What Past Guests Are Saying
Menlo Park, CA
Fantastic Cottage w/a view from the deck
We had a great stay here and truly enjoyed the beautiful deck. The walk down to the beach was on the long side but so beautiful you hardly notice. We will definitely be back!
Everything was exactly as described. I really enjoyed the house
Chagrin Falls, Ohio
This property is located in a quiet residential area south of downtown Carmel. The house is very well appointed, including the "little things" like beach chairs and a picnic basket. It has a large, private "garden" deck and hot tub. 2-3 minutes from grocery shopping and only about 5 - 7 minutes from Carmel's art galleries and restaurants. Highly recommended.
Perfect location, loved the house and amenities!
We loved the house and the awesome backyard with the hot tub. The house was cute, clean and comfortable. We really appreciated the bath towels, linens, and other items that some other vacation rentals require you to bring. The beach toys, chairs and other beach amenities were great. Perfect location, close to the beach, town, Pt. Lobos and Monterey. The extras--such as the tickets to the aquarium--really provided extra value to our trip.
A secluded hideway
Lovely back yard with hot tub overlooking Pt. Lobos. Tastefully decorated, well stocked kitchen, light and airy, lots of windows. Perfect enclosed yard for dog. We have been coming to Carmel for years and this is one of the nicest homes we have stayed in.
San Dimas, CA
My husband, my dog Mac and I enjoyed the peaceful and scenic views of this property. The house we well equipped, including the kitchen. The yard and gardens were beautiful. Wish the sun would have shined, but all in all we enjoyed the area, close to the Village and shopping.
Amazing,cozy and beautifully appointed cottage!
We absolutely loved this cottage. It was much nicer than the pictures and was very tastefully decorated. It was in a nice location had a lovely garden and we could not have been happier! The staff made sure everything was perfect!
wWe will definitely return!
Enjoyed the house and guesthouse. Had 6 adults and 2 boys(age 8 and 5). Kitchen had all we needed to cook in. Beds were perfect for restful sleep. Deck great for suppers outside.
Too much chlorine smell to use the hot tub.
Awsome View and Nice Special Touches
This house felt like home thanks to all of the well thought out touches and extras that were in place. The wine and cheese and crackers were wonderful and welcome after the long drive up ca-1 from L.A., and the fire laid was just what was needed on a chilly afternoon. The place was great.
Delightful and Heartwarming Cottage
We made a last minute trip to Monterey and Carmel. We were able to book this home for our extended weekend stay. It was more than we expected and were so very pleased with the home, all of its amenities and the welcome that we received. Special touches including a bottle of wine, crackers and cheese. We really dislike staying in hotels and prefer to stay in vaction homes like this one. The value was certainly there and gave us opportunity to get to know the area. Its location is minutes from everything, shopping, the beach, dining, grocery stores, and wonderful place to take a stroll. We surely will return and recommend to all our friends for their stays.
The house we stayed at was absolutely wonderful! We came in early spring when it was still a bit chilly, so the hot tub and fireplace were perfect. Having a concierge on hand made all the difference in our stay from finding a driver for wine tours or getting passes to the spa. They even left us a welcoming present when we arrived of wine and cheese! The price was very reasonable and the location of the house made us feel more like locals than tourists. I think we enjoyed staying home with the ocean view just as much as we had enjoying the pleasures of Carmel and Monterey!
This was a great place for a long weekend getaway. Spacious backyard for the dogs and within easy driving distance of beaches and town. Super clean and well maintained. The bed in the master is not the most comfortable and the mattress could use replacing and the living room furniture was not the most comfortable for long lounging in front of the lovely wood fire but in the summer I am sure this would be less of an issue as the backyard could be better utilized. The only other thing is be aware that the 10am checkout rule is strictly enforced! We got a loud bang on our door at 10:05am and were pretty rudely informed that the cleaners needed access asap!
Mesa Main House- Carmel, CA
Mesa Main House
We love the Mesa Main House. The back yard is perfect for our dogs and the 2 bed/2 bath layout is perfect for the humans! We love that this property is pet-friendly, has washer/dryer facilities, beach stuff for summer, fireplace for winter, dishwasher, etc. The back deck is wonderful, too. Sanctuary rentals does a fabulous job in making these fine homes available for rental and offering pet-friendly options. We will be back. Thanks, Sanctuary.
A Lovely, Peaceful Slice of Heaven
This was a very nice place to stay for my elderly father , dog, and I. I was able to walk to the beach and back twice a day and it was beautiful. It was close enough and yet felt very private. My dog loved the yard. The home was clean and very easy to use.
After a long day I would relax in the hot tub under the stars and then crawl into a comfy bed.
Cute cottage, well located for Monterey area exploration
Well appointed with a full service kitchen, appealingly decorated, clean and well organized, enclosed yard. Lovely distant view of Carmel River beach and reserve. Close to Mission Carmel, less than 2 miles to the Carmel Beach, close to shopping center, ten minutes or less to Point Lobos, Pacific Grove, Monterey, and downtown Carmel. We liked best the ready access to all areas, the quiet neighborhood, the hot tub, attention to detail in supplies and decor, and the pet friendliness. We did have an annoying problem with horse flies hatching in the heat vents, but did not tell owner til we left.
Beautiful, gracious accomodations...
As anyone who has ever rented a vacation home in Carmel knows, rentals are very expensive and are usually poorly maintained, dated and lacking in many amenities.
This was absolutely not the case at the lovely cottages we rented from Sanctuary Vacation rentals in early November.
The main house and guest house were both charming and very well appointed. In addition, I found the staff and owner to be very gracious, accommodating and responsive to our needs.
I would recommend them unequivicably.
Thank you again,
Dr. Erin Naus
The property was very well maintained - views were lovely and check-in wine and cheese was perfect after a long drive. Beds and pillows were very comfortable.
Have just returned from a lovely 3 days in Carmel at the Mesa Sanctuary. It is a beautiful home with an exquisite garden and deck. We wished for more time to just be at the home enjoying the view of the garden and the ocean.
The welcome cheese, crackers and wine were most appreciated and the home was immaculately kept.
I traveled with 2 other friends and we were truly sad to see our time at the Mesa Sanctuary end. Not to worry: we'll be back in the spring!
Karen and Nancy
What a rare gem to find a lovely, private home in Carmel! Every amenity and comfort was thoughtfully provided. We loved the deck and hot tub overlooking Point Lobos...morning coffee on the deck and sunset cocktails! The beds were super comfortable, and we slept like babies. It was a perfect venue for two sisters to relax, rejuvenate and connect with nature!! We also went to the Monterey Bay aquarium compliments of SVR and had a great time seeing the Great White Shark. We will be back!!
After a stressful week, great comfort
We actually came a day early, due to the stress of the week before our arrival--which could have been a disaster, but the very efficient and agreeable staff made up the house for us while we ate dinner in town. When we got back, everything was in order, and the hot tub we took, followed by wine and cheese provided by the house, were wonderfully calming. The house itself is lovely, clean, charming, with very comfortable beds, and a kitchen that is a pleasure to cook in. It would be a great pleasure to return to Sanctuary Mesa.
Response from Sanctuary Vacation Rentals - 08/15/2011
Thanks so much for your great review. We were so excited that the guests before you left a day early and we could accommodate you.
This was one of those situations that the stars all lined up and I am most grateful to Marie and Julia our staff for going over and beyond to make
the situation work for you. Best, Annee
I stayed for three nights with my aunt and cousin. We really enjoyed the house and garden. The king size bed was super comfy. The decor is lovely. Everything was superb.
El Cerrito, Ca
Mesa house and Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay. We had both the house and the cottage for our family. The hot tub and the wonderful outdoor eating area, complete with a partial bay view, made our stay even better. Both the house and the cottage were very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The property is on a very quiet street about a 1 mile from downtown Carmel.
I wish I had understood that the house only has two bedrooms, one "bedroom" is the living room. Be alert to the extremely early 10:00am check out time. 4PM is earliest check in.
Response from Sanctuary Vacation Rentals - 10/18/2011
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. I am sorry that there was any misunderstanding that the cottage guest house is a 600 square foot studio or can be a large master suite with a living room so it all depends on how you use it. Either way I would think it would be a positive as there is a living room in the main house as well as in the guest cottage.
We always try to accommodate early check in and late checkouts when we don't have a guest arriving that day and even then will say come over and pick up the aquarium passes and we will call you when the house is clean. I hope it you return you ask to get a late check out and that it works out for you. Take are, Annee
