Description from the owner

This colonial house was built in 1887 and has been completely renovated in a style that has preserved the original structure and craftsmanship. The living room has a lovely view of the street, comfortable chairs and a large fireplace. The kitchen connects to a private patio with a table and chairs that allow one to enjoy the fresh air. The bedroom, which has a king-size bed and a complete bathroom, is located in the loft. Outside, there is a garden with a pool and solarium (shared with 3 other units on the property) that help to create an oasis in the busy city. Additional Location Information

San Telmo is one of the oldest neighborhood of Buenos Aires, preserving old buildings and street layouts famous for their charm. It is an area of cafés, antique shops, cobblestone alleys, filled on weekends with artists and dancers, and many tourists.

The apartment is very close to several public transportation and within a walking distance to many to many touristic attractions like Casa Rosada, Avenida de Mayo, Puerto Madero or the nearby parks!

It is really very safe: a walk alone during the nights returning from Milongas where I dance tango.

Shabby Chic - with a lovely pool

Left on 03/06/2013 for a stay in January 2012

I stayed here for 5 weeks over Christmas and January, what a great base for our trip. This apartment is on a long courtyard with a few apartments front and back and a great garden with swimming pool and bbq facilities in the middle. Really nice after a day in Bas with 30+ heat. It is an old factory, with some original fittings. If there are few of you you can take over the whole place, it is just 4 or 5 apartments.

I stayed with my son, Mercedes lives in one of the apartments off the garden and was a great host. But has her own life, so we bumped into her a couple of times a day coming and going. It is slap bang in the middle of San Telmo, the best place to stay in Bas, very lively with a great market (antique and food) nearby and just down from Derrago square. The apartment is shabby chic with some fun touches, this is not a 5 star hotel. You really feel like you are living in Bas, with lots of bits and pieces picked up from the local antique markets.

It was just the two of us so we took this smaller apartment, but the others are lovely two and bigger. If you are looking for the feel of living here, then this is the place to be. They have lots of long term seasonal clients, that come every year.

The price was great for the amount of space we had. They put in a spare bed for my son. Cooking facilities are adequate, considering you will eat out a lot, and there are loads of cheap great restaurants within a few blocks. Go to the superb market (just around the corner) for food, they have an excellent deli in the middle, with an eclectic antique market, with old cutlery, bags, toys etc. Ask Mercedes for some ideas, she knows some great restauranteurs. She is also a really good Tango dancer, which is why she moved to San Telmo in the first place, so you can get lots of tips or even a private lesson from friends of hers.
