What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
Cape San Blas is just two hours (100 miles) from Tallahassee, the Capital of Florida, and one hour away from Panama City. There is good air transportation to those two markets, but most visitors drive from nearby states. The Cape is a peninsula jutting out from the mainland and into the Gulf of Mexico. It has been a desirable destination for southeastern U.S. visitors for decades, and is now even more visited, since being 'discovered' in 2004.

IAA wonderful place for a quiet getaway.
Left on 02/16/2013 for a stay in December 2012
If you are a person that likes a quiet place to get away from mass commercialism, this is a great place to stay. The owners are wonderful and easy to work with. We enjoyed quiet walks of the beach, traveling to the wildlife preserve and picking up shells. This was our second stay at this location. On our prior visit we chartered a boat and went deep sea fishing.
The only negative thing that I would say is that our cell phones with Verizon wireless would not work very well at this house. My spouses job requires him to be able to receive outside communication at all times and so this was problematic for us when an emergency came up. The land line would not accept incoming calls for some reason.
We would stay there again if we could fix the communication issue.Response from Duane Franceschi - 02/17/2013

Thank you, Millie Kay - You discovered why we named our beach home "Chill Out" - It's the place to be when you need a little R&R and need to charge your batteries! Very sorry about the cell phone service, but we are told Verizon is planning to provide more dependable service to the Cape San Blas area soon...And, we had the phone company come out to repair the land line. Thanks for your comments, and the heads up, they are appreciated.

Tallahassee, FLExcellent family get-away!

We spent the 2012 Labor Day weekend at your Chill Out house in Cape San Blas. The home and location were perfect! The home was very comfortable and well furnished, the layout was spacious and practical, and Donna really enjoyed the kitchen and cooking her brand of seafood!
The beach is just a few feet from the house so spending a few hours there or quickly going down for a view of the horses was very convenient and very nice!
With two kids and a dog, we certainly appreciate the pet-friendly beaches at the Cape. Fishing is great, as well! The beach was not crowded, even being a holiday weekend. And, don't let me forget to rave about the beautiful sunrises we enjoyed on the deck while drinking coffee!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us! We definitely plan to stay, again.

Las Vegas, Nevadaextremely disappointed
Left on 08/08/2012 for a stay in August 2012
After reading all the rave reviews on this property we all were anxious to get to this home and begin our vacation.
First I will start out with the positives. The home is in a good location and has a great floorplan.
Now for the negatives. When this home was new and newly. furnished I am sure it looked wonderful. Time and neglect has taken its toll. Water stains and cracks on the ceilings, walls need to be painted, carpet is gross, a piece of carpet is thrown over cracked and filthy tile by the patio doors, sofas filthy, we put down blankets before we sat on them, ripped cushions on dining chairs, dust coming off the ceiling fans, kitchen appliances dirty and greasy, pantry dirty and old food left from previous renters also the same in the refrigerator. Most of the blinds were broken and filthy and the doors all stuck. In general the place was a mess and unsanitary.
I realize a rental will get wear and tear but this is just plan neglect. We have stayed in beach rentals before and have always been pleased but not this time.
The outside is also in need of repairs.
It is a shame to see a home like this become such a mess.Response from Duane Franceschi - 01/29/2013

We, too, were “extremely disappointed” – This was not a normal rental experience; Here is ‘the rest of the story’…
First, after booking, this visitor requested we divert from our normal billing procedure and split the billing to family members with small payments over a long period of time. We accommodated her.
Next, our regular cleaning person went on vacation, but failed to inform us, and hired a replacement to fill in. The replacement person partially cleaned the home, made the beds and cleaned the bathrooms. However she ran out of time and did not finish when the visitors arrived, and the kitchen was not properly cleaned and up to our standards.
When this renter called to let us know of the cleaning mix up, she recognized the home was partially cleaned, but it was acceptable, and that additional cleaning would be forthcoming.
(If you will note the reviewer's complaints 90% were of a cleaning nature). The unclean kitchen was the beginning of additional events, which contributed to this unfavorable review:
One of the children slammed the front door and the $1500 stained-glass window fell out and broke. She claimed the door stuck.
Somehow she locked herself in one of the bathrooms and her husband broke the lock and nicked the door to get her out.
During a heavy Gulf rainstorm she claimed the ceiling was leaking and about to collapse on her children who were sleeping. It was a minor leak, which has been corrected with roof repair.
I suspect this renter was unhappy from the first minutes of occupancy, and her disappointment only gained momentum from that moment. An interesting note: Hers is the only negative comment we have ever had about our property!
We perform regular maintenance on the home, normally in the spring. All of the maladies noted in this review have been corrected, the kitchen sparkles, the carpets and sofas have been deep cleaned and we do major cleaning at least once per month. Blinds have been replaced or repaired in all rooms. Recent guests of Chill Out are very complimentary, and visitors who have stayed with us continue to have nothing but praise for the home, its comfort and its location at Cape San Blas. I would welcome a discussion with potential renters who might have concerns. Just call or email.
Thanks for listening, Duane Franceschi, owner of Chill Out 850-385-1318.

Seymour, TnIt was so relaxing and beautiful.

This was the best beach location for us. The forgotten coast is the perfect kind of vacation to be able to get away from the crowds. We were able to see dolphins, blue crabs, stingrays, schools of fish and we found so many wonderful sea shells. The beach was clean and felt safe. We also enjoyed seeing the horseback riders. There were great places not too far to get fresh seafood, we brought it back and cooked some on the grill, it was delicious. This was one of the best vacations ever!

We couldn't imagine a better place to start a new life together.
The cottage had everything we needed and all the comforts of home. The beautifully designed interior with an artful flair complements the pristine beach and untouched surroundings.
A great place to get away from the press of civilization and just listen to the silence. -

This house exceeded our expectations. It was very spacious and the layout was well thought out. The walk to the beach was very convenient. Our teenagers had fun without any miniature golf and go carts! It was also convenient to grocery shopping and restaurants in both directions. I would definitely return to this rental. The owners were very gracious and accomodating. Just wish we could have stayed longer.
