Our experience renting Moonshadow was top-rate. The booking process was seamless and the owner has simply thought of everything from a-Z.
Moonshadow is charming and hidden in a perfect spot practically built into a dune. It was an incredibly romantic and magical experience and we would go back in a heartbeat. Moonshadow and the beach were immaculate, gorgeous & private. What a wonderful break from life this experience was! -

My husband, 2 kids and I spent a week at Moonshadow during late July. We fell in love with the house upon arrival and it only got better throughout the week! Like the other guests, the cantina was our favorite place to play, cook, eat and relax! The rest of the home was clean, well maintained and perfect for our 4 person family! The beach was lovely, quiet, clean and great fun! Thank you for letting us stay in your home! We felt relaxed, refreshed and at home away from home.

What a wonderful time we had at this beautiful home! Rufus and his wife have truly thought of it all! This home is so relaxing and has everything you could want or need! I truly didn't wear shoes all week! It is a short walk to the beach and not too far from town! The house is secluded behind dunes but has a wonderful view of ocean! We saw many horses and dolphins daily! If you. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, you will not find anything more perfect! Rufus is very thoughtful and accommodating! We can not wait to go back!

We were fortunate to stay recently @ Moonshadow - what good luck for us! Simply said - this home is a beautiful dream vacation rental - right on the ocean yet a private retreat. Hard to add anything new to the glowing reviews earlier.
Moonshadow offers privacy, seclusion, lots of wildlife in the area - wild horses, pelicans, dolphins & foxes - to view,
and is a great location to get a full suntan as well. Lots of upgrades throughout the home. Everything you need for a memorable vacation is provided.
Owner (Rufus) was extremely helpful at all times. We were greeted by a personal note of welcome as well as a generously provided bottle of wine - thanks again Rufus. They were also very gracious when we overlooked checkout time - delaying the turnover for an hour - sorry for that.
Only challenge was the need for 4x4 and watching for traffic when walking the beach. We had no problems with either but some of the drivers go by fast and are not always paying attention. Police do patrol and did cite some violators.
Can't wait to return - lots of beach to walk - peace and quiet to read and enjoy the one your with. In sum - a piece of paradise - highly recommended.

I'm not completely sure what more needs to be said. The house itself was absolutely picturesque. Basically, if you've ever seen one of those movies where the actors steal away to some beach house to get out of town for a bit and stand, sipping coffee out on the deck in the morning while staring into the ocean with this enviable look of satisfaction, you understand what this house is all about. In fact that is this house. Add to that the fact that the owner keeps it immaculate and provides you with all manner of information to ensure you take full advantage of the amenities and you have what they call in the business a "no-brainer”.
This is the best house in the 4x4 area, period.

We just got back from Moonshadow (there 5/14-5/21) and the house and the owners are the perfect combination. I was nervous because I have never rented from a private owner before but Rufus was an excellent communicator and really a joy to deal with . . .the house is amazing, especially the Cantina (the pictures do not do it justice). The drive up the beach was the perfect distance, we were secluded in our own little oasis but minutes from the paved road and driving on the beach was not an issue at all. We took our 4WD Yukon and it handled the sand with ease. Even though we didn't have the best weather, the house made up for it...ocean front views and two large decks...we got to watch the ponies, the pelicans and even had a visit from the family of grey foxes that must live under the deck...nothing like watching little fox pups play around two feet from your window! I highly recommend and we'll definitely be back...

A week at Moon Shadow is the perfect prescription for relaxation. My husband and I were fortunate to discover the Baldwin's wonderful hiding place. It is the quintessential Outer Banks home that affords privacy with direct ocean access. The home has every possible convenience and is extremely clean and very well maintained. We felt immediately at home when we arrived and it was very hard to leave at the end of our stay. It is far enough away to afford solitude but only a short drive to very good restaurants, grocery stores and historic sights. You can lose yourself in activity or do nothing. You can stay connected or ditch your smartphone and give yourself permission to relax. Either way, your stay at Moon Shadow will satisfy all of your requirements for vacation. We cannot wait to return!

Our vacation august 2011.
We will never forget this nice house in the outer banks.
We had great success and saw wild horses and dolphins.
Rufus send us detailed arrival informations. This informations helps us to find the house very easy.
The location is outlying close to the waterfront with a great view to the ocean side. Inside all rooms are lovely nice and cozy. The BBQ room is man's best friend. You'll find all necessary equipment to grill the best steaks.
The service was great and every think was organized perfect.

We had a fantastic time at "Moonshadow" and would recommend to everyone. The Cantina rocks and the house is very comfortable and really quite easy to get to. We were outside all the time or in the Cantina. The beach was marvelous and great to drive on - no worries at all as long as you have 4wd - it's hard to get stuck. Just be aggressive and you'll be fine. We really had a great time and created many family memories and the kids had a great time. It's a beautiful setting and the horses came to visit and we could see fireworks off in the distance. The town of Corolla is lovely and the entire trip just worked out great! Thank you Rufus and Linda!

I have just returned from a week in Carova staying at Moonshadow. This house is beautifully maintained. It is in the perfect location...right on the beach...other houses not too close at all so there is plenty of privacy. Plus the way the house is tucked into the dunes makes you feel like you're all alone in your private getaway. The Cantina is absolutely amazing and adds so much to feel of the house. We spent almost every meal out there and definitely every evening was stretched out to the utmost so we could enjoy every minute. I will be back for sure!!! Thanks so much Rufus for helping us have the perfect vacation! And for sharing this wonderful place.

What a fantastic retreat we had! Moonshadow is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, a family vacation or even just a group of friends looking to reconnect. The cottage was well equipped and comfy. I especially loved the outdoor kitchen...great for entertaining! The Master BR is very private with a fireplace, awesome views and a great master bath with a tub designed for soaking. There is also a loft where you can curl up with a book or a cocktail and just relax. Or, if you prefer, you can choose the hammock on the porch! And, you can't beat the location...right on the beach! We watched the horses meander along the water at sunrise, and watched the sunset in the evenings from the rooftop deck. The only hardship was having to leave at the end of the week!!
