Town: Buxton is home to many magnificent buildings and gardens, thanks to the patronage of the successive Dukes of Devonshire. The splendour that characterizes the buildings of the town was created in the 18th and 19th centuries including the semi-circular Crescent, Hall Bank, The Pavilion Gardens, The Square, The Great Stable and The Opera House. The history of the town goes back much further, to when the Romans came to Buxton, drawn by the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs. Every year, Buxton hosts the Festival of Music and Arts, and the Opera House offers a full programme of performances. The ruggedly beautiful peaks and gentle hills of the Peak District make this area a wonderful location for lovers of the great outdoors.

I stayed at The Shavings earlier this year and would have no hesitation in going back. The accommodation was superb, very comfortable and the accommodation is in a nice quiet spot. It is in an ideal spot for visiting many places. I have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to anyone.

We spent a few days at The Shavings in September. We loved the quiet location and we felt very welcome indeed. The owner showed us everything and suggested things to do & see in the area.
The cottage is just the right size for a couple, with a fully equipped kitchen and a very comfortable bed.
There was one slight problem: the cottage smelled a little damp and some wooden cooking utensils were mouldy but we alerted the owner to this when we left, because it really wasn't a big deal - he was shocked and apologized. It seems that a pipe in the kitchen wall was causing problems. He said he was going to have it looked immediately.
We will probably be back - next time with our dog!
I would recommend this cottage to people who want some peace and quiet. As it's a working farm, there is the occasional farm noise but nothing that bothered us. People with allergies to mould etc might want to check ahead if the problem has been fixed.

The Shavings was a compact rental, with all the amenities that you would expect. The very friendly owners were on hand to show us around and offer advice on places to visit, they had ensured that we had fresh milk to see us through until the next day.It was hard to believe that this place was so close to the main a6 road because situated as it is atop a hill, via a wooded valley, you could have been miles from the nearest habitation.
Of course the stunning Peak District all around us was the icing on the cake.
Would not be able to recommend this highly enough, more than value for money. Thank you!

The property is located in a very quiet hamlet a couple of miles outside Buxton. If you are happy to drive everywhere including to the pub, shop, restaurant etc then you will be fine. The property was very cosy, clean, and well maintained and is a good size for a couple.

The home was wonderful!!! We stayed at a very nice place and the customers were very friendly. There is a lot to do in Buxton. We visited some caverns and we visited the Farmer´s market which was very interesting. It was so nice - we will be back soon!
