Description
Playa Lapa is a privately owned ocean front residence in remote Carate, Costa Rica, only two miles from the Corcovado National Park. The Casa is tucked deep in a grove of lowland palms, right on the beach facing the Pacific Ocean and insulated from the rest of the world by jungle on either side. The thundering surf pounds relentlessly against this prime turtle nesting area, and creates a continuous and exciting background for the parrots and shore birds by day, and the frogs and other jungle creatures by night. The magnificence of this vast and undeveloped beach is one of Playa Lapa's most alluring natural attractions which you can enjoy from any of the shaded outdoor living areas surrounding the Casa, as well as from the upper observation deck or bedroom.
With the proximity of primary rainforest on the adjacent mountain, Carate has abundant wildlife, hiking trails, streams and the Pejeperrito lagoon, creating a variety of activities for visitors.
Playa Lapa comes with solar hot water, outdoor shower, 4 kayaks, boogie boards, 5 hammocks, beach chairs and towels, Sarchi deck furniture, fully equipped kitchen, and a small library of nature books. There is a guest assistant on the property to help you with questions, kayaks or coconuts!!
Cellular internet is available a few steps from the casa, using a local KOLBI SIM card in your smart phone. Playa Lapa is truly a unique destination: Corcovado National Park to the west, the lagoon to the east, the ocean and miles of unspoiled beach in front, and the jungle behind. For a memorable experience of intimacy with nature, plus personal comfort and convenience, there is really nothing quite like Casa Playa Lapa.

Response from the owner Thank you ,Julie, for taking the time to review my beach home--I realize this was primarily a Realestate trip, and that you only had 2 days out of your 3 day stay to actually enjoy the Casa, the wildlife and the wonders of the jungle. As for your difficulties with the locks and screens, well, with the close proximity to the ocean, the salt air will have its effect on everything, and we are obliged to replace them frequently as needed. At Playa Lapa we have 3 independent solar arrays, a fairly robust power system, that with conscientious use as advised in the Guest Guide, will seldom let you down! My biggest concern with your review is that you were unhappy with swimming on Carate Beach. I agree, the open Pacific surf can be powerful (which is a delight for surfers). But perhaps you missed my advice in the Guest Guide to swim only at low tide when the ocean is calmest--or perhaps there were just not many "low tide" hours during your short 2 days (one of which was an all day hike in the National Park.) Since low tide advances daily and could occur during the night, I really think you may feel differently if you had stayed longer and had an enjoyable swim or 2.
