We had the most relaxing visit at Sanctuary by the Sea during our March trip. The home was extremely clean and I love clean. Every detail was thought of throughout the home from the kitchen to the wonderful throw blankets. Our yorkie, Sasha, enjoyed her daily walks and the secret garden below the deck. I enjoyed my daily walks through town and along the beach. The instant hot water was perfect as we have tea every night. We have one at our home and I thought I would have to do without for the week, Annie was thoughtful enough to have one in this home. We have stayed at 10-12 different vacation rentals and this was by far the best on the list. We will be coming back again. Don't look at another home rent this one!

Left on 01/04/2012 for a stay in December 2011
Our family has enjoyed vacations in Carmel since Christmas 1957 when we rented Log Haven, one of Carmel's oldest cottages. Since then we've had many happy Carmel experiences, but none better than this year's enjoyment of our Sanctuary by the Sea cottage. The Sanctuary retains the ambiance of old Carmel while affording the comfort of top line, modern features. We look forward to returning. Sincerely, Ingrid Ericson

Everything that we wanted for the home was there. The arrangements and assistance were excellent. The house was beautiful and relaxing for all of us and our dog. The location was nice, very close to town, the beach, dining and shopping. It was perfect to relax, cook in the beautiful kitchen, which had everything needed for gourmet meals to snacks. The home and all things in it were exceptionally clean and comfortable. We will definitely stay again. We honeymooned in Carmel and came back for our 40th anniversary & it couldn't have been better!

From the personal note greeting us as we walked in the door of this charming Carmel cottage, to the wine and cheese to welcome our stay, to the well appointed kitchen, to the luxurious master bath, to the dreamy bed...we never wanted to depart!
The decorator touches from annee and the design of the remodel, transformed this typical little cottage into a true vacation sanctuary. Set up for relaxing or entertaining, for cooking or just making coffee, the kitchen was well equipped, and best of all, was a delight with spices, sea salt, olive oil and anything needed for a gourmet meal.
We enjoyed sharing the cottage with brother and sister-in-law, although we had to flip for the master bedroom Vs. the more feminine and smaller 1st floor guest bedroom. Other options for guests were 2 more rooms with day beds & trundles that would work for children or teens.
We look forward to our next stay here. -

This is an incredibly thoughtfully staged rental. Every detail shows how much the owner cares about the guests' experience. It's very charming, very well-located, and absolutely everything you could want is included, from an iron to lotion to a vacuum.
Check-in was a little slow because the information sent to us was incorrect. It said there was a lockbox by door (there wasn't. It was on side of house). It said the code would be something it wasn't. In fact, after a phone call to a confused agent, we finally figured out that maybe the key would actually be someplace else entirely (it was). But this was a mere 15 minutes of annoyance out of a great weekend. Beautiful house and well worth renting! -

Wow! What can I say?? If you are planning a trip to Carmel, it doesn't get much better than Sanctuary by the Sea!!! I came to Carmel with my husband, another couple and a girlfriend. All three of us girls were running the Big Sur Marathon. Sactuary by the Sea was the perfect house for us!! Tons of space! An amazing kitchen! A glorious clawfoot tub! And only about a 5 minute walk to Downtown Carmel & the beach! The Sanctuary Vacation staff was so helpful prior to our arrival. Hopefully, we will be back to Carmel and staying at Sactuary by the Sea again soon!

We were surprised and delighted to see how beautiful the house was and enjoy the masterful work that the owner put into it.
The rooms were comfortable, the kitchen was amazing, and the master bedroom was
delightful. We wished it had been a little
closer to the beach, but you can't have
everything. Also the staff went to extra
effort to provide us with tickets for the
aquarium. We would return in a minute if we could. Next year may find us back.

Sanctuary by the Sea is a lovely home that is a bright and warm feeling. It is about a 5 minute walk to town- a little longer coming home because it is up hill-good for our hearts. I feel that it can handle 6 adults well. The deck is wonderful. We love the Carmel area and this is a great place as a home base.

I had family and friends who came from Virginia, Kentucky, Washington and California. I and other family members came from Oregon. The kitchen is well stocked and big. The kids and some adults enjoyed the ping pong and pool table. We were unable to use the spa do to the weather. Pleanty of room and lots of movies. Great house for a crowd! Also close to many activities available in Monterey and surrounding cities. I would definitely recommend the house and stay there again.

Our stay was perfect in every way...the house was comfortable, clean, and absolutely beautiful. Our family was able to come and go during the wedding preparations and the days after were relaxing. The house had space for all of us to be together or find a secluded spot to read. The beach is only a couple blocks away and downtown Pacific Grove is a short walk. We will definitely be back!

Left on 02/28/2011 for a stay in January 2011
The rental was very professionally managed. The house was spotless and comfortable, with such great attention to every detail. We especially appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, and also the shelves of books, magazines, and movies. We love to walk and found the location great -- could explore the town and beach easily by foot (and go home in better shape from climbing Carmel's hills every day!) It was still not too peaceful in daytime on the deck due to the house construction behind, but they are making quick progress.

Annee and David, Thank you for sharing your lovely home with our family of five. There was plenty of space for our three young adult children and my husband and me. From the moment we arrived to find your welcoming note and wine and cheese tray, we realized how fortunate we are to be staying here. Your attention to detail in the kitchen enabled us to make the most of our meals together. We will always remember eating the grilled salmon my son had caught in the Pacific. It was a treat to puruse your books. I especially enjoyed the Carmel architecture book and your own Recipes and Reflection. We enjoyed watching Grapes of Wrath after visiting the Steinbeck Museum. Your home is perfectly situated for a great vacation. Our guys were able to play golf at Pebble and Cypress Point. We had an awesome hike around Point Lobos and a thrilling drive down Big Sur. We also enjoyed our visit to the Chateau Julien Winery. It has been so much fun to be able to walk into the downtown area of Carmel to shop and dine. My daughter and I greatly enjoyed the " Carmel walks". Our dining experiences have been superb and the people we have met have been so friendly. Thank you again for a memorable vacation.

Our family enjoyed a wonderful vacation staying at Sanctuary by the Sea in Carmel. The cottage is located a few blocks from the beach and town, so its a perfect location from which to take long walks. The house was very clean and well-maintained. Loved the master bedroom and roomy, sunny master bathroom. Linens were very fine quality, as were the appliances in the updated kitchen. House was well stocked with kitchen supplies and linens. Nice back deck for grilling, eating, and relaxing. The owner provided a new toaster and bathtub plug upon our request. Would definitely recommend to a friend. Ideal for 2 couples and 1 young daughter, but an additional adult couple could use the girl's bedroom, and a child or teenager could sleep on the couch in the TV room.
