The best description of Wanggulay and the beautiful rainforest it is located in ( just 11 kilometres from Cairns), and the best way to spend your precious time here comes from our many guests comments. Here is just a small sampling of those comments.
"It is now 3 months later and I still think of this house every day. Apologies for the delay but I am now back on my travels again with some time on my hands. This is the most amazing house I have stayed in. Particularly loved the different levels then all the party could come together for meals etc on the main balcony. Very well equipped kitchen and great barbeque. Eveything worked a treat WI-FI etc. We were having a family reunion with my brother who we had not been with for 20 years. Next time I want to stay a least a week great activities in the area. Thank you for the wonderful stay and all the personal touches. No expense spared here in making it a beautiful home. "
Geraldine
"A friend and I stayed at Wanggulay for 6 days. The setting is spectacular and the view from the back deck over the fast flowing stream is stunning. Privacy is assured as the house is nestled right into World Heritage rainforest. The atmosphere of this rainforest 'treehouse' was indeed unique with beautiful blue butterflies flying past all day and colourful parrots and white cockatoos calling in the trees adjacent. The beauty of the natural environment was complemented by high standard furnishings and modern appliances and a luxurious contemporary living design in a house which could accommodate several family groups comfortably. The pool area is secluded and yet easily accessible to the home interior. This house and its environment are a unique experience of tropical elegance and charm. It is definitely five star accommodation that is one with nature!"
Ross
"Wangulay was the perfect break. The perfectly designed home in the treetops provided the ultimate escape for our romantic sojourn. Can't wait to go back."

""Paradise in the Treetops" Thank you Wanggulay for a memorable stay. Who needs to travel to Bali when it is right here. The house is romantic, soft lights, calming aromas, waking up every day looking at natures magic. We could not have asked for more. Our honeymoon ended too quickly in paradise!"
Mark and Donna
"Well after spending 14 nights in this beautiful house I have to agree with all the comments of the previous guests. I was particularly impressed with the attention to detail, the welcoming aroma of burning oil on arrival, the beautiful linen and the fresh flower arrangement and large fruit bowl. Thank you for a great stay!"
Mary
"It was wet, wet, wet, but what a wonderful experience. Baron River Gorge, Cape Tribulation, walks along pristine beaches. The sun may have refused to show its face but the warmth and ambience of Wanggulay more than compensated. Evenings were spent cooking and bbqing and sitting on the wonderful verandah reminiscing of past times. This was a reunion of two old school friends which will never be forgotten. Many thanks for the use of Wanggulay!"

"So sad to leave.... When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Karen, immaculately presented along with the house. Wanggulay speaks for itself 5 days of rain was perfect for our rainforest retreat, stocked up on wine, good food, we had a fabulous time. We will be back!!"

"Thanks for a relaxing time in this tree top house - loved the Balinese day bed on the verandah. Have been inspired house design- we just have to find a rainforest in Canberra to build it in...Thanks Again hope to return sometime!"

"As a group of 6 we all had a wonderful time in this amazing house. The surrounds and serenity were most beautiful and relaxing. We would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone and would love to experience Wanggulay again in the near future!"

Melbourne, AustraliaJust stunning! everything you coud possibly want in one house
Left on 01/13/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We stayed for a week at the start of Jan and loved it! On the second day we invited family to come back with us next year!
The house is spacious, relaxing, stunning and fully equipt.
The pool is amazing and even has hydro bubbles for a light spa feel if wanted. We were in it every day without fail, we had wonderful weather so didnt need to use the heater function but was nice to know it was there.
Each room has air con for comfort and the beds and pillows are simply divine!.
Gary met us at the property and made some excellent suggestions on what to do during our stay. -

Winnipeg, ManitobaWow - what an incredible place!
Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed at Wanggulay for 3 nights in august 2012, and wished it could have been longer. In our group were 4 adults and two children (10 and 8 yrs), and we could have easily fit a total of 10, as the website suggests.
The location of this property is ideal - within a 15-minute drive of Cairns, but far enough away to be quiet and rural. The scenery is wonderful - nestled in a forest, at the top of a river gorge. Even during the aussie "winter", there was abundant bird and animal life.
The house itself is the essence of elegance and luxury, both inside and out. As much as the nearby attractions beckon (Great Barrier Reef; SkyTrain; Tjapukaii aborrginal centre), the place is so nice that you just want to hang out and relax there!
We had various conversations (on the phone and in person) with Gary, the property manager, and he was always very gracious, friendly, and accommodating.
In brief, we would highly recommennd this property to anyone staying in the Cairns area. It is truly a unique and special place.

We stayed in Wanggulay on our honeymoon and it is a stunning house amongst the trees, its fells like you are in a hidden retreat in the trees but its only a few minutes drive to all amenities. the house is furnished beautifully, we absolutely loved it. The owners were only a phone call away if we needed to ask anything. Wish we could go back!

Our stay at Wanggulay was awesome! There was never a dull moment. My husband and I enjoyed the peaceful retreat and all the natural surroundings. The BBQ, day bed and swimming pool were a bonus. We would definitely visit Wanggulay again soon!

Left on 07/11/2012 for a stay in June 2012
What can I say that sums this house up in a paragraph? It will leave lasting happy memories. Highlights include open air balcony dining beside the forest with the wonderful sound track played out by the local wildlife. We couldn't get the children out of the plunge pool, they loved it.
On a practical level the house was well equipped and we fully appreciated the stocked pantry for bits and pieces. We loved sharing the house with geckos which serenaded us with chirps throughout the evening. A perfect base for exploring North Queensland. Thank you for sharing your fantastic home.Response from Gary Haddock - 07/23/2012

Hi Nina,
The aim of building Wanggulay into the canopy of the rainforest was to put nature near the balcony. There are so many wonderful native birds and butterflies that inhabit the area we just love seeing them so close and hearing them too! The pool is a favourite, we look forward to welcoming you back.
all the best and thanks again!

I enjoyed the tranquility of the property and its proximity to lovely bushwalking regions, creeks and rainforest feshness. The property was well equipped, immaculately clean and decorated with indonesian style wall hangins and indoor/outdoor furnishings that suited the overall property presentation. I felt as though I was in Ubud in Bali with the rainforest, decor indoors and peaceful nature. Four generous bedrooms and 3+ bathrooms were excellent for several couples or friends to break away for quiet time before resuming social interactions on the spacious top or lower deck or poolside. A trully special and restorative getaway so accessible from Cairns airport, city centre.

Hi Deb
Thank you for your comments.
we love the access to the marked walking trails of the Barron River Gorge national park right from our door at Wanggulay. Each time we go we try a new trail, next trip Kuranda to Cairns, a 12 kilometre walk along the ridge next to the gorge and if we are felling lazy we can always come back down on the Skyrail - how lucky we all are!

MelbourneOasis in the rainforest
Left on 06/14/2012 for a stay in August 2011
Wangulay was the perfect setting for an indulgent and relaxing weekend. Located in the rainforest but in proximity to Cairns township and airport, we felt far enough away from the real world to completely unwind yet close enough to make the most of nearby beaches - when the moment felt right. The very thoughtful approach of the owners is evident in quality furnishings and fittings, and the delights of Wangulay's natural surrounds speak for themselves. Highly recommended.

Thanks Judy,
It was a pleasure welcoming you and your group to Wanggulay! We are delighted that you enjoyed our innovative Asian fusion deigned interior. We love Bali and asked our interior designer and architect to carefully select the Wanggulay furnishings and build Wanggulay in the style and with the grace found at places like the Four Season Resorts in Bali. The finishing touches of the richly expansive living areas with high ceilings, lush garden, over sized outdoor living areas, and personal courtyard with the private bridge-way access from the master bedroom to the pool has created that. Our only regret as owners is that we cant stay at Wanggulay more often! -

Dubai, UAEAmazing house to experience the tropical setting of Cairns
Left on 09/22/2010 for a stay in August 2010
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Wanggulay house in beautiful tropical Cairns. We found the house extremely comfortable, luxurious and catered for all our needs and beyond. We loved the Bali inspired decor, and the house had a great open plan for a family, with plenty of space for everyone. Both the levels of decking around the house were absolutely amazing, and allowed us to enjoy inside and out. The Pool was breath-taking ! Fantastic tropical setting. Thankyou very much for a great stay.

Darwinholiday in the Cairns rainforest
Left on 09/19/2010 for a stay in August 2010
This beautifully presented holiday house is nestled against the world heritage rainforest near Cairns and backs onto a fast flowing crystal clear stream. It is luxuriously appointed so days can be spent on the spacious verandah where birds and butterflies inhabit the trees that envelope the house. The many well-appointed bedrooms and bathrooms can accommodate a large number of guests or family in comfort and the modern kitchen is ideal for easy catering. Bushwalks to nearby Stoney Creek and its waterholes are easily accessible from the house.
Despite its quiet seclusion, this magnificent rainforest house is just 15 minutes from Cairns International airport and a few minutes further to Cairns city restaurants and shops. In the other direction, the house iis less than 15 minutes drive to Palm Cove restaurants and tourist facilities.Response from Gary Haddock - 05/31/2012
