Try to imagine a truly beautiful secluded Balinese villa laid out on three sides around a sublime infinity pool, overlooking a jungle covered valley. Then throw into this fantasy, 6 of the sweetest and most attentive locals you could ever meet, and you may get close to the reality that is Villa Dukah!
Andrew and Kadek have created a truly remarkable holiday destination with the highest level of attention to detail in every respect. Gede (the villa manager) and his team offer an attentive but unobtrusive service and a fabulous range of cuisine.
One of the many highlights for any visitor is the tennis court, approached via steps that lead down into the valley and which is surrounded by the sights and sounds of the jungle, with the ever-attentive Eddy acting as unstinting ball boy and towel monitor!
We enjoyed 11 nights of heaven and would return at the drop of a hat...

      A little piece of paradise!

Left on 05/26/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Villa Dukuh is definitely somewhere we would go back to in a heartbeat! It suited exactly what we were after - away from tourist areas, quiet, spacious for a big group, kid friendly, amongst Balinese villages and easy to get to. The villa itself is stunning, it didn't take long for us to relax and enjoy everything it had to offer.

The staff were really friendly and always helpful, our kids spent a lot of time with them which was great! The rooms are large and always clean and comfortable. The villa has everything you need with plenty of space so that you can have time to yourself or share the pool with others. Our kids were never bored!

The all day menu provided was delicious with a good variety of Balinese as well as western dishes. The two cooks were really happy to organise personalised Balinese requests providing an even better culinary experience.

The pool, quietness, and staff make this place an absolute paradise!

The staff were fabulous, really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We were a group of six celebrating our daughters 21st and the staff went out of their way to make it special for her and all of us. The food was great and really diverse for every taste. We all enjoyed lounging around the villa playing games and using all the facilities available. Many thanks to Gede and the staff, especially Nopa who loved joining in our games and worked so hard for the rest of the time. The surrounding village was perfect for the sort of Bali experience we were looking for, so quiet and friendly. All in all a great holiday.

Blissful Escape Into Five Star Luxuary

Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013

This was my second visit to the villa and it was just as lovely as the first time. We were met at the airport by the smiling staff and arrived at the house to a traditional Balinese dinner.
The villa itself is five star. The rooms are huge and well appointed with large bathrooms. The infinity pool was gorgeous. There is plenty of room to sit/lie and relax or you can play tennis. The staff attend to your every need but at the same time you wouldn't know that they were there.
There are plenty of local attractions close by and beach's are only 15 mins away.
The local village is great for a morning walk and to interact with the locals, you might not understand Balinese but everyone welcomes you with a smile and a hearty 'hello'.
I definitely recommend a stay at Villa Dukuh you won't regret it.

Left on 03/01/2013 for a stay in February 2013

I am lucky to say that this was my third visit to Villa Dukah and again I was not disappointed. The staff are all locals from the village that Villa Dukah is located in and are all wonderful people and so friendly and helpful. The villa is total luxury which leaves you with nothing to think about other than what to order for your next meal or drink! The rooms and very spacious and very well appointed. Bathrooms are beautiful and very large including a huge bath and shower area. The location is so peaceful but only a short drive to many attractions of Bali. The pool is outstanding.
I loved the meals we could choose from the the fact that they are made fresh just before serving. The flavours of the dishes are amazing.
Again, thoroughly enjoyed my stay, am definitely returning and can highly recommend Villa Dukah to everyone.
Thank you andrew and all your staff for another wonderful relaxing time at the villa!

My 3 girlfriends and I had a wonderful 3 day stay at Villa Dukah, We arrived late at night and were welcomed by friendly staff and a delicious home cooked meal. We were then shown to our villas which were beautiful. Very spacious and clean. The following morning after being served a yummy breakfast we enjoyed relaxing in the the infinity pool whilst admiring the fantastic views. Each day we were spoilt with meals cooked with fresh local produce. All our meals were very tasty and the service was awesome. The staff at Villa Dukah did a wonderful job looking after us. They were very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. When staying at the villa I recommend you take a morning walk through the local village. We did and had an enjoyable time meeting the locals. We even took part in a local ceremony and loved it. Overall our stay at Villa Dukah was extremely relaxing, totally pampering (being waited on hand and foot) and thoroughly enjoyable. The property is very clean and tidy and well maintained.

Perfect for a quiet, friendly family break

Left on 02/03/2013 for a stay in January 2013

We stayed at Villa Dukuh with my a large family group, including my young daughter and elderly mother. The villa itself and especially the friendly, discreet and professional service we received from the staff made for a perfect holiday.

The villa's a bit far from most places so it helps if you're either happy to not go very far or accept longish drives. The sense of isolation though adds a lot to its charm, and you certainly won't want for anything while you're there.

I can't speak highly enough of the service we received at Villa Dukuh. It was a very special holiday for all of us.

Extraordinary pampering far from Bali's madding crowds...

Left on 02/03/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This was our third trip to Bali and by far the most memorable, thanks to the wonderful team at Villa Dukuh. Tucked away in a village untouched by mass tourism, this is a chance to meet the locals and experience the 'real' Bali of rice paddies and daily life. Villa Dukuh itself is a hidden enclave of luxury and order. All six staff are wonderfully kind and will look after your every need with a charming smile. From the silver pot of coffee on waking, to delicious gourmet breakfasts, lunches and dinners...Nik is a marvel in the kitchen. She even held a cooking lesson to show us how to make satays the traditional Balinese way. Guests only pay for the cost of ingredients which makes it very good value to eat meals at the Villa. Seminyak is about half an hour away if you feel the need to leave the poolside for some shopping. Gede - the manager - is always happy to drive and act as tour guide for other sights in Bali. A tennis court, pool table, motorbikes and well-stocked DVD library meant the kids and husband were never bored. Choose Villa Dukuh if you are a family - or a group of friends - looking for a truly relaxing way to re-charge your batteries. If you would prefer to spend your holiday bartering for cheap sunglasses and partying the night away, then this probably isn't the place for you!

My sister, niece and I had a girls week at Villa Dukuh recently. As soon as we saw the photos online we knew we wanted to stay there. Andrew was extremely prompt with his email replies and very happy to answer all our questions. He established a wonderful rapport with us before we had even started our holiday, which was really nice. The photos were perfect representations of the villa, so when we walked through those beautiful front doors, it was everything we were expecting. It is a stunning location, and the main living villa, the bedrooms and ensuites are just beautiful. Everything about Villa Dukuh is luxurious and designed to give you a relaxing, stress free stay. The staff were exceptional. Gede, the manager and driver, was fascinating to spend time with as he can tell you so much about the area, the history and the landmarks of Bali. I would stay at Villa Dukuh anytime! The V.I.P immigration is well worth considering.

A jaw-droppingly beautiful villa away from the hustle and bustle

Left on 07/08/2012 for a stay in June 2012

From the moment we walked through the doors of Villa Dukuh, tired after a long international flight, we knew we'd made the right decision.
The villa and grounds are incredibly beautiful.
      - the infinity pool is massive, and the water is the perfect temperature
      - each bedroom is huge and stylish and so are the ensuite bathrooms
      - the living area is also huge. It's open plan, with a great full-size pool table and has a wonderful view across the pool to the valley beyond
      - the tennis court is a wonderful feature. Being able to pop down at any time for a hit is a great luxury. The steps back up are hard work though but luckily you can jump straight into the pool to cool down.
      - there are lots of places to kick back and relax. My favourite spot is the day bed next to the pool.

All the staff are wonderful. Incredibly friendly yet un-obtrusive.
The food was lovely too - one recommendation would be to have more items on the menu. We were there for a week and it would have been nice to have a larger choice.

The villa is in a very quiet area of Bali and took about half an hour to get to the restaurants and bars of Seminyak but someone was always available to drive us when we wanted to go (although I did feel a bit guilty having dinner knowing someone was waiting for me outside - they never seemed to mind though).

Overall, this is the perfect villa for a relaxing Bali holiday with a group of friends or family. I loved it.

Stunning villa with great amenities and friendly, helpful staff

Left on 07/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012

My sister, daughter and I spent a fantastic week at the Villa Dukuh recently and we are already planning another stay in the future. The villa is gorgeous and exactly as represented by the photos. It is beautifully decorated and has everything you could want in a dream holiday accommodation. While we were there we enjoyed the pool, played billiards, watched movies from the supplied collection and ate some great meals prepared by the staff. Gede, the manager of the villa drove us whenever we wanted to go sightseeing and is a wealth of information about the local culture. The staff are from the local village and they are friendly and helpful. The villa is about an hour from Ubud and and about half an hour north of Seminyak in a very quiet and serene location. If you are looking for somewhere in the middle of the shopping and nightlife districts of Bali then this is not the place for you, but if you want somewhere to relax and unwind in safe and luxurious surroundings then you can't go wrong with Villa Dukuh.

We are a family of five and stayed with friends for one week. The photo's of the villa painted a picture of paradise and it absolutely was. The villa provided everything we needed and the staff were fantastic. The meals cooked at the villa were high class restaurant standard and arrived on time throughout our stay. The team were flexible enough to meet the demands of our children as well. We all relaxed really quickly and even the kids chilled out and were happy to just chill. The tennis court was peaceful and we enjoyed some great games, though the treck back up the steps is tiring after a game. The villa is in a remote village and all you could hear were chickens, the occasional dog bark and birds. That said, only 30 minutes to Semniyak if you want to do more.

My husband loves best the 5 steps bedroom to swimming pool ritual.

We adore the food. The book collection was great.

One thing we would love to see is more reading lamps in the living room/main house. The steps from the main house leading to the villas could be tricky to handle as they become slippery during a downpour.

Left on 11/04/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed at Villa Dukuh in late sept/early oct with friends and family. The Villa is just as beautiful as it looks and the staff are so lovely and friendly and helpful; we were truly spoilt.
We had a 3 year old and an 8month baby with us - both children were overwhelmed with the attention they received and our baby returned in the 90th percentile for his weight having had the undivided attention of his Balinese nanny and all staff - when they could get a turn. we barely saw him and he learnt to wave and say hi as we wandered past or splashed about in the pool. I was a little concerned about safety for the toddler but it was never a concern.
The tennis court was amazing and those views! our first morning my toddler and i saw a monkey eating the offerings barely 3 feet from us!
It was such a wonderful place and it has been the most luxurious and beautiful my husband and I have ever stayed. Writing this review makes me remember the coconut crusted calamari...yum!

We arrived in Bali, having booked Villa Dukuh without any reference or detailed search. We needed a rest and wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta and Seminyek. We we picked up at the airport and the adventure began. 35 mins later we arrived at the Villa to be met by the 6 staff that were to look after us for the week. We were gobsmacked by the Villa and the ambiance and the quality of the facility - simple, stylish and in the most divine surrounds overlooking a river gorge. The rooms were fabulous and the dining was outstanding with all our specific requirements delivered in style. We were able to have a driver provided by the Villa take us on tours or into wherever we wanted to visit in Bali, as part of the service. The rooms don't have TV or Wi Fi, which some of would have liked, however a wireless internet stick can be provided by the Villa upon request. Nothing is too much for the staff and the manager Kadek who was fabulous.
We have recommended the Villa to friends who are going next month. We recommend the Villa to you if you want a quiet, peaceful, serene and relaxing holiday in a magnificent environment with brilliant friendly service. The great part about the Villa is that if you book it, you have the villa exclusively - great.

We are grateful for the experience and would return there again if we go to Bali.

Being in the middle of a small village allowed us to experience true Balinese culture while being close enough to beaches, shops & restaurants that you could do as much or as little as possible.

The rooms & facililties are fabulous & the villa staff very warm & friendly. This is a great place for a family or adults only holiday.

Gede & his staff entertained & loved my children as though they were their own. My eldest would accompany the girls on their twice daily offerings. She also visited their homes & attended a family/ temple celebration.

Our driver was extremely kind, careful & knowledgeable. He too was extremely good with the kids making car trips & sightseeing much easier. (children's car seats are available)

The food was delicious & children were catered for very well.

If you are considering this property & you have a young family be sure to contact the owner as you will be reassured that they have everything you could possibly need.

The best time in Bali - ever

Left on 04/11/2011 for a stay in July 2010

Our family has been travelling to Bali on and off over the last twenty years (and a number of other countries). This is by far the standout of all the places we have stayed if you want to get away from it all.

Walks through the village gave me a rich experience of how life really works in the villages - including many locals who were prepared to stop and talk to me.

Access to local beaches were only a 10-15 minute ride/drive.

The in-house cooking was fantastic and to be able to go with the staff to purchase the food where the locals shop was great experience which I am looking forward to doing again. Yes we are back there this July.

Our last holiday greatly enriched our lives and we have fallen in love with the village and its people. We still stay down in Legian or Seminyak for few days for the hustle and bustle and to catch up with friends - then we retreat to the village for absolute relaxation.

We now sponsor a family there and encourage everyone who stays to bring some educational supplies to donate to the local school.

I felt very comfortable and relaxed in my room and the main house. The amenities were far beyond my expectations. It was a great get-away from my busy life and a very relaxing trip. Bali is a place that you have to visit at one point in your life and this is a great place to stay during your visit. I have recommended and will recommend Villa Dukuh to my friends and family.

      Amazing!

Left on 04/11/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Wow. I stayed here with a few friends in January, and was speechless for about ten minutes upon our arrival. Meanwhile, my friends were gasping. The villa is beautifully situated, with stunning views, and is superbly maintained. The staff is smiley and accommodating but also gave us space. I spent most of my time reading and floating in the infinity pool, two of my friends spent their afternoons shooting pool and playing Scrabble in the games room, and the last loved the bed so much that she refused to go elsewhere. Were it not for the pool, I'd have spent all my time in the bathroom; it's certainly the most spacious and calming bathroom I've ever encountered.

We shall come again. Close to hip Seminyak and Canggu but no traffic jam and noise. Pool to swim and table to play. Good to relax but easy to go out. Best of both worlds regarding that part of Bali! Well done.

A unique hideout to relax and enjoy local culture

Left on 04/09/2011 for a stay in July 2010

I stayed here together with my wife before leaving Indonesia after a year and returning to Hong Kong. The villa is located away from the tourist madness and offers a nice haven of tranquility and opportunity to see what goes on in Real Bali.

Spacious and comfortable rooms, a nice pool, a brilliant pool and top service are good ingredients for a nice stay.

The team cooks whatever you want, whenever you want it and can help you with a whole range of services to make your stay comfortable. The location is superb, beside a small river, lots of green, quiet and in the evening you can enjoy some of the music locals are playing in the surrounding village.

Key tourist areas are within easy reach, and the team is very helpful in making travel arrangements for you. Whether this is renting a motorbike or arranging a car with driver.

By now the tennis court should be ready, providing a good opportunity for exercise in the shade beside the river.

We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and left completely relaxed after one week. And...already planning the next trip!

Hidden away between local villages and Bali's natural surroundings, Villa Dukuh is a quiet and serene place that's perfect for relaxation and meditation.
I was only there for the day but from what i could see, the rooms were spacious and inviting, metres away from an infinity pool that overlooks a lush ravine.
As for the owners, they were absolutely lovely and only too happy to help.
In short, Villa Dukuh screams (just quietly!) "ideal getaway."

      Very Special Villa

Left on 04/07/2011 for a stay in January 2011

Villa Dukuh is a very special villa. Andrew Thornley, his wife and two children are lovely people when they were away, with three of my closest friends who were visiting Bali for the first time. We could not have had a more relaxing time. The view of the cliff across the valley is breathtaking and the large bathrooms are nothing less than luxury. We spent most of our time enjoying long meals together, outside swimming or lying in lounge chairs while chatting, playing board games, reading or falling asleep to the sound of the nature around us.

The villa is located deep inside a traditional village which must have been what Bali looked like before major tourism development was introduced to the island. You will see elaborate Balinese temples in front of each house, banyan trees that are the size of houses, rice fields, bare breasted older women coming back from a bath in the stream and villagers greeting each other in the main road.

They have a very special staff, who are all residents of the nearby villages and have worked for the villa since its inception. They are elegant, professional and friendly people. Gede speaks very good English and ensured we had a car if we wanted to go out, took our orders for our next meal, and met us just outside the village to show us the way to the villa. Converse to my experience at some Indonesian restaurants, they served us all at the same time, served us in a timely manner, served the right person the right meal and were around if we needed anything.

This is a truly unforgettable place to go with people that you enjoy and to relax.

      Total indulgence and relaxation

If you are after somewhere to totally forget about the rest of the world - Villa Dukuh is for you. Set amongst a beautiful peaceful location on top of a hill - total seclusion is what you get - but still only a 40 minute drive to the hussle and bussle of Kuta/Legian region if you wish to go. The facilities are world class and staff so attentive but also very discreet. Everything has been finished to perfection. The pool is spotless and the infinity edge is spectacular. The menu offered is superb and a great variety. I can highly recommend a visit to this fantastic villa. Once you have been once - you will want to go back - we are!
