This is the 2nd year we have rented this house . We love the location and how secluded yet close to everything . I would say on a negative note the owners need to do some fix ups around the house. The kitchen was barely stocked this time around. We did call McLain Propertys and they are wonderful at restocking what is needed. The Master Bedroom needs a new Mattress... we sink in to the middle and not very comfortable at all

Service was excellent from owner and property manager. The home was easy to get around in with plenty of windows for light. It was located in downtown Carlsbad Village and everything was within walking distance. Every amenity you could think of. We liked big screen tvs with HD and DVR.

We were pleased with the condition and cleanliness of the property. It was tastefully remodeled and decorated to make use of the home's design and architecture. There were a few minor issues (the blinds on the bay window in the bedroom did not work and although the web site advertised "spa" products, there was only one set of tiny shampoos, etc. - not enough for one night with the three of us - this shouldn't be promoted on the website and the shower curtain liner needs replacing) However, this is very minor. The home felt private and tucked away. We enjoyed seeing hummingbirds everyday around the pool and in the side yard. We could walk to the beach, to eat, and to shop, but when we tired of the crowds and the activity, the home was a peaceful retreat. The train track runs right behind the home (one house over) and while that could be convenient for people who want to ride it, the noise was definitely a consideration. Multiple trains ran throughout the day and night. Overall though, I would choose this house again despite the train. My daughter slept through it. The fireplaces were very nice to have with the cool nights, and the beds and furniture were comfortable. There were plenty of towels, dishes, pots & pans, but you will need your own paper products, laundry & dish soap. The oven is old and took forever to heat, but the stove was fine and there is an outdoor grill. There was a washer and dryer around back and a dishwasher in the kitchen. There was a giant lemon tree full of fruit and we enjoyed lemonade. This is a busier area than we realized, and having an off street driveway for parking was important. We considered a condo right on the main road with a view of the beach, but this was definitely the better option for us beacuse the fenced in yard and pool area made it very private and homelike. I would recommend this to families or anyone who wants a place to retreat back to after activities.

We had an amazing vacation here... very relaxing..close to everything, happen to be there for the art and craft show, which was very fun ... solar pool, so it was a bit chilly in april, train is also a little annoying, but no fault to house/rental...The McLain Properties was fabulous to work with...we were able to stay longer and they were very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again!

A lovely home, well equipped and designed. Good quality furniture and appliances (washer and dryer is a little old). Pool and outdoor shower are wonderful. Walking to the beach was perfect as well as to the down town area. Didn't appreciate the next door neighbors and the train is quite loud.

Loved the house and the pool! Nice neighbors too. It took a little while to get used to the train noise but we adjusted.
Two glitches:
When we arrived, we could not get in the front door. Someone came out and opened the back door for us and told us a repairman would be coming out that afternoon to fix the keypad. He did not come until Monday, two days later.
Some of the dishes and utensils in the cupboards were dirty. -

...but I'm afraid to tell you because then it will be booked more often and I might not get in! My kids and I stayed here for a week last summer. We've stayed in Carlsbad for a week every summer for the last 7 years but when our favorite hotel went up in price I looked for a new option. Best thing that ever happened! The house is just about 2 blocks from the beach and is such a nice place to stay with the pool, beautiful open concept so cooking doesn't seem like that much of a chore...needless to say we are going back this summer...and we are all very excited and counting the days! The only downside was that there were not enough cleaning supplies so I had to buy my own..so make sure you bring your favorite products. There is a washer/dryer but you need to bring your own soap. For the first few days we thought there weren't any towels in the house, but when we went to do laundry we found them in the washer. Whoever came to clean the house had not put them in the dryer. We washed them again as they were pretty stinky by then and all was fine. One last thing...the pool is not heated...so that got pretty cold at times, but we still had lots of fun. It wasn't too much of a detractor.

Remodeled cottage that really is charming and comfortable. A walk to beach and the village. Clean, and if you need anything, just walk 1 block to Barbara McLain's office. If you want quiet, however, the train is an issue. Stops later at night and starts around 8am. You kind of get used to it but don't. However, for the money it is worth it. If noise bothers you then pass. If some noise doesn't then it is a great value.
