BrooklynBeautiful views of the atlantic from this lovely house
Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in March 2013
This was our first time visiting Dominica. It lived up to everything we had hoped for: hiking in the rain forest, swimming in fresh water pools below waterfalls, hot springs and pools, beaches, whale sightings, snorkeling. Villa Passiflora is in the northeast of the island above a sleepy village. The house is situated on rocks above the atlantic, an easy walk to a lovely beach, with amazing views of the coastline. The house itself has nice amenities, great baths and beds, lovely pool to float in to watch the stars at night. Services were great - after a long day of hiking to Boiling Lake it was wonderful to come back to a home-cooked meal by the housekeeper waiting on the stove. Only negative is that you had to lock yourself and all rooms when you went to bed at night and when you leave due to potential petty crime, although we never felt threatened while in Dominica. To the contrary, all the locals seemed lovely, once you struck up a conversation. House was quite nice, with hammocks nicely placed, great wifi, and helpful caretakers. One thing - stairs are uneven, which means you have to pay attention when going up and down. Maybe not ideal for young kids or older people with balance issues. Use local guides to take you to the best places, and enjoy the beauty of this unusual island.

Paradise found!
We had the most amazing week in Dominica at Villa Passiflora. The house itself was so much nicer than we had imagined, it is all we had dreamed of in a Carribean destination. Stylish, natural and very comfortable without being ostentatious. You immediately feel at one with your surroundings which are stunning! If you can prise yourself away from the pool and terrace, a short walk takes you to an amazing stretch of coast with interesting rock formations and a lovely beach. The village of Calibishie is charming, authentic and a great place to enjoy the local food. The surrounding vegetation was so lush and beautiful we felt like we were holidaying in a tropical paradise, with amazing walks to waterfalls and stunning beaches, eating coconuts off the beach, and fresh bananas and mangoes from the roadside stalls. Everybody was so friendly, especially the housekeeper who made us feel like family. We were thoroughly charmed by the place and hope to return as soon as we can. Many thanks to all. -

phoenixA perfect place in paradise

Our family found Villa PassiFlora while we were looking for a place to bring all of our adult children to scuba dive, snorkel and make special memories. From the moment you catch a glimpse of this property driving up the driveway, you are taken in by its magic. This is a perfect place to enjoy the diverse Caribbean jewel of Dominica. It is located just above an amazing beach with ocean breezes to lull you to sleep. The house is meticulously maintained and caretakers are on the property to assist, but are quietly in the background. The home is even more beautiful than the website pictures can capture. A negative edge pool draws you into a place where you can appreciate an incredible wide-angle view while cooling off, chatting with family and enjoying a delicious rum punch. The housekeeper makes a fresh loaf of bread every morning and fresh tropical fruit is abundant. Calibishie is a perfect location for exploring all the nature the island has to offer-waterfalls, rainforest, hot pools, hiking, beautiful (empty) beaches... You can experience driving on the left side of the road through endless rain forest. Oxygen levels have to be some of the highest on the planet! Diving is superb. This is a treasure of a vacation spot and we would all go again in a heartbeat. (It may not be the spot for some who are challenged by stairs.)

Villa Passi Flora is the ultimate in vacation home rentals. Not only is the island beautiful, but this villa is completely furnished with everything you would need...the kitchen has every tool, pan, gadget; the beds were extremely comfortable, and the open shower bath was wonderful. The furnishings were so comfortable and plentiful, that it made you feel as if you were in your own home.
The staff is fantastic,, and the open air feeling of the villa is great. Perched on a cliff, with multiple alternate level verandas, you have sweeping views of the atlantic ocean, and striking views of nearby beach, cliffs and gardens. It is on the north side of the island, nestled in a small, friendly village; away from the hustle and bustle of nearby, but much busier villages. Easy to buy groceries, walk, hike and the scuba diving is very nice. I would recommend hiring a car for convenience..
I would certainly recommend PassiFlora Villa to anyone who wants peace, quiet, beauty and appreciate hiking and discovering the nature of this island. -

Awesome, perfect and wonderful. The pictures you see on the internet don't do the house or the island justice...nor could they as they are both amazing. Before the trip the owner of the house, Bruce, is extremely helpful and informative about both the island and the house. The staff at the house take great care of you ...and the fresh juices are die for! One of the best beaches on the island is less than a 10 minutes walk away and you fall asleep every night to the sound of the ocean. If you can't guess I highly recomend staying here!

Villa Passiflora has everything you need for a perfect Caribbean experience...open air living, books and a hammock, hillside views with cooling breezes yet close proximity to a beautiful (and often deserted) swimming beach, a roof deck for sunsets and star gazing, a great Caribbean music collection, nearby shopping and restaurants, a convenient location for exploring the island, and a wonderfully helpful and accommodating staff. I only regret that we didn't have a longer stay and that we missed mango season!

Chattanooga, TennesseeCaribbean Living at its Best
Left on 01/21/2011 for a stay in July 2010
Villa PassiFlora is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever experienced. The view of the atlantic as you sit on the deck by the infinity pool is so relaxing, and the Caribbean style open air atmosphere is so refreshing. The rooms are lovely, clean and each has its own bath. At the top of the stairs is the "observatory" where you can sit and see the stars from the roof after sunset.
The grounds of Villa PassiFlora are planted with native fruit trees, flowers, and shrubs. Stephan, the groundskeeper maintains a garden, and is always there to assist with whatever you might need.
The trail down to the beach is well maintained. Once you reach the beach you discover a landscape that is dotted with coral reefs that emerge from the ocean inviting you to explore their tiny cities. Clown fish dart and beautiful snails flourish in these sunlit ponds. Just around the next rock, a wide sandy beach beckons, and a lovely cove invites you for a swim.
You will no doubt arrive home hungry after an outing at the beach, and here is where Dominica really shines: the food!
All kinds of fresh foods are available and Isolene is a fabulous cook! The kitchen is well equipped, and there are plenty of cookbooks covering the local cuisine. If you are not inclined to cook, Randy's Restaurant is right down the road, or Isolene can prepare something for you at home. The market is open Saturday and is a must! It is just a short drive to Portsmouth, and the market there has fresh food from local farmers, breads, fruits, sweets, and coconut juice made on the spot with a cutlass! Bring a jug and take some home. The passion fruit was our favorite. Cut them open, scoop out the seeds, put them in the blender, then strain, add water and a bit of sugar, wow! You will crave it all year long.

Miami Beach, FLSpectacular Caribbean Experience
Left on 01/06/2011 for a stay in August 2009
Just 20 minutes from the airport (Melville) immediately relaxes you with the sweet smell of banana leaves from the groves hugging the highway.
Loved my 5 day stay in the village of Calibishe, the Villa has plenty of rooms for a family or friends with 3 magnificent bedrooms with extra beds available for kids. The beautifully designed home with open air veranda to the sea breezes and sounds of waves crashing below. Doze to the sounds of waves crashing and wind blowing through the louvered windows. The lay out of the "green? Villa allows for serenity inside and outside, or for cooking in large spacious kitchen with all green appliances and the furniture and bathroom fixtures are comfortable.
The short drive to Portsmouth, the 2nd largest city and Saturday market is worth it to purchase fruits and veggies from vendors selling organic produce grown in their local gardens. The rich volcanic soil and tropical locale creates pineapples the sweetest I've ever tasted, with luscious mangos.
You must be adventurous and in shape, as this is not a tourist destination and you must have a 4-wheel drive to get to any place or walk, like the locals do. Swim in either the pool, or calm Caribbean or choppier atlantic (some beaches are unsafe), hike to the Boiling Lake (crater) at the top of the 4,000 elevation Mount Trois Pitons National Park. Locals speak English and original Creole patois and are delightfully laid back and live a very natural life.
Walk to the Escape Bar and Grill with open air seating and chairs right on the shore of the atlantic. Swimming is perfect the water is crystal clear to swim position yourself between the red rocks. Beachside chairs provided and order your delicious meal and libation.
Batibou Beach where Pirates of the Caribbean was shot has swaying palm trees and tropical environment was unlike any atlantic/Caribbean beach I've experienced.

From start to finish, PassiFlora Dominica, was exactly the Caribbean getaway I was looking for. No traffic, no traffic jams, no crowded fast food restaraunts. The most beautiful island I've visited. It was truly a photographers dream with all the lush tropical flora and scenery available for shooting.
PassiFlora Dominica's open air floor plan truly enhanced the experience without that boxed in hotel feel. The porch hammocks were a nice retreat after a good swim in the ocean. I'll be back!
