Nice house with beautiful garden. The location is perfect: very close to the sea and not too far from Carmel downtown.
The house has all the facilities for a convienient stay.
Moreover, we recommend to make a hike around the Point Lobos park. -

We had a lovely family mini-reunion at this charming cottage! Six of us were quite comfortable in this 3 bedroom house with a lovely patio area and fireplace inside. At night we could hear the ocean a few blocks away! This was the perfect destination for a winter holiday! The owner made us feel quite welcome and my husband was able to keep up with work with wi-fi on site! Would definitely stay again!

Our family of six adults had a wonderful time in Carmel. The cottage is charming and comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped, and the gardens are beautiful The caretaker, Doug, was very accommodating. We had the good fortune of sunny skies and high 50's to low 60's while we were there, which was perfect for our bird-watching, hiking, and beach -strolling activities. We hope we can return sometime, but we doubt the experiences we had this trip can be matched! They included spotting dozens of whales off-shore at Point Lobos, watching a bobcat stalking prey in a nearby marsh, and a fabulous meal at The Flying Fish Grill.

We had six adults in our group and the Cottage met all of our expectations. We were within easy walking distance of the beach and enjoyed the garden very much. The kitchen was well stocked and we were able to prepare a great Thanksgiving dinner. The cottage was exactly as advertised.

My sisters and I enjoyed our stay in this lovely, historic cottage. Fans of domestic architecture from the period around the First World War will be delighted. The house had not been "improved" by persons with no appreciation of the historic nature of this place. The arrangement of the beams in the living room ceiling are sublime. The redwood interior and the antique furniture make you feel like the 21st century has vanished. It is decorated as a real home and not with the horrors of pseudo-Victorian B&B; decor. It is set in a neighborhood of delightful cottages. It is an easy walk to the beach and to the town center of Carmel. Really it is a hard walk since one must stop and discuss the gardens and architecture of each house one passes. I cannot think of a better way to experience Carmel than by getting to be a temporary local with one's own perfect cottage.
The baths and kitchen are up-to-date but retain their period flavor. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is well outfitted. Everything we reached for was right where it should be. Having a fireplace made the September nights so cosy. The sound of bubbling water and bird songs in the garden made the patio table a perfect spot for morning coffee and evening drinks.
It is a great spot to gather pals to sit and talk, to use as a basecamp for exploring the coast, and for shaking the frenzy of modern life from your brain. -

32810Doll's House in Carmel
Left on 06/04/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I fell in love with this charming property instantly. At first glance, the flower garden entrance was so enchanting and the cottage looked like a doll's house to me. As you enter the large tiled foyer, you feel like you are stepping back to another place in time. You can breath the "Old World" charm all over this house. To the left of the foyer is the great room open space with Julia Morgan's signature dark wood cathedral ceiling and a stone fireplace in the background. The room is furnished very tastefully in antiques, paintings, historical photographs and sculptures. Each of the three bedrooms sleep two and the beds are so comfortable I fell into a dream sleep on the first night there. The kitchen is a bit small, but well laid out and we managed to produce quite a spread of food in the few days we were there. Doug, the property manager, greeted us on our way in and was there for our departure as well. It was so comforting to know that if we needed anything, he was close by in the smaller cottage behind the house. My family and I will definitely return to this treasure in Carmel-By-The-Sea every chance we get.

AustinBeautiful cottage in a great location
Left on 05/19/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Just returned from a 6 night stay - the cottage is beautiful, the photos don't really show the charm of the decor or the house itself. It was the cleanest place we've ever stayed, well stocked with everything we needed and has plenty of space inside and outside in the lovely garden. We felt very comfortable and at home, and are hoping to return again for a longer stay. Krys was very responsive to our pre-arrival questions, and the caretaker welcomed us the evening we arrived to show us around and answer questions. The location is perfect, a really nice walk to the beach, a longer walk to town that was lots of fun for checking out the beautiful area homes and gardens. Highlights were the Dametra Cafe in Carmel, and the Point Lobos Reserve.

We stayed for a week at this cottage as part of a trip to west coast USa. It was just perfect...clean, comfortable and full of character. Booking with the owners was easy and welcoming. It was perfectly located for the beach and a leisurely walk into the main shopping area. Highly recommended.

We have been spending wonderful family vacations with our grown children and grandchildren at this charming Carmel cottage for over a decade now and we always look forward to being there. The house is unique, rustic, cozy and extremely comfortable to spend time in. The location near the ocean and the village is convenient and ideal for walking and bike riding. We look forward to our next stay at the Cottage of the River Winds.

We really enjoyed this home. I felt like I was in a part of history. The gardens are beautiful, which can be enjoyed by relaxing and reading on the stone patio overlooking the garden. While we were there it was cool in the evenings and we were able to benefit from the large stone fireplace. The home itself is very comfortable. The house is only a couple of blocks from the ocean and we took many walks down to the beach and took in a few sunsets. One of the highlights was seeing a whale and her calf just off the beach on one of our walks. The wooden construction of the house is amazing; something that I feel could not be replicated today.

My husband and I were looking for a place to get away with our family for a week near the beach, and this ended up being the perfect spot! The layout of the place works well--the three bedrooms are nicely spaced to give enough privacy, while the main living room offers a spacious common area to hang out. We lucked out with fantastic sunny weather during our stay, so we were able to enjoy the beautiful garden and patio area. The cottage is cozy without feeling too small, the decor is unique, and the whole place is well maintained and clean.
We loved that the beach was only a short 5 minute walk away (very convenient for my husband, who was able to surf every morning we were there). We also enjoyed scenic walks overlooking both Carmel Beach and Carmel River Beach. The main shopping area around Ocean ave is a about a mile away--it's walkable, but we opted to drive and park instead. The grocery store (Safeway) is conveniently located a short drive away.
Both the owner, Krys, and caretaker, Doug, are very friendly, responsive and professional.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the cottage and look forward to a repeat visit in the future! -

We absolutely loved your beautiful cottage home!! When we arrived from our twelve hour drive, tired and somewhat grouchy, it was wonderful to enter Cottage of the Winds with everything already set up for our arrival. The beds were extra comfy with down comforters and extra pillows in all three bedrooms. The great room was beautiful with plenty of room for board games and meals in. The kitchen had all of the supplies a cook could want, which allowed us to have a dinner in every night if we so desired. The cottage was close to all of the art galleries and shops in town, and only a few short blocks away from the beach and beautiful ocean sunsets. The only drawback to our entire vacation was the weather on our last day in Carmel---very windy and rainy. But other than that, our trip was nearly perfect!!! Oh, one other comment---one of the three owners is a noted sculptor and painter. His work is displayed throughout the house, adding to its charm.
