A local lad shins up a coconut tree, cows stand patiently tethered in surrounding fields, dragonflies hover, bamboo penjor hang over the roads to celebrate the latest festival, fishermen cast their nets from the nearby black sandy beaches – welcome to the real Bali. Until 2008 the area around Candidasa was isolated from high pressure tourism by a three and a half hour winding road trip (now one hour with the opening of the Denpasar – KlungKung bypass) resulting in a charmingly traditional feel. Villa Asada is part of the Kalyana Bay Estate, an estate of 7 villa plots. 2 villas are finished and the remaining plots are stepped and levelled but there is no sign of any construction activity (2008). Villa Asada is set back from the sea by about 100 metres and commands stunning views of the bay and Lombok Island in the distance. Immediately around the villa is little of consequence ensuring complete peace and quiet. The track back to the road is dotted with local village houses concentrated near the main Candi Dasa Road about 1 km back. Just along from the villa is the black sand beach of Buitan with a quaint local fishing village and the 4 star Alila Resort with its top class spa.
