I've travelled to Bali many times over past seven years and rented villas with my young family. Seseh Serasi was perfect. We loved being close to the local village and the beach (just 5 mins walk away). My husband was a short ride from his favourite break at Echo Beach. If we wanted to tap into the Seminyak dining scene, it was just a twenty minute drive away - best of both worlds.
The lush garden is beautifully maintained and the furnishings are uber stylish, yet comfortable. This place is all about substance, perfectly balancing indoor/outdoor living. We feasted on delicious local fare made by the two resident cooks who delivered the spice kick we requested. I'm going back there next time we all head to Bali. -

We first stayed at Seseh Serasi 9 years ago when it was being run by the then owners Bridget and Glen. Hands down it was the best holiday we had ever experienced, fantastic villa, wonderful location, amazing staff, wonderful support from Bridget who was always happy to provide a tip and support and a quiet location with no other (obvious) tourists. Total magic. We remember the time fondly.
Nine years later, the good news is, the magic has not gone. But things have changed.
The villa itself is charming but possibly a little dated, in recent years there have been a proliferation of villas and standards have crept up. Seseh has three rooms but two rooms share a bathroom, in itself that is a major difference, potentially four people sharing a bathroom? Certainly not the standard in neighbouring villas.
Maintenance has slipped, the thatch roofing has been patched, tiles are falling off, doors squeak badly, some things lilt and generally the details are being let go...Wifi is definitely not high speed.
It turns out that the villa is now being managed by an agency. Initial contact is efficient but not friendly and every opportunity to make money on extras is now being exploited. For example, the bikes mentioned by the last reviewer now are a cost extra, laundry costs are now charged for, ( and go to the agency not the staff), 20% loading on grocery costs and in between the time we booked ( Feb 2012) and arrived ( Oct 2012) the internet is now no longer included, and the cost of the driver is also an additional extra along with additional costs for an internet over 100MB...almost all these costs go to the agency not the staff...
On the plus side, the villa really is a little oasis, so wonderful to get back to, and the absolutely amazing. Nyoman the cook makes amazing food without any fuss, seriously some of the best we have had...Without batting an eyelid she prepared a dinner party for 12, ( family were staying in a neighbouring villa) and it was just wonderful...Made and Koman look after you for breakfast and are also just fantastic to be around...they are what makes this place wonderful...
Seseh Serasi is your own little paradise, and it is definately worth a visit, with the right management it could be even better. It's clear the agency are their to make their cut and for the current owners who may not want to generate revenue that may suit fine, but if revenue generation is a goal and Seseh Serasi is to compete with the swanky villas in the same village then an investment in developing the staff and working on all the personal extras ( rather than taking them away) is essential.
We will go back to Seseh next year we want to stay at Serasi, but with the direction things are going in, we are not convinced...
Finally, this review is probably not reflective of my partner or friends views who also stayed and absolutely loved it...but I suppose we are all entitled to an opinion? -

A welcome by the staff made us feel that we were to be beautifully looked after during our stay. Well situated out of the hustle and bustle of the key tourists attractions on the west coast, nestled in the country surrounded by rice paddies and fisherfolk.
Make use of the bikes and ride through the country and absorb the culture of Bali. Be always surprised by the colourful celebrations and cheerful demeaner of the Ballinese.
