation. Martin's Art Deco apartment is very conveniently situated for a main square which gives easy access to the underground system. Martin provided us with basic essentials for our immediate needs, including a bottle of wine, and was soon there to greet us to induct us to the idiosyncrasies of the door-keys and to give us directions to the nearby supermarket.Despite its proximity to many key attractions, the property is in a quiet side-street. We really enjoyed our visit to the adjacent Jewish quarter and found a great restaurant there. The flat was warm and well-equipped, a refuge from some of the wintry weather we encountered in November.

Left on 07/20/2009 for a stay in August 2007
We arrived in Budapest by car at the most crowded time of the day and without the knowlegde of all the oneway streets. Therefore, we were pleasantly surprised to have such a warm welcome in the apartment with all the extra tourist information you need, a nice talk on how they renovated this appartment and help in parking the car.
Due to its central location and its homey interior we enjoyed our stay in Apartment Art Deco very much! -

We had an enjoyable stay. The property was clean. Improvements suggested - the heating was too powerful - the internet was only possible on a very old computer which was extremely slow, so if it is important (unless it has been updated), I would suggest checking first. We would not hesitate in recommending it.

Apartment Art Deco in Budapest was clean, well equipped and fairly priced. The two single beds were extremely comfortable - there was just the one bedroom. The entrance, with its graffity daubed walls, was off-putting together with the 5 sets of keys to enter first the apartment block and then the apartment. The location was very convenient being near the trains, buses, shops and restaurants and within easy walk of the Danube and adjoining park areas. The owner was very helpful and I wish him well for the future.

We were met at the airport by Martin and driven in his amazing red jaguar to the city centre apartment.
Just perfect, warm (cold winters day) stylish, scrupulously clean, well ventilated and magnificently furnished apartment. A welcome bottle of wine(what a lovely thought!) and every utensil needed to cope with eating and drinking imaginable! Local store 3 minutes away, as was a Christmas market. We walked to the Opera( 10 mins)
You don't need a car for this amazing city mostly walkable or small tram/bus ride.Martin took us to the Fortress that was difficult to get to (how kind - and then we got rather drunk!!!)
The apartment had the internet so we were able to keep in touch and listen to UK news. TV with DVD kept us amused. The comfort was just perfect and the style adorable, without comproming in modern convenience. To cap it all, we slept well as it was quiet at night. We could walk to the Danube in 15 minutes (thats a slow walk!)
at the end of our terrific experience, Martin delivered us to the airport(How kind is that!!) -

A very cozy, quiet and comfortable apartment in a great location. A well-equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, comfortable beds, and spacious living area, (plus the bonus of a computer!) make for a pleasant stay. Mr. Collins provided very helpful information. The location was ideal--in the center and close to the metro as well as numerous restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets.
