      Amazing location & thoughful touches

Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013

My husband and I stayed here for four nights and absolutely fell in love with the place. Even though we were very unfortunate with the weather as an unexpected cold snap covered the mountains, we still had a great time.

The retreat is in a stunning location, high above the incredibly picturesque village of Casares. The fantastic views and complete peace and quiet instantly made us feel relaxed and about as 'away from it all' as you could get. Ddg has great facilities with a perfectly heated pool, a gym which is small but well equipped for the size of property, sauna and steam room. The house we stayed in (Casa Olivo) was very roomy (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room and kitchen) and was well equipped with TV, DVD, coffee maker, etc.

We ate in the restaurant on one night and had a lovely meal with great wine in a very cosy, romantic setting.

Finally, the service was exceptional. Sasha and Olga were incredibly warm and welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had a perfect holiday. The whole property is their labour of love with hundreds of antiques from their worldwide travels adorning every corner and their passion for their new venture shines through. We'll be sure to return.

Thanks you soo much to the owner of this peaceful and wondeful place who are very kind, attentive and class. We were in DDG Retreat in april 12 and we spent 5 days having a rest, enjoying the beautiful swimming pool and garden of our villa. We enjoy of course the lovely and technical golfs courses around. We stayed in the DDG Retreat for dinners also and the owner is a very good cooker in a romantic, exotic and lovely restaurant. It's the paradise.

What a unique & special hidden away dreamy hotel DDG Retreat is.
5 stunning individually designed houses, some with plunge pools, beautiful day beds & stunning views. The main pool was gorgeous with a view out onto the mountains. There were books, Dvds, CDs to borrow & take back to our villa. We used both the hammam & sauna. Breakfast & dinner were absolutely delicious. After 3 days of total relaxation, we were extremely sad to leave & will return!

Left on 04/19/2013 for a stay in April 2013

This is a most private and blissful retreat. It is a step ahead from the big luxury resorts in that it is small, intimate and family run. The hosts alex and Olga make you feel instantly at home and well-looked after, very caring and thoughtful. Yet they are totally unintrusive and will only see to you if you buzz them from the communal area (in which case they come almost instantly). The location is superb - within an hour of Malaga airport, 15 mins of a long sandy beach (with fantastic seafood taverna called La Sal), 2 mins from the picturesque village of Casares with lots of rustic ventas nearby and yet completely hidden on its own high up a mountain track with the most wonderful views. Perfect if you want to just sunbath on your casa's terrace or relax by the infinity pool without hoards of people around. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

A wonderful relaxing way to spend your honeymoon

Left on 01/13/2013 for a stay in October 2012

Ddg retreat is a wonderfully quiet and secluded resort that you feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. It is a little difficult to find, but the family are very hospitable and look after you extremely well. There is a lovely heated pool with a sauna and steam room in the communal areas as well as your own little garden (we had a plunge pool). You are very much left to get on with your holiday in private but with the knowledge that if you need anything, the team are just a short walk away. I would also recommend the breakfasts - they are amazing - they keep you going all day!

      Lovely Stay

Left on 01/02/2013 for a stay in September 2012

We had an amazing time at the retreat and would like to thank Olga and Sasha for such a lovely experience. After travelling andalucía for 2 weeks, it was a perfect location to relax and enjoy the 4 days we had left of our holiday. We were arriving to Estepona by coach and arranged with the owners daughter to be picked and dropped off at a reasonable price (I believe 30-50 euros). We arrived at the retreat with a warm welcome and was shown around by Olga. When we came back to our room, music was playing and these little touches made the experience worth every penny. We stayed at Casa Cipres and was amazed by the standard of quality and attention to detail of the room decor. This room was higher up than the others, which meant one of the greatest views from the retreat – we could even see Gibraltar and Morocco in the far distance.

The sun was shining everyday, which made the retreat even more desirable. We made the most of the retreat facilities and enjoyed the sauna/spa, tennis court and relaxed by the pool with drinks during the day (we didn’t attempt to use the gym facilities on such a relaxing holiday).

If you visit the retreat, I would advise that you take the breakfast option, it is not one to be missed. We also booked a dinner night where the food was cooked by Olga. The romantic setting and lovely food was out of this world – I especially enjoyed the spicy prawn starter. However, be aware of the large bugs during the night, one crawled up my leg during dinner. However, this added to the element of being up in the mountain and it did not ruin the setting of the meal in any way, instead added to my boyfriends hysterical amusement of me screaming.

We also walked to the local village of Casares a couple of times, which had a real Spanish culture attached to it. It is definitely worth a visit during sun set but don’t forget to take a torch with you for the walk back.
Highly recommended for couples as a romantic and intermit getaway.

Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in October 2012

I have finally managed to sit down and write a few words about our very special stay at DDG Retreat in the first week of October. We only had 5 nights in our very busy work schedule so my husband and I were so happy to find this very secluded and private place - absolutely ideal for workaholics like us. The surrounding is so peaceful and the natural setting of exotic gardens and plants together with breath-taking views, really does create an amazing ambience. We have stayed at the beautiful Casa Olivo, would really recommend to go for this Casa if you wish to have a lot of space and enjoy the views. Absolutely worth every penny!:)

My wife and I have decided to take a last minute trip to Spain at the end of October to get the last few days of sunshine and we were lucky enough with the weather. We have chosen to stay at this private and beautiful Retreat owned by a very warm couple Olga and Sasha, who really go out of their way to make their guest's stay as comfortable as possible, massive thanks to them! Retreat itself is just what we needed - great views, stylish Casas and total relaxation. We would really recommend this place if you value outstanding service and very special accommodation.

      Disappointing

Left on 11/19/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Beware of booking the 1 bedroom apartment if the weather is not guaranteed. We ended up stuck here during the floods and it was so disappointing. The pool was too cold to swim lengths in, the running machine was broken yet not advertised as 'out of order' and was frankly begging for an accident to happen. The exercise bike was exceedingly old and the weights were sparse; it could not really be classified as a gym! The sauna and steam rooms were amazing. The apartment itself was OK but we refused to pay the high prices of 50 euros per Nespresso pod and over 4 eurose for a 300 ml bottle of beer - just buy/bring your own it makes far more sense. Our shower tray was broken which meant a mini flood every time you had a shower and there was insufficient hot water in the tank for 2 showers. The owner was also very unpleasant to me on our final day which we have never experienced before and ruined my holiday. We requested to stay for the afternoon as we had an evening flight and she was not content. In the end they did relent but we did leave on a low and felt as though this was a rip off venue; we will not return.

Response from Daria Dubinina - 12/13/2012

      Daria Dubinina

      Owner

      Dear Kirsty,

When we saw your review on Flipkey - we thought it is an error and was a wrongly listed review about another place as we just could not apply it to Retreat. However, after thoroughly reading through it, we have realised that you wrote it, although your name was not left under the review. The fact that we hardly have any guests with such a negative perception of everything ( this can be clearly seen from the previous reviews by our happy guests), we have realised who wrote it. But still, we are still in doubt that this review is really in fact about your stay at Retreat...

      1. You are absolutely right - we cannot guarantee the weather especially during automn and spring. So we once again appologize about this.
      2. Running machine was working perfectly before your arrival and we assumed it was working during your stay as well seeing other guests using it...There is a switch on/off button to activate the machine. So if it is not pressed the machine maybe look out of order:)
      3. The bike is only 3 years old and to call it 'exceedingly old'' is probably not quite right?
Regarding the quality and variety of gym equipement, we would like to stress that for sport lovers we offer 4 types of gym equipment, tennis court with rackets and balls provided, badminton, basketball ring, ,mountain bikes, heated infininity pool, variety of Spa treatments, sauna and steam room. As Retreat is not a Olimpic sporting prepation center and we only have up to 12 guests capacity, without being modest we believe we do not look that bad...:)

      4. We are pleased to read that you rate our Casa Cipres as OK ( which for some reason you call as 1 bedroom apartment?) but we are not sure what you mean by saying that you have refused to pay 50 euros for Nespresso pod? The Nespresso coffee capsule costs 1.50 euros. Maybe you wanted to drink 33 cups of coffee during your holiday ( 50/1.50 = 33.30) but then have changed your mind not to drink a single one? Or maybe you thought that we wanted to sell you the Nespresso coffee machine itself? But it costs far more than 50 euros and we do not sell them anyway:) So we are sorry but we could not figure out your mysterious 50 euros comment..
      5. We also could not understand what you meant by saying that 300ml of beer cost over 4 euros? We would like to remind you that a bottle of beer of 330ml at Retreat costs 2.5 euros. According to your check out bill that was 0 euros, we couldn't quite understand the price list you have quoted?
      6. As you have chosen self-catering basis at Retreat, we couldn't enter your Casa to check the appliances. And during our daily meetings about us refunding you the 24.70 pounds that your bank has charged you for your card usage, you have never mentioned anything about the shower cabin not working properly, so reading it in your reviews is news to us. It is even more strange, that the next couple who arrived to Casa Cipres that same day has never said anything about the problem with hot water or the cabin. So if this was the case, we do appoologize.
      7. We could not grant you to stay until the evening at the Casa itself as we were fully booked and had another couple arriving that same day so we needed to prepare the Casa for them. Despite being fully booked, we have offered you to stay and relax by the Spa area until the evening without any charge and until you have departed you have swimmed in the ' cold' pool with the water temperature being 24 degrees. The only thing we have asked you - is to leave your luggage in the storadge room and not to bring it to the pool for the comfort of other guests which has probably caused such a negative reaction from you. By the way, when we have granted your wish to stay behind until the evening - this was the only time you have smiled at us during your 7 days stay.

Every hotelier knows that there are always guests who will be unhappy and negative despite any circumstances and who in 99% case will write 'objective' review about their stay so it is impossible to avoid them whatever we do. This is one of the sides of our wonderful business:)

Kirsty, did you really write this review about our Retreat?:) Eitherway, we are sorry that you will not return to our Retreat, we will miss your positive mood and warmth. Best regards to your nice husband George and Merry Christmas!

After a week of wedding preparations and a weekend of wedding partying our "mini moon" at DDG Retreat was just what we needed to send us home rested and relaxed. The Casa was beautiful, but the views and surrounding countryside stole the show, with the jaw-dropping infinity pool the perfect place to enjoy a drink from the honesty bar and a relax in the sunshine while you take it all in. Do make sure you book a spa treatment in what must be one of the most beautiful spots to have a massage in the world! Friendly, tranquil, unique and truly the best possible option for the perfect honeymoon. Thank you to alex, Olga and Dari for making it so special!

      Perfect Honeymoon

Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Our stay was wonderful. My wife - since it was my responsibility arranging the honeymoon - had no idea where we were heading until we arrived at the retreat and what a surprise it was for her, and a treat for me who knew something of what was in store. What a paradise the retreat is!

From the moment we arrived, we started to relax and I can't think of a more perfect setting for a honeymoon. Everyone was very welcoming, and Olga's cooking delicious. We relaxed completely in the attentive care of the retreat - it was that wonderful mix of privacy yet knowing that any requests would be met quickly and with good grace.

Spa treatments - a facial and massage - were lovely.

We stayed in Casa Oleandro, which was thoughtfully decorated and equipped. We managed one evening meal self-catering, but quickly realised that eating in the retreat was a much tastier option!

I can't recommend the retreat highly enough. It's perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing break away from all life's stresses and we'll be visiting again soon...

A blissful start to married life

Left on 10/09/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We had the good fortune to have had nothing arranged for our honeymoon 4 weeks before the wedding when we picked up a copy of Ths Sunday Times 'September Deals' Travel supplement. From the start our experience with DDG was sublime and they did not disappoint right the way through to our last day. This is a family run business 100% focussed on ensuring that their guests have a beautiful experience. Nothing was too much trouble. On arriving at Casa Daria high in the Spanish hills overlooking the beautiful little white village of Casares after a long and tiring journey all the stresses and strains accompanied with the run up to a wedding disappeared. We were chaperoned for the last 5 minutes of the drive up a very steep and narrow dusty road with stunning views and then the gates to Casa Daria opened and suddenly we were in our very own shangri-la. We were greeted by Olga who is so warm and friendly - she just makes you feel straight at home. The attention to detail is exquisite, surrounded by artefacts collected from Thailand, Bali, India and Morocco accompanied by the verdant and lush greenery of palm trees, banana plants, orleandar bushes and the beautiful blue sky and heat of the spanish sun, we could have been at any suggested honeymoon destination but without the 22 hour plane journey. Arriving at our private little Casa that was to be home for 12 days we were treated to panoramic views of Gibraltar, the Med and in the middle distance Morocco and african mountains. We were free to enjoy our terrace and beautiful plunge pool uninterrupted, opting to spend many lazy days here rather than going out - occasionally surfacing to eat delicious meals cooked by Olga or to venture further afield to some wonderful 5* restaurants nearby. We had the best massages ever in an open hut overlooking soaring eagles and majestic mountains followed by fragrant tea on a daybed under the trees. Chilling out with champagne by the pool. Contemplating nothing on a hammock.Just heavenly.

Ddg Retreat is a wonderful place to spend some quality time with that someone special in your life. We had a mini honeymoon there and it was perfect.

The only thing I wish I'd known was how tricky the road to the place was, I didn't want to drive down it at night so you either need to be happy to drive down rather precarious roads at night, pre-book Olga's amazing food or take supplies!

We loved every minute of it and appreciated all the little touches put in place to make sure you relax and enjoy! The spa treatments are also amazing and in a magical setting with views out across the valley!

The pool, views, chalets, people are all fantastic. Can't recommend highly enough, just a shame it's shut for winter!

Quite simply, the ultimate in romance and privacy

Left on 09/25/2012 for a stay in September 2012

From before we had even made the booking right through to our return to the UK after our trip the family who run DDG Retreat (Olga, Alex and Daria) looked after us and went above and beyond to ensure we have the most special of trips possible.

We were looking for a private, romantic setting for our first anniversary and I cannot think of anything which could have been made different to ensure this was the case.

The place itself is testimony to their dedication to creating a wonderful atmosphere with outstanding beauty throughout. You actually don't know where to look next at times there is so much to take in.

I have read some negative comments regarding the road in to the retreat. Well yes it is a little off road but we drove in a small micra with a 1.2 engine and had no problem accessing the retreat. In fact the whole experience of the road made it that bit more exciting and secluded.

The service is second to none and being a family ran business makes it that bit more special (far better than spending money at a large tourist trap and getting nothing of any quality in return).

I would not hesitate for a second in recommending this place to anyone looking for that somewhere a bit different and a bit special for themselves and their loved one.

Not even the photos on the website which are gorgeous can come close to doing this place justice.

We are going next year for sure!!!

The DDG Retreat is gorgeous. Up in the mountains, away from the hustle and bustle, our every need was catered for, even booking a delightful restaurant for the two of us for our first evening. It was very peaceful and tranquil and we slept incredibly well. The accommodation standard was excellent, both inside and out. Everything was provided for, towels, pool towels, sarongs, toiletries, washing m/c, etc. Good catering facilities, lovely coffee machine, gorgeous wines & champagne in the fridge. The DDG Retreat had everything we could have asked for and more. The views were spectacular and we felt refreshed and well rested when we got home. We would definitely stay there again. Loved it!

      What a fantastic find !

After a tough season at work, what an amazing breakaway - a real gem of a place to find ... total relaxation - tranquility, peace and quiet, hosts that treat you like friends but leave you to yourselves, excellent fresh food cooked really well (and enough alternatives around the vicinity too) and super views. We only booked two nights initially ... but managed to book again for another night at the end of the week it was so good.

Not cheap, but good value ...

      The Experience of a Lifetime!

Left on 09/01/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Ddg Retreat was one of the most amazing places we have stayed in our 30 years of international travel. Our wonderful experience began even before we arrived thanks to Daria and her assistance with our booking, etc - it was all completely painless for us - she could not be more helpful. Our house (casa) was amazing! Our own private plunge pool with lounge chairs and a patio with a poster bed to relax and enjoy the wondrous mountain view.
The inside was charming and delightful - ours had a loft and amazing quality wines and the fresh mountain air made it all the more fantastic. My wife enjoyed a massage and a facial while I relaxed at the outdoor spa pool sipping a cool drink. We also enjoyed breakfast and dinner here and were privileged to taste the wonders of Olga's homemade meals.
There is nothing not to like at DDG - we have already begun to make plans to return! We truly had the experience of a lifetime!

From the moment you arrive until the moment you (sadly) leave, you are made to feel welcome and valued. The cold refreshing welcome drink and the beautiful setting immediately make you feel relaxed and comfortable. The apartment we had (Olivo) was amazing and I think the words to describe would be "rustic luxury". If you found something lacking then this would be entirely in the wrong place for you. Do not look for mass produced decor or contrived styling. These rooms are individually decorated by the owners in their own totally unique and personal way. All the practical requirements are presented in hand decorated baskets or embroidered bags - like the loo roll or the plug in mosquito repellent (not required). There is a well equipped bathroom with large shower right along side the wooden shutters which open up to the breathtaking views, you can almost feel that you are outside. The bed faces the wide windows and again, when open, you can feel that you are totally alone on the mountain. The kitchen is well equipped for basics, with an excellent coffee machine ( coffee provided) and a huge american fridge - for me all the necessary things in life - good coffee and cold beer and wine , perhaps not the equipment for full meals, but then, once again if you are looking to cook three courses and stay in the kitchen ... not for you! Now for the three private balcony/terraces...amazing - lots of places to sit and relax all ideal for different parts of the day, all comfortable and secluded. The pool, the gym, the tennis court, the hammam, the sauna,,,and the spa - all done perfectly. You can borrow Dvds and CDS for your room - just help yourself, there is an honesty bar, always clean towels by the pool... and the beautiful romantic dining area with its individual tented tables, If you are looking to relax and spend time with someone then this is certainly the place to be . Your privacy is totally respected. This was someone's beautiful home and luckily they have invited us in. My one complaint was that I was only there 6 days.

I have just returned from the best holiday in my 49 cynical years on this planet. thanks to DDG Retreat Casares,Malaga,. The views are breath taking to the point of being emotionally crippling if like me you work ridiculous hours in central london. Luxurious without being ostentatious or vulgar ; it is perfectly designed for single people or couples without young children who just want to be left alone and reacquaint themselves as to why they are together in the first place. The service however is immaculate , nothing was too much trouble and anticipatory without being unnecessarily engaging. Sacha and Olga run a beautiful place and it is done with so much love of their business and customers. The pool , their own restaurant and the clientele all add to this perfect ambiance which is why as I sit in shepherds bush familiarizing myself again with the alcoholic vomit drenched smell of west london, I am planning my next visit as soon as possible. Thank you Olga and Sacha.

Even if the first time you take the road to get there can be suprising! The place is sooo quiet and peaceful that we were very happy to return at night to go swimming in the community pool.

The casa we stayed in had breathtaking views, and on the second evening we watched the sunset and then experienced Olga's amazing cooking. The massage I recieved was the best I have ever had. A wonderful holiday retreat

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Olga and alex have created a very relaxing retreat - it was so lovely that we could only drag ourselves to a nearby beach on one day in the whole week, the rest of the time we lazed by the pool or in the lovely Casa Pino. We didn't have a car as we didn't want to do anything, even drive, so all of the taxi arrangements were made for us. Daria, Olga and alex's daughter, made sure all the arrangements were as we wished via email prior to arrival, so it was all easy to arrange. Olga cooked our meals every evening and they were absolutely delicious - I recommend the seafood paella especially! The spa service is excellent and the hot stones massage I had was fabulous, you can look out to the mountains as you lie on the massage table. If you want a completely relaxing break away from it all, where everything is done for you and you have the utmost privacy in the most gorgeous of grounds, then this is the place for you. I look forward to returning as soon as I can.

Lots right but room for improvement

Left on 07/31/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Firstly I just wanted to make it clear that we had a great stay at the retreat and found that on the whole they have created a lovely environment to stay and rest and recuperate. We spent 2 nights in Casa Oleandro which was perfect and loved dinner so much on the first night that we returned on our second night, so highly recommend the food.

But the reason for the low score is because we had a few gripes along the way. Firstly there are two pictures on the website for Oleandro that show a day bed with uninterrupted views over the mountains. This was a selling point for us so we were disappointed to see that it did not exist. There is a different day bed that features in another photo but our first impression of the place was that we were disappointed and felt slightly duped by the pictures.

We were then surprised that the casa was not as secluded as we had hoped with another casa adjoining ours. It meant we heard our neighbours chatting and their music meaning that we felt compelled to whisper when in the area next to their accommodation. It just didn't feel as private as we'd hoped and because they are separated by a thin bamboo fence we even saw our neighbour walking around topless!

Then we were a bit peeved that breakfast wasn't included in the price. Baring in mind that it is an isolated retreat miles from anywhere, being charged 19 euros for two eggs and some pastries when there are no alternative options seems a lit unfair, especially when you're paying over 300 euros a night.

That feeling continues inside the casa which is equipped with a Nespresso machine. Nice touch until you realise that they charge you 1 euro 50 a cup! Now you can go to a travelodge on the M25 and get complimentary coffee in your room so why should I be charged to make my own coffee here. I bit tight we felt.

The last criticism is their frankly bewildering policy of making their guests take their rubbish with them. I've never heard of this before but worse still was that this wasn't mentioned in person but was on a rather well hidden note that said that anyone who fails to do this will be fined 50 euros!! This didn't exactly make us feel 'relaxed' in our retreat!

So, to reiterate, there is plenty that we loved about the place but it is definitely let down by these things listed above, which we feel are all unnecessary anyway. Take the misleading photos down and the casa is still delightful. Throw in some fruit and pastries at breakfast and don't charge for the coffee and we'd feel more looked after.

It's just a shame that rather than our lasting memories being the amazing views, the delicious food or the fantastic private plunge pool, instead it will be driving around Casares with a big bag of rubbish trying to find an appropriate place to dispose of it. Doesn't exactly scream 'luxury retreat'...

Response from Daria Dubinina - 08/20/2012

      Daria Dubinina

      Owner

      Dear Thomas,

Thank you for finding time to write a review about our Casa Daria. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us..We are glad that you have enjoyed your dining experience and we are happy that our guests enjoy a great variety of our local restaurants that we are always happy to recommend.

Regarding your complaint about outside bed at Casa Oleandro we would like to remind you that upon your arrival and your question about it - we have offered to prepare it for you just like on the photo if you do like to sleep outside and feel comfortable with it. You said that you will think about it and let us know. We never heard back from you about this issue so we thought that you have decided against it and felt more comfortable sleeping inside. We apologize if we have wrongly interpreted your silence about it.

We appreciate and understand that Retreat itself or anything else at it maybe disliked or found unsatisfactory but we do not wish to tolerate twisting the real facts just to publish a negative review. We are not sure what you meant about a breakfast 'consisting of 2 eggs for the cost of 19 euros' and you were not able to go to a nearby restaurant because of ' isolated retreat miles from anywhere'? Maybe due to your extensive travel throughout Andalusia you have mistaken us with another place? The nearest restaurant La Terraza is located 2 minutes from our gates, restaurant Casa Curro and mi Cortijo are located 3 minutes away and at least 10 more restaurants just up to 7 minutes drive away. You can check this information via google.

Where did you see the information that the cost of all Casas include breakfast, when our website clearly states Room only and the word breakfast is not even mentioned there. Further more you have received our booking confirmation confirming your chosen Room only Basis and you didn't raise any questions prior to your arrival about it. Our website clearly explains all of the booking conditions and Room only basis clearly states that: 'Clients take care of cleaning and other maintenance personally including rubbish disposal' and you have accepted these conditions when you have booked your Casa. This is a standard self-catering practice at least throughout Spain. This is due to the hot temperatures in Spain especially during high season when if rubbish is left around it will begin to decompose and smell attracting mice. It is also unclear why you drove around for miles around Casares when the rubbish disposal bins are located 1 minute away from the gates of Casa Daria and if this one is missed there is another one 200 meters away.

We do not understand why you have found upsetting that guests can walk around topless on their private terrace. We are not in Iran and it is their private territory where they can feel relaxed and walk around topless if they wish to and unless you stand there and stare through the wall you cannot see anything and we have never had other guests complaining about this.

All of the photos presented on the site are real. Furthermore vast majority of our guests tell us that that photos don't do the justice and the real look of Retreat and Casas are much better and more special than the photos and the reality exceeds their expectations. But of course we appreciate that you may have a different expectation and feeling about it. We do our best to ensure that the information and photos provided explain clearly everything about us to avoid any disappointment or misunderstanding so we always encourage our guests to spend a lot of time reading terms and conditions before booking.

We always aim at providing the best customer service possible and to provide exceptional service to our guests. During your stay, despite being fully booked and you wanted us to provide more sun loungers to the pool and your tone was far from friendly - within 10 minutes they were provided there for you. Then you have ripped our hammock in bits and never apologized about it.

We always listen to our guest's feedback and comments but they have to be objective and justified and not be left out of because of some disappointment you have experienced.

Thank you for your visit and we wish you all the best.

      Kind Regards,
      Regards

PS Maybe you are right and it it will be more comfortable for you to book a room at travel lodge on M25.

      Parallel Universe

Left on 07/28/2012 for a stay in June 2012

This establishment seems to have a peripatetic existence on Ta, often disappearing then re-emerging, and usually supported by gushing unattributed reviews.

So I was rather intrigued to see what the real thing was like, because it sounded fab and looked even fabber on its website, although veering somewhat to the spa/romantic/ambient/inner peace concept. However, the hook for me was the guaranteed peace and quiet in a natural atmosphere - with no kids.

Couldn't fault the correspondence beforehand to secure the booking, At the other end, Daria was prompt, efficient, friendly and helpful. She seemed so pleasant that we were sorry not to meet her

So, with eager anticipation, we waited to be sherpa'd in from just outside Casares (DDG is impossible to find otherwise), and undertook a vertiginous, death-defying drive into the Sierra Crestellina. However, one last push up through the golden security gates and then we were into some kind of parallel universe.

The shrub lined banks of a well-paved drive (sigh of relief) curved ever upwards, although we paused initially to sign in at the midpoint open air public area. Not a lot of administrative fuss from our hostess Olga, and we were then conducted onwards and upwards, again, to the highest and probably the most private establishment in the DDG enclave on the mountainside.

One of five residences scattered amongst acres of impressively natural landscaping, the Casa Pino was a kind of terra-cotta, butter-dish shaped cabana with some external aztec-styled hieroglyphics which housed a high-beamed studio- suite plus. We'd booked on a hotel basis, but the place was well equipped to deal with the more usual self-catering if required. Coloured burnt orange inside, with matching tiles and high cross-beams, it was very logically designed, and fronted by a large, wide, picture window with a classic mountainside view. With a sofa facing the window and then up a step for the large comfortable bed behind that, it was always a pleasure to draw the curtains and drink in the vista ahead. Above the bed was a most effective and quiet aircon unit. Screened behind were double sinks with a wide and deep marble top; usual freebies and an excellent hairdryer were also to hand and then further back again was the walk in closet/laundry room which had the clothes rails, hangers, portable safe (!) open shelves plus washing machine and ironing board. Plenty of space but no cupboards or closing drawers. Flanked to each side of this was a very sunny loo to the left and a capacious shower room, with a rather single-minded rain head fitting to the right, and that was the basic layout. Around the room were lots of Balinese and far Eastern artefacts, and an all-time first was the well-stocked electric wine cooler, Also in the "lounge" area was a TV/CD Player set up for Dvd's only in order to conform to the inner calm principle. Perversely, stacks of shrieking "Friends" Dvd's, amongst others, were always available from the DDG supply. Separate and accessible from the outside was a tiny. but ample, kitchen which happily included a fridge stocked with a supply of beer and soft drinks.

The Pino had quite a bit of walled-off garden with plenty of shade, mainly due to the aforementioned and mature pino (pine) tree, but there was also sufficient sun availability to position the two ergonomic (i.e. not flat) loungers as required. Because of the lofty position, as said before, the views were excellent and the local celebrated griffon vultures were often in evidence from a variety of distances. The vegetation was getting into a somewhat "natural" state so the small plunge pool/jacuzzi in the garden's midst usually got a bit of debris by the end of the day. Not that we expected gardens like the Palace of Versailles, though. Directly overlooking the pool, and to the front of the Pino's picture window was a covered shaded area with a pair of day beds, plus table and chairs, so this was a handy point for a spot of lunch in the shade or a quiet evening drink.

We had become quite fond of the Pino by the end of our stay- almost proprietorial, in fact. A mass ant incursion one night was annoying, but we couldn't fault the managerial effort to eradicate the problem to a satisfactory conclusion as soon as possible afterwards.

Big positive mention to the lovely blonde lady who diligently and spotlessly cleaned and resupplied the whole casa on a daily basis, and then doubled up with table duty at mealtimes. And she got to use the DDG golf/service cart up and down the steep drives

Elsewhere in the DDG grounds was a splendid swimming pool/gym/sauna area. Clean, bright, well equipped and surrounded by mature landscaping - it really was an excellent place. And there was a bar area with a stocked fridge operating on an honesty basis. We were also given a tour of the spa cabin located deep in the woods and which seemed to have all that was required in both a pleasant atmosphere and natural surroundings. Also dotted around the place were random daybeds and hammocks amongst the tropical greenery - an edge for the honeymoon market maybe!

Meals were taken in the attractive open air reception/communal area where we had originally signed in . Each casa had its own separate, and private, platformed dais with a smartly laid table for two. Breakfasts were fairly basic but quite ample - e.g. yogurts, muesli, mixed fruit, pastries, coffee/tea . Egg variables also available.
Dinners were far more interesting, Olga had a range of home-cooked options which were both wholesome and generous (as an aside, the batter-free deep fried water melon starter was rather wacky) with a good complementary and reasonably priced wine-list. Accompanying mealtime sound track somewhat on the drippy, jazzy side though

DDG also recommended some local restaurants about10 minutes drive away which were all safe bets, all fun and all full of very wearing expats. A driver and BMW X5 could be supplied at E12.50/each way and we used this facility several times in order to enjoy the local vino without worrying about driving down the mountainside on the way back.

We went out to explore each morning; the road between Casares and the coast to the south, or the more hilly interior to the north was fine, if somewhat uneven (to be polite) in the initial stages. A visit to Ronda was a real standout and highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay and it suited us perfectly. Totally peaceful and relaxing, with our own little house to potter around in, and some good food and wine in the evening. We stayed well over a week and saw only two other pairs of guests during that time. The DDG appeared to operate with an active staff in residence of three, maybe four and our contact with them was quite minimal. Didn't worry us in the slightest - we're quite self-sufficient. When we left it was made very clear that cash was the preferred option to settle the bill.

In summary, I can imagine that anyone who needs vibrancy and interaction might find the DDG rather a shock, but those that like privacy, quietness and relaxation in mature landscaped surroundings will find the DDG a very happy and adventurous choice indeed

After a long and complicated journey with a lot of stress we arrived in DDG and we where pleasantly surprised, first of all from the warm welcome but also the perfect surroundings sand the tasteful way everything was done within the smallest detail, just brilliant and as i said perfect. The views where stunning, the little houses, with all possible comfort a men could think of, where cosy and decorated with the same touch of love and care as the rest of everything we saw. What was really amazing was the serene peach and quietness and the feeling of intense privacy. The community pool is like a oases with all possible convenience like sound Turkish bad and where you can choose your own music to listen to. We could also take DVD and CD to the little houses and enjoy good music or a film at home. I for sure will return to DDG for a nice brake and to recharge my batteries. Thnx to the owners who made us so welcome and thnx for Daria to make us feel like family visiting.

Lugar paradisíaco pero sin ningún tipo de servicio adicional y t

Left on 07/22/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We have to reply to your negative review.

Descriptions like 'oasis' and 'paradise' are bandied about far too often these days and most likely with little susbstance. Here you get both and more. Prepare to shed your stress and the majority of your clothing, nothing more than the provided sarong or bathrobe is required. Four star hospitality within the privacy of your own Casa, where you are left to your own devices or feel safe in the knowledge that there is a team on hand. A truly wonderful experience that we intend to revisit.

I arrived at the DDG Retreat looking for some r&r; and I was not disappointed. From the booking through to the goodbyes, you are met with professional and welcoming responses.
The journey from the main road to the retreat is an experience all on it's own! But once you step through the DDG Retreat gates you instantly relax due to the welcome and the tranquility you experience.
My Casa Cipres felt like it was perched within the trees! It had a gorgeous outdoor area, where you could sunbathe on the loungers, eat al fresco or chill on the daybed...the choice is yours. Inside is a cosy room with all you need.
There is plenty to do, swim, gym, play tennis, walk, have a spa treatment or if you were like me just chill with a good book.
The food was also excellent, who needs to go out to a restaurant, Olga creates mouthwatering delights.
What I particularly liked is the eco-friendliness of it all and the serenity, I left feeling so very relaxed.
Am already thinking about paying another visit later in the Summer.

Alex picks you up in Casares to guide you in and Olga is waiting for you with a chilled towel and OJ. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave nothing is too much trouble. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is quietly chilled and the accommodation unique. As a special event this was fantastic and be assured we will be returning, we may even take a children with us this time.

This was our second time at DDG retreat. It is a heavenly place, perched in the mountains, with exceptional vistas. Our villa, casa olivio, has floor to ceiling sliding doors all throughout, so you feel surrounded by nature but in complete comfort. Sasha and Olga have decorated the retreat to perfection and are extremely welcoming and helpful in every way. We chose to have breakfasts included in our plan which worked out very well. We also chose to have dinner a couple of nights and despite feeling a bit bad initially to have Olga and Sasha in the kitchen on our account, we got over it very quickly and enjoyed a great meal. There are also good local restaurants in the area. What was wonderful for us was being away from the crowds, and yet having access to a beautiful clean beach, a 20 minute drive. One morning we took a nice hike around the property and spent the rest of the day by the pool. All in all a beautiful spot, lovely people and completely relaxing. We would go back !!!

What a gem!! A piece of tropical paradise perched high on the hill above Casares. Designed for complete privacy and luxury and does exactly what it says on the tin - I thought we were the only guests there, until I spied some others going out for dinner - it was amazingly quiet and peaceful. Plenty of places to chill out around the grounds and pool as well as our lovely accommodation - I spent most of my time swinging on the day bed on one of our balconies with a book and G&T; - heaven!
Olga and Sacha are wonderfully warm and friendly hosts - they brought us blankets and heaters when we had a freak storm and did everything possible to make our stay wonderful and memorable. They have created a very special hideaway - I loved it!

The view from our room with our own patio and plunge pool was fantastic. The DDG retreat is ideal for people who are looking for a relaxing yet luxurious break and who are looking to get away from it all. We also found a range of walks in the surrounding countryside which were easily reached from the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Amazing - a honeymoon I thought only happened in films!

Left on 05/30/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Every little detail has been considered to make a stay here completely stress free.

Daria responded personally to all of our emails before we arrived and Olga and Sacha went out of their way to make you feel at home, they couldn't have done any more to make their retreat any more relaxing for their guests. Olga even took time to draw us a little map of the best roads to go on to take us to Ronda, we've kept it as a memory of our holiday!

There is nothing we could say to identify what we liked best, although, watching the eagles flying above us in the mountains, while we relaxed at the infinity pool was a pretty amazing experience.

The journey around Casares to get to the Retreat, was easy but the drive up the mountain to the gates of DDG was a bit of a daunting experience but having Olga there to meet us at a lower point, to show us the way, made it easier to deal with and the reward at the end of the drive, more than makes up for it!

Thank you Daria, Olga and Sacha for making our honeymoon totally memorable - I am working on my anniversary plans...

Amidst the awfully crowded Costa del Sol there is this little sweet paradise: DDG retreat. We started our honeymoon in Casares where we had a unforgettable week. If you are looking for an individual, comfortable and luxurious spot, DDG offers this and even more. The retreat itself is a huge garden and the casas have been affectionately arranged by the good taste of the host's themselves. We have lodged in Casa Oleando. The Casa was very clean, offering every comfort a guest, that wants to have some privacy, requires. Encircled by nature, you will
enjoy the silence and the tranquility of the aera. If you wish some distraction the main house offers a variety of art books, dvd's, music and for refreshing a great swimming pool (besides your private pool). The friendly stuff has maintained a high level of service throughout our stay, without being pushy. We also would like to mention the rich an delicious breakfast that we have enjoyed every day and the great dinner Olga prepared herself. The fact that a table has to agree to the same dish does not affect at all the high grade of culinary experience. In contrary, it gives to the dinner a extra personal touch. By the way: the list of wine is awesome. If you wish to explore the area or to eat in an other restaurant, the host's will perfectly advise you. They even offer driving service.

We definitely highly recommend DDG to everyone who has sense of taste and enjoys the sunny side of life!

This is an absolutely beautiful place and I can't recommend it highly enough. The accomodation (I stayed in Casa Cipres) was small, but had everything I needed. It was spotless and beautifully furnished. The views are spectactular, the pool and other common areas are wonderfully luxurious, and the food is simple and delicious. The owners have achieved something really special here. A highly recommended secluded retreat an hours drive from Malaga airport from which the retreat can organise a pick-up for around €120 each way.

For our three night break we chose Casa Cipres, the smallest casa, which is in an elevated position reached by a steep stairway (not recommended for anyone with limited mobility). It is small and cosy and has a large outside area to relax with sun loungers, daybed and table and chairs and has spectacular view of the mountains. The website accurately describes the room.

The infinity pool is beautifully quiet and tranquil presumably as some of the casas have their own private pools. Small fridges filled with beer, wine and soft drinks are dotted around the pool and spa area, and a trunk full of Dvds and books are there for your use.

There are a number of restaurants within a short distance - we can highly recommend The Forge - and the retreat will happily taxi you there and back for around €14 each way. However, you should at least stay at the retreat for one night and sample Olga’s delicious home cooking which is taken in the romantic garden.

The quaint white-washed village of Casares is worth a visit and just a 15 minute walk on a track from the retreat (sturdy shoes are recommended). There are a restaurants, bars and a few shops within the village.

Thank you to Daria for her organisation and to alex and Olga for their hospitality.

We're from Germany and we spent our honeymoon at the DDG Retreat. The first impression was very good. Olga picked us up in the valley and showed us the way up the hill. The road is a bit rustic, indeed, but not as bad as we thought it would be. We made it with a fiat.
The whole facility is so beautiful and very impressive. There are many little spots and details to explore! We stayed in Casa Pino. The little pool outside is always clean and the view from there is amazing. Olga and her team are very friendly and they take care of everything. Ddg is not really a hotel. A real Spanish gem

Left on 09/03/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We have recently returned from staying at DDG retreats and highly recommend the retreat. Our stay was at the very private Casa Pino, it has real character and wonderful views over to the sea and Gibraltar. The small plunge pool is perfect for cooling off in and the property comes with it's own sun beds.

Daria sorted out our last minute booking in a very professional way giving us all sorts of options and was never pushy or up-selling features

The accommodation has everything you need and is well decorated, clean and tidy. The kitchen is small, but does have microwave and a hob for cooking, on which I turned out some pretty good meals.

The welcome and service is excellent, Olga met us on the road in to guide us up and showed us around the facilities, they then stepped in when we needed them. All the safe on the site were very helpful and polite.

We ate a couple of times at the fantastic dining area and found the meals excellent and very reasonably priced. Olga is a great cook and presentation is perfect. Alex knows his wines and we had a lovely bottle of wine.

I had a fall from a horse whilst out there and alex turned up with antiseptic and pain killers for my back, all very welcome.

The shared pool is fantastic (if a little chilly at times), and the whole environment has a real quality feel to it.

Privacy is the real word for this retreat, if you are on honeymoon it is perfect, especially at Casa Pino which is completely apart from the rest of the estate and has lots of character and charm.

One word of warning, the road to the retreat in the hills is pretty steep in places, get a car with a few horse power to get you up there! ... the views are worth it!

The bottom line... it's worth the money... more expensive than a standard villa ... but quality and service are well worth the extra cash... especially if it's your honeymoon!

From the moment we got to the retreat we were relaxed. Set amongst the mountains the DDG Retreat is complete escapism. The staff were beyond helpful (even the resident alsatians looked out for us!) There is no need to leave the retreat as Olga puts on a great menu for breakfast and dinner. Olga also suggested some wonderful places to eat when we wanted to get out and about (Venta Garcia was amazing!)

We had the pool area to ourselves most of the time (sun worshipping brits!) But with only 5 villas on the property even at full capacity it would not be crowed.

We were luckily enough to have a massage and facial while we were there which was also brilliant.

      Will definitely be going back.

A small and perfectly formed "hidden gem"

Left on 09/02/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Escaping the hurly burly of our hectic lives, a relatively short plane journey transported us straight to Paradise. From start to finish DDG Retreats was, for us and our two children (12 and 14), a perfect holiday experience.

It’s hard to pick out the highlights from so many lovely surprises that awaited us. So in no particular order - there’s an amazing infinity pool where those seeking privacy can find fabulous chill-out zones to hideaway in. The spa is set amidst natural woodland where we enjoyed treatments that were to-die-for. There’s a great all weather tennis court with far reaching views across to Gibraltar and North africa. And to while away those hammock moments there are glossy coffee-table books galore.

Slaving over a hot stove wasn’t our idea of a rest but with Olga’s cooking and a very pretty terrace restaurant for dining in, luckily we didn't need to. The menu was varied, the meals were delicious, and the sea-food soup was the tastiest we'd ever had. So successful was Olga’s cooking that our budding 12-year-old gourmet pestered incessantly to eat there.

The whole ambience is one of peace and calm allowing us rare distraction-free quality time as a family. And the attention to detail wowed us. There were Nespresso machines in each villa, a ready-stocked wine cabinet, and even His and Hers straw hats, sarongs and cotton robes were supplied, meaning we needn’t have bothered with the excess baggage we'd struggled through the airport with!

As for the place itself, the architecture’s been inspired by an exotic melting pot of cultures. Olga and alex have travelled extensively – and we loved the influences that came from every corner of the Globe. Bali, Thailand, Africa, Ibiza, they were all here to be enjoyed.

At DDG Retreats Olga and alex have put their hearts, souls and a bucket-load of passion into creating a very special place. We found DDG by chance. We went with no expectations and were blown away by our "hidden gem" of a discovery! We’ll be back!

Attractive and Tranquil - all you would want a villa in the sun

Left on 09/02/2011 for a stay in August 2011

We stayed at the retreat for two weeks, and on balance, found it to has very many plus points but we also had some expectations that were not fulfilled for the cost of the holiday.
My husband and I rented Casa adelfa with friends taking Casa Olivio and Casa Cipres. On reflection, Olivio has by far the best views and outside living/relaxing areas of the three and I would recommend it.

Personally I found adelfa too claustrophobic after two weeks -not because of the interior area but it has trees completely blocking any view from the bedroom(the branches scratch the glass all night if you close the windows) and also the lounge/kitchen area. Additionally it's small outside terrace is completely overshadowed by trees for most of the day. A little too overgrown for my preferences. Interiors of the casas are very tastefully designed with a rustic charm and some very nice homely touches. I agree with other reviewers who have said it's a bit of a stretch to describe the properties as self-catering. Anything beyond basic salads were a challenge to say the least in adelfa - and nothing more than a coffee/sandwich was possible in Cipres. In adelfa we had to remove the drinks from the refrigerator to have refrigeration space. Again olivio has a great kitchen. We also found the charging for tea and coffee in the casas rather mean since most hotels in this price bracket would offer this as complimentary. The retreat is at the end of a long unfinished road and the hills in and around it are steep - A car is really essential to get decent access to provisions, dining out alternatives and to take away the rubbish which you have to do yourself if you select the self-catering option. Our casas faced west and In august during late afternoon, evening heat may be too intense for some in the rooms -as there is no `AC'.
More reason to stay down at the pool and enjoy the evening sun down with some great music.

      On the very positive side,
      - the retreat is wonderfully remote if you enjoy tranquillity (we absolutely did). Olga and alex's
welcome is warm and they really want to make your stay very special. They have put huge effort into really beautiful landscaping and the place is immaculately maintained with very discrete and courteous staff. We really loved the infinity pool/spa area which has wonderful styling, beautiful areas to watch the sun sets and relaxation zones - as well as the courtyard for evening meals. We sampled Olga's cooking on two occasions and were not disappointed - but again its quite pricy for essentially what is good home cooking. (The restaurant arroyo Hondo on the road to Casares offers great value and an excellent menu as an alternative option.)

We would stay again. It has a very special vibe -but we would definitely take Olivio next time. One last note, Daria makes the information requests/enquiry/booking service very courteous and efficient - especially as we had complicated arrangements. The booking flexibility is also a plus. We thank the team for their hospitality and kind attentions.

Ps Take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper - the local village dogs enjoy barking competitions during the night.

We had a couple of beauty treatments each which were easily organised and in the lovely spa area in the grounds. Olga and alexander, the owners, were so welcoming and very very attentive. We had two delicious dinners in the very pretty gardens cooked by Olga - highly recommend the paella! We liked that the room had cooking facilities so we could easily make our own lunch or dinners. The view from our terrace was incredible and the retreat is in a stunning location in the hills. I'd suggest DDG retreats for a relaxing, beautiful couple's holiday.

      Charming place, dismal service

My partner and I chose this place for a romantic week away. The website looked lovely and the place was, indeed, charming.

Each property is individually styled and ours had some wonderful touches. The bedroom was on the mezzanine making it particularly airy, the bath was outside amid tropical greenery and the day-bed was secluded making it all-in-all very romantic.

I wasn't so convinced about this 'spectacular' view. Even before it was blighted by a forest of wind turbines it wasn't that special. Besides, the times and places where you'd most like to enjoy it, such as from the day-bed and the loungers, it's hidden from view by a fence and trees so it's somewhat academic.

The two real detractions about this place though were the kitchen and the service. Unless you're some sort of maestro with the micro-wave you can forget cooking for yourself. There was nowhere to even boil an egg. You can of course mix and match eating in the hotel's own restaurant but that proved even harder. You and your partner have to eat exactly the same thing every course of every meal and there's no compromise on that - they wouldn't even let me have melon instead of prawns for a starter.

And then there's the extra charges. Even before we went there we were being up-sold the meals and the spa, not terribly pricey but just a bit pushy. On departure we were charged for everything. We wrongly assumed that the teas and coffees were included. Not a big deal in itself but they didn't like my guestimate of 14 or 15 coffee sachets and went back to the room to count for themselves. Turns out it was only 13. At €1.50 per tea bag and sachet it's an expensive past-time.

The charmless service and lack of view mediate against my recommending this place to anyone. I'm sure there are better. It's only fair to mention that we may have been treated differently for having asked for a travel agent discount but typically that has ensured a higher level of service not lower.

Response from Daria Dubinina - 08/31/2011

      Owner

Dear Dorian, I'm very sorry that you have felt so upset and let down by our 'dismisal' service! Prior to your arrival we have exchanged many mails and I have explained that we ask our clients to choose same set of meals because my mother is the only one who cooks meals for our clients and she would just not manage to cook 4 seperate dishes for our clients. So to keep it fresh and hot we ask our clients to choose same set of meals and we clearly state it on our online menu. You have spent a lot of time on our website prior to arrival and this should not come as a suprise to you .Further more I have sent you a text message and about this and have explained why we served same meals and in order to keep our service good and meals hot but by the sound of it you would have been unhappy about it anyway. We have a list of services and prices in each Casa making it clear about the costs. So if you have been to a Hotel where the mini bar or in room service if free of charge then please do let me know. Prior to your arrival you have stated that you wanted to have dinner and Spa treatments hence my question regarding it during your stay if we should organize something for you. If you remember correctly I have offered you an upgrade cost for casa Oleandro for 50% discount and was very happy to welcome you with us. So apart from the 'awful' and unpleasant suprise for the fact that you have to pay for your drinks at the Hotel and 'no views' as the fence is there to protect your privacy at your house but I'm guessing that if the fence was not there you would have complained about lack of privacy but good views? I hope your girlfriend who has kindly offered to pay for your upgrade and the drinks that you have used did not feel as upset as you feel. We sincerely appologize for not being a great place for you and of course there are better places out there. Kind Regards, Daria

I have never experienced a service and dedication like this. I was setting up a special night for anniversary - everything was organized with flowers, candles, special private dinner - even romantic music from a private cd collection. This place is unbelieveable - run with heart and not for the money. All of this dedication was done for 1 night only - in other places no one would care for a one night payment - but here they do !

Wonderful privacy! Beautiful location. A little bit far away from the rest of the world (but we knew that, and it was def worth the extra few miles).
The street up to the resort is spectacular, but not recommended for sports car since it's quite bumpy. However, our Peugeot 207cc made it up there easily.

      We travel around a lot.
We wanted somewhere special to celebrate 25 years of marriage.
Well, we found it! Here are some people who really want to make sure that your stay is perfect - from the Casas?Villas themselves, down to how you like your eggs at breakfast!
This isn't a 'hotel' experience in the usual sense. It is a quality, romantic secluded set of clean villas set in trees in the hills, away from each other.
At the press of a button however, someone appears to answer any request.

Not sure how to fault it!!

The DDG Retreat is a charming place up in the mountains with spectacular view, beautiful nature and 100% privacy. Every casa is individually furnished with tasteful object from all over the world. The perfect place to relax and calm down from stressy every day life. Big plus: the retreat is family owned and therefore by far nicer than the unpersonal style of affiliated group leadered luxury retreats.

      3 days or perfect relaxation

Left on 06/24/2011 for a stay in June 2011

I will not spend too long describing DDG, as other reviewers have described perfectly the fantastic setting and design of the Retreat.

What I would like to write about is how we felt about our stay as a whole.

From the ideal booking process with Daria, to the wonderful hospitality shown by Alex and and Olga, you really do get the feeling that you are staying at a friends luxury property.

We hardly left the retreat during our 4 day stay. We didn't need to, as there is no better place to relax, chill out and recharge your batteries.

We ate fantastic evening meals courtesy of Olga, and didn't feel the need to seek out restaurants in Casares.

Its funny that you sometimes want to be selfish keep these kind of finds a secret, but its not fair to not let on to everybody how fantastic the place really is.

We will be back later in the year !

      Highly recommended

      A seriously classy boutique hotel

Left on 06/15/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Just outside the andalucian town of Caseres, the DRR is a small, seriously classy boutique hotel, offering complete privacy for those who require it. Guests with mobility problems should note that the Retreat is located at the top of a mountain, the final section of the drive to the property is challenging whilst the altitude is such that a wooly may be needed for the evenings. In return, the Retreat offers individual "casa" with private plunge pools or jacuzzis, in addition to the main heated infinity pool and spa. There seems to be a piece of sumptuous Moroccan furniture at every turn and jaw-dropping views of the coast, Gibraltar, Tangier and the High atlas mountains beyond. The coast, with an abundance of local restaurants is within 15 minutes drive, with a quiet, clean beach a further 10 minutes south. Golfers will spot the prestigious Finca Cortesin course, venue for the 2011 World Masters, on the doorstep of the Retreat. Olga and alex could not be more pleasant and helpful as hosts, whilst Olga's cooking and the wonderful gardens make it well worth staying in the odd evening. Take plenty of CDs - there are music systems everywhere!

Ddg retreat surpassed all of our expectations.

Left on 06/13/2011 for a stay in May 2011

My wife and I researched several options before selecting the DDG resort to be part of our 10 year anniversary trip. The beautiful pictures and effusive reviews created very high expectations for our stay and we were therefore quite amazed when they were all surpassed.

To start, the resort is every bit as beautiful as the pictures suggest. The grounds are impeccably maintained, the views are stunning and the pool area and fincas are as serene and as spacious (no false perspective!) as they look on the site.
Then there is the experience - Olga, Alex and the DDG team provide something truly special. Discreet, professional and polite, without a touch of pretense. Each day we were more impressed by their attentiveness and courtesy and the overall feel that it created at the resort. Also, do yourself a favor and enjoy their breakfast each morning and have dinner at the resort at least once - Olga is an amazing cook!
A little additional context for this review (lest you think us overly generous reviewers), my wife and I spent our younger years in the service industry and have since enjoyed stays at some fairly exclusive resorts. With those experiences I feel that we have developed fairly particular tastes and this is the first time that we have ever had such a thoroughly perfect experience.

The 'main' pool and spa area is brilliant - we were the only people there at the time which was great, very relaxing and romantic as hoped and the perfect place to unwind and chill out! A fantastic and extremely relaxing holiday

Left on 05/16/2011 for a stay in May 2011

As usual I carried out extensive research and trawled the web trying to find a holiday that would be a bit special, up to my girlfriend impeccable standards, conveniently located and relatively affordable. I seriously did want everything from DDG Retreat and I have to say that we were not disappointed. I have been lucky to have travelled a fair bit in my life and I can confirm that DDG due in large part to the stunning location, fantastic landscaping and interior design never gave us the impression that we were a mere 90 minutes from Malaga airport (It actually felt like we were holidaying in the tropics just without the ocean).

From the very start I was really impressed with the service. Daria (the owners' daughter) is fantastic and is really helpful and managed all our requests perfectly. On arrival we were greeted by Olga (owner) who again is just lovely and who did everything to make sure our stay was exactly liked we hoped.

People obviously have different tastes and whilst some love being waited on hand and foot we much prefer to be left in peace and we can say without hesitation that we thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed and independent experience that we received throughout our stay. Everything is at hand or can be provided but you are never hassled by overly keen / tip hungry waiters.

We stayed 5 nights in Casa Olivo and chose the self catering option, although we could not resist having fantastic dinner at the retreat. We tend to really enjoy cooking wherever we go so just a word of warning to any like minded people, the kitchen is fairly small and only really has the bare essentials so cooking a feast may prove to be a challenge. However, any gripe I had about the lack of utensils was immediately forgotten once I sat out on the balcony with a glass of wine in hand. Quite simply the accommodation and view were fantastic.

The whole 5 days were lovely and very memorable and we are already counting the days to when we can go back.

I highly recommend eating at least one evening meal at the retreat, as Olga is an amazing cook. Blown away!

Left on 12/30/2010 for a stay in November 2010

The DDG website gives one the impression that on top of a mountain, above a small "white village?, within sight of the rock of Gibraltar and africa further beyond, lies a slice of paradise. We questioned how real the image was, and went to see it in person. It turns out that pictures do little justice to this incredible place. The real thing took our breath away. The setting is stunning, and the architecture simultaneously fits the surroundings and astounds.

This paradise has been designed and is managed by a talented and joyful couple who are an absolute pleasure: Olga & Alex.

We were in search of a venue for our wedding. This was perfect. We much preferred DDG to other options, including historic castles, luxury small hotels, and renowned restaurants. We felt a strange sense of comfort at not being presented with a prefabricated 'wedding package', and evidence of the hosts' extremely refined taste and style more than countered their warning that they had never organized a wedding.

Our high expectations were well exceeded, and wedding planning cannot be more personalized or painless. Key items were discussed over email with Daria (hosts' daughter) who was always prompt, responsive, and resourceful. Details were discussed over dinner when we arrived. Olga & Alex personally attended to our every wish, and exercised patience through our frequent indecision. The wedding was beautiful: A joyful sunny morning with our guests, pool-side beauty treatments, a sunset ceremony, a remarkable chef, open-fire paella, authentic flamenco musicians, talented photographer-all in an unbelievably beautiful setting, and with every care taken to make sure that everyone was happy. We have nothing but praise for Olga & Alex, and their marvelous creation. Whether you are planning a wedding or any sort of getaway, you will be delighted by your experience.

A beautiful honeymoon alternative to long flight times & jet lag! Photos looked too good to be true & before I even booked Daria answered all my questions. She also arranged car hire which was faultless & suitable for the last mile which is steep, narrow & rough. The retreat itself is beautiful & you can tell a lot of thought has gone into it. Casa Oleandro, was beautifully decorated with stunning views. Champagne, flowers & grapes were awaiting our arrival. The spa & infinity pool were stunning & we spent a lot of time chilling out there, most of it with us be the only ones. We could choose relaxing music to play over speakers & just chill out. We're not good at tennis & just spent an afternoon having a knock about on the Tennis court but again everything was there that we needed. I loved the fact that everything was available to make our stay perfect. Olga & Alex, Daria's parents, were fantastic hosts being both attentive & discreet. We had a couple of minor issues with the Casa during our stay but these were resolved promptly after telling alex. No fuss or excuses, just a quick resolution & a bottle of champagne to say sorry. If pressed I would say the weather (mid September) was variable, especially due to being in the hills. However on the few seperate days it did rain we drove to Gibralta or Ronda & enjoyed lovely weather. The internet access was too slow to use but as we were on honeymoon this was seen as plus point by my wife! I figure even at maximum ocupancy this would still seem like an exclusive retreat. As it was we hardly saw any of the other guests & it felt like we had rented the whole place to ourselves! Would love to go back for one of our anniversaries!

To fully review Finca Daria would take much too long and readers would probably have switched off before the end. So to put it simply, it was the best true break (10 days) away from life's pressures that we (my wife Sue and I) have enjoyed in almost 40 years and this has included staying in restful retreats in New Zealand, Sri Lanka and nearer home. The welcome, facilities, peace and calm are all as described in the brochures and websites, there is no need to repeat them, just confirm that they are true. Just read the descriptions decide if the location is for you and if so book with confidence. One tip, hire a car with as much ground clearance as possible, our Mercedes 180 grounded out on tarmac roads where heavy lorries had caused ridfes and dips in the surface, we had no trouble on the track up to the property, this was on the more main roads lower down!

This is the place to rest, relax and just 'be'. The owners were discrete yet attentive to our needs and the 5 star touches, champagne, flowers and fruit, a stunning spa and infinity pool in these amazingly tranquil suroundings set this apart from any other vacation we have been on.

      What a view!

We stayed at this resort in March, we had a very relaxing break. The bungalow was very well equipped, a huge bed and very comfortable. It was our anniversary and Daria had left us champagne, fruit and candles, it made our trip really special. I recommend visiting Casares village, a lovely walk to the church. Lots of good restaurants within a short drive, and the views over to the Atlas Mountains and Gibraltar are amazing.
