Additional Location Information
Villa Casa Fontana is situated just where Laglio meets the ancient village of Carate Urio on the west shore of Lake Como, with many of the lake's famous hotels, like Villa d’este, close by. Narrow stepped pathways and romantic footbridges link the characteristically old lake villas to the shore. The house itself is just 45 seconds drive from Villa Oleandra, George Clooney's Lake Como home and has breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains and villages on the far shore.
Shopping is typical of a small village with a handful of café-bars and restaurants where you are guaranteed a warm welcome, great coffees, wines and of course fantastic food!
There are wonderful things to see and do around the lake and there are great places to eat and drink that suit every budget. Whether you like to sightsee and enjoy some of the cultural history of the lake and beyond or if you and your kids are in the mood to be active - including having a good old shop - then Villa Casa Fontana is ideally placed to start your adventure.
When it's time (and that's almost any time in Italy) to think about your tummy Lake Como offers a wealth of eating and drinking opportunities to suit every budget from sipping espresso - or prosecco - to eating out.
However you like to spend your day, start your tour at the water's edge, where Via Fontana meets the lake and remember you can always travel all around Lake Como by boat and gaze longingly at the homes of the rich and famous and truly savour the lake weather.
Although Milan (Malpensa) airport is the closest at only 45 minutes drive you can also fly to Milan (Linate) and Milan Bergamo (Orio al Serio). Both are one hour's drive away give or take few minutes - depending on traffic. Many of the low cost airlines, as well as the regular airlines, fly to these airports.
TRAINS, BUSES, BOATS & DRIVING
The city of Como can be reached easily by train, bus and car. Driving in this part of Italy is much easier than myth would have it. Most of the well-known car hire companies have a base at all three airports. Remember also that as well as driving to the villages around the lake you can reach them by public boat (Gestione Navigazione) or by bus (Autolinee).
All of our booked guests will be sent details on how to reach the house along with details of all the local `gems'. Although parking is limited there are three different parking areas as well as street parking close by.
