This was a great rental for us. We love the south end of Cannon Beach, and the location of this house was ideal for us. It wasn't right on the beach, but might as well have been. With an empty lot seperating it from the ocean, it was great. Very close to the park and I could watch the kids play from the deck. Close to Mo's, which is our favorite restaurant. We got married at Ecola State park during our stay, and the downstairs set up was perfect for our extended family to stay. Lots of room to have people gather afterwards and celebrate.
I was a little disappointed that the front living room fireplace was not working, but sounded like they were in the process of ordering a part for it. A new vacuum cleaner would be a great addition too!
Overall, we. Very much enjoyed our stay, and the company we rented thru was fantastic.
Perfect for large groups!

We had our annual friends and family trip to Cannon Beach and called Star Gazer home for a long weekend. There were 11 adults total. 4 couples & 3 extra people. Each couple got a room & the singles got the couch pullout, & 2 airbeds (there are 2 aerobeds provided you just have to set it up) in the back family room. The kitchen is well stocked with all the amenities. The bathrooms had ample towels! We played boardgames(lots provided in the home) on the dinner table and used the grill for steak night. We have no complaints.Access to beach was just across the street.Right around the corner from a pub as well. The backyard was fenced but probably only good for dogs 20lbs and over.Only pointers we would suggest other guests or for the property management:
1)Not enough extra blankets were provided for the extra airbeds. Lucky some of the rooms had an extra blanket for the bed so we just gave those to those sleeping in the pull-out and airbeds. So most of us had to bundle up at night since there was only one blanket and they aren't the thickest. Lots of pillows though but bring your own pillow case. It had the same issue with the blankets.
2)Check the propane tank for the grill right when you arrive. Lucky we did because it was actually empty. We called the property management and it was replaced right away.
3)The kitchen could use a proper pair of scissors and extra steak knives. I read in another review that this was a problem and brought our own. Lucky. We would have had 11 people sharing a steak knife.
4)Bring a dog gate if you want to keep your pet/kids away from the stairs.
5)This house has no bathtub and the shower heads in the 2 standup bathrooms are not retractable. Lucky my dog was only about 20-lbs so he actually fit in the kitchen sink.
6)Main space is upstairs so be prepared to bring all your supplies up and down stairs.
Otherwise the house is great and we all had fun cooking, playing games and walking back and forth from the beach. Highly recommended! Read more

We have contacted the owner regarding the steak knives. Unfortunately those types of items seem to disappear through the summer months. We have also noted regarding the blankets and weren't aware of this until Leah brought it to our attention... thank you! Normally the home will have an outdoor hose for the doggie wash off, however, since Leah arrival was in late fall, the hoses had been removed and put away for winter.
Glad you and the friends had a wonderful time and great to see you booked again!
Relaxing Family Time In Comfortable Setting
Left on 09/23/2012 for a stay in August 2012 | Jeannie
We have done a summer week 4 out of the last 5 years at Stargazer and would happily go again next year if family schedules allow. The rental agency is always great. The house has an unusual floor plan with an almost separate apartment downstairs. This has worked well for our son and family with 2 young children. There are plenty of dishes, cups, wine glasses, mixing/serving bowls etc. A large variety of utensils and pots and pans. Almost too much, but I mainly bring my own favorites knowing what I don't have will be there in some shape or form. The deck is wonderful. Only real drawback is the fenced yard really doesn't keep in a smaller dog (25lbs or less) if they choose to roam. We are aware of the problem, however, so just bring a baby gate for the stairs that lead down to the yard and keep the dog up unless supervised. The fence is fine for children though you probably would spend most of your time inside, on the deck or on the beach with kids. The deck has a gate that leads to the stairs and street so children and dogs are safe from wandering off that way. The owners have put money back in to the house in the years we have been coming and the new fridge this year was great! There was a little issue with the freezer door not staying closed but since the fridge was new I am sure that problem got resolved soon. I just wish all renters would treat the homes they rent the same way as they would their own. It would benefit us all, renters and owners alike.

Wonderful vacation home for a family with pets

This vacation home is ideal for a family of 12 - my daughter has 4 children ages 2,4 6, and 10. The younger children and parents stayed in the downstairs unit - were able to take a nap and go to bed early while the rest of us enjoyed the upstairs. Close to the beach - allows my dog to join me - the kitchen facility is wonderful - with such a large family, cooking in was important. Close to the beach and view is perfect as is the large deck. We look forward to our stay next year.

We had 9 adults staying for a week and it was the perfect size. We enjoyed the common living space and kitchen but there were bedrooms and other places to enjoy quiet alone time when needed. About mid-week we needed more paper towels and toilet paper, I called the Cbvr office and it was delivered within the hour...very nice! There are a lot of stairs so anyone who has trouble managing them should look for another place. The access to the beach is great!

House had been up-dated with new carpeting, couches, flat-screen TVs, etc. Very comfortable and lots of storage. Well equiped kitchen. Use of the garage is great for bike storage. Unfortunately, there is no bathtub for little ones, and the barbeque should have been replaced - almost unfunctionable. Read more

This was our 2nd time here. Will go a 3rd if commitments allow. Description on website sums it up pretty well. Not sure what they meant about covered glassed-in area?, but living room has all windows across the front and is great. Fenced yard works well for for kids, but fence breaks down in places. Shrubbery hides the breaks from kids, but not necessarily little, curious dogs. Upper deck has two sets of stairs, one leading to front of house and street and has handy gate. The stairs to the fenced backyard is not gated (baby gate works though) If you have a toddler you might want to keep in mind the 2nd set of stairs. This is not a complaint, just a warning. The charcoal barbecue has been upgraded to a large gas BBQ since the write up was done. The house has a unique setup, but works wonderfully. Plenty of room to be together and yet can get some quiet and/or privacy downstairs. Handy if you have napping children, etc. And, of course, works as well if you don't. I hope to go back!

My husband, 17 year-old daughter and I spent a week with my 3 grown children, their spouses and my 2 grandsons (ages 3 and 6) at this wonderful beach home. We had plenty of space, both indoors and out, for everyone no matter the age. With 3 TVs and WiFi, there were no squabbles about entertainment. We spent a lot of time on the beach since it was just across the street. We even had a fire and roasted marshmallows one night. The house was well equipped for cooking for this large group and is situated close to markets and shopping. We would love to come back again!

We stayed at the Stargazer this past July 2010 and had a fabulous time. With the proximity to the Tolovanna Inn, we were able to host dinners and barbeques for our family reunion at the Stargazer - and host 2 families as well. Other family members stayed at the Tolovanna Inn and would walk over to join us for beach excursions or dinners / lunches at Mo's. The location of the Stargazer so close to the beach, Haystack Rock, Tolovanna Inn, and Mo's is perfect for a large gathering we though.
As far as the Stargazer itself, there are 4 nice bedrooms and 3 separate "living areas". The upstairs living area adjoins to the kitchen and is also the main eating area. It's a very nice spot to gather, cook, eat and visit. The wrap-around deck with great views of the ocean is another wonderful place to hang-out.

We've had 10+ years of Johnson Family Reunions in the Cannon Beach area. This is the third time we have used the Star Gazer...we need a house with as many bedrooms and bathrooms as possible since all 5 couples are 75+ years old. This house works well except for the two bathrooms...that takes a bit of planning!! Otherwise, the multiple "gathering" areas are perfect for all of the conversations that need to occur. Several improvements have been made since we last rented in 2004 which we appreciated. We will likely use this again. Access to the beach, the bakery and coffee shop, the house Wi-Fi, good parking for multiple cars, and closeness to Mo's are great advantages for us of this house. If it had stopped raining, we would have loved the great deck also!!! :-)

My family, consisting of 12 people including myself, spent the Memorial Day Weekend at the Star Gazer. The house is huge and very conveniently layed out. The Star Gazer is right across the street from the beach. More surprisingly, Haystack Rock is a short walk on the beach from Star Gazer. The kitchen is loaded with all the amentities you could ever need. The house was very clean and well organized. Our family had a great time at the Star Gazer and will definitely be back next year.

This is a wonderful place close to the ocean and Tolovana - you have a decent view and can hear the ocean. There is a wonderful deck which would be great to bbq on during nice days. There is a family room with a huge tv and games, and there are 3 gas fireplaces that were incredibly cozy during the rainy days.
Fabulous ocean view
Left on 12/30/2009 for a stay in December 2009 | Richard Wilson
Stargazer is an older, well-maintained home. It was perfect for two families as each had their own living area. The best features are the view and easy access to Cannon Beach -- it is literally across the street. Until someone builds on the vacant lot, you have unobstructed views from both levels of the house and the wrap-around deck.
We are willing to forgo bathtubs (showers are small and functional) and finished baseboards (everything was clean) for proximity to the beach.
Location Great, House Had a Few Issues
Left on 12/20/2009 for a stay in November 2009 | Maggie
The house was roomy and had a terrific view and we loved the ability to close off different sections with doors. It was wonderful to be so close to the ocean and just a block away from Waves of Grain coffee shop. It was also wonderful to be able to have our five dogs with us. The house itself had a few issues: very musty and mildewy smell downstairs and upstairs not very clean, especially the carpets. The oven worked great but several of the gas burners need some attention (which I notified the rental company about).
Near the beach
Left on 08/16/2009 for a stay in June 2009 | Star Gazing
The service was good. On the first day the coffee pot was not working. I immediately called the office, and it just a few minutes the property manager was at our door. The problem was quickly settled. there were plenty of blankets and towels, dishes, glasses, pans, etc., even sand buckets and jackets. We also used a brank spanking new barbecue grill that my son the griller loved. One half block to the beach. One block to the Tolovana Park where my grandson had a ball. Close to Mo's, my youngest son's favorite Cannon Beach restaurant.
Great place to fly a kite. Next time, however, I will try to rent this management's house overlooking the beach.
Overall, our stay was great. We had plenty of beds, pillows, blankets, huge TV's, videos and games. Great cabin. We also enjoyed the huge deck. Great for hot chocolate at night looking at the stars.

Wonderful location for kids and others. Walking to local coffee shop, kids plaing in the playground down the street, etc. The house itself is needs updating. Great Location, but needs basic repairs

The home is in a great location, but needs basic repairs.
The huge selling point to the home was that it allowed two small dogs. But, the home is not set up for dogs??? Fence is broken so they could get out very easily...
Basic things need to be updated and replaced. We had asked for a list of items in the kitchen. We were told, "Anything our heart desired!" But in reality the kitchen is minimally furnished with "yard sell" mismatched items made of very low quality. Towel racks fell off the walls. Hide-a-beds would not go back in to the couch. Branch was broken in the tree and when a man came to cut it down, he brought NO SAW? Therefore he borrowed our sheetrock saw??? Then said, the branch wasn't going anywhere, it didn't need to be cut. and then left the branch in the yard. Not professional.
It's just a classic beach house in a nice location!

This home has a perfect location in Cannon Beach, it is located far enough away from the popular Cannon Beach shops to be peaceful, but close to a small convenience store, bakery, pub, and a city park. The home has easy beach access, and fit our 3 family group comfortably. We hope to return to the Stargazer....

The home was very clean. It had everything we could need, with the exception of food of course. I thought the furniture was out dated. The view from the deck was beautiful. We did not have a garbage can though. Overall we hope to visit again.
Worked for us!

The house is two levels with separate living quarters, which was unexpected. The family room was great, but electronics were outdated. The view was wonderful and the deck was nice. The fence for the dogs was not up to par. Our dogs made it through the knocked down and broken fence. Other than that, you have the beach in site and the house is big to accommodate a large group of people.

Star Gazer is a great house. I've stayed there three times. The view is fantastic -- from both decks and the living room. I love the downstairs area, two nice bedrooms, a bath. little kitchen area and a living room. A great place to get away a little and a place for the kids to watch a little TV and have their own area. The upstairs kitchen is perfect -- I spend a lot of time in there cooking up all that great Oregon food. A big dining/family area to eat in and hang around in. The living room is large with the view to die for. We saw the best green flash from there two years ago. I think one of the best things about the place is the great people at Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals. They're the best. I highly recommend Star Gazer and Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals. I'll be back.

We rented this beautiful house which provided plenty of bedrooms for privacy and lovely common space to play games and enjoy eachother's company. The home is well equipped with a nice homey feel. We enjoyed looking out at the beautiful Oregon coast and taking pictures of the sunset from the decks. A wonderful stay - we highly recommend this property!

family get together. Grandparents, grandchildren, children and friends
were gathered together for a respite after the wedding of our
daughter. Family and friends came from Jordan, Michigan, Alabama
and Montana. The home was perfect. All the amenities and only a hop
skip and jump from the beach. Grilling on the deck offered the
perfect view for everyone. We could not have asked for a better home
or a better rental company. Both exceeded our expectations. Thank
