We spent five very relaxing nights in Barn End and plan to go back for another visit. It is a very comfortable and attractive cottage, maintained to a very high standard. It is roomy, bright and warm. There was a biting wind and some heavy rain when we were there and it was lovely to come in to its cosiness. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment and the nearby farm shop is well worth a visit for tasty treats to cook. The location is perfect for access to Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall, Talkin Tarn, Lanercost and other points of interest in the area. Read more

Stunning cottage holiday in a beautiful location...

I really don't know where to start. From the moment we arrived at Barn End, we were blown away. We turned down the lane in a lovely little village and the lovely Barn End appeared in front of us.
Opening the door we climbed the stairs and then the wow factor kicked in. Sumptuous wooden floors under our feet, we walked into the main living area. Exposed oak beams above us were to die for. The amount of money the owner must have spent fitting this cottage out shows everywhere. A fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher and washing machine. An incredibly comfortable couch to relax on at the end of the day. A large HD TV with full Sky package, yes movies and sports, for you to enjoy. A leather recliner with foot stool, OMG!
French doors opening out to a view of the River Eden with unspoiled views of the countryside beyond. The bedroom was similarly lovely, matching classic furniture all round with a nice comfy bed too. The bathroom is high spec as well, with a very good shower for soothing your weary body at the end of a long day.
We stayed for five nights and we had something to do every day. Just four miles to Carlisle, really close to Hadrian's Wall, Hexham is very nice and it's not much further from there to get to Newcastle. The Stag Inn is only 200 yards away and I heartily recommend a meal there. All freshly prepared food from local suppliers with friendly staff.
I really could go on, but the best thing to do is go for yourself. You won't regret it. Read more

Very comfortable accommodation

This was a lovely, warm, peaceful cottage with lovely views to the river and beyond. Situated in a very quiet village with just a local pub so a car is essential. I do have to say however, this is the only cottage I have stayed in, where the owner has not bothered to introduce themselves, especially with only living adjacent to the property. We arrived about 6pm and I do think a pint of milk, at least, would have been welcome, especially as the village did not have a shop. A lovely property but lacking in friendliness from the owner, so for this reason, I would not recommend it.
A quiet, relaxing break with beautiful scenery & every home comf

This is a wonderful, peaceful area and the accommodation is beautiful, set to take advantage of the lovely scenery and wildlife. Although the area is rural, it is very convenient for the city of Carlisle with it's historic attractions, excellent rail communication and lovely shops. During our stay we took the train from Carlisle to Glasgow which was very interesting. The School of art is definitely worth a visit. Silloth on the Solway is also a short drive away with excellent fish and chips served in a corner cafe.
The owners of the cottage leave you to enjoy your holiday without being disturbed but reside in the adjacent house and are on hand if any problems arise. We did not encounter any at all during our week's stay.
If you want a quiet, peaceful holiday with all the home comforts of a stylish, modern, well equipped apartment then this is certainly the place to go.

well equipt base in a lovely region

well equipt, however let down by lack of outdoor space, has a ground floor entrance then apartment is all on the first floor with a juliet balcony but no outdoor access. We enjoyed our stay and it was pleasant accomodation in a nice rural location. Nice welcome touches by hosts however an over abundance of ornaments etc meant that bit tight for space in bathroom and living areas.
Fantastic Base for exploring Cumbria and the Lakes

I stayed at Barn End with my girlfriend at the start of June for two nights and could honestly not fault it.
The accommodation is spacious, clean and finished to a very high standard. The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils you might need, there is sky tv, great stereo, comfy large bed, well finished bathroom.
The quaint village pub a couple of minutes walk away is also well worth a visit!
Overall, a great place to stay and I would certainly visit again!

This accomodation provided a pleasant and relaxing environment from which to explore the surrounding area. The property owner was helpful and accomodating to our needs, the property was spotlessly clean and the furnished to a high standard. We would definately visit again
