The irresistible lure of the sea can be experienced both in distant ocean views and up-close in the ocean decor in this recently updated 2-bedroom, 2-bath Comstock cottage that features many of the unique historic touches that make Carmel architecture so unique.
Located just a mile (a 5 minute drive) from downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, this charming home is an escape into tranquility, nestled into a sunny spot surrounded by pines and oaks with a distant view of Point Lobos and the sparkling blue Pacific over a canopy of trees. Pebble Beach, Monterey and Pacific Grove are just minutes away by car and Big... Sur is a 45-minute drive.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted by complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the famous Spa on the Plaza in Monterey, tickets for a Scheid Winery tasting in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush bathrobes and oversized towels.
Park at street level in the quiet residential neighborhood and descend a few brick steps to a courtyard surrounded by a privacy screen of shrubs and trees. A table, 4 chairs and an umbrella are provided with a Weber grill so you can enjoy a casual breakfast, lunch or dinner in this secluded and harmonious setting.
The front entrance leads to a redwood-paneled living room with beige wall-to-wall carpeting, white open beam ceiling that is typical of Carmel cottages, a gas-burning Carmel-stone fireplace, and a sophisticated color scheme of ocean blues, coral, browns and sand. Enjoy distant ocean and treetop views revealed through a wall of windows with the distinct feeling of being in a forest.
A long narrow deck with railing runs along the back and side of the house with 2 white rocking chairs providing a lovely spot for morning coffee or a sunset glass of wine. There is also a white Adirondack chaise lounge, a great place to read a book.
A cozy grouping of furnishings in front of the fireplace includes a deep-chocolate-brown plush sofa/chaise combination that can become a queen bed with azure pillows and comfy throws, a burl-wood coffee table, contemporary patterned upholstered side chairs, a wooden Asian chest serving as an end table, a 55-inch flat-screen TV and a striped area rug in coral, blue and earth colors. A seashell motif in artwork and accents weaves throughout the house.
Do office work or just relax in a den, in coral and seafoam blues, situated just off the front entrance overlooking the courtyard. A beautiful Asian Print and accents compliment the Asian-influenced wooden desk with and built-in shelving with cookbooks and other reading material.
The freshly painted well-conceived kitchen will make gourmet meal preparation fun and easy. Features include stainless steel counter-tops and back-splash, stainless steel electric range, stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher. A bistro table for 2 overlooking the patio provides a spot to sit and chat with the cook.
Saloon doors lead to the adjacent dining room that. although open to the living room, inhabits its own space along the wall of windows, allowing diners to imbibe distant ocean views along with their meals. An oval wooden table with upholstered chairs can seat up to 8. Beautiful dishes, glassware, serving pieces and linens allow you to entertain in high style. Throw open the sliding glass doors that lead to the deck and let in the fresh ocean breezes and enjoy cocktails and appetizers at sunset.
The two bedrooms both have white bead-board paneling -- another typical Comstock touch -- and a palette of sea-foam greens, blues and sand. The master -- with treetop views -- has a king bed with Memory Foam topper (that can be converted to two twins, if desired) with an ivory coverlet and a coral and white starfish-themed comforter, an antique wicker dresser with a 32" TV and bedside table and white shell lamps. Gaze out through the forest in a coordinating wicker chair. The master bath with its coral palette has a tile shower and white luxury towels, spa amenities and shell motif art.
The second bedroom, with high windows, has twin beds (that be converted to a king with Memory Foam topper) with sea-foam blue comforter and sand-colored duvet and coastal art. Coordinating curtains, pillows and throws make this a designer room. The second bathroom with white towels and contrasting colors of blues and sea-foam green and sea-inspired accents make you feel you are in a ocean resort. There is a tub with shower.
A large garage has a washer and dryer and all that you might need for a trip to the beach – towels, beach chairs, blankets, umbrella, coolers, tableware and more. One car can be parked in garage but there is a steep drive leading to it. One additional car can be parked in the driveway; on-street parking is available.Read more

The house was very comfortable and well-appointed. The location was excellent providing easy access to both Carmel and Monterey. We enjoyed the house very much with only a few minor suggestions to improve the stay. The kitchen could use a little help. The cabinets are old and have been repainted several times leaving the drawers difficult to open and close. The only spices/oil available for cooking were salt, pepper, and olive oil (typically, most homes I've rented for vacation have had a fairly large selection of spices, cooking oils, and other cooking accoutrement). Lastly, the garbage disposal in the sink got clogged with food generally easily processed by this appliance, it appears from the sound of its operation that it is old and lacking sufficient power to perform as necessary. Outside of the kitchen, the house was fantastic with a beautiful deck surrounded by magnificent pine trees and nice viewing corridor to the ocean. We had a wonderful time in Carmel and the forest hideaway made the stay fantastic.
We planned a last minute stay in Carmel with some out of town family, and were able to find this phenomenal home literally an hour before our requested stay. Sanctuary Vacation Rentals was very courteous in the rental process, during our stay and post-stay. They were able to have the home ready for us in time, and the home was very well furnished and well stocked with supplies for our use and comfort.
I was also very impressed with the manner in which they dealt with a small internet issue that came up. The caretaker of the property was extremely understanding, helpful and cognizant of our needs. Overall one of the most seamless vacation rentals I've ever experienced.
