Every year the University of King's College does an intensive week of training for its Residence Staff. This year the college chose to use the Cabot Shores facilities as a spot for some activities and seminars. The space was ideal. Not only did the Farmhouse comfortable sleep all 10 of us but Barbara and Paul went out of their way to provide a fabulous meal on our second night. Delicious steaks and yummy curry with rice for the vegetarians (for a very nominal fee). We also got to see a number of local bands play at the open mic session held in the main cabin after dinner. Our hosts went more than out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. The cabins and chalets are located on a beautiful piece of land with access to water activities and many ways of exploring the landscape.

Charleston, ILExcellent location & hospitality!
Left on 07/26/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We are a group of 8 hikers who selected the farmhouse because of its location on the Cabot Trail. Not only was it conveniently located for our needs, it was also a great home for our week-long stay. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds (with a path to the water), the firepit, and outside deck for morning coffee. Paul & Barbara were both very helpful with hiking suggestions and other ideas for fully appreciating Cape Breton Island (e.g. whale watching & a Ceilidh musical performance -- just wonderful!). Make sure to enjoy the food at the lodge while you're there!

We love active and thoughtful guests. This group of 8 loved hiking, music, and food. They are experienced hikers and get along well. We appreciated their energy and enthusiasm and positive interaction with other guests and with the Cape Breton Highlands area.

Left on 04/15/2010 for a stay in June 2004
I was part of a group of adults and children who lived together for 2 weeks, some of us camping on land and some staying in the house. Barbara and Paul planned trips like whale watching and adventure walks up the Indian River. A mile down the road is a fresh water pond for swimming behind the stony ocean beach. One day we walked back up to the farmhouse on the coast and climbed the cliff with the assist of a rope! Quite an adventure for a middle aged woman!
A few miles up the road in the other direction is a beautiful sandy beach. There is also a lovely cafe a short distance from the farm house. Across the street is the Gaelic Singers Hall where Ceilidhs (Celtic music concerts) are held regularly.
The grounds are lovely with blueberry bushes in the fields and flowers all around. The stars are very visible as are the Northern Lights often. The house has been renovated with open beams, wood floors and large windows for lots of light. There is a large family room and eat in kitchen on the first floor so it is an ideal place to have a gathering of family and/or friends for music, games or just visiting. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths for comfort with laundry facilities in the house as well.
