We stayed here for 10 days. Brad greeted us when we arrived, he gave us the tour and gave us some tips (what to see and where to go). He is such a perfect host, you asked for something-the response is instantaneous. We ran out of coffee one morning, we emailed him, within minutes he was there with the requested coffee :)
We really enjoyed the fact that we were allowed to roam around his property to pick any fruits we like. There are hundreds of papaya trees in his property, you can pick as much and eat as much, they were super tasty. We also picked some grapefruits-they were a little tart. One day a pineapple showed in our porch. We really enjoyed that one as well. Brad also provided us with unlimited supply of macadamia nuts, half of the fun was cracking them. His avocados are excellent as well.
Thank you Brad and Linda for sharing the bounties of your farm. Your coffee was one of the best ones we've ever tasted.
The outdoor shared kitchen is really nice, but I would preferred a separate/private one.

We have had the pleasure of staying at the South Kona Coffee Estate two times (including our Honeymoon). We love our home away from home. We truly appreciate the special touch and attention to detail that Brad and Linda provide. They make us feel at home. We highly recommend staying here and having the time of your life. We couldn't ask for more.

Would highly recommend! Brad provided fresh fruit, coffee, and macadamia nuts the whole of our stay. We spent a month on his plantation and enjoyed seeing almost all of the island. The best was snorkeling at the captain cook monument with all the colorful fish, eels and beautiful coral. Kayaking back we were surrounded by many spinner dolphins. Great experience for anyone!

Totally wonderful. Like sleeping outside with all the comforts of home. Just what you want when vacationing on the Big Island. Up high, so nice temperature, and need a car to get to beaches etc. But totally away from the hub-bub of Kona.Almost hate to write as glowing a review as I feel for fear the place will get so booked up we can't get back in.

We had a great time staying with Brad. The accommodations are basic, but comfortable and workable. The outdoor kitchen is adequately supplied and fun for preparing food and chatting with other guests. It is not luxurious, but rewarding and friendly. We would recommend it to anyone with a bit of an adventurous spirit, but one who enjoys being out of the rain in a comfortable bed surrounded by green growing plants. The plantation is plus and, of course, having Brad's recommendations for touring is great. We loved it.

Living off ground amoungst mac nut and banana trees. Birds chirping and curious Geckos as you sip bomb coffee. Organic vibe and cool little mixed coffee and fruit/nut plantation 1 mile from one of the best fruit stands. Snorkei 2 Step and Ho Okena or Captain Cook, Green Market and shops in south Kona is very laid back organic vibe. However, uptown and Hapuna and Maklawena beaches are driving distance away. Price is right and Brad is very helpful- just ask him. Aloha

A great spot with all kinds of "woah...look at that" moments. Brad is super cool and laid back and willing to help out with all kinds of tips for the island. Place is gorgeous and super natural. With that nature though comes bugs, so don't be skittish. They're not so much in the sleeping area (although we did have a pretty cool geko'ish creature running around) moreso when you are outside cooking.
Only downside is that it's a bit of a drive to many of the main sights and since the speed limit is 35 it can take a while, so as long as you don't mind a few bugs and aren't in a hurry, this place is awesome. Highly recommended. -

We stayed here for 9 nights in January 2013 and really enjoyed it. Fresh coffee, fruit and nuts every morning was wonderful. The location was okay, we were a bit too far from Kona but it did give us a good starting point for our drive around the island and the time we enjoyed in the Capt Cook area. Overall, great place!

We moved from our timeshare resort to this beautiful location where we went from luxury to a homey type atmosphere. Though the timeshare was huge in comparison to the one room accomodation here, we much preferred the feeling of belonging. As much as we enjoy exploring the Island, we weren't in a hurry to leave in the mornings because we enjoyed the atmosphere of South Kona Coffee so much. It was so relaxing to sip our Kona coffee supplied by Brad & Linda while enjoying the plentiful fruit we picked ourselves on the acreage. We still talk about how very delicious the fruit was. One of the highlights for Tim was helping Brad pick jack fruit and bananas. Then there were the mac nuts... We fell in love with the raw ones that were also quite plentiful. We can't wait to go back!

Brad and Lind are most gracious hosts and are very accomadating to make you feel very welcome. They will provide you with organic fruits and some avacado's as well as coffee and macadamia nuts while you are there and even ship the later 2 to your door after you leave. They will give you the best advice of things to do and where to shop and if you have the chance to join a boat trip with Brad please grab the expericnce, you will love the adventure. the beds are wonderfully comfy, just like the one I have at home. the place is very clean. You can wander the grounds and relax here and pick your fruit or gather mac's but be sure to ask Brad what to look for when picking the mac's. I felt the energy of the Island and the unconditional love of the universe both times I have stayed at Brad and Linda's place. The crickets lulled me to sleep. I love Hawai'i. They will do whatever they can to make you comfy. Very clean. you are not in the city, and candles are lit at night to welcome you home. I was looking for peace and serenity and I found it here. Some of my friends would like the city better but not me. Linda is a wonderful cook, enjoy her cooking if you have the chance.

Brad was helpful and friendly, kept a clean and beautiful place. He gave advice on places to visit, and kept the macadamia nut bowl filled! The weather was kind of hazy a lot of the time, but I understand that is just the way it is on the Kona side of the Island. Highly recommended vacation spot.

Staying at the Whale hut in the company of Brad & Linda, is like visiting old friends and getting to stay at their amazing tropical jungle hideaway. You feel welcomed from the moment you drive in. You have complete privacy yet can hang out with great neighbors over coffee or cocktails in moments in the outdoor kitchen. Never have I seen such a great nut cracker much less one on my lanai with Mac Nut trees in front of me! The candle lit homecoming each night is totally unexpected and so cool! Fresh fruit from the property, the best coffee on the Island, tropical breezes, quiet nights, great indoor but outdoor shower, did I mention the best coffee on the island!
I have stay in several accommodation's from condos to yurts on the Big Island, and I will definitely stay at South Kona Coffee again and again. Brad is a great source of information for area on things to do and insight to much about the island. Plus he and Linda are just great people to talk to!
Thanks for the coffee and treats! I can enjoy my aloha for at least a little while longer after being back on the mainland, but we'll be back soon! Mahalo Pati & Bill

We have stayed at Brad & Linda's place two different times and we love it. We live in Hawaii already and this is by far one of my favorite places. I would pick this over a 4 star hotel. It's peaceful, quiet, simple and very relaxing. Fresh, homegrown Kona coffee, papaya, banana's and mac nuts...pure happiness!!! ~~~Aloha

Located in the coffee altitudes of South Kona, Brad and Linda's tropical hideaway offers an escape from the hotel atmosphere. Apple bananas, raw macadamia nuts, papayas and avocados are plentiful as is freshly ground organic coffee for your morning brew. Bring your own half & half and other food stuffs to cook on the outdoor grill. Brad and Linda also provide basic beach toys for your enjoyment and there's a small refrigerator in your room. This location is for adventurers and the physically fit.

Such a sweet place, we loved every minute of our stay here. The room was comfortable, and the kitchen was fun as it's outside. What we liked best was the secluded aspect of the place since there's only one other guest cottage. And also being able to partake of the fruit, coffee and nuts that are grown here. Brad was a gracious host, very nice and very helpful...we never met Linda, i guess she doesn't want to interact with guests or maybe she wasn't even there...
Part of the charm here is that it's a ways from Kona, and a bit of a ways from any restaurants and beaches so if you plan on spending a lot of time in or around the Kona area, you will have to factor in the driving. -

As long as you are agile enough for the steps from your parking to the cottage this could be your dream getaway! We try to avoid hotels and resorts, looking more for the local experience. This 7 acre coffee, Mac nut and fruit plantation is 15 miles south of Captain Cook and we Loved it at $450 a week! The "living space" (seperate from the outdoor, but covered kitchen area, and bathroom) is very comfortable. The rain and mac nuts falling on the roof sounded good, and watching the stars from bed is really sweet for any boomer campers of old. The cabin comes with dish on a flat screen TV, Fridge, coffee maker and french press, estate coffee of your roast specifications, fresh fruit and estate raised fresh chicken eggs. An audio system is also inside. The fan is very helpful on humid days. No heat or air, but it wasn't needed at this time of year.
There are a good number of beaches near the area to snorkle and all the equipment you could want is waiting for you. There are masks, snorkles, fins, boogie boards, chairs, hats, swim shoes, really, everything! Brad can tell you which ones are which (spinner dolphins, sea turtles, surfing, snorkeling)
We loved cooking and eating outside at the bar (with stools), several days were rainy but under the cover you are dry and enjoying the sounds and smells from the plumeria and other resident plants.
The shower, with sink and head are in a separate building just past the kitchen area, it is fully tiled and secluded, no glass windows, screens only as in the cabin, like showering outside, which we enjoyed.
One last thing, use the mac nut breaker, you get as many as you can eat! Hopefully you will also enjoy the geckos that abide there, and an odd chameleon with three horns, all docile. Lots of birdsong overhead, Just Enchanting! There are two short term cabins if you have friends to share your retreat time. -

We visit Hawaii for nature more than the resorts and this rental served our needs perfectly. Quiet and away from the busiest parts of the Big Island, while still a short drive from everything we wanted to see. The open-air cottage was comfortable and met all our routine needs exceptionally well with lots of attention to little details too. The property is beautiful and the owners very helpful. Loved the coffee, the fruit and the setting.
