Left on 06/13/2013 for a stay in June 2013

We have recently came back from fools haven cottage and its safe to say we could have happily stayed another weeek. The cottage was lovely and each room was very clean and had its own personality. Alison and Robbie were so welcoming and couldnt do enough to help us. I especially loved the roll top bath but the winner for all of us was the bbq hut set outside with its lovely decked area and flowers. The children especially loved the two storey wendy house too. There was everything we needed from kitchen utensils to bath towels & Shampoo. Our welcome tray with locally sourced cheese, chocalte & honey and fresh bread was yummy and just added a touch more of a warm welcome than we already had. Will definitley be booking again next year. We all had a fab time. There is also so much to do within the surrounding of the cottage with the beach just a short walk away and the town centre with Carrick Castle too to visit. Thankyou again xx

Robbie and I are so pleased to receive your review of your experiences while staying at Fools Haven - how you enjoyed both the outside and the inside space - and that the lasting memories will bring you back again. That means a lot to us - because that is exactly why we do what we do - we want to share this part of the world with you and others. And in turn we are fortunate enough to have memories too that we can think back on.

My wife and I planned to take our grandaughters over to Carrickfergus to visit my wifes relations, its a pigrimage we do every year. This year was a happy and sad occasion .The happy one was,my wifes aunt's 83 Birthday , and the sad one again was my wife's uncle's ashes internment at the Milltown Chaple in Castlerock Coleraine. Both went well and then it was down to business by vistiting various tourist venues like Giants Causeway, Carrick-De Ried Rope Bridge,Derry -Londonderry - Belfast, and relations. The best best thing I done this holiday was to book Fools Haven Thatched cottage . It was in a prime location for us to do what we needed to do plus Robbie and alison were fantastic host's. We will definatley be back.

Foolshaven, Boneybefore. A gem of a find. By Chance??

Left on 05/21/2013 for a stay in May 2013

This was a trip that had to be special. Dads are only 70 once & mine wanted to see the Titanic exhib since it opened plus he loves Ireland. I have always been fascinated by the tragedy & have seen 3 exhibs in other places. After looking for accomm for us all I settled on a hotel & tried to book, I tried & tried but the PC was having none of it & I could not. Exasperated I looked on & there it was (Boney)before me. A perfect cottage & with a Titanic connection. Perfect. Enquiries made(& answered swiftly)I booked it.
I could not have asked for more. The cottage is perfect, the welcome so friendly & the facilities want for nothing. I also bought Dad the Two Pennies book which tells the sad tale of the connection between cottage and tragedy (we had all read it by the time we got there!)
This place was meant to be, it has everything we wanted, cosy comfort, location, facilities & a suprise in the garden which I wont spoil.
Alison could not do more for her guests including recommending Ownies, a local eatery which serves local fish & food at great value. The welcome tray is stunning & just what you need after travelling. All 5 of us were very impressed & very thankful to who ever stopped the PC working & guided me to this site (Mr Millar maybe?)
The location is ideal, so easy to get to from the airport (city) and perfect for exploring. We did the Titanic quarter, a bus tour of Belfast, drove to the mountains of Mourne, crossed the rope bridge and climbed the Giants causeway all in a long weekend. The coast route is amazing, we know a good coastline when we see one (we live in Cornwall) & this is stunning.
All in all this is no Fools haven, just a perfect haven for the traveller that knows a good thing when he/she finds it.
We found it but who guided me to it??

Happy Travellers. Rope Bridge Survivors War Memorial & Carrick Fergus Castle Ownies, great food, great value, warm welcome. Titanic Connections

Hi and thank you for the story….. oops, sorry, review. Don’t know what you do for a day job – but you should be writing novels! We really enjoyed reading how you settled on booking with us. Things happen for a reason and it is not up to us to ask why, just accept you were guided here to celebrate your Dads 70th birthday.
Robbie and I are so, so pleased you all enjoyed your stay in Fools Haven – or as you called it a perfect haven – and we look forward to meeting you again.

      Welcoming and comfortable

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in May 2013

We received a warm welcome from alison and Robbie on arrival and shown around the lovely quaint cottage located near the sea but in a quiet location off the main road. The cottage was well presented and offered comfortable accommodation with everything we could possibly want to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing. A welcome pack of local produce was an especially nice touch.
We were staying as a couple so mainly utilised the downstairs only but had we been renting this some years ago when the children were small they would have been delighted with the loft bedrooms - an adventure. We didn't have opportunity to use the BBQ but this looked absolutely fabulous and would be a great way to wind down of an evening.
The property is located less than a 10 minute walk from a train halt, which took us directly into Belfast, saving us the hassle of busy roads and car parking. A short drive up the coast took us to some lovely scenery, walks and beaches. Carrickfergus is a lovely town with a small shopping centre and plenty of eateries. A visit to the castle is a must. We also visited the small museum, which gave us a good social history of the surrounding area. We found nothing to dislike and enjoyed the friendly welcome and attention from alison and Robbie, without any intrusion. Their accommodating attitude was especially welcome when we arrived back at 12:45 am having taken the wrong key with us and had to wake them up - Thank you alison and Robbie for a wonderful stay.

Hi guys and thank you for the review. Comments like yours about what to see, do and where to eat in Carrickfergus are so useful to help prospective guests make up their mind when looking for accommodation. It is also good for us to read and remind us how luck we are to have all these things a short walk away. The nearby train halt is so handy and a great way to get into the city of Belfast or even go further.

You mentioned picking up the wrong key, please do not worry, it has happened before and prob will happen again. I just feel sorry for you - seeing Robbie and I all bleary eyed when we answered the door!!!!

Keep intouch and we look forward to seeing you again. Best wishes, Robbie & Alison

Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013

I can't say enough about how comfortable we found the cottage, and how welcoming the owners, Robbie and alison. In our experience it is a very rare find that instantly makes one feel so much at home. It's that good ... when you finally return to your own, you may find you sigh 'ahhh home at last' with a little less conviction!
Our little girl Erin (nearly three) was very happy indoors and out, and even the occasional shower didn't deter the adventures to be had in Puffin's Perch cabin.
As a springboard for exploring the surrounds you couldn't find better, and the information at the cottage is a goldmine of ideas. There's so much to do we barely scratched the surface.
Of course the question is whether you can drag yourself out of the cottage to go adventuring.
We'll be missing it until our next visit!

You mentioned the occasional shower and it is important to have ideas for dry and wet days and to stay flexible, if you can, with your plans.

The barbeque place and the little playhouse were a great idea.

It's hard to recall a more unique property. The area, with historic Carrickfergus Castle, The Titantic Museum nearby and literally across the road from Darby Ranger Museum and andrew Jackson's parent's cottage..with the Giant Causeway as a backdrop is dramatic. The cottage manages to be both cozy and spacious (3 bedrooms), ultra traditional yet with modern conveniences (like color TV, a modern kitchen, 2 modern bathrooms, etc.) There is a well built deck "outback" for picnicing and a "warming hut" for cold spells -same wood. The master bedroom and the one other bedroom our family of 3 utilized were so comfortable -abetted by pillows we pronounced "perfect. The hosts-Robbie and alison- provide the extra measure of quality

Left on 03/30/2013 for a stay in March 2013

I actually booked this cottage for my friends from New Jersey, New York who were spending a few days in Northern Ireland after touring around Kerry. They could not believe their eyes when we drove up and were overwhelmed when we got inside! This little place is heaven, the comfort and the barbecue outside is just awesome! They said they had the best sleep since they arrived in Ireland and felt totally at home. Alison and Robbie went to great trouble to accommodate them and even got them a visit to the andrew Jackson Centre across the road. I would highly recommend this little Haven, you must see it to believe it!!!

Fools Haven was an amazing place to stay. The cottage is 5 stars without doubt, and the little personal touches keep you smiling every day no matter how long you are staying. The quality of the renovation is second to none and the BBQ hut in the garden is an absolute must try, regardless of weather... we did this in February with a daytime temp of 5deg C and had to open the window - a fantastic space to get your friends together and share the good times. Alison and Robbie are amazing hosts, second to none. They think of everything and could not have been more accommodating before or during our stay. This wonderful cottage is definite must do when visiting Northern Ireland.

The excellent, friendly and gracious hosts are close to hand on arrival to show you round and living next door available if any help needed at anytime.

      100% perfect, quaint cottage

Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We were coming to Ireland for a family wedding and needed to be near carrickfergus and Belfast...we honestly couldn't have chosen better.
The cottage not only looks gorgeous but is so well presented inside. Perfectly clean, perfectly equipped and very comfy beds.
We were warmly greeted, made to feel very welcome and left a wonderful tray of goodies.
It was the little thoughtful touches throughout the cottage that we liked, for example, handcream and tissues in all the bedrooms and the kids loved the iPod players.
The BBQ hut in the pretty garden is fab!

This cottage had a very warm welcoming feeling to it on first impressions. We were greeted by alison who was welcoming and friendly and give us a tour of the cottage. We were later joined by two friends who were staying with us and was plenty of room for us all as its very spacious. We ventured out into carrick on our first evening for dinner and to cinema. Its a very short distance from this cottage driving. The back garden is quite large and has a lovely decking area. It also has a playhouse which amused our nephews when we invited a few family members down. On this night we took full advantage of the BBQ hut (house). This went down extremley well with everyone and were we all spent the whole evening.

We were lucky enough to win this 3 night stay through a charity raffle. I can definitely stay we would love to return to this cottage as it was a home away from our own home. The hosts alison and Robbie are very welcoming and kind people.

Alison gave us a warm welcome and looked really well after us. The cottage is fantastic, well-equipped and very clean. Using the barbecue hut was a great experience. The street is quiet, shops and the train station are within walking distance, so is the beach (which is not very inviting).
The cottage is excellent, Carrickfergus is okay and looks as if it might improve.

What a fabulous holiday we all had. The children loved their quirky bedrooms upstairs with their own shower room and we enjoyed the peace and quiet downstairs. The outdorr faciliies are fabulous and we had 2 wonderful barbecues despite the weather being a little hit or miss - with the Barbecue house we could still plan to have the barbecue with friends and family visiting us for the afternoon. the children loved the Wendy house - Puffin Perch. Our party consisted of two couples traveling to Northern Ireland for 4 days on vacation.

I rate our experience with the Fools Haven folks as a #1 class act in customer value:

      - Prompt response to our original inquiries via email
      - A welcome package & very comfortable home
      - Providing a home with every conceivable amenity
      - Helping us plan & maximize our 4 short days in Northern Ireland
      - Following up after our vacation to get customer feedback

The home is comfortably designed for 1 couple and 3 singles. The backyard has both a child's play haven and adult entertainment Gazebo.

We had a very delightful stay. We will most likely return to Northern Ireland. The Fools Haven will definitely be on the top of our list for accommodation.

Hi and thank you for taking the time, on your return home, to review Fools Haven Thatched Cottage for other travelers and future guests. It was good to meet you all and you packed plenty into your stay in Northern Ireland. You made good use of the train – even though you had a car and the train trip into Belfast from Carrickfergus is scenic. It is also handy in that it delivers you into the centre of the City without the hassle of driving and the train fare cancels out any parking fees. Robbie and I look forward to meeting you again and please do not hesitate to ask if you require any help planning your next trip to this area. Best wishes from Alison & Robbie

Evelyn and I were blown away by this stunning cottage when we arrived.
Fools Haven was perfectly located for us, with family in Carrickfergus and in Larne.
The Cottage was very well presented, and the kitchen was great, and the fact it could sleep five was perfect for us, as we were able to entertain and have guests stay over.
Alison and Rob were perfect hosts, and nothing was too much trouble.
The welcome tray was a wonderful touch and was most welcome as we arrived late in the evening from an overseas flight, and presto we had all the bits we needed. Alison & Rob, the place is a credit to you both. We will be back.

The outdoor facilities (patio, barbeque hut and children's wooden house) are fantastic and certainly amused my 3 year old and my 35 year old! This is the second year that we have spent a week at Fools Haven Cottage and once again we had a great time. Alison and Robbie have built an amazing weatherproof BBQ hut in the garden and have enough seating on a decking area beside for everyone. For the kids there is a little play hut. We were able to invite relatives and friends for BBQ and had a great time. We have found that Fools Haven is ideally situated to get into Belfast and also to get up the antrim Coast a little. Carrickfergus Castle was also great fun for the Kids.

Left on 03/03/2012 for a stay in February 2012

Stayed here with friends for a few days. We had a great time. Location is great. 5 min walk to train station with frequent trains to Belfast city centre. Approx 1km walk to Carrickfergus town centre (castle/shops/restaurants). Also great starting point to explore up the causeway coast. Th cottage is located on a quiet residential road overlooking the sea.
The owners, who live nearby, are so helpful and pleasant to deal with. The house itself is a typical cottage. One comfy double bedroom downstairs and 3 single beds upstairs. One shower room and one bathroom. Warm and cosy sitting room for nights in. The kitchen is very well equipped and big enough to cook proper meals. It was nicely decorated and clean throughout. There was also a beautiful welcome tray of goodies left out for us on arrival.
I would highly recommend this cottage for a chilled out break in Northern Ireland.

We stayed in the Cottage over the weekend of the New Year celebrations. It was mighty cold that weekend but we were very toasty in the cottage. We received a very warm welcome from the owner and a lovely welcome tray of local goodies and homemade treats too. Alison was very relaxed with us and this was terrific as with two young boys 'exploring' every nook and cranny we were on edge! Alison recommended a local restaurant for us called Ownies in Carrickfergus and we had a lovely meal there on the first night. The portions were huge - even for the kids.

The Cottage is walking distance from the town of Carrickfergus where these is a fantastic castle which is really well worth a visit. Our lads are still talking about it. There was an Ice Rink up when we were there but it looked like a temporary set up. There are lots of restaurants, shops and pubs in the town and the walk is lovely along the sea front. We also visited the Ulster Transport Museum which we would recommend for young or old. I believe the Folk museum is also terrific but we didn't have time.

The Cottage is fully kitted out with every modern convenience and is exteremely comfortable.

We had no mobile phone signals while there, which was a wonderful respite for me but not so for my husband who was on call. Wifi would be a lovely perk.

Really cannot fault Fool's Haven. They thoroughly deserve their awards and I hope they do really well in the future.

The service was top notch, Alison was a star as we had arranged to arrive early and the plane was delayed, most embarrassing. We were greeted with a tour of the cottage and informed that we could contact our hosts at anytime. We then discovered the welcome tray which was thoroughly enjoyable, we ate everything. The cottage was located about a 20 minute walk outside the town and 5 minutes from the railway station which is a fantastic way to visit Belfast. The cottage is warm, well equiped and everything was provided including information on local places to visit, if we required further information we phoned alison who was most helpful. All in all a very comfortable and well appointed cottage but the best part was knowing that your hosts were on hand but were not at all intrusive.

A truly lovely place to stay in the North of Ireland

Left on 11/05/2011 for a stay in November 2011

The cottage is exceptionally well presented with very comfortable living spaces and bedrooms. It is decorated to a very high standard and has all the modern conveniences required for a long or short stay in the North of Ireland. The loving room is very cozy with a new oil stove but beware if you are over 190cm tall, you'll stoop a lot but it's well worth it!!

I traveled with my wife, son age 10 and daughter age 13, we all loved the cottage and would love to visit again sometime soon.

I have no hesitation is recommending Fool's Haven and we will be back, that I can guarantee.

What a brilliant place to stay

Left on 10/20/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We stayed at Fool's Haven while in N Ireland for a family wedding. My sister in law, who lives locally booked the cottage for us - and are we pleased she did!

Fool's Haven is warm, cosy and homely and alison gives an amazing welcome. We loved the tray with a range of lovely local delicacies and the whole ambience of the cottage.

It made a great base for trips out to the Bushmills distillery and the north coast, as well as a day's shopping in Belfast, complete with lunch in the Crown Liquor Bar. It was also the perfect place to chill out and recover in the Sunday after the wedding.

Just looking at the pictures on the website has made us feel nostalgic and we are already planning our next stay, hopefully next spring.

We would recommend Fool's Haven to anyone, it really is the perfect place to stay in Carrickfergus - a real home from home.

Thank you for choosing to stay at and for taking the time to review Fools Haven Thatched Cottage - potential guests find these reports useful and help with decisions on where to stay.
When deciding about what to put into the Cottage - we tried to think what our needs would be, when away from home, and we also listened to our guests and are glad that ‘small’ items like a multi charger proved so useful to you.
We love to hear about trips our guests make and it certainly makes me want to follow in your footsteps and have lunch, once again, in the Crown Liquor Bar, Belfast.
Please keep in touch about your plans for a Spring Break as we are looking forward to welcoming you back - a cup of tea is always available.

Left on 10/12/2011 for a stay in October 2011

We travelled to Carrickfergus for a family wedding and my sister in law booked Fools Haven for us and our two adult offspring. We couldn't have been more delighted and just looking at the pictures of the cottage here has made us nostalgic!

Fools Haven is warm, cosy, immaculately clean and superbly equipped - right down to the charger to fit any phone, including an iphone. Although the cottage is small, it was plenty big enough for four adults to share comfortably. On arrival we found a lovely welcome tray with an assortment of N irish delicacies and were able to have a very welcome cup of tea immediately.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay to the point where we are now looking for suitable dates for a return next spring so our offspring can see more of their dad's homeland. We are looking forward to returning enormously.

We five (41, 40, 36, 13, 8 years) had an amazing week in Fools Haven! It's really a wonderfull place. It's warm and cosy. The house is small but it is well equiped - everything is there. Alison and Robbie are very gentle people. We all felt very welcome. Everything in the cottage is like shown on the pictures in the internet - except the tv - it's a better one as shown (for the joy of the children) :-)
Fools Haven is a great base to see all the attractions of Nothern Ireland. We are really impressed of all the beauty of Nothern Ireland.
Definetly we come back some day!

We were warmly welcomed by the proprietors and received a very tasteful welcome packet with local products - very thoughtful and appreciated. We loved the cottage, the living-room is quite narrow but very cosy. It was very much home from home with little vases of flowers in all the bedrooms and bathroom and body lotion and hand cream. There was lots of storage space and it was warm! Ample shower and bath facilities. Everything has been well thought out, we had everything we needed and more. The location was perfect for us to visit family closeby and travel up the beautiful antrim coast and visit other sights. All amenities are very closeby in Carrickfergus. We really enjoyed staying in a real thatched cottage, even with links with the Titanic! We would love to come back!

The thatched cottage is fantastic, everything is thought of from the welcome tray to the overseas power adaptor, it is very clean and cosy, I stayed with my husband and three children under 10, they had a blast sleeping in the attic as they called it and want to stay there again, we are in Malta at the moment and they still talk about it. Everything is thought off even board games that we played when it was raining, highly recommended to all who wish to stay in true style.

      A hidden gem

Left on 04/24/2011 for a stay in April 2011

This was our first stay at Fools Haven, and hopefully it will not be our last. Our story is that we live in Canada, but our families all live in and around the town of Carrickfergus on the shores of Belfast Lough in Northern Ireland. We usually make an excursion home once a year to catch up on all the goings on. This year, we chose Fools Haven as our base, and we were delighted with our choice. The accommodation and facilities are exactly as described on the web-page, and the photographs are a very accurate representation of what you get for the very reasonable price paid.

      Pros are as follows:
      1. The cottage is situated on a mostly quiet street (see cons for one minor exception), with a very private back yard and sunny seating area (when the weather’s good!)
      2. There is easy access to the shore of Belfast Lough (via a short tunnel under the railway line – just follow the local dog walkers!). This is a fun place to poke around in rock pools when the tide is out
      3. The kitchen and bathrooms are very well equipped with just about everything a family would need to make themselves feel at home. The electric shower in the upstairs bedroom is great, and the breakfast bar in the kitchen is a nice place to eat breakfast/lunch.
      4. Alison and Robbie do lovely job of providing those small touches that make the cottage feel like a home – fresh flowers in the living room and bedrooms were beautiful, and the welcome tray was totally amazing and much appreciated.
      5. The cottage is really cozy, helped out by those 250 year old thick stone walls, and there’s something very special about staying in such a historic property.

      Cons
      1. There is a barky dog across the street that has the potential to be slighty irritating. Thankfully it only barks when someone walks past, and given that the cottage is situated on a quiet street, this is not a big deal.
      2. We’re loathe to put lack of internet access in this category, as we actually appreciated the opportunity to get away from work emails and 24/7 accessibility. It may be an issue for some people, but for us, enforced lack of connectivity was a blessing that meant that we were able to have a very relaxing vacation!

All in all, we had a fabulous time at Fools Haven, and cannot recommend the place highly enough.

We did consider internet access for the Cottage but decided against it, at this stage - as you say yourself it turned out to be a blessing and created some enforced relaxation! If guests require internet access it is available at the newly refurbished library in Carrickfergus.

Exactly what we needed and expected

Left on 03/30/2011 for a stay in March 2011

From start to finish, we enjoyed our interaction with alison and Robbie at Fools Haven; they made everything simple to organise and our stay was exactly what we were after...a quiet, peaceful weekend, staying in quality, clean accommodation, with access to the 'all mod-cons' expected in modern days...especially with two kids to keep entertained.
The 'welcome tray' of local food and home made 'treats' was a nice touch...and much appreciated, as it got our stay off to the right start! After a quick explanation of how everything worked...we soon felt at home...and it stayed like that till we left 3 days later.
Would strongly recommend Fools Haven to anyone looking to stay in an 'old cottage' but not with old decor or facilities...and although we were not tourists, this would be an ideal location to explore the antrim Coast with easy access to Belfast too.
If we needed to stay in this area again...would only stay if Fools Haven was available!

It was lovely to meet you all and hopefully it will not be long before you get time to take another break and visit Ireland. The February weather was not the best - hopefully next time there will be plenty of sun shine for Fraiser to explore the shore.

The friendly owners of this cottage live in an identical cottage next door and are available at all times if advice or assistance is needed. The cottage is immaculately furnished in a pleasing cottage style and is extremely well equipped throughout. It is very close to the Carrickfergus waterfront and is ideally located for exploring the North antrim Coast. Try the local Joymount arms for a great 'Ulster Fry' and small shops in nearby Whitehead for some good quality local produce.

Fools Haven was a dream cottage. It was just beautifully decorated throughout, incredibly well equipped and spotlessly clean. Robbie and alison were so friendly and helpful that we felt it was like a home-from-home. We cannot recommend the property highly enough; you will have a very enjoyable stay here in a beautiful part of the world.

From the get-go everything from booking through to getting there went smoothly. We were met by alison on arrival who was so welcoming and gave us a tour around the cottage which is so cosy, warm, nicely decorated and well kitted out.
We were a bit peckish when we arrived so the welcome tray was well appreciated.
Robbie was good enough to come into the cottage to give us restaurant recommendations after I texted them to suggest one for us.
The cleansing wipes in the bathroom came in really handy for removing our make-up after getting home very late!
All in all we had a great time in Fools Haven and will definitely go back there if we're in the area again!

5 Star Cottage Stay Highlight of Family Trip

Left on 01/11/2011 for a stay in December 2010

We booked the Fools Haven Cottage for 3 days in December on the back of positive reviews we read online, and it delivered on all it's promises. Easy to find in Carrickfergus, we were greated warmly by alison with a quick tour and a welcome tray with assorted snacks and drink. As a family of 5 we fit comfortably and were impressed with not only the cleanliness, but also the warmth and coziness of the cottage. Robbie and alison were very friendly and a great help with local knowledge of things to do and places to eat. Good location if you're doing Belfast or trips up the coast. Will definetly be staying here again when we return to the North!

Alison and Robbie were extremely friendly and welcoming. The cottage is small (but then there were4 of us) but really comfortable and well equiped. I'm from the town originally so knew where the cottage was and the local amenities. Coming from Dublin, Carrickfergus has a lot to offer families with small children t affordable prices. I loved the welcome we got and how alison made us fell so at home in the cotage. The only downside for us was that it was difficult to park a second car, but I don't see that being a problem for many people as most families only travel with one car (which can be parked right beside the cottage). :)

Fools Haven is a beautiful, perfectly maintained traditional thatched cottage. Our welcome was warm and Robbie was very giving of his local knowledge and advice. The cottage is right on the doorstep of some of the most stunning scenery in Ireland, but with the urban comforts of Carrigfergus and Belfast city right on the doorstep. The cottage was so comfortable and inviting we sometimes struggled to leave it.

5 excellent nights at Easter 2010

Left on 04/20/2010 for a stay in April 2010

Fools Haven provided us with the perfect stay for our Easter break. Making the booking was easy & we were able to keep in touch with our hosts as we got the boat to Larne. Getting there was no problem, the location being just off the main road into Carrickfergus & next to the Andrew Jackson Cottage which is signposted. We are a couple with a 2 year old child & like to travel light. This cottage had everything we needed & more. It was well equipped with a large bathroom & large shower room. The modern kitchen was big with a breakfast bar. The washing machine was very handy for the child after an accident during a rough ferry crossing. The bedrooms & living room were cosy but deceptively spacious. The building itself is unique & full of character with space for off street parking. The street was quiet while we were staying there even though it’s just a few minutes from the town centre with 2 major supermarkets. Very important when self catering (I don't want to be driving 10 miles just to get a pint of milk). And there's no shortage of things to do. We went for walks along the shore road & Cave Hill & visited Belfast Zoo, Transport Museum & Carnfunnock Park. And there's a multitude of other things to do in Belfast or up the Antrim Coast. The owners have put a lot of thought into making this a great place to stay which meant we enjoyed our break even more.

We received a complimentary Welcome Tray(unexpected) which included lots of goodies. Sausages, bacon, eggs and juice were in the fridge. The home had every convenience you could wish for, and more. The proprietors were extremely helpful and friendly (that famous Irish hospitality). We were five minutes from the train station and local shops. We could walk (approx. 20 mins.) to Carrickfergus Castle and all amenities. We highly recommend this "Gem".
