The best views in the Caribbean

Left on 03/10/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Without question one of the best accommodations I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. And as a honeymoon destination Saline Reef exceeded our expectations in every way.

Saline Reef must surely enjoy one of the best views in the entire Caribbean, perched on the cliff edge at the top of Cap Estate with views to Pigeon Island and across to Martinique. The accommodation itself is faultless with the outside areas our particular favourite. With a sitting area, a dining area and an amazing pool area there is no shortage of space to relax. And with only 2 of us staying we had more space than we knew what to do with it. There are 2 pools, a smaller pool for sitting and enjoying a cocktail in (The housekeeper angel makes an amazing banana rum cocktail!!), and a bigger pool for swimming or just floating about to cool down. The sun beds around the pool are very comfortable, and the sitting and dining areas have space enough for 6 guests.

The privacy enjoyed by Saline Reef’s outside areas is amazing. The garden, pool and outside dining area cannot be seen from the road, neighbouring accommodations or even the sea below. You feel like you are the only people on the island in this villa. There is also an outside BBQ and additional dining/seating area at the bottom of the garden behind the bigger pool.

Inside, we used the master bedroom on the top floor which had not one but 2 private balconies, both with amazing views. We spent every morning, drinking a cup of coffee and watching the little fishing boats go about their business and in the distance the cruise ships slope into Castries. All 3 of the bedrooms in the villa are en-suite, have tons of storage space, air conditioning and a safe.

The inside living area is really bright and spacious with another dining area and tons of seating. The whole area can also be opened up to the outside and it gives the whole place an even greater sense of space and luxury. (When opened, the double doors by the table provide a lovely frame for the view down to Pigeon Island. It really is a spectacular outlook!). There is also a TV which has american cable channels and Wi-Fi is available in most parts of the house

There is a fully equipped kitchen and another dining area upstairs. You enjoy the luxury of a housekeeper/cook who can prepare breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as the aforementioned rum cocktails!! She will also pick up shopping for you if you want. You can use her as much or as little as you like. We tended to use her for breakfast and the odd lunch and sorted ourselves out in the evening or went out. There is a gardener, (Oliver) and a maintenance man, (Alfie) who look after the property while you are there. You also have the added piece of mind in the shape of a security guard who in on site from 6pm – 6am everyday. Tropical Villas who manage the villa send out a rep to visit you at the beginning of the stay. She was a great source of local info and gave us maps, suggested restaurants (some with pre-arranged discounts!), days out and so on. She is also on call for you 24hrs a day should you need her for anything.

A car is essential when staying at Saline Reef in my opinion (preferably a 4x4 as it’s quite a climb getting to the property from Rodney Bay). 2 excellent hotels are within a 5 minute drive – Cap Maison and The Body Holiday. You can use these for lunches, dinner, their 5* spas or just to relax in one of their bars. The Body Holiday has a really nice beach open to the public. Rodney Bay is only a 10-15 minute drive and has tons of restaurants, bars, and shops. Your closest supermarkets can also be found here.

We really did have the most amazing honeymoon in Saline Reef, one we will never forget. The villa is nothing short of stunning and provides every comfort and luxury you will ever need. I cannot recommend it highly enough… although I was in two minds about posting this review as when word spreads, and more and more people stay, the clamour for available weeks in the coming years might get in the way of our return!

Properties like this are really one in a million.

      Our Stay at Saline Reef

Left on 06/03/2010 for a stay in April 2010

We have had a lovely time desipte suffering at delayed departure due to the volcano. Saline Reef is in a magical position and is a well proportioned house. Significant updating is necessary however - all sun loungers were broken and house seemed to be quite tatty in places. The staff, even by Caribbean standards were 'lazy' and this was brought to the attention of Tropical Villas locally. However, we have been very happy and enjoyed our holiday immensely.
