The complex is on the outskirts of Cabarete, where the beach is nothing less than spectacular. It's fine grained sand is easy on your feet. There are no hidden rocks to stub your toes or seaweed to brush against. You could of course just sit back catching some rays and visit the friendly people, at the poolside. Relax, read a book, have a drink and slow down to Cabarete time.
Cabarete, a short 25 minute drive from Puerto Plata airport where paradise awaits you. Cabarete is a relaxed village with more than 300 sun filled days every year and an average temperature between 25-30 C (80-90 F) makes this a perfect place for both sports freaks and for sun loving lazybones.
Cabarete is located on a lovely golden-sand beach along an enormous bay. Surfers, wind surfers, divers, and party-makers crowd the beaches by day and the bars at night. its a lively funky fun town,perfect for a holiday.

Orilla Del Mar Condos. (stayed here October 2012) The price is good but the only thing you are close to is the ocean. It is about 3Ks / 2 Miles to Cabarete. You can walk on the road, the beach, it takes 40-60 mins. there are also mototaxi, van taxi or private taxi.
This is a good place if you want to go to the supermercado and buy groceries for the week and hang out. If you like being close to bars / shopping / other activities this is not the place for you. Ok if you have small kids or like semi private location. Good if you rent a car. -

We stayed in apartment 309 at Orilla Del Mar (the condo complex) for six days in early January 2012. Rob, the condo owner, arranged for a private taxi to pick us up from the airport, which was convenient and cost $35 USD each way (which is apparently $5 cheaper than hiring a cab at the airport). The apartment and complex are accurately described in the listing and the following website: www.seasidesuite.com. The grounds of the condo complex are extremely well maintained and quite lush. The apartment is on the third floor of the building, which is the top floor. Each unit features a private deck, which is large enough for one round table with four chairs. We cooked many meals in the kitchen and ate every one of them on the deck. The ocean can be seen from the balcony, through the palm trees. The complex was gated and kept secure 24/7 with armed security guards. It was a bit shocking at first to see men with large automatic weapons roaming the grounds, but after awhile we realized that this was a common form of security for property and were comforted by it. The complex features a small private beach in addition to the pool. There are about 8 man-made palm tree umbrellas on the beach, where guests can pull out beach chairs or lounges from the pool area. The waves in this area were quite strong at all times during our vacation, which is an extreme contrast to the waves in the touristy part of Cabarete where the ocean is very calm. The touristy part of Cabarete is about 1.5 miles from the condo complex. There is a public bus called the GuaGua, that costs 20 pesos (about 50 us cents) per person for a one-way trip to or from Cabarete. The bus is a large mini van and the operators really pack people in, but it is an easy and interesting experience. Everyone on the bus was very nice. The security officers in our complex advised us (two young women) not to ride the bus or motorcycle taxis at night. A private cab ride costs 250 pesos (about $7 USD) for a one-way trip to town. Motorcycle taxis are also very prevalent, but we did not try this option. We initially were a bit concerned about being secluded, but we wound up really enjoying being removed from Cabarete’s touristy downtown. We spent the majority of our time relaxing at Orilla Del Mar. We ventured quite far in both directions on the beach. There are resorts spottily clad in both directions, with some abandoned-looking properties in between. We felt extremely safe in our complex and we felt safe walking up and down the beach during the day. Many people are out during the day, but at night, the beach is abandoned, which is a bit unsettling. There are about 80 units in the complex, but it still seemed charmingly small and never crowded. The majority of the people staying in the complex were unexpectedly French Canadian, so we did not hear much English, which was nice. The overall experience was fantastic—perhaps one of the best beach vacations that either of us have had. We would definitely recommend this apartment to friends and we would go back ourselves.

I am a teacher and am fortunate to have the summers off. I was so happy to find this beautiful affordable apartment right on the beach. The unit has cathedral ceilings and is very large as well as spotless. The complex is absolutely beautiful. A driver met me at the airport which was wonderful as I had not been to the country before. The driver took me to get groceries, then we met Elke at the door where she presented the keys and showed me around the apartment and grounds. She explained how things worked and what the area offered as far as activities. My first week I didn't do a thing but lay by the pool with my headphones on and tuned the world out. I swear I didn't even put make up on the whole time I was there, it was bliss. The pool is beautiful, crystal clear and right by the ocean, which I also love. After my "down time" I checked out the area and went to the Casino, went horseback riding and visited Ocean World for the big show.
The kitchen has everything you could want for in it but there are many great restaurants. My routine was to cook 4 nights a week and eat out the other three. The security is very good in the complex and was never an issue, I stayed by myself and always felt safe.
I would highly reommend this condo to everyone
