californiaGreat location and amazing view from master bedroom
Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We recently visited the Big Red House with our family of four (or
five, including a four-legged, furry friend.) The location is perfect
as you can walk down the street, cross the PCH and are at Moonstone
Beach for a stroll on the boardwalk. If you go up the street and take
a turn you are on your way into village for shopping and restaurants.
(I suppose you could walk this if you were ambitious, but it's more
like a close drive.) You are quite close to The Hearst Castle if that
happens to be on your hit list and as the owner, Elaine, let us know
it is precisely 22 minutes to the nearest Paso winery. (Of course
there are some wonderful tasting rooms in town if you don't want to
drive that far.)
The view from the master bedroom is just amazing. If you open all the
blinds and curtains you have almost a 360 degree view of the ocean,
and a private deck to go out on. (There is also a downstairs deck
that is nice for eating out.) The DVD collection almost convinces you
that just staying home and watching movies all day and enjoying the
view would be just fine. The kitchen is quite well-equipped and the
home is filled with all sorts of unusual art, which I appreciated.
Elaine baked us some homemade muffins that were left out for our
arrival. Not sure if this is customary for every guest or we just got
lucky, but they were delicious and a welcome treat after being on the
road. She also took our picture for the guestbook (with our dog)
before we left and made every attempt to make sure we had everything
we needed during our stay. All in all this is a great home for a
getaway on the Central Coast and we would defnitely return. -

Munich, GermanyTolles Haus in super Lage
Left on 07/03/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Los Angeles, CaliforniaAmazing place to stay when visiting Cambria
Left on 06/24/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I found The Big Red House when I was looking for dog-friendly lodging so we could bring our labrador on vacation with us. What a treasure! This house is Lovely, and the property owner couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. The house comes equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, from fluffy blankets and pillows, to dishes and flatware, to menus for the local restaurants! Did I mention the beautiful ocean view?! Truly, every time we stay here, I have to pinch myself. Do yourself a favor, and book your next trip at The Big Red House.

Wauwatosa, WIPerfect 'home' environment away from home!
Left on 02/21/2012 for a stay in November 2011
We chose the Big Red House as the 'halfway' point between San Diego & San Francisco as we had children in both cities. It was more than perfect and Elaine, the proprietor, who lives in an adjacent home, was attentive to our every need.
The house is fully equipped - we made our Thanksgiving Day dinner there, and then fully used and appreciated the nearby hiking trails, proximity to the ocean (I discovered that I could walk to the boardwalk in just 5 minutes and see seals & an otter plus bird life in part of California's protected coastline!)
The Hearst Castle is just minutes north as is a Ca State Park with hiking trails. The small town of Cambria has a nice grocery store and a coffee shop. There are multiple vineyards just east. There is plenty to fill one's days and a warm inviting 'home', with fireplace and a view of the ocean upon return. Plenty of parking, no traffic, and dogs are welcome.
The master bedroom has a spectacular view of the ocean plus its own deck, as well as having an additional deck off of the living room. Because the owner is a movie buff, you can plan on spending a considerable amount just perusing the collection of Dvds.

Alamo, CAGreat location, good value, beautifully furnished
Left on 07/03/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We loved Elaine's beautifully furnished home for the two of us, our two grandchildren and our two dogs. The kids loved the extensive collection of videos, we loved the beautiful view, furnishings and artwork. We also appreciated the ability to leave our dogs in the unit -- in our case the garage -- while we went out to places the dogs couldn't come.

BromsgroveAmazing experience - our 13th visit!
Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Our april stay was our 13th visit to the Big Red House in Cambria. We live in the UK but are lucky enough to be able to travel to the us a couple of times a year. No matter what state we are visiting in the us, we always make sure that we include a stay at the Big Red House in Cambria. The location, just a 10 minute walk from the beach and the amazing ocean views make every stay here fantastic. Elaine has created a truly fabulous 'home away from home' and our stay here is always a highlight of our trip. We are returning once again in august for what will undoubtedly be another wonderful 5 star experience.

Marina, CAWe'll be back!
Left on 05/30/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Primarily, we really appreciated that dogs are welcomed. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac. There are ocean views from both levels of the house. Every possible amenity or potential forgotten item is thought of: it is as if you are in your own home! The house is filled with interesting art that makes you wonder what their stories are. The owner supplies a large selection of local guides and references for the area. There is even a barbeque area in the back. I really can't say enough! Enjoy your time at The Big Red House!
