Idyllic private pool, patio and panoramic views

Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Casa Elanor provides comfortable accommodation for a family and has a gorgeous large patio and pool area that enables you to maximize your enjoyment of the lovely andalucĂan weather and panoramic views of the Guadalhorce Valley. The pool and patio areas are private and not overlooked. Eryl and Roland are on hand to provide advise on local amenities assist with problems in the unlikely event these occur. Here you can be sure of a good value for money holiday in what is undeniably the 'real' Spain.

Great accommodation & location was spot on for climbing

Left on 04/23/2012 for a stay in December 2011

We stayed at Casa Elanor over Xmas 2011. There were just the two of us so Eryl gave us a really good price for the 9 days we were there. There was even a tree & Christmas presents waiting for us when we arrived.
Really impressed with the accommodation, loads of space, well equipped kitchen, gas heater & two bathrooms.
For us it was just about the perfect location to get to climbing areas around El Chorro, Turon, Desplomilandia in 20-30 minutes.
Our one regret was that we didn't bring more people with us to enjoy the place & fill the house up a bit. Plenty of room for six people inside & with the pool & outside bar you would have space for a large group to chill out.
The weather was brilliant so we climbed every day & were totally shredded by the time we came home.
When we go back to the El Chorro area we’ll be booking through ardales Village again, I can’t praise them highly enough. Many thanks

Ideal location for climbing - good service at a reasonable price

Left on 04/22/2012 for a stay in April 2012

I have nothing but good things to say about this villa and the owners. Through bad planning on my behalf we arranged to arrive on a Sunday forgetting that, outside of the tourist areas, Spain is closed on a Sunday. I called Eryl on Saturday afternoon to confirm arrival times etc, she reminded me that the supermarkets would be closed and offered to get some shopping in for us that afternoon so we'd have food for dinner and breakfast. The property and it's grounds are bigger than anywhere we've stayed before and the younger (under 30) members of our group enjoyed the table tennis and badminton facilities whilst complaining it was too cold in april to use the lovely pool. On our return home my son discovered that he'd left his wallet, bank debit card and DS in the draw in one of the bedrooms, we contacted Eyrl and the items were back with us before the end of the week. Casa Elanor and the other properties in the village are ideal for climbing trips to El Chorro and the surrounding crags although you will definitely need a car. On one wet day we visited the local caves and I would recommend them to anyone provided you are reasonable fit and mobile. We stayed at another of Eryl's properties last year but needed a bigger place this year. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others and will be returning.

Villa was ok, service was a nightmare

Left on 03/17/2012 for a stay in February 2012

We had our vacation spoiled because we had to leave villa Casa Elanor (owned by ardalesvillage.com) in the middle of our stay and we lost almost all day looking for another accommodation.

About us: we are rock-climbers and the goal of our visit was to climb in El Chorro area. There were 5 of us, all around 30-40 years old. By profession we are partly scientists, partly from it industry, and we all travel a lot.

The amount of good reviews about the ardalesvillage.com and a good price for the villa made our decision to stay in Casa Elanor for the dates of February 15-22nd, 2012. The directions to the villa were very clear, we got there from the Malaga airport without any troubles. Owners Eryl and Roland met us upon our arrival, showed us the villa, and mentioned should we have any troubles or requests we shouldn’t hesitate to call. The condition of the villa was ok, considering the price we payed we didn’t expect too much. So the broken heating in one of the bathrooms wasn’t big a deal for us.

We were thrown out of the villa on the 3rd day of our weekly stay, which we payed for on the first day of arrival. The reason we were asked to leave the property is that we were calling the owners too often asking too many questions. Eryl and Roland came into the villa on the Saturday morning (25.02.2012), and once they entered the door they started to shout at us loud that we should get away out of their house. Our fault was that we were bothering them too much, which was not the case for all previous guests for many years. We were suggested to return all money we payed for the rent, but we should have left the house immediately.

The amount of our phone calls during 3 days of stay: we called to ask about Gas system couple of times. Also we called once to get some more wood for the fireplace as it was very cold that days. On Saturday morning we had issues with the bathroom, so we called the owners in order to fix. After that call the owners came into the house and started to throw out our staff. The owners had no complaints to our stay other than us calling them too often.

We left the villa and stayed in one of the El Chorro hotels closer to the climbing area (La Garganta), with a spectacular view to the lake.

If you don't want your travel to be spoiled by the type of service provided I would advice not to stay in the Villa Elanor.

Ps attached is the photo of the dead mouse in the villa pool.

Response from Eryl Higham - 04/24/2012

      Eryl Higham

      Owner

      Interesting “review”!!
This group of Russians do state that they came to us because the price was good and we have a lot of good reviews- (If anyone were to do a little research, they would find that we have the highest positive rating on all climbing sites for accommodation available in this region)
They go on to say that the villa was “Ok”, the directions were very clear, we welcomed them on arrival, what they liked best was the location(it is beautiful) and the price(they paid 300€ for a wk), yet they score us a “zero” for all these things!!
We also were scored zero for cleanliness and comfort, although there were no comments at all about these aspects of the property.
In light of this I would expect any un-biased reader to be rather dubious about this so-called review- it is no such thing- it is a blatant attempt to try to discredit us – they demanded 1000€ from us otherwise they promised to destroy our business.

Their dissatisfaction was actually only about the service, to which I would like to respond.
We offer high quality, good value self-catering accommodation (we do not advertise and neither do we offer a 24hr service- this would be impossible-we manage over a dozen properties, and this is the only group we have ever had who expected this is be provided. There is however, an extremely comprehensive booklet at each of our properties, explaining how everything works and we pride ourselves on our customer service- we do say “do not hesitate to contact us if you have a problem” and we always do our best to help resolve problems or offer advice about this area.
We also try to attend at least once during a person’s stay to make personal contact..
It is possible that there is a language problem, but in our 7 years in this business no-one has ever before taken the phrase “do not hesitate to call us” to mean literally-
“Call us 6-7 times throughout the night, every night “- this is what this group did for 3 nights running.
In addition to a guided tour on arrival when we explained how everything worked, we attended 3 further times and, as stated by them, the only actual problem was that one of the 2 bathroom heaters was not working.
On the 4th day, I switched on my phone at 9am to see I had another 7 missed calls. (By now, I was switching off my phone during the night).
I immediately phoned them to establish what the problem was and was categorically told that there were no problems.
One hour later I received a further phone call demanding we attend immediately as one of the 2 toilets now did not work.
We attended, checked the outside drains to ensure there was no blockage and then asked them what the problem was with the toilet.
We were told it did not flush.
My husband pressed the flush and it worked perfectly!!
At this point we told them we were sorry but we could no longer cope with the level of their demands and they were asked to leave WITH A FULL REFUND.
This was not good enough for them, they said they wanted to stay and as they would not find any other accommodation for a comparable price.-they were correct about this!
When we insisted they leave, as I mention above, we were threatened that if we either did not let them stay, or pay them 1000€ in addition to giving them a full refund they would ensure they destroyed our business.
As for the photo of a dead mouse in the pool- it was not there when they arrived. The pool was spotless and during the winter months as we do not actually expect people to swim, we do not clean the pool during a person’s stay. - A net is provided should they wish to use it to remove debris. - As you can see from the photos the water is crystal clear- not many villas would bother cleaning pools at all during February as they are unusable.
Whilst objective reviews are a useful guide for future guests to make a decision about a property, I am in agreement with the large number of other property owners who feel that trip advisor should be doing more to “vet” reviews written with the sole objective of ruining someone’s business.
This is clearly an attack on us personally and not a review of the facilities or property being advertised.
I would suggest guests also look at the reviews for Villa 4 Vientos, Carratraca and Casa Eryl, Villa Torres and Villa José- all in Ardales and all of which are managed by ourselves and in which we are complemented about our excellent service.
