Looking for a Northwest adventure? This rustic and secluded vacation rental retreat has lots of amenities to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. Set on the edge of 300 miles of woods, this vacation rental cabin will be your cozy haven after a long day of exploring the Cascade Locks wilderness, traversing the Bridge of the Gods, or hiking the historic Pacific Crest Trail..which drops you off just steps from your front door!
The single level, two bedroom vacation rental bungalow has been completely refurnished and has a "bear cabin" theme; in honor of the black bear who hibernated several winters in the woods behind the house. Big E...d the(wooden)bear will welcome you upon entry, as will the comfortable sofa and the brand new 32" flat screen TV. Relax and discuss the highlights of the day, or curl up with one of the DVDs or a books provided for some entertainment.
Head into the compact, yet well-stocked, kitchen when it's mealtime. You'll find all the baking and cooking utensils you'll need, along with a microwave, coffee maker, and plenty of pots and pans. Feeling creative? Feel free to reference one of the many cookbooks provided to whip up a unique masterpiece. The wooden dining table is set for four, yet offers additional chairs to seat eight.
When it's time for bed, you'll find two bedrooms; each with brand new beds and bedding. The back bedroom holds a comfy king-sized bed, and the front room holds two twins. Combined with the queen-sized sofa bed in the living room, the home can sleep six comfortably. In the colder winter months, feel free to use the electric heater and/or electric blanket provided, although the central heating should keep you plenty warm.
The single full bathroom contains a stand alone shower, as well as plenty of plush new towels and wash cloths. While there is limited hot water in the bathroom sink, you'll have plenty of it available for hot showers at the end or beginning of your day. Grab bars by the shower and toilet make it a bit easier for elderly guests to move around.
A brand new energy efficient washer and dryer will help keep up with the laundry, and the utility room in the back of the house could act as a great boot storage space as well.
Cascade Locks is regarded as the gateway to Hood River County. Surrounded by the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, it is renowned as a stellar place for sailing and windsurfing. But that's not all! In addition to its own airport, Cascade Locks has great dining, a marina and boat launch, grocery stores and shops. For sailors, there are the Columbia Gorge Racing Association Regattas.
Cyclists can show their stuff on the Cascade-to-Crown Bicycle Ride. At Marine Park, you can hop on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler and experience the river the way old timers like Mark Twain did. Or, head over to the Historical Museum and check out the artifacts, photographs, and history of the region.
Cascade Locks is the lowest point on the Pacific Crest Trails, a journey that takes hikers from the Mexican border in California to the Canadian border. Each August, the city hosts a fundraiser for the trail on Thunder Island in the Columbia. If you're around in November, kick-start your holiday spirit with the annual "Lighting of the Bridge," when the structure is decked out in its holiday garb. In December, the city finishes its Christmas decorating with its "Festival of Light."
