We had a great time at the rice house. We have two small boys, 2.5 yrs and 1 yr old. The house was well appointed and relatively easy to baby proof by Tahoe standards. The bedrooms were big and the deck was awesome. We love this neighborhood- a short drive from the dog beach and paddle boarding, and centrally located between Tahoe city and longs beach. We were even allowed to check in early on Saturday. The only complaint would be that the grill was really dirty- there was a pile of soot in the bottom and stuck to the diffuser bars. The rental people told me to burn it off, but the soot had already been burnt to death. So I scraped the diffusers under the grill and scooped out the soot. After that it worked great, but it was a minor annoyance that it wasn't at least reasonably clean when we showed up.

This was a great experience for my husband and myself, our 3 spaniels, including my parents. It was very comfortable and cozy; the towels and bedding very clean. The kitchen was chock-full of all necessities to cook. We brought a doggy gate for one area of the deck which worked out so well to confine our dogs while they enjoyed laying in the outdoors, thanks to a tip from a previous post! We didn't care about the features that others described as outdated. Everything functioned well. We definitely will be back.
The cabin functioned very well and suited our needs to a T.

The cabin layout is very accommodating and functioned well. It was very quiet and reasonably located near the pool, tennis courts, and lake beaches.
While not a hindrance, improvement could be accomplished by sweeping decks, repairing towel rack on shower in lower bathroom and replacing carpets.

If you enjoy taking your pups on vacation with you, this is a great place to consider. The place has everything you need from towels, to dishes, and even different types of seasonings. Would recommend bringing a baby gate to close of the porch openings, if you do not want your pup accidentally running into road, or after anyone, or other pups. We used the dog crate, and it worked great! The dog beach is awesome!! The BBQ also worked great and was left cleaner than it was for us. ;) Let's all remember to clean up some after ourselves so we can keep getting these great prices! :) Would recommend realty company check cleaning. Many cobwebs on things such as hallway lights, and maybe a good carpet shampoo for old stains. Other than those little things, everything else was great!! Thank you!!!

We took the residents in our adult Residential Care Facility on vacation and stayed at this home. The cost of the home was on the lower end of all the homes we checked out online. If I would have known that that meant the cooking utensils, pots and pans, & dishes would look like they came from a garage sale I would have looked elsewhere for our 5 day stay. The style of the home looks dated in the 70's and the carpetting was in need of a deep cleaning as there were 2 large dark spots at the sliding glass door and in one of the downstairs bedrooms. The master bedroom mattress has 2 major body dents which causes extreme discomfort when sleeping. There weren't even enough matching glasses to set the table nicely for a meal. There should have been more towels and washrags available. One kitchen towel was all I could find. No blender was available, as I was told it would be on the necessary list of items. Massive phone calls (11 in one day)from the phone company trying to reach the owner to pay the bill. The wifi was fantastic! There is a .22 (guessing) bullet hole in one of the main windows. The railing and gate on the outside deck is very loose and I was afraid to let people sit out there. The linens were very nice and the housekeeping lady was very kind. The office staff at agate Bay were wonderful. The swimming pool area was nice, relaxing and very clean. The leather furniture was ok and the dining table was big and sturdy. I feel the owner needs to fix the items I've mentioned and then the next person won't feel taken advantage of. The location is perfect.
Thank you for letting us know about the fan in the bathroom being loud. Since your recent stay we've replaced the fan (it was not functioning properly; hence the noise), and separated the fan's switch from the light's so you can have the light on without having to turn the fan on, too. Thanks again for letting me know about that. Please let me know if there is anything else we can do to improve the experience at the Rice house, because that was the only note on your form. Thanks!

Perfect Carnelian Bay area location- convenient to many activities. House is appointed with all the necessary basics (but we didn't cook, so kitchen is not rated here). Lots of outdoor living space/seating options on two decks. Very friendly neighborhood; virtually everyone smiles and waves. We appreciate that the owners allow dogs. Thanks to agate Bay for their good services!

The Rice house was decent. Not as updated as many of the other homes we've stayed at over the years. The location was great, but almost all homes are ideally situated on one way or another. The two decks were a great feature for getting away from the kids, or chasing the sun or shade. One negative was the almost inoperable dryer (we tried drying some bathing suits for over 3 hours but they never got less than damp). Not a big deal in and of itself, but where it did come into play is that all the bath towels in the house had that musty odor towels get when they never get clean and fully dried. It drove my wife crazy, so much that we started using our beach towels. Oh yeah. And we had a bear break in to the cabin the first night. We left no food out or anything. It just decided to break into a big window by the front door. The realty office was OK in dealing with it, though very very very slow. I lost a whole day waiting for them to board up the window. Thank you for letting us know about the dryer. We were not aware that is wasn't functioning properly. In the future please do not hesitate to let us know about any issues you're having, as we would be able to address them during your stay. I'm sorry we weren't able to replace the window during your stay; it isn't possible to have someone measure, cut, and install a custom piece of glass n such a short period. But we were able to have it boarded up that same day. Thank you again!
Nice but some issues

When we first arrived, we were pleased with the layout and location of the house. It is definitely less expensive than others in the agate Bay area which is great. But we did encounter a few problems. In the downstairs, both bedrooms are missing screens on the windows which was a bummer since it was august and a lot of bugs were coming in. Also, the DVD player did not work which was a huge issue for us because of the kids. We did contact the rental office about both issues and they were very helpful. They replaced the DVD immediately and were sending out a repairman for the screens, Unfortunately, the guy came toward the end of our stay to measure and never came back to replace them. Not sure if that ever happened. Also, the house had an ant problem. We will definitely be back to agate Bay but will probably look at renting a different house.
It is only a 2 person kitchen, and there is no place to store groceries besides the refrigerator. The table only sits around 6. Basically the whole gathering areas are too small for 9. We had 7 adults and one infant and felt crowded. There were a lot of broken things in the house (front porch light didn't work, screen in downstairs window missing, shades in upstairs fell out every time you tried to open/close them, toilet upstairs didn't flush correctly, broken chair upstairs which fell over when my daughter-in-law sat on it, the foos ball table is 1/2 size and you have to sit on the ground to use it (it also didn't have any balls when we got there, so you couldn't use it anyway), also one of the beds had a problem. I think Agate Bay Reality should do a better job on the walk through, as they probably could have found and fixed most of the issues. When I told them about it, they did send someone over to fix the shades and we found the screen and that got fixed. It was nice to have the pool and pier privileges and the washer and dryer. Also it was nice to have the fans to cool the place off at night. Overall I was expecting a place that could handle 9, but it really should be rated for 6 at the very most, even though it has beds for 9. I feel that I paid for a 9 person home and didn't get what I paid for. Read more
We are sorry to hear the Rice home didn't work for your group. The home does accommodate 9 people but not at the dining room table. The owner has replaced the window covering in front of the sliding glass door with a newer more durable one. We still haven't found any issue with the upstairs toilet however. Thank you again for staying at the Rice home.
Good value - some details could use attention

We enjoyed the stay - location is great and the house accommodated well 8 adults. The house itself is comfortable, furniture and amenities, appliances were solid, but were showing signs of age. Also few details were off: fussball table was broken, one of the blinds was on the floor, and one of the bathroom doors tended to lock in with people inside - took some real work to get them out. Overall, we enjoyed the house but would probably look for a different property next time. Read more
