Trinity, FL, United StatesSpring 2013
Left on 03/26/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We were able to book a 2BR with short notice and no trouble. Rates were fair. We've been staying at Palm Island since 1989. Beaches and fishing are great! Peaceful and quiet. The beachfront room we stayed in this time was showing a lot of wear and tear though. Warped cabinet doors, large gaps in the cabinets under the sinks from what appears to be past water leaks. Washer/dryer sliding door broken, hot water could not keep up with the 4 of us. We've been in much nicer units though and it looked like they're upgrading a few of them during our stay. Suggestion: tear out all the rotten particle board in kitchen and baths, install pre-fab wood cabinets from Home Depot for $1,500 and it will last for a decade. I thought of a great idea for checkout when you rent golf carts. Allow renters to leave/check out their carts where you check in for your stay. Simply have someone from Coconuts meet you there, eliminating the hassle of hitching a ride back to the parking lot. I think people would love this. We will be back soon!

St. Joseph, MI, United StatesWeek after Thanksgiving
Left on 12/03/2012 for a stay in December 2012
This was our 4th stay at Palm Island resort, 5th time on the island. There were very few renters for the week following Thanksgiving. The resort appears as it did 15 years ago. The setting is unique, the grounds very well maintained. Our two bedroom unit was located where I had hoped, beachfront and less than 100 yards from the pool reserved for renters in our building group.
The unit was clean, but a bit tired...older Formica counters, cupboards and drawers adequately, but sparesly appointed. These indvidually owned units are updated...or the owners with the resort setting basic standards. The first time we stayed at Palm Island resort the unit'skitchen had been updated with higher end appliances and Corian counters, special lighting...not so in the unit this stay. Those comparisons aside, Palm Island Resort delivers on grounds appearance, layout, orientation to a beautiful, six mile long beach, Gulf sunsets and laid back quiet lifestyle. If you are looking for those things in a vacation, I've been nowhere like Palm Island Florida or the Carribean. -
Windermere, FL, United StatesQuiet Relaxing Beach Weekend
Left on 11/13/2012 for a stay in November 2012
This was our 3rd trip to Palm Island Resort. The villa was nice and fit our group well. The weather was great for the beach and we enjoyed picking shells and sand dollars. It looks like the beach suffered damage from a storm but it didn't impact our stay. We did find a roach in the villa but it appeared to be solo and we didn't find anymore during our stay. We will return next year again for a long weekend.

VALRICO, FL, United StatesGreat stay but units need upgrading
Left on 08/05/2012 for a stay in July 2012
In the four years that we have visited the resort we have always enjoyed put stay. The only disappointment over the years has been the cindigo on of the rooms we have stayed in. I realize that the majority of our time is spent on the beach but it would be nice to come back to a room that is upgraded and comfortable. I think the owners of these units should be made aware of the conditions of their units and the need to invest in them to make them more appealing. We plan on coming back but would like to have the opportunity to enjoy a more upgraded unit.

Loved the location of the unit just off the beach. Tv could use updating. Our friends stayed in another unit which had a larger flat screen tv easier to view from couches. Most of our time was spent on the beach though. One rainy night we stayed in to watch tv and kids watched at night.

Columbus, OH, United StatesPalm island stay
Left on 03/26/2012 for a stay in March 2012
Had great weather for our 11 days on the island. The housekeeping staff was great and responsive. Rum Bay is losing some of its appeal. Wait staff was not consistent on charging for drinks and refills and their are no healthy options for the kids to eat. Ran into a few palmetto cockroaches in the condo at the end of the stay and the front desk response was "well it is Florida"...
Still will come back just not the same unit. -

I had been once before with my daughter and one of our friends. On this stay, I brought my husband and sister in-law and her husband - - everyone was extremely pleased. I would love it if it were possible that people that had stayed at the resort were offered special discounts to stay at the resort during the year and especially during the non-peak season.

Left on 11/23/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Spent 3 days and 2 nights in a 2-bedroom Beach Villa with my wife, sister and brother-in-law. The unit was immaculate and tastefully decorated, with beautiful views of the beach and gulf. Pool was close by. Golf cart was included in the rental. Also rented bicycles and kayaks. So, we were able to do a lot of exploring. The entire experience was fun and relaxing. Dinners at the Rum Bay restaurant were well-prepared and fairly priced. This gem is only 2 1/2 hours from home. We will be back.

Left on 08/10/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We had the best short vacation in years! We decided to stay just for a couple of days, to see if we would like it... and we loved it! In our search for a great ocean front resort, we have traveled just about all the way around Florida and the Caribbean; in all, perhaps, we may have only found a couple of places we like to go back to, well we just found our new best favorite.
One knows, you have found something special if days after you, still find your self day dreaming...and Palm Island is that place for us...
Thanks, and see you soon! -

Left on 04/05/2010 for a stay in April 2010
We discovered Palm Island Resort 20 years ago, and have visited almost is a perfect family vacation spot with kids of all ages, especially young ones. Safe environment, away from traffic and noise. Several swimming pools, hot tubs, tennis courts and clean condos with fully equipped kitchens. Long, clean, beautiful beach, good for jogging, long walks, looking for shells, or building sandcastles. Plenty of interesting birds to look at. One week of total immersion into a different world, but still close to civilisation, should you need it (if your toddler gets an ear infection, etc.) You can go home totally recharged, no need for passport.Goergous starry nights, too.

When we first arrived and entered the first room we were to stay in we were pleased until we outside and could hear the construction 2 buildings down. The
property manager was very accomodating and put us in a bigger and nicer unit. We
would probably like to stay in that unit again. Great view of the beach and sunsets.
Very relaxing and peaceful.Response from Palm Island Resort - 11/02/2009

The resort surroundings and staff were wonderful. From the ferry captains to the check in staff and the grounds keepers - everyone friendly and helpful. Our particular condo was very basic. It was clean and we had new towels, however the kitchen equipment was minimal and was in need of updating. We have stayed at Palm Island before and we had family members in other condos this time - in comparison, this unit was by far in need of updating to Palm Island Resort standards and pricing equilavent. The beach chairs available were scarce and broken chairs remain on the beach.

In addition, the outlets in the bathroom did not work as long as the ceiling fan was on in the den area.
Also, the light over the kitchen sink did not work. -

WINDEMERE, FL, United StatesOne of many stays here.
Left on 04/26/2008 for a stay in February 2008
You have to be very careful when you stay here. Most of the units are now older and many are so incredibly worn and stinky.(they just feel dirty) We have had multiple units where the ac barely works if at all. I really wish they would change the entire bed between guests instead of just the sheets. Rooms are generally priced $250 and up which is alot of money for what you get. They need to put golf carts near check in instead of 1 mile down the road. My suggestion is either stay somewhere less expensive and cleaner or bring your own sheets. You have to know before you come across the ferry that there is one very poor restaurant on the island and you need to bring your groceries in from Publix or Walmart. We did not understand that the first trip down.
Restaurant is called Rum Bay and is good for a quick bite but very pricey. Most entres are in the $20 range and the quality is low to moderate. We are not picky people and I don't think we have ever gotten a correct order yet. My son's dinner never did come last time after sitting there for 2 hours. Luckily he wasn't that hungry.
Overall, don't be fooled by thinking you are going to get a luxury vacation here. It is very laidback which is the charm but as they continue to raise their prices those of us who put up with the less than desirable accomodations will find other places to frequent. -
