A terrace apartment with garden furniture running the full width of the apartment with french doors opening onto the spectacular view across the valley to the mountains beyond. Comfort is the by-word; high quality twin beds, duvets, cotton sheets, soft towels with central heating throughout but cool in summer. Fully equipped kitchen, high pressure shower, heated towel-rails etc. This part of the Liebana Valley remains unspoilt with first rate walking, climbing, bird-watching and wild flowers. The coast with its white sandy beaches is only an hour away through the dramatic Hermida Gorge.

Basieda is a remote hamlet built into the mountainside 15km from Potes in the Picos de Europa. The Picos de Europa are the most impressive part of the Cordillera de Cantabrica mountain range of the North of Spain. Basieda can be reached by ferry to Santander or Bilbao, by flights to Bilbao, Santander or Madrid or by road through France.
The Picos de Europa mountains are a paradise for walking and climbing with magnificent flora and fauna.

We had a fantastic week at Olmaris. Appartment was tasteful and spacious for two. Beautiful sitting out area with superb mountain views up the valley. Lovely walks from the doorstep. Short drives to other mountain walks. Conveniently situated for shopping and eating out.Flora exceptional. Just a great place to stay for nature lovers and walkers.

We stayed at the Olmares apartments as part of our Honeymoon and it provided the perfect setting to both rest and recuperate post the fervour of the previous few weeks.
The apartments were beautifully finished, containing all mod cons and yet still retaining the original character and feel of the old farm dwellings they used to be. The views from the balcony were spectacular and it's a shame that they don't get the sun into the evenings, however breakfast with the sun rising over the hills opposite almost made up for this!
Richard and Suzanne were the perfect hosts, always available when you needed to ask a question or to offer advice, but equally happy to leave you to your own devices.
True, it is a little way from any restaurants so someone will have to drive - I would highly recommend El abejo (a 5-10min drive) across on the other side of the valley, the food and the welcome we received being well worth going easier on the Sangria for! We also made good use of the traditional wood fuelled BBQ in the courtyard (for which the wood and cooking implements were all provided) which allowed us to have a few more glasses of wine with dinner!
The area is exceptionally beautiful, with a vast array of walks and picturesque villages to explore right on the doorstep. You are only 20mins drive from Potes which means you're just far enough away to be out of the hustle and bustle, but convenient enough for its supermarkets, walking shops and market.
A great part of our honeymoon and we hope to go back again one day! -

Arriving at night, we were not prepared for the stunning panorama awaiting us when we threw open the shutters on our first morning. Photos do not do justice to the location and views across the valley from Olmares.
We were given ample, but not overwhelming, information about the accommodation and the surrounding area on arrival by the owner, who had also thoughtfully provided starter items in the kitchen to get us through our first night and morning.
The building has been beautifully restored, in total harmony with the environment, and the accommodation is extremely comfortable, equipped with everything you need and nothing that you don't. It was also fun to retire to the guest lounge and enjoy the film collection.
Olmares is clearly run by professionals, who understand the clientele to which they are catering; as such, we look forward to our return.
