Do you know that home feeling? When you feel like your part of the house, that special energy of love and care, plus an air or exotic and style. This combination is difficult to find in a guest house.
We found there a small family: Marcus that was restless to answer all my questions, made sure that we are accommodated in the right room and we have all we need; among with his two sons; two friendly ladies that will cook delicious breakfasts, keep the place very clean, or even do your laundry!
All the rooms have different design with creative details that makes you say: I would like to paint my windows like that in my own house! :) Tip: We loved the open roof shower, ask if that room is available ;)

I travel and book all over the place. Everyone knows people and service make the difference! Marcus the owner made everything super easy and very comfortable. He is organized and efficient. I researched and checked against the big chains as well...Hilton, Hampton etc... Glad we chose to stay here, you will be too.

I was recommended to stay at Les Lezards by a close friend. She said it was beautiful, peaceful, perfectly located, and Marcus, the owner, treated everyone who entered like an old friend.
When entering through a small unmarked door near the heart of Getsemani, this hip, happening and upcoming neighbourhood, you walk in a white lush cool courtyard. Clean, bright rooms welcome you back after a long day on one's feet and a plunge pool on the roof in which to sip champagne (byob).
I recommend Les Lezards to those who want to stay in a truly wonderful home and leave what is quite a mad city, completely relaxed.

The place is clean, located in a nice area and the staff is beyond hospitable! Marcus and his staff were extremely friendly, very helpful when I had questions about the area and overall a pleasure to deal with. He was very responsive when I had questions prior to booking. The place is clean, modern amenities and still feels like part of the old city. I am very happy with my decision to rent from Marcus. I look forward to my return visit!

Left on 04/28/2013 for a stay in April 2013
This little guesthouse is situated very conveniently for access to the old town and all the historic buildings and great restaurants. The rooms are spotless with lovely linen and towels and are cleaned each day. Air conditioning, hot water, wifi, breakfast cooked to order, nicest staff, friendly tortoises, superb host - we loved it. We arrived too early for booking in and Marcus accommodated us and got us into our rooms as soon as possible. Then we needed to check out late as we had an evening flight. Again, despite being busy, Marcus kept us a room (and there were 8 of us!) so we could have the day in Cartagena and be able to shower and change before leaving. Included in the cost of the room is collecting travellers from the airport on arrival. We were already in Cartagena so they arranged to take all of us and our extensive luggage back to the airport for our departing flight. Nothing was too much trouble. Marcus will advise on places to eat, sites to see and provides maps wiTh directions. The guesthouse is small but is all that is needed for a city break - somewhere safe, clean, cool, convenient, friendly, with good facilities. Would recommend highly and would stay there again.

Left on 03/12/2013 for a stay in February 2013
Marcus is creating a special oasis atmosphere at his getaway "house" in the heart of Cartagena. He started with a great location, outside the Centro area, but within short walking distance of everything. A photographer by trade, he is combining his artistic eye with an obvious passion for design and aesthetic. Each room has its own theme, details of which are evident in the styles, colors, and decorations. We stayed in the "Mexican" room the first three nights, then got to experience the "African" room when we cancelled reservations at the last apartment we had booked soas to spend an extra three nights at Marcus'.
Being in the room felt like a sanctuary, relaxing and quiet, removed from the bustle on Cartagena's streets. There are also a couple of common spaces at the guesthouse. We were spoiled each morning by Manuela as she cooked us a filling breakfast of bacon and eggs, along with fresh fruit and smoothie's made from local tropical varieties. We made friends with other guests and spent time exploring the city with them, something that rarely happens in a hotel environment. Marcus himself is a rolodex of information on the city and surrounding areas. Simply by spending the time to point out things of interest and places to eat around town, he added immense value, arranging for taxi's and providing maps of the area as well.
He is also building a sustainable business from the bigger picture standpoint, buying supplies used at the guesthouse from local stores and thus enhancing the community. He is providing steady employment to his personel and treats them well. He lives at the house along with his two teenage sons, making himself available to his guests. Seeing him teaching his 17 year old the different aspects of the business, and watching his attention to detail as he personally works on the latest room renovation, is part of what makes his place special.

I stayed with four friends at Les Lezards in Cartagena. Pleasing five ladies is no small feat, yet each one of us was thrilled with his beautiful B&B;, and not least, Marcus himself. The rooms were beautiful, as was the shared space, and I could easily have enjoyed a day simply relaxing with a book at the B&B;, and enjoying the hospitality of Marcus, Epi and Manuela. If you are going to Cartagena, Les Lezards is perfectly situated - close to the action without being right in it. The square near the house has local entertainment nightly, and gives you a little flavor of Cartagena life.

The five of us in my group spent a week in Cartagena, staying at Les Lezards, and we were all entirely pleased. Marcus is the perfect b&b; host: friendly, helpful, personable, and easy-going; his staff - Epi and Manuela - were wonderful. Our breakfasts were delicious; our rooms were clean; our beds were comfortable. The location - just a five-minute walk from the center of the city - was perfect for us. I definitely plan to return to Cartagena and want to stay at Les Lezards again!

If you have picked Cartagena to travel good for you, you'll like this place is like havana Cuba but better kept, safe and warm, and if you haven't picked where to stay then look no farther, this is it. I stayed here for a total of 6 days, very clean, close walking distant from everywhere, if you'r not latino then usually your skeptical on where to stay in a latin country, but walking to and from the main areas in the city at any time is safe because of lighting, there's always people around so no danger of been alone in a dark alley, and Marcus the owner and the staff are very happy to help on anything and make your stay a wonderful one, i'm from Canada so i know safe and clean when i see it and i work in the hospitality industry so rest assure you'll enjoy your stay here, and don't be shy to try the bars and restaurant close by you'll be wonderfully surprise.

This lovely guesthouse was perfect for our time in Cartagena. It's incredibly charming -- we had a romantic stay, from the open-air shower to the private patio nook under the stars to the cozy bedroom filled with books, it was just about perfect.
Marcus was a wonderful and very gracious host -- super friendly and kind, pointed us in all the right directions, and just took great care of us in Cartagena. Thank you, Marcus! If you get a chance, be sure to stay here. Better than staying in the walled center as well -- this neighbourhood is much more charming and has got a more local vibe.

I stayed at Lez Lezard during the holiday season for 4 nights. After staying in the Old City for several nights and out in the Rosario Islands for a few days, I wasn't sure what to expect in the Gestsamni district. I wanted an opportunity to mingle more with the locals and get away from the crowds in the city center. I got what I wished for!
The location of this guesthouse is safe, quiet (except NY Eve - all the locals blare their music, just bring ear plugs and you are good to go!) and clean. Manuela and Eppie cook a full, delicious breakfast everyday and keep the place running. Rooms are small and nothing fancy, but comfortable. Ac and bed in my room rocked! The rooftop terrace and jacuzzi is a perfect place to relax with a book and a local cerveza. I especially liked the 2 resident gatos, including Foolhencio, the newbie...what a character! They had 2 small turtles roaming around as well.
Marcus, the owner, was very helpful. If you are a first timer to Colombia, his knowledge was invaluable. He arranged our airport transfers, a trip out to La Boquilla with his trusted taxi driver and a ride on a Chivas bus on NY Eve. I am still cracking up about how much fun that was! He is generous with his knowledge of local eateries, etc.
Cartagena was a fabulous vacation destination. Overall, a great experience! -

To start, Marcus, the house owner, is a doll. A warm smile in a faraway place.. The sweetness of his way imbues Les Lezards with warmth and openness. The entire decor is cute and meaningful to your location, with excellent quaint architectural detail. The roof jacuzzi/porch is the cherry on top. Manuela and Epi, the lovely housekeeping/cooking staff are delightful. You will be in the center of city nightlife. Try to make your way on foot. Rustic, and yet cozy. Whether you are traveling alone or with companions, this place is perfection.

I've stayed in all types of places, including in Cartagena. I frequently payed double and more for places that didn't offer half of the charm and hospitality that Marcus graciously bestows on all of his guests. The location in the heart of the Getsemani' section of the Centro Historico is perfect. The airport pickup and delicious breakfast topped off a truly wonderful stay and experience at Lez Lezards. Marcus and his entire staff could not have been more accommodating and gracious. Thank you, Marcus!

Les Lezards (LL) is a perfect spot for your stay in Cartagena . Marcus and all of his staff (Bifabia, Manuela et al) are absolutely charming people who make you feel at home. First impressions are lasting, and Marcus sees to it that is taken care of by sending his driver to greet you at the airport. This made our evening arrival into Cartagena stress-free and within minutes we were out exploring our dining options. Marcus is a long-time resident of Cartagena and can facilitate any travel curiosities you have. The rooms are cute, comfortable and clean. The house mascot is a gregarious turtle who is a well-mannered and most unique dining mate. I can't say enough about how normal Marcus and everyone at LL is. None of the pretentiousness of hotel stays. Ll is a really wholesome, down-to-earth place which I promise you'll enjoy. Don't miss an opportunity to stay @ LL while in Cartagena. I only wish I could've stayed longer. Que disfrutes de tu estadia a LL!!!

Definitely recommended. You will enjoy the cozy atmosphere and personality of each room (we stayed in most of them). The breakfast is amazing. The B&B; is located at walking distance from the Centro de Convenciones Cartagena de Indias, Clock Tower and the Ciudad amurallada. The neighborhood is still full of locals, so expect to find a truly caribbean-latin flavor around the hotel. The owner and the girls that help him are very warm, they will make you feel at home.

I had a wonderful experience with Lez Lezards from beginning to end. I contacted Marcus via email months before my reservation and he e-mailed me a great list of things to do/see in Cartagena to help me plan for my trip. His correspondence was prompt, informative, warm and professional.
Marcus arranged for someone to pick me up from the airport as well as a tour of the city upon my arrival. Lez Lezards is located in a very quaint, beautiful and safe area of Getsemani, Colombia. As a single, female traveler I felt very comfortable walking around the neighborhood on my own, even at night. Also, Marcus provides each guest with a small map, and often checks in to make sure you are getting around ok.
The B&B; itself is amazingly unique, clean, and welcoming. The staff are all very warm and helpful. I stayed in the Blue Room, a perfect cove to escape the Cartagena heat during the day. The room is equipped with an air conditioner and a great selection of books. Every morning a delicious breakfast of eggs, toast, bacon, fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, water, coffee and/or tea was prepared to my liking and every morning it was delicious.
If I am ever in Cartagena again I will not hesitate to reserve a room here. Excellent service with a warm family feel! -

Les Lezards is an incredibly comfortable and welcoming B+B in the heart of the Gestamemi neighborhood. Marcus was an excellent host - he was able to help us arrange for multiple day trips to the islands and was an excellent resource for answering questions we had about daytime activities, restaurant, shopping and nightlife in cartagena. The staff at Les Lezards were extremely kind and accommodating. We had dinner prepared for us one night and enjoyed drinks in the hot tub on multiple occasions throughout our three week stay. The breakfasts were excellent - fresh juices, coffee, eggs, cereals, and fruit every morning! I highly recommend this B+B and will definitely return on my next visit to Cartagena.

Stayed for a week in late March 2012 and found Les Lezards to be an oasis of calm in the midst of Cartagena. The staff were always friendly, courteous and accommodating. Marcus, the owner, went out of his way to offer tips and suggestions on restaurants, sights, and how not to overpay for taxis. When one of us was faced with a bad sunburn, he even went to the local store to buy us Milk of Magnesia and aguardiente, ingredients for a locally recommended concoction that soothes the pain of sunburn. We would definitely stay here again.

It's out of the bustle and tourist old center but only a five minute walk from every site in Cartagena. The biggest resource is Marcus. He picks you up at the airport which is very nice on your first day. He also will help you organize any sort of excursion (big and small) and is full of information about the city. We totally enjoyed our week in Cartagena. Marcus is a fantastic host and he has a beautiful home. Although our room was small, the "public" areas in the home are really comfortable. We really appreciated the dipping pool on the upper floor - lovely after a day of walking around town. (We also appreciated the a/C in our bedroom - Cartagena is hot and humid.) Anais, the cat, is beautiful (I always love a place with a cat) and there are also a couple of tortoises onsite. Breakfasts were wonderful - plenty of fruit, juice, coffee, eggs and bacon. (Loved the arepa con huevo one morning.) We really felt at home there.
We really enjoyed being in Getsamani - you're close enough to walk to the sites, but in a real neighbourhood. There are a couple of excellent and inexpensive restaurants nearby, as well as the Cafe Havana - the place if you want to go dancing. Marcus knows Cartagena well, and can give lots of advice on restaurants, places to see, etc.
I will definitely stay there again if I come back to Cartagena. -

The local are around the hotel is fine with lots of interesting local sites. The B&B; itself is nicely arranged and comfortable with lots of tropical plants. Rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed. Marcus is a spectacular host who is quite knowledgeable of the local area and goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable and convenient.

I was also concerned about committing to a private house situation site unseen. I got over my concern because Marcus is the most laid back, easy going guy you could ever hope to deal with. He is a wealth of information about Cartagena, answers his phone, responds quickly to emails, is totally low pressure, and is an honest and reliable guy. All of Marcus' descriptions of the property, neighborhood, and city were an under promise and over deliver situation all the way. He tells it like it is and lets you make your own decision.
Upon arrival, I was met at the airport by the house manager Efrain. Efra is as cool as they come, grew up in Getsemani, and is totally knowledgeable about the city and the neighborhood. He immediately made me feel at ease and gave me the lowdown about where to go and where not to go on a quick orientation tour of the neighborhood. By the end of my stay I felt that Efra was a friend.
Manuela, who runs the house by day, makes a mean cup of coffee, a delicious breakfast, and keeps the house spotlessly clean. She is as sweet as they come and totally dedicated to your comfort and happiness.
As for the house, as mentioned, it is kept very clean and is absolutely lovely in every way. It is quiet, but right near all the action, it is on a safe street, with neighbors on doorsteps throughout the day and night, and is extremely easy to feel at ease in. The rooms are comfortable and cool, the beds are just right, and the common areas are a delight. The kitchen is large and airy and amply stocked in case you want to do any of your own cooking.
To give you some perspective, you can walk to the clock tower from the house in less than 10 minutes. It is absolutely to tour by foot all of the main tourist areas of Cartagena from this property any time of the day or night. Getsemani is lived in and full of cool locals where you will get a feel for the life of the every day man in Cartagena. I couldn't recommend this neighborhood or house enough.
I hope this helps anyone contemplating a stay here. I can assure you, when I return to Cartagena, I'll be reaching out to Marcus again.
Enjoy! -

Woodbridge, Suffolkcharming house in great location

We had a great stay in this relaxed and slightly eccentric house. The friendly tortoises were a surprise bonus! The location is in a lively residential area with a small plaza and corner shops, about five minutes walk from the centre of Cartagena. The house is an interesting set up with a mix of indoor and outdoor areas, - the lovliest room is accessed by a ladder fixed to the wall, - no good if you have heavy cases or vertigo! The air-con was a blessed relief after several days without in Taganga, as was the plunge pool. The housekeeper cooked breakfast for us every morning and did our laundry. It is a very personal house filled with photos and things collected on the owner's travels.Highly recommended.

This is a lovely guest house with the full flavor of Cartagena. The home itself is an architectural gem, with unique rooms and multiple terraces for taking in Cartagena's spectacular sunsets and breezes. I especially loved the patio shaded with mango trees outside my room. The owner took care of my every need, from arranging a writing desk so I could do work to recommending a doctor for an allergic reaction. The onsite staff was equally helpful and welcoming. They met me at the airport, tailored my breakfast precisely to my preferences, and were on hand to make my stay comfortable in every way. I enjoyed staying here more than a hotel because there is access to the kitchen to cook meals and because you are able to have a more local experience staying in a residential as opposed to a touristy neighborhood. Markets, cafes, and nightlife are all in close walking distance, as is the charming Plaza Trinidad, where it's wonderful to spend an evening people watching. Yet the house itself is tranquil and quiet - a wonderful retreat from the bustle of Cartagena. Overall, this is an excellent value for such a convenient location, beautiful setting, and warm and friendly service.

My wife and I spent last fall in Cartagena and stayed at this cozy house in Getsemani. Comfortable, clean, safe and friendly staff at a very convenient price. The housekeeper is an excellent cook ! We miss her arroz con coco and fried pargo !
Cartagena is definitely amazing and you need more than a few days to fully appreciate it, especially if you go to the Rosario Islands. We'll be back soon.

Spent 5 day's in this fantastic part of the world and couldn't have enjoyed our time in Cartagena more. To top it off we had a fantastic stay at this property which was in a great location in Getsemani. To say I was sceptical about renting a property over the internet was an under statement but Marcus was very helpful and honest throughout. He ensured we knew everything about the property and most importantly the best bar's, restaurants and sight seeing options in the area. On arrival at the airport we were picked up as promised and at the house Manuela was a star making us great breakfasts every day and looking after all of our needs over the stay. The house is extremely quite, secure ,clean, comfortable, and has all the facilites you require to enjoy the stay. The jacuzzi is nice after a hot day exploring the streets as is the air conditioned bedroom. I would highly recommend the property and location.

On retournera. Merci !!! -

My two daughters and I spent our Easter vacations in Cartagena, a beautiful and exotic city, beyond all our expectations. We fell in love with the city and with this cozy and comfortable house. Each of us had a different room and all where charming and very comfortable. The housekeeper had every morning an amazing breakfast ready in the patio and always took care of us when we needed something in the house or during our daily sightseeing. The house is very well located and close to everything in town and at the same time it is very quiet and relaxing. The perfect place to rest after walking through Cartagena's hot streets !
Now, all our friends in Berlin want to go to Cartagena !!! Thank you !!

This was my first time in Cartagena and I completely treasure the wonderful time I had there. Staying at this house was awasome because it is located in a very convenient and beautiful part of the city, the service was great and I had all I needed there. It was very comfortable and cozy. The city itself is one of the nicest cities I've been to. I spent hours and hours walking around the historic center and never got tired. There is very nice restaurants and bars I'm sure you would also enjoy.

Every year our extended family does a large group vacation. We have done this all over the world and thus have had quite of experience.
This year has been by far one of the most memorable. Casa Getsemani did not dissappoint. It was most comfortable, from the arrival at the airport everything was taken care of in great detail, as they really paid attention to our likes and wishes. There was something for everyone. The location could not be better suited for our treckking independly or as a group. Although, it was hard to leave the wonderful compound at times.
The most peaceful yet charming place in Colombia. -
