This 17th century 4 star holiday cottage provides a comfortable place to stay in the historic Market Town of Buxton with many varied events taking place throughout the year including the Buxton Festival and many others. Smithy’s Cottage is situated on an ‘Access only’ street just off the High Street. It is a quiet back water just a few metres from the ‘Town Trail’. Only a short walk to the Market Place, Museum Art Gallery, Pavilion Gardens, Opera House and main shopping area where there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and takeaways to choose from. Close by is Poole’s Cavern and Solomon’s Temple situated in Grin Low Country Park.... The whole area is surrounded by the beautiful Peak District countryside with Bakewell, Castleton, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Lyme Park all within a short car or bus journey. Buxton has its own railway station and is well served by buses to Manchester Airport and out into the countryside. The cottage has private parking for at least 2 cars and outdoor seating to enjoy a BBQ or relaxed drink. Inside the cottage there is an open fire for cosy nights in on cooler evenings.
Until the early 1900s Smithys Cottage had been the home of the local blacksmith for several hundred years but the cottage still retains much of its old period charm. Even though Smithys Cottage was originally built in the 1700s it is now a 4 star quality holiday cottage fitted with all modern facilities but it still retains many of its old features:
* large oak beam fireplace with a cast iron open fire.
* thick limestone walls with deep recessed windows
* walls that slope outwards downstairs and inwards upstairs
* hardly a right angle in the house to be found!Read more

The cottage was great and fully met our expectations. It is a lovely old building, but with lots of finishing touches to make it comfortable and homely. The fireplace kept us warm after a day out in the cold. .
The location is good - close to pubs, restaurants and shops in the town centre and Buxton makes an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. During our stay we cycled the Tissington Trail which was a short drive away.
