Romantic and unique: The perfect getaway for two

Left on 12/02/2012 for a stay in November 2012

I received this trip as a gift from my fiance for my birthday. We both enjoy the outdoors and she knew this would be perfect. I have to say it truly was amazing. The farmhouse is picturesque, adjacent to a small pond, overlooking the mountains from its southern facing sunroom. Inside is well decorated with period furniture and original hardwood floors. It has all of the off-angle, layered change that makes a home like this perfect.
Andre and Magda are the best hosts imaginable. They welcomed us to the farmhouse then allowed us to settle in. We were given the option to enjoy the farm experience as much or as little as we liked.
The farm is truly amazing. I'm not sure if its the unlikely roommates: the zebra and the donkey, the cattle with their comical hair dos, or the crazy cat from the barn, but it is a magical place. We got to help with the horses, the sheep, and also had a beautiful sunset ride with andre and Magda on their atvs on the 136 acre farm.
In truth, it is Magda and andre's warmth and their love for the property and each other that makes it unforgettable. We loved participating in the reciprocal nature of the farm with fertilizer from the animals feeding the hay, the hay feeding the animals, the natural grass fed cattle living the way farms used to be.
Our friends have asked "Why would you go work on a farm for a weekend?" It is not at all that simple. We slept in and lounged around the farmhouse through the mornings. We cooked a great dinner together courtesy of grass fed beef from the farm and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. We experienced the farm at our leisure.
In all it was an opportunity to experience a more honest way of life, where we could see what we'd accomplished at the end of the day with our own hands and soak up the simplicity of that. These moments are slowly going missing in america today and my hat is off to Magda and andre and to the sacrifice they've made to keep those moments alive and share them.

      Complete Peace and Tranquility

Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Magda and andre happen to be two of the most genuinely kind and caring individuals, not to mention talented and impressive in their own ambitions! Their openness to letting their guests engage in any aspect of their farming lives is beyond generous considering the two of them alone care for the entire farm. The animals are hilarious in that they love guests and will come out to say hello whenever you walk by. The farm house itself is adorable! Magda and andre take extra special care of the property, growing plants on the front porch, leaving nice items in the house that add that extra special touch to the stay. The view is panoramic and breathtaking. If you are looking for a peaceful place to stay, this is it! Yet it also has fun with the farm for kids if a family wants to stay too. For myself, it was a peaceful getaway from an otherwise busy and demanding lifestyle. I will definitely be returning whenever I need to regroup! I highly recommend this house as a rental, for it is not as much a house, but more a home!

A Stay at Heydenrych Farms Feels Like Coming Home!

Left on 08/20/2012 for a stay in August 2012

The generosity and hospitality extended by hosts Magda and andre Heydenrych make it impossible to feel like guests. While visiting this special farm, you quickly feel like you're staying with family.

Magda and andre welcomed us not only into their guest house, but onto their farm, and into their lives. They told us stories of their adventures in farming, happily welcomed us to participate in farm life (mucking out stalls, feeding and caring for the cows, sheep, horses, donkey and zebra) as we pleased. We learned about soap making and created a gorgeous batch of our own soap with Magda. They even arranged a visit to a nearby alpaca farm.

The house was spotlessly clean, with all of the amenities of home. We appreciated the extra touches: bookshelves stocked with interesting books for readers of all ages, cards and games available to while away the evening hours, and delightful lavender soap in the bathroom, handcrafted by Magda herself.

The house is well appointed with ample space to relax, a gorgeous sun porch for watching the sunset over the mountains, comfortable beds for sleeping, laundry facilities, and a spacious kitchen for preparing meals.

And oh what meals we prepared! We can honestly say that the tenderloin steaks from the farm were the best we've ever had. The whole chicken we roasted was tender and succulent. We picked fresh vegetables from the garden (cabbage, tomatoes, peppers and beets) and devoured Magda's delicious beet chutney! Mmm!

From a tractor ride with andre, to uncovering the age-old question, "is a zebra black with white stripes, or white with black stripes?" our farm stay was more than we could have imagined. We booked our stay as a fun family getaway. We ended up with an educational, life-enriching experience. And indeed had a lot of fun, too!

Just as when staying with family, our time on the farm passed too quickly and we are anxious to return again!

      Spacious and Relaxing

Left on 08/18/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We spent 2 relaxing nights at this beautiful house adjacent to a working farm. Our gracious hosts treated us to a tour of their barn with cows, horses, sheep, a donkey and a zebra, which our kids loved. The house was big (plenty of room for 6 of us) and very relaxing. The grass-fed beef was delicious as were the hand-picked vegetables from their garden. We were close to our destination of Cooperstown. My only regret is that our plans didn't permit us to stay longer.

      Great Family Getaway

Left on 07/24/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We had a wonderful, relaxing two night stay at the farm. Magda and andre were wonderful and caring hosts who spent a lot of time showing us around the farm, letting us help with farm activities such as feeding the animals and picking onions from the garden. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy. The farm house was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, including a grill for the amazingly delicious steaks we bought from them. The kids are still talking about the trip and can't wait to return.

What a great place to relax!!!

Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed at this wonderful farmhouse the first week of July, 2012. The house is lovely. It has plenty of room and has been thoroughly updated with a modern kitchen and bath. There is a great sunroom for your first cup of morning coffee with a view of the pond and fields. We were able to bring our dogs with us and they enjoyed long walks around the pond and the chance to meet the cows that live behind the house. There is also a front porch if you prefer to have that first cup of coffee sitting outside. Magda and andre went out their way to make us feel welcome. Magda picked up eggs for us from a local farm that were outstanding and sold us hamburgers and steaks from their own grass-fed beef. There are books available and games to play if you like such as scrabble and monopoly. This is a very comfortable place to relax and there are things of interest close by if that is your preference or you can work on the farm and get a sense of what it takes to run a successful farm today.
