The agent has not checked availability before renting

Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Would have loved to stay at this property and location. The agent collected my payment and 2 weeks before the arrival day informed me that the property is not available.

We really enjoyed the Carlsbad area

Left on 04/20/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We own a vacation home, manage it and stay in a lot of vacation homes when we travel. This home was nice and in a good location close to the beach.
This vacation home was poorly managed from administration problems, down to ensuring the home was ready for guests. Even though we were told a person from the property management company had just checked it prior to our check in.
Upon arriving we detected a foul smell. We soon discovered someone's recent dump unflushed in the powder room.
We were given the wrong internet access code.
The house was infested with ants and had been for sometime as you could see dead ones in areas the cleaner missed cleaning.
We have noticed that vacation rental homes managed by the owners are much better to stay in than those managed by Property Management companies that hire incompitant people to do it.

Lovely accommodation spoiled by the incessant noise from trains

Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The house was lovely and well suited for a party of three adults and three children, clean and all linens, bedding and kitchen well provided. The biggest disappointment was the trains running all night every night and blowing their horns at the railway crossing for the duration of our stay. Had I been aware of this I would not have booked the accommodation.
I have reported this to the agent who advises me that trains are not supposed to blow their horns after 10PM. This is something that the train operators apparently do not know.
Purely for this reason I could not recommend this property

      Unexpected Beauty

Left on 07/07/2011 for a stay in January 2011

We had a long work stay at this home: Jan-May. From the street it looks modest but neat and tidy. Forget the exterior photo. When you open the front door, the inside is such a surprise. Very artfully designed. Nice photos on the net but they do not prepare you for the true beauty of this home. The tile work is outstanding. Beautiful bathrooms. And the kitchen is unexpectedly large and stunning. Its floor plan is spacious, airy. A contemporary Hacienda. Back yard is nicely lanscaped, very private, and overlooks a small lagoon. Love the beautiful tiled, wide patio that flanks the house on 2 sides in back. Lagoon is also a visual feast of unusual migrating birds. Bring your benocs! Each bedroom is unique and tastefully done. The whole place has a warm feeling. Its location was great for our business needs. Very easy freeway access. Also great for fun shopping. Short drive to Carlsbad village. We even walked there but it could be too far for some. Its close too to the rental agency which is great. Loads of great boutique shopping across the freeway! Groceries and good eateries very nearby. Lovely walk from this home to the beach. The less direct way winds through a beautiful country trail, which our dog loved. The beach near the house, is pristine. We literally had the beach to ourselves most of the time. Saw 9 gray whales one day from the bluff above it! Loads of dolphin. House is on a relatively quiet street in terms of traffic and neighbors, given that its 2 blocks from the water. The only thing that should be improved are the cooking pots and pans and the place needs some baking dishes and real steak and carving knives. Even for shorter stays. The teflon in the pots and pans is really shot. But that's an easy fix. Otherwise we loved this house. In fact, wished we owned it. And we love Linda ahn who is the vacation rental manager for Barbara McClain. She made our stay perfect from beginning to end and always does.
