What if you want to enjoy the legendary beaches, chic bars and boutiques, world-class restaurants and cosmopolitan life of Seminyak? But you also want to explore the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali that is Ubud, made famous by the book and movie "Eat, Pray, Love"? And in addition you yearn to experience the lush green rice paddies, jungles, mountains, and untouched Balinese village life that made the island famous in the first place? Surely you can't get it all while staying in just one place?
Welcome to Mandalay Hideaway. We are ideally located in between Seminyak (25 minutes) and Ubud (40 minutes along enchanting country roads), only 45 minutes from the international airport and less than five minutes from the ocean and endless unspoilt beaches. You'd like to have lunch in Ubud, a walk along the beach in the afternoon, then sunset cocktails and dinner in Seminyak? Then you've picked the ideal place to stay.
If this weren't enough, the mystical sea temple of Tanah Lot, one of Bali's foremost cultural attractions, is a mere seven minute drive from Mandalay, through untouched Balinese villages. And when you've watched the sun set into the ocean behind it, you'll find the five-star Pan Pacific Resort immediately next door, offering a selection of gourmet restaurants and elegant bars as well as an 18-hole golf course designed by Greg Norman and voted as Asia's best five years in a row, with exclusive discounts available for Mandalay guests. A ten minute drive from Mandalay in the other direction brings you to the Alila Soori, a fabulous five star retreat with mouth-watering cuisine - with a 20% discount for Mandalay guests - and a world-class spa. And only twenty minutes from your door you'll find the Canggu Club, Bali's foremost private members club where you're an honorary member for the duration of your stay. This means that you have full complimentary access to their 25m pool, fully-equipped gym, tennis and squash courts, sauna and steam room, billiard lounge, library, and children's club and can enjoy their restaurant and bar.
Your dedicated chauffeur and car are always on standby to take you wherever you want to go, making Bali yours to discover, effortlessly. And at the end of the day, rather than being surrounded by the bustle and traffic of Seminyak or Ubud in a view-less villa, you can instead retreat to your own private hideaway in the heart of the real Bali, waking up the next morning to the sound of birdsong and the most enchanting views you could possibly imagine.

This was our first trip to Bali, infact the first holiday since we have had kids. Mandalay Hideaway welcomed us with open arms for 8 days and gave us everything we could ever ask for ….. and more.
We wanted somewhere where we could relax and unwind with the kids in a setting that would give us a taste of the real Bali, well that is exactly what we got, we loved the ‘hideaway’ location, yet, as andy (the owner) mentioned to us, the villa is not too far away from some of Bali’s attractions and with our personal driver (we loved him) , we visited Tannah Lot, Canngu beach, Pan Pacific resort for dinner, Ubud, the Canngu Club and the Elepahant Safari Park plus a leisurely drive around some of the local villages.
My wife loved the massages and beauty treatments that the concierge organised for her (we loved her too !!). We only ate out a couple of times as we enjoyed the in-house cooking sooo much, a great selection and we too loved those freshly baked banana pancakes as did the kids.
Being in the accommodation industry ourselves and owning several luxury holiday houses in australia, we could not fault Mandalay Hideaway. The villa is extremely comfortable, lovely modern interior, quiet, has a fantastic pool and areas where you can relax, read a book and take a nap. Needless to say, it has all the necessary conveniences that go with a property of this class.
Kids, well with a pool, TV, movies and a lawn area they were well and truly entertained…..and tired by the end of the day ;-)
We will be staying there again on our next trip……….cannot wait andy !!! -

Amsterdam, The NetherlandsNice four star property
Left on 08/31/2012 for a stay in July 2012
The property is very nice but there are some things to consider prior to booking. it is in an isolated area with little that is within walking distance. It is great to have a driver and car available to take you out and about but the island is not easy to traverse due to roads and traffic. The staff keeps the property in good shape and very clean. They wash, dry and iron laundry daily which is a nice service. They prepare breakfast for you daily and will offer to cook other meals off of a menu card in a restaurant like approach. This is nice if you want to have all meals served by the staff but not if you want to keep your own groceries and grab things as you wish since their preference is to lock down the refrigerator although they did keep it open and available for us to store cold drinks. They offer cold drinks (beer, wine, etc), and Nespresso coffee as a minibar type service. The staff is pleasant and will do their utmost to assist you.
This is not a 5* villa but it is a nice comfortable space with a nice pool and view over rice paddies. In terms of value with all of the up-charges it is not the best value for two people but for a family or a few couple, it may offer a better value.Response from Andy Benfield - 09/19/2012
Owner
Many thanks for your review. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and particularly the service of our staff and the condition of the villa. We would like to add some additional information on a couple of points about Mandalay that you raised:
- Location: we do indeed pride ourselves on our “hideaway” location, offering peace and tranquillity in the heart of the real Bali, away from the tourist crowds and traffic. However we are still very much within easy striking distance of Bali’s main attractions, restaurants, bars and boutiques. We are only 25 minutes drive from Seminyak, 40 minutes from Ubud and 45 minutes from the airport. We’re also less than 5 minutes from the ocean and beautiful unspoilt beaches, 7 minutes from Tanah Lot (one of Bali’s foremost cultural attractions), and 10 minutes from two exceptional five star resorts, the Pan Pacific and the Alila Soori, both of whom kindly give special recognition and discounts to Mandalay guests. We aim to make getting around as easy as possible by having our luxury vehicle and chauffeur at guests’ disposal 24/7 at no extra charge. As we mention on our website “You’d like to have lunch in Ubud, a walk along the beach in the afternoon, then sunset cocktails and dinner in Seminyak? Then you’ve picked the ideal place to stay.” More information on the benefits that our location has to offer are available on the dedicated page of our website.?
- Dining: to make things easy for guests and to offer a more boutique hotel like experience, we offer an extensive in-villa menu which is cooked to order by our gourmet chef. However, if guests do prefer the approach of asking the chef to buy ingredients for them, or even cooking for themselves, this is absolutely no problem. While the chef’s fridge and our separate staff building and storage area are not open to guests - as would be the case in any hotel or restaurant - we do provide a dedicated guest fridge within the villa containing cold drinks and snacks and of course guests are very welcome to store any food they buy themselves there.? ?
- Charges: we offer an all-inclusive rate (including tax, service, car, driver, personal chef, butler and concierge, breakfast, tea & coffee, mineral water, laundry, unlimited wi-fi, welcome massage, daily newspaper, VIP airport clearance and complimentary honorary membership of Bali’s foremost private members’ club, the Canggu Club.) This means that the only extras charged to guests are any food, beverages and spa services taken at the villa along with petrol, billed at cost.
- Rates: to ensure that we provide good value, we adjust our rates depending on the number of people staying so that, for example, a party of two can enjoy the villa for only $399 per night, a party of four for $499 per night, and a party of six for $599 per night.
We aim to offer the privacy, dedicated staff and bespoke service of a luxury villa alongside the amenities, standards and attention to detail of a five-star hotel. For example, our concierge, chef, butler and villa attendants ensure that every need is taken care of and special requests are our specialty; an extensive menu and wine list are on offer and guests can enjoy in-villa spa treatments such as Balinese massages on our Jari Menari massage tables; we offer a state of the art entertainment system (HD TVs, PlayStation 3, Apple TV, Blu-Ray player, wi-fi and media library).
But we believe it’s the little things that really make a difference, things like designer Mandalay Dreams toiletries, morning and afternoon “coffee & cookies” service, in-room safes, i-phone speaker docks, a daily turn-down service, and in-villa butler call buttons. We have been honoured to receive recognition for our service by being judged by Chic Retreats, Great Small Hotels of the World, Hip Hotels and Splendia Luxury Hotels as worthy of joining their portfolios of exclusive properties and by being featured in the 2012 Asia Villa Guide as well as in Bali Style Magazine. We have also been rated “Excellent” by TripAdvisor and were the recipient of the 2011 Vacation Rental of the Year award from Flip Key, TripAdvisor’s sister company specialising in private homes and villas.
Once again we would like to thank you for having chosen to stay with us and hope to welcome you at Mandalay again some time in the future.
Best Regards,
Andy ???

Imagine a very chic house nested at the edge of a little Indonesian village, overlooking rice fields and vegetation, ranging from the palest to the most vivid green, tinted with touches of red, yellow and white that will diffuse the delicate fragrances of frangipani flowers.
Imagine entering a house already full of travelling souvenirs, books on the shelves that talk of of the owner's experiences, a house that welcomes you in a rich, sensitive and generous way once you step inside and enter peaceful rooms . You feel like at home.
Swimmimng at night in an undisturbed environment is such a beautiful feeling at Mandalay.
What about services ? Excellent. The staff are available upon request from 7:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. Friendly, welcoming trying to meet all your wishes, they can give you the best advice to make your stay a dream.
What about food ? Divine due to an excellent cook who prepares your meals in the most generous and delicate way.
Without mentioning all the hazardous great opportunities we had meeting with village people.
We all warmly recommend Mandalay and will surely come back

Many thanks indeed and we're very happy that you enjoyed your stay! Just a note to reassure readers that "hazardous", which means dangerous in English, is here (I assume!) a mis-translation from the French word "hasard" meaning "by chance" - thus they were in fact chance encounters with villagers rather than risky ones :-)

Left on 04/02/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We stayed there for 10 days in March, and had a wonderful time. When you are a family with teenagers, the convenience and cost far outweighed having to pay for two rooms in a nice hotel. The villa is large and comfortable with a nice pool. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, and there are several patios and poolside sitting areas for relaxing outside. The villa is perched over rice fields with a stunning view. Also, the location of the villa is perfect in that it's 5 minutes from a wonderful beach, and strategically located so that it's not too far from most of the major areas on any tourist agenda in any direction.
But, aside from the very comfortable villa itself, Mandalay goes the extra mile for you with free daily laundry service, free internet, airport pick-up and return, a free driver 24/7(you pay for gas), free breakfast (maybe not for a family of 7!), and very reasonable prices on their many outstanding lunch and dinner items.
But what made Mandalay especially memorable for us were the people working there. There are 7 people working at this villa. They are all wonderful people who go out of their way to make you happy, and very flexible to adjust their style to fit your living rhythms.
You leave Mandalay not saying to yourself "I now need a vacation from my vacation" because living there felt a bit like being at home . . . and we also made several new friends with the staff. -

Hi andy
Firstly sorry about the delay but this is the first time since getting back 2 weeks ago that I have had a chance to sit down and write this!
I would just like to thankyou from the bottom of my heart for all you and your Staff did to make our stay so special at Mandalay. Since arriving back in australia I have been raving to friends and family about Mandalay Hide away and have passed the website link to many of them.
The Mandalay Villa is beautiful but the buildng is not what makes it special. It is the service and care and love Rida and all the staff put into our stay that made it so special.
Over the 5 days all the staff became part of our family and our kids adored them all.
The team is what makes Mandalay so special and they are second to none. The way they assisted me in making my wife Sonia's 40th B'day special and keeping all the arrangements secret (especially the big one around her Mother and Sister flying in to visit for her B'day and getting your driver Manny to pick them up) it was a full team effort and one I commend.
Every staff member was in on the surprise and did their best to make it a success. It is this care and attention to detail which gives your villa its "soul and life". When people ask me what the difference is in staying at Mandalay and a resort this is what I tell them.
I would not hesitate to recommend Mandalay Hideaway to anyone. Please feel free to use this testimonial in your advertising.

Perth, Western AustraliaFantastic 5 Day Stay at Mandalay Hideaway!
Left on 03/21/2012 for a stay in March 2012
In early March 2012 my family and I (husband and nearly 4 year old twins) stayed at Mandalay Hideaway for 5 nights to celebrate my 40th birthday. Mandalay was everything we wished for, private, secluded, luxurious, pampering and relaxing.
From the very first enquiry andy's service was second to none, answering every question (there were many) promptly and informatively.
Mandalay provides so many extras you don't normally see in private villas, from VIP customs clearance, a villa car and driver on call 24 hours, free wifi, free laundering (a blessing with kids), complimentary breakfast every morning, full staff so you don't need to lift a finger, air conditioning in every room (not just bedrooms) access to the Canngu Club, in house wellness menu (read - heavenly massages at a reasonable cost) etc etc.
The location is perfect if you want to get away from it all, it's a good 40 minute drive from Kuta / Seminyak which is just how we liked it. Surrounded by Balinese countryside you really feel immersed in the real Bali. There are plenty of dining options nearby (although we mostly ate from the in-villa menu cooked by the lovely villa chef Wayan).
The staff are the villa's greatest asset, nothing is too much trouble. Our concierge Rida, driver Manik and Chef Wayan (and all the assistants) were so friendly and helpful, even helping my husband throw a surprise bbq seafood lunch and smuggling my mother and sister into the villa to celebrate my birthday. Such a lovely surprise!
I would recommend Mandalay Hideaway as the ideal holiday get away in Bali.

Dhahran, Saudi ArabiaHorrible experience with major maintenance needed...
Left on 01/11/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We were greeted by staff on arrival, very nice. We settled in after taking a tour and observing the amenities. The villa looked nice but is in desperate need of major maintenance.
Rodents. The first night we were watching a movie and a large rat fell from the ceiling, just missing my sons head and landed on the coffee table. Then the struggle was on to capture the rodent. After a short chase the rodent was terminated.
Power outages. The second day we noticed that the power in the villa kept shutting off. Not once or twice but several times throughout each day and night. We reported this major problem right away and it was finally fixed as we were leaving, two weeks later. As you can understand inconvenience of not having power in the hot climate and trying to cook dinner, it became a major concern and problem.
Fire. The third day, I noticed smoke coming from outside the front door, between the main entrance and wellness room (which was being used as a bedroom). We investigated the smoke and could not determine where it was coming from. A short time later, I noticed the smoke was getting worse. I walked outside the front entrance and observed that the smoke was coming from a fire that was underneath the deck. Security was called and I tried to find a fire extinguisher. The butler said that the fire extinguisher was broken and security finally arrived. It took security about 20 minutes to put out the fire. The fire started from faulty wiring. At this point I was greatly concerned for the safety of our family. I emailed andy and he said that the power company would come out to check on the wiring (they showed up a week later).
Insects. Like I said before, the maintenance is really bad. There are no screens on the windows and about an inch opening around all the doors when shut. In turn, there were just as many insects inside as outside. One afternoon, my wife checked on our two year old son that was taking a nap. She saw hundreds of tiny ants crawling all over him in his bed….downstairs it was not uncommon to see a trail of ants entering the villa from one side and exiting on the other side.
Communications. It was very difficult to reach the concierge. The concierge was supposed to be our contact person with questions; however, we found it more convenient to ask the butler, driver, or chief. The concierge returned calls at least a day later.
Food. The food tasted good going down. It just seemed like a task every day. Eat breakfast, then before the chef leaves we have to order lunch and dinner all at the same time. Toward the middle and end of our trip, everyone was sick! Vomiting and diarrhea. The food was contaminated and we all paid the price greatly. The stomach and intestinal contamination lasted a solid two weeks.
Overall. Never again! When I think back on this experience, I get sick to my stomach! I would recommend staying at a five star resort/hotel.Response from Andy Benfield - 03/04/2012
Owner
As the Owner and Manager of Mandalay Hideaway, I would like to take the opportunity to respond to this review. Firstly, I was very sorry to hear about the negative experiences and that the guest in question was disappointed with their stay. I have tried to respond to each of the points made below, clarifying certain issues as well as correcting a number of inaccuracies which appear in the original review:
- Communications: the concierge arranges with each guest when they would like her to be in attendance at the villa. Outside of these agreed times she is reachable by the dedicated mobile phone which is provided for the guest's exclusive use during their stay. In addition, the butler, villa attendants, security etc. are present throughout the day, either at the villa or on standby in the staff quarters if the guest requires total privacy. In this case, the concierge was present at the villa at every time requested by the guest. We are however aware of one occasion on which she did not answer nor return a call made by the guest. The call in question was made late at night and was a request for an immediate minibar re-stocking which was unfortunately not logistically possible at that hour. This had already been advised to the guest following two calls a few minutes earlier to the concierge and several enquiries from the guest to the villa staff who were on-site. The minibar was restocked as per the guest’s request the next morning.
- Rodent: a small field mouse had indeed regrettably managed to enter the roof cavity from the surrounding rice fields. The staff immediately dispatched with the mouse when it was discovered. The next day, our maintenance man entered the roof and sealed the hole that had been made by the mouse to gain entry, also putting in place a metal cover to prevent this ever happening again. In addition, we brought in a pest control team to check the property and it was found to be clear. We very much understood the concern of the guest and offered dinner and wine on the house that evening as a small token of our regret. We are pleased to report that there have been no similar such incidents either before or since.
- Power outages: the Bali Power Company carried out unscheduled maintenance on the island's main power plant during the guest's stay, a situation that was unfortunately out of our control. A news article from the Bali Times confirming this is available here: http://www.thebalitimes.com/2009/12/04/pln’s-christmas-gift-to-bali-another-month-of-power-cuts/ This caused three power outages of approximately 15 minutes in the villa, each of which occurred on a separate day. The air conditioners did indeed cut out during these fifteen minute periods and we do understand the discomfort caused. We note however that the villa's cooking equipment is gas powered and so was not affected by the outage. At the guest's request, we brought in an electrician to check that the power cuts had not damaged any of the electrical equipment in the villa as they were concerned that this might cause a safety hazard. Such a check was carried out within 24 hours of each outage and each time the electrician verified that no equipment had been damaged and that no safety hazard existed. We are pleased to report that the Bali Power Company have now completed their maintenance on the island’s main power plant and that no subsequent power cuts have been experienced since these incidents in December 2011.
- Fire: a small fire occurred on the outside pond deck, damaging several square centimetres of it. This was subsequently ascertained to have been started by a cigarette end that was dropped there. It should however be noted that none of the staff are allowed to smoke on the premises. On being advised by the guest, the butler immediately notified the security staff who brought a fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire. This took only a few seconds, though our staff subsequently stayed on for some time to ensure that there was no further smouldering. The butler called to the security officer to assist in this case as he was positioned closest to an extinguisher at the time. The damaged cable which powers the pond fountain was an effect of the fire, not a cause of it. I note that we have three fire extinguishers in the property, all of which are regularly checked for operability, and that all staff are competent in their use, with verification carried out as part of their bi-monthly service refresher training sessions. I also note that no charge was levied as a result of the damage caused to the pond deck and cabling by the dropping of the cigarette.
- Screens: we do not have screens on the windows and doors in the villa as the majority of guests prefer to leave them fully open in the day and enjoy a tropical living experience and unimpeded view. All doors and windows can however be securely shut and locked when required in the evening or when guests prefer to switch on the air conditioning inside during the day. There are no openings around the doors. When doors and windows are open, the occasional insect may naturally pass through, though this has never been raised as an issue by past or subsequent guests and it should be noted that there are no dangerous insects in the area. The villa and grounds are also sprayed regularly with environmentally–friendly products in order to ensure that they are kept insect-free to the greatest extent possible.
- Ants: we note that the incident in question occurred when the child was left by the guest on a large cushion in a shaded area of the garden and that uncovered food was also left by the guest nearby. Our staff had previously advised against both of these practices.
- Sickness: we absolutely refute that any sickness experienced by the guest was caused by food or beverage consumption at Mandalay. Our chef comes from a five-star hotel (http://www.alilahotels.com/soori) and we insist that he and the serving staff maintain the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness. We have never had someone falling sick due to food or beverages served at the villa. We note that the guest did not report, nor show any sign of, sickness during their stay with us. If sickness was experienced after their stay then we would respectfully suggest that the cause may have been food or beverages consumed subsequent to their departure from the villa.
- Lunch and dinner orders: we do indeed ask our guests to let us know their lunch and dinner orders for the day by noon on the day concerned. As we are not a restaurant, but rather a single luxury villa catering to a maximum of six people, it is simply not possible for us to keep in stock all of the fresh ingredients required in the 60+ dishes that we offer on our menu as well as to service any special requests that guests may have. We therefore buy what is needed each day depending on the guest's orders. This does however ensure that we always use the very freshest of ingredients. Nevertheless, we do appreciate that guests may sometimes not want to plan in advance and therefore we also offer a snacks & light meals menu with a more limited selection of dishes which is cooked to order within 30 minutes of a guest's request. Both our full and snacks & light meal menus are available on our website at http://www.mandalayhideaway.com We also note that we do advise all guests of the meal ordering procedure prior to confirming their booking with us as part of the Welcome Portfolio which we send them detailing what they can expect from us.
- Maintenance: I would like to state unequivocally that the villa is in absolutely pristine condition. This is something we take a large amount of pride in and a fact that is frequently remarked upon by our guests. The property and all furniture, equipment and physical infrastructure are checked by staff before and after every guest stay. We have a dedicated staff member to do this who also ensures that any maintenance issues that do come up are immediately attended to.
Finally, I note that I discussed the above issues with the guest personally during their stay and that the version of events described in this review does not correspond to those discussions. It is with regret that I also note that we are still awaiting the payment of a significant final bill for food and beverages more than two months after the stay.

We came across Mandalay Hideaway on Tripadvisor looking for a different experience in Bali. Normally we opt for beach locations as we live in the country but we are so glad we chose differently. Mandalay is an absolutely charming, chic, and oh so comfortable oasis - "far from the Madding crowd". No fighting for space by the pool, no "difficult" fellow hotel/resort mates - just tranquil paradise. The staff, poudly headed by the incomparable Rida offer discreet but complete service and they are simply the lovliest people.
Our reservation was seemless and andy Benfield (the lucky owner of Mandalay) was an absolute dream to deal with - charming, quick to respond and very patient. In fact our initial correspondence with him cemented the fact that Mandalay was going to a special spot - and it really is.
The VIP welcome at Denpasar was so welcome - we were out of the airport into the capable hands of the delightful Manik, our esteemable chauffeur in 15 minutes and on our way.
The villa itself is just delightful - imagine waking up in the morning and gazing across rice paddy fields, coconut palms and a gentle mist before going downstairs to s breakfast spread preparred by Yudi, the wonderful chef, and then spending the day dipping in the beautiful pool, perhaps opting for an in house spa treatment or venturing out to explore beautiful Bali.
If you are looking for a special, relaxing, gorgeous break, with the utmost comfort we really could not speak highly enough of the beautiful Mandalay Hideaway. We cannot wait to return.
I can safely say, hand on heart - to borrow a famous line "Last night I dreamt I went to Mandalay (sic) again" ... -

My family and I stayed here in Feb 2011. Everyone was exceptionally helpful. We enjoyed our breakfast spread so much we asked the chef to prepare almost all our meals. Especially enjoyed the BBQ after our trip to Tanah Lot. Kudos to the chef!
Thanks, Andy for the wonderful stay. The house's beautiful too. -

My family and I stayed at this place of paradise, for a special birthday celebration. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. The villa itself was amazing along with the private swimming pool, and the friendly helpful staff, especially the cook who really made our time there something to remember. i would highly recommend a stay here, if you want all your needs catered for and want to experience the life of a movie star as that is how special the staff make you feel.

We have just returned from our round the world trip and I have to say Mandalay Hideaway was the absolute highlight. We had the most fantastic time the villa, location, pool and food were way and beyond our expectations. We stayed at the Mandalay in March 2011 for our last 4 days on a wonderful Bali-Trip and it was just the perfect final. The House is so beautiful- feel like home from the first entrance. Every room is furnishing with love and in detail. The complete Staff is very nice and friendly, the food delicious. The Village of Bengkel is original Bali .. we love these much, but also not far to any "busy" places of Bali. All the pictures at the homepage a great but the original is perfect! Coming back? Yes, under all circumstances. Andy- you found a small paradise!

I have been to Bali no less than a dozen times for business and pleasure. I try many places to stay and eat as I still feel I am looking for that perfect place to make my future holidays in Bali. Mandalay may well be it ! Andy the owner and his team ( the staff ) have managed a perfect blend of a luxury environment and seamless service.
Most impressive of the services were the exceptional talents of chef ' Yudi' . The menu is well put together and comprehensive, but if you want something off menu, Yudi will do everything he can to create it , and in our case with amazing results. It got so that we just did not bother to go out most nights as why go into the Seminyak when you can have a 5 star meal professionally presented and prepared in your own villa?
The other great positive is your own 24/7 driver. Many places advertise a driver and this usually means a 8 - 10 hour window + pay fuel or the villa will organise your transport but you pay on top. Not at Mandalay ! Your driver is yours any time of day and night for no additional cost , quite frankly , brilliant. On top of this you get your own concierge who is available to make anything else happen that you need. We had some tailoring and wood work consignments we needed done and Rida was fantastic at getting these done for us.
The service even extended to things beyond our stay at Mandalay ! We stayed at Mandalay 3 for weeks and then moved to other part of the island , Rida was still available to help us with some ongoing jobs.
' Manik ' the driver took me to a traditional dance / theatre night at the local Banjar and he was also a great guy to have around when we were buying fabrics and textiles as we always seemed to get 'local' prices which are a lot cheaper than the ' tourist' ones .
We made great use of the Yoga/wellness room, taking a number of yoga classes pre arranged with andy and his staff. And private pool was a delight with views across the rice paddies and to Mt Batukau, just breathtaking . There is a small gazebo to sit by with the same view. Great with a martini ( Yudi makes a good one ) or nice bottle of wine.
Mandalay is most certainly the place for relaxing , reflecting , and simply indulging. If I had to make one observation , it can unfortunately be quite a trek into seminyak. If you are the type of person that thinks they may like to get out every night, then this may be a down side. As the 'crow flies' its not so far, just a little way past Tanah Lot , but if you know Bali roads ( Big holes , narrow and often congested ) it can take 30 - 45 minutes to get in by car. However, if like us you just plan a few nights out , and lets face it , you have an air conditioned , chauffeured modern luxury vehicle at your disposal 24 hours , then this is not really much of a negative at all. Add to that , you are a long way from all the noise ( sometimes as loud as Manhattan !! ) and madness that is Seminyak and that is very appealing if you are seeking the peacefulness and serenity of the remoter villages. The villa is also just minutes from a lovely beach that rarely has more than a few locals strolling along it. Even better its a pretty good surf break and rarely anybody to share the waves.
We stayed as 2 x adults , 1 child and a baby plus a nanny ( by the way, Mandalay arranged her for us as well ... checked credentials , organised contract etc... she was with us for a month and excellent ) , however I could recommend It for a larger family or 2 small families . The villa and surrounds were very safe for small children.
All the little things that just make it perfect are included ! Wi Fi , lap top , printer , full laundry service at no additional cost , Nespresso coffee ( loved it !! buying one ) +++In all I think Mandalay has perfected villa living in Bali and give andy and his team 2 thumbs up !
Thank you for a dream holiday.

Mandalay was the perfect start to our holiday in Bali! We only stayed for 3 nights of our 8 night stay but it was the best of our accommodation (and we stayed in some very nice places). We travelled with another couple and felt very spoilt as there were so many places to relax. It was just a pity that we had to choose who had the master bedroom! We had preordered a seafood feast as we were arriving late in the day and it was everything that we had hoped for. The second night we went to Echo Beach for dinner and that was a lovely setting and fantastic food too. Mandalay is a fair drive to Legian, Ubud and the airport but once there very relaxing and the driver was great. Andy tells me that they are putting in softer mattresses (they always seem hard in Bali and Thailand for some reason) and remodelling the bathrooms soon which would make the villa just perfect, not that they are shabby now. We loved our stay and we are very fussy - i have already recommend Mandaly to my friends.

We booked The Mandalay Hideaway knowing we just wanted to recharge. It being away from Kuta & Seminyak is exactly what we wanted. Traffic from airport was terrible and no fault of the resort, but it took us 2 hours to reach. We finally arrived at around 7pm and from the moment we set foot into the door, we all fell in love with this place.
Rida took all our passport for check in and briefed us on all the facilities & amenities and left us alone. Breakfast was ordered a day in advance and guest set the time request. Andy has thought of most things for the urban comfort creatures like us and we must say most are spot on.
In our group were 5 adults & 3 children but the property can easily fit another 2 person especially with their comfortable sofa / longer in the living room downstairs. We never felt short of space. The villa is nicely done in modern design infused with Balinese accent. The game console (Play Station) was our lifesaver. My boys will wake up in the morning, play a little game, go for a swim, then breakfast, game again before we head out for some sightseeing and lunch. Maniq the driver is very patient and accommodating as our plans keep changing. He has brought us to really nice places which I didn't get to see during my previous 5 visits but I was let down by the poor weather as it was raining most days & nights but we still managed to enjoy most of the natural beauty that he's shown us.
A local prepaid mobile phone is given to the guest to contact both the concierge and driver 24/7, which I find very thoughtful as guest can be left alone to wonder off in shopping strip and contact the driver only when they are ready to leave (at any other location, and Maniq is very well oriented with the locale).
During our last day of stay, my husband was sad that the stay wasn't longer. This was the first time he has ever wish for a longer break. In fact, he keeps telling everyone to go to Bali and stay at this villa as it is really relaxing. So if you're thinking of some chill time, don't hesitate and just book with andy. He's fast in his email response and you will not be disappointed. -

It was my third time visit to Bali but it is the first time for my family visit to Bali. We stayed at the Mandalay villa for a short holiday (3 days) in December 2010 and this was the right choice!
The Mandalay is a hidden treasure surrounded by rice padies, the perfect place for relaxing holiday. Me and my family member enjoy to have a cup or class of beer at the pool side at the night time.
The villa has a beautiful interior with a bali style of furnitures and service is the key word when staying at the Mandalay.
Various choices of breakfast (pre-select a day advance) served at your dining room. I appreciate been served a cup of tea to start my new journey to explore the bali island!
My family enjoyed a superb balinese style dinner prepared by the cheff at the day of arrived. A free personal driver during your stay, he doing his jod at nice. He can take you to the nicest restaurants or just anywhere you wish. He was always waiting for us so you can arrange your time as your wish.

I will stay there again on our next trip to Bali. Happy journey! -

My wife and I spent 15 days at Mandalay Hideaway for our honeymoon. She is from France, and I am from the us. The experience was exactly what we wanted. Both of us are very seasoned international travelers. We wanted a place far off the beaten path where we could completely unwind and do as little as possible. Mandalay Hideaway was definitely the place.
Highlights:
- Express customs formalities. We were out of the airport within twenty minutes. Denpasar airport is generally a nightmare. This really started things off on the right foot
- Driver. The driver was available any time we wanted, for as long as we wanted, and he drove calmly and safely. It meant we had total freedom of movement while still being able to enjoy being away from the main tourist areas
- Pool. Midnight swims with the sounds of a gamelan orchestra from somewhere in the rice fields below. It was magical
- Our private chef. He could cook anything, and he did
- Massage. My wife loves massage. I thought I hate it. After experiencing the private masseuses that show up at the villa at an hour's notice I am a convert
If you are looking for a vacation where you are catered to and really relax in comfort surrounded by beauty, this is absolutely the place. Highly recommended.

There is a full suite of electronic fun to enjoy (TV, DVD, etc), but no one had the time... we were all having too much fun enjoying the surroundings.

We started our holiday in Indonesia by staying at Mandalay Hideaway for a few days. It was an excellent start to the trip, with the only small downside being that it set a very tough benchmark for other accommodation later in our vacation to live up to!! Really excellent place with lots of owner's touches making it feel highly personal and very well equipped. The owners are really welcoming and very receptive to thoughts and ideas you may have for extra bells and whistles they could add to the place. The staff at the villa could not be more accommodating - from the great chef, to the friendly driver, to the excellent concierge and the highly efficient butlers and cleaner, they all do a great job. We'd certainly look to stay at Mandalay again on a future visit to Bali, and we will certainly be looking to return to Bali soon as it's a great holiday destination!!

We have just came back from an absolutely fabulous stay at the Mandalay Hideaway. The villa is located in a Balinese village with great views over rice fields. The house is lovely, made even more special by its staff. Manik the driver is always helpful and knowlegeable, a real asset to explore the beautiful sights of Bali. He drives safely and is so accomodating with our requests, including 6 o'clock pick ups for diving trips. Manik also introduces us to such delicious local food (suckling pig a must try!) We ate in most nights as the chef is excellent. He shops for fresh seafood and prepare it simply and skilfully. We stayed at the Four Seasons last time but the food at the villa is better! The butler makes us feel very welcomed, providing as much (or as little) service as reqeusted. He serves delicious fruit juices with Indonesian prawn crackers. All the staff is great with our daughter. We really appreciate their warm hospitality, making the villa home away from home for us.
With the lovely swimming pool we spent a lot of time in the villa. However membership at the Canggu Club is included with tennis, spa, swimming etc. There is a great beach 10 minutes drive from the villa - clean volcanic sand and never crowded. There is also an opportunity to experience local culture which is not 'packaged' for tourists - the staff took us to a village celebration one evening and we were delighted by the Barong dance.
Andy the owner is really thoughtful and responsive throughout the process. He offered us an immigration service on arrival which means there is no time wasted at the airport. The food and other services (eg massage) are supplied at cost which makes our stay excellent value for money. We can't wait to go back again! -

This place was friggin awesome! I have traveled all over the world and this is hands down one of the best places I have ever stayed. When we were planning our trip to Bali, my husband and I probably looked at every villa in Bali. We came across Mandalay Hideaway at the very end since it’s fairly new and doesn’t have a ton of reviews on Ta yet. But we were so happy that we did! The house is amazing and super luxurious. In my opinion, it’s located in the best spot on the west coast of Bali. Seminyak, Jimbaran, and Kuta are so crowded and developed that you might as well be in the us or Mexico. This villa is located 5 minutes from the beach in a local artisan village that is real Bali. The beach was totally deserted every time we went. One morning, we wanted to go for a walk through the village so the driver, Manik, took us on a walking tour through all the local spots, including the temple that is located out in the middle of the rice paddies. It was such a cool experience. The villa itself has everything and is unbelievably nice. You can’t always tell when you rent a house if it will actually be as nice as in the pictures but this place totally beat our expectations. We were there for just over a week and it was one of the most relaxing vacations we’ve ever had. The staff were so nice (they will be there to serve you as much or as little as you would like. Since it was our honeymoon, we asked for a lot of privacy, which they completed respected). But you name it, and they will provide it for you. You can order anything you want to eat and they will make it for you at cost. This saved us a ton of money versus eating out all of the time and the food was amazing. Finally, the owner, Andy, was super responsive in our communications and called in while we were there to make sure everything was OK and that we were enjoying ourselves – it was really nice of him. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Amazing!!! This villa was absolutely perfect! My wife and I spent a week here in June during our honeymoon and it was the highlight of our trip to Bali. The villa is gorgeous and the owner, Andy, has thought of everything. When we arrived, he had arranged for a bottle of champagne to be waiting for us as a wedding gift. And one night the power happened to go out for like 10 minutes (which happens sometimes in Bali) and andy came by the next day to apologize and brought us a bottle of wine (which btw, is no cheap gift as wine in Bali is super expensive since they have a 200% alcohol tax). The fact that the villa comes with your own personal chef, concierge, driver and car, and two butlers makes it such a better deal than staying in a hotel. We started off every morning with an in-house massage, followed by a made-to-order breakfast. You just let the staff know what you would like the night before and they will cook you anything (omelets, pancakes, crepes, freshly squeezed tropical fruit juice, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, press pot Balinese coffee, etc.) The staff is so nice and helpful. Rita, our personal concierge, was amazing and totally took care of us. We ended up staying near the villa most days because it was so beautiful and peaceful to just lay by the infinity pool reading a book, looking out over the rice paddies into the jungle. We went out to dinner a few nights at some amazing restaurants (all recommended by Rita) but our favorite meals were the ones that the personal chef cooked us in the villa. The staff would set up candles around the pool and serve us dinner outside in the backyard under the bale (Indonesian gazebo). We would sit there eating amazing Indonesian food cooked specially for us, and listen to all of the crickets and frogs. It was truly an amazing honeymoon and we were sooo happy we stayed at Mandalay Hideaway!

It was our first visit to Bali but it will certainly not be the last one. We stayed at the Mandalay villa for 9 days in april and this was definetely the right choice! The Mandalay is a hidden treasure surrounded by rice padies and jungle, the perfect place for a most relaxing holiday.
The villa has a lot to offer, the beautiful interior with carefully chosen furnitures makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. Service is the key word when staying at the Mandalay. Breakfast of your choice is served at your favorite terras in the garden or in the dining room. I can higly recommend the freshly baked banana pancakes!
The staff will surprise you with refreshing fresh fruit juices, cookies and snacks at the pool side. On-site lunch or dinner is available on demand and is absolutely recommended. We enjoyed a superb balinese style dinner prepared by the staff. One of the big assets is the fact that you get your own personal driver during your stay. He can take you to the nicest restaurants, quiet beaches, or just anywhere you wish. He was always waiting for us so you could hop back in the car whenever you wanted and move on to your next point of interest. This is actually very interesting for furniture and home decoration lovers as well as there are shops all over in Bali and this allows you to check out places in totally different locations.
Same day laundry service is also very convenient, you do not need to carry a lot of clothes which leaves more space in your suitcase to take home all of your shopping items :-). The concierge can help you find what you are looking for. When staying at the Mandalay, you get complimentary access to the Canggu Club where you can go and work out, play tennis, swim, etc..
Free wifi is avaialble to stay in touch with the home front.
We felt like king and queen while staying at the Mandalay and no doubt we will stay there again on our next trip to Bali. -

We stayed in Mandalay Hideaway for two weeks and highly recommend it.
The villa is beautifully designed and furnished, very well equipped (great
attention to detail), and has an incredible view over tropical forest, rice
paddies and mountains – in the pool it’s like you’re suspended in the tree
tops overlooking it! The service was great too with friendly staff who were
always ready to please. The concierge - a first for us - was in fact really
useful, suggesting places to visit off the beaten track, organising a romantic
dinner for us and even helping us to sort out flights to Java. The food and
in-villa services (especially the massages) were very good and also very
reasonably priced. Given this and the fact that a car and driver are included
in the rate, we felt we got really good value for money.
Despite our pre-trip concerns about being outside the main Kuta-Legian-
Seminyak tourist area, we actually found that the location was perfect,
allowing us to enjoy the “real Bali” (what we came for at the end of the day),
while still dining out in Seminyak in the evening and taking trips to Ubud
and the mountains in the day. A beautiful untouched beach a few minutes
from the villa was also perfect for sunset walks. All in all, we really had a
great stay at Mandalay!

We spent over a week at Mandalay Hideaway and it was the most amazing experience. The villa is discretely located and gives you a little piece of paradise from the moment you step through the door: From the spacious and well decorated interior to the swimming pool with breathtaking view of the jungle and mountains; it's all there. To top it off, the staff offers the perfect blend of Balinese friendliness and hospitality with attention to detail and a genuine desire to make your stay unforgettable. The villa is also perfectly located as a starting point for visiting the many sights Bali offers: your driver can take you to the mountains for a breathtaking view, bring you to the beach for a day of sun and relaxing or show you the famous town of Ubud. And Seminyak is in easy reach for shopping or dinner. And there's much, much more. The hardest part for us was choosing which to do first but we now have incredible memories to take home with us.
Mandalay Hideaway is a breath of fresh air in the often stale and franchised world of holiday destinations. Saying we highly recommend it is the understatement of the year. You will not be disappointed!
