Description from the owner
Brook Cottage is a beautiful thatched cottage with old-world charm and modern convenience. It is on the edge of the friendly village of East Budleigh, 2 miles from the sea at Budleigh Salterton and 8 miles to the golden sands of Exmouth.
This charming thatched cottage has exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace. It is decorated most attractively with the 'Cow room' being covered in murals depicting farm animals.
You will find Brook Cottage unusually well equipped because it is our home too. The 3 bedrooms, two with en suite and a separate bathroom make nights comfortable and mornings easy. The large master bedroom has a folding...Read more

Additional Location Information
Brook Cottage is on the edge of the quiet historic village of East Budleigh, a mile from the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh, sailor and adventurer of Queen Elizabeth I's reign. Budleigh Salterton which is now better known, used to be just the salt pans for the important port of East Budleigh. The silting up of the river made East Budleigh a place which history has left behind. Now it is a delightful friendly village proud of its floral displays.
It is only 2 miles from the sea, a pleasant walk along the River Otter.
The whole area is criss-crossed with high banked 'Devon lanes' so make sure you brush up on your reversing skills before you come!
If you don't want to drive you can catch the bus which travels between Exmouth and Sidmouth having travelled to Devon by train.
Once there there are so many things to do from walking, water activities, visiting theme parks or the Donkey Sanctuary, National Trust properties, golf, bird watching.
If you want a quit time you will just love to hang out in our lovely cottage or sunbathe in the garden.

CheltenhamPeaceful, beautifully rural, comfortable.
Left on 12/26/2012 for a stay in May 2010
This was our second visit because we liked it so much the first time. We were an extended family of 3 couples across 3 generations - there was ample space and we were very comfortable. The gardens at the front and back provide sheltered and sunny places to sit. We chose to cook in the cottage mostly and found every facility we could want. There is a local community-run shop within easy walking distance that sells most things and there are major supermarkets a short drive away. The local pub is yards away and served good food in a friendly environment. If you like to hike, ramble, run or just stroll, there are traffic-free paths from the village all the way along the river to the coast and up river in the other direction. Overall, we liked the atmosphere of the cottage with its old beams and thatched roof best.

LondonCosy in the Country!

Nestling in the Devon hills, in a pretty village with two pubs, Brook Cottage is a lovely holiday home.
The cottage is well-equipped, to the extent one of the teens in our party commented on wanting to cook!
It is a well placed base from which to discover the countryside and allows easy access to the Exeter.
There is a well-stocked village shop run by two very friendly ladies.
Nearby are beaches and forest walks.
A lovely place to spend a vacation.Response from Jo Simons - 11/07/2012

Thank you for supporting the East Budleigh community shop.
Glad you enjoyed cooking at Brook Cottage. It can be quite a friendly activity as the kitchen is open plan to the living room. -

Brook Cottage is one of the few places in the world where I find I can truly kick back and relax. - they even supply you with free tea, milk and biscuits to help you relax the moment you get through the door!
I spent a week in mid September in the cottage with a group of friends and it was simply wonderful. It was rare that we were able to tear ourselves away from the fireplace and incredibly comfy sofas- but when we did we found the cottage perfectly placed for long countryside walks and seaside expeditions.
The way the house is laid out means even if there's a lot of you staying, you don't feel like you're on top of one another. Often with holiday rentals you find the house is charming, but the kitchen is very small and lacking equipment. But that's not the case with Brook Cottage as it had everything we needed and could ever need to cook with. And if you feel like a night off, a charming pub is but a stone's throw away - it's busy every night of the week and the locals are incredibly friendly and patient when it comes to your lack of cider knowledge!
Looking through the visitors book at the end of the holiday, I could tell everyone else who's stayed here over the years had as much fun as we did. Sure sign of a good holiday rental!
