I travelled to Panama with 5 adult family members so we needed a place that was comfortable, inexpensive and accessible to sights, restaurants, shops and that allowed us places to gather to coordinate our days. We did not want a typical name brand hotel and wanted a place that allowed lots of walking. Casa Sucre is a converted convent in Casco Viejo section of Panama City, run by a very nice and interesting couple . The place is beautifully renovated and decorated and features one section ustairs with several beautiful rooms (with double beds) facing an exterior balcony and on the ground floor, at least one apartment with a loft bedroom on the upstairs part and a sofa bed and kitchen downstairs. There is an enclosed courtyard downstairs and a common room upstairs, where coffee and bread were served in the morning and where the tour and business center is. The building was a little hard to find at first coming from the airport because the streets are narrow and crowded on weekend nights, so do not be fooled by how simple it appears to be on a Google map. Many of the streets are one- way making it a bit tricky to find. Make sure to get good route info including landmarks, etc... before leaving (if you drive here). Otherwise, they do have airport transport if you stay a certain # of days. The area is perfect--lots of cafes, historical sights and shops nearby, walking distance to avenida Central for shopping and local non-touristy flavor. It is blocks from the Presidential Palace . The owners arranged several tours for us, and even escorted us personally to some locations. The hotel owns its own van that can accommodate at least 6. There are lots of stairs to traverse in Casa Sucre, so if you have difficulty with this, this may not be the place for you, but this is fairly typical of these types of hotels around the world. It is a price you pay for character. I could go on, as we loved this place and really felt as if we were visiting family.
Great Location, Responsive Staff, Quality Accomodations

Booking Casa Sucre sight unseen, I was admittedly anxious to see the accommodations. But as soon as i walked into the property I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. The website does not do the property justice! We were also lucky in that breakfast was served the weekend I arrived, and it was top-notch.
The service and professionalism of the staff was well above average. In fact, staff can take care of anything you may think you need while you're enjoying your vacation. I literally felt like I had a personal concierge.
The location was great . . .convenient to many restaurants and Casco Viejo attractions and minutes to other attractions in Panama City. I walked around at night in the areas south of the property and never felt unsafe as the police presence is very high in this area due to the Presidential Palace being so close to the property.

I stayed in Casa Sucre with my husband and baby. Even if there was no
breakfast available yet, the helpful staff made up for it. They accommodated
us with everything we needed, especially the ones for our baby. When we
asked about where to have breakfast, Elias took us to the restaurant. Tomas
did the same when we asked where to have lunch. They need not do these
things, but they went out of their way to help us. We were very comfortable
and the location of the hotel made it very convenient for us to see the spots in
Casco Viejo. We will definitely recommend Casa Sucre to our friends who wish
to visit Panama City someday.

I have stayed in many Casco Viejo apartments over the years and more recently at the Canal House which is an excellent botique hotel, but often with limited availability. This brought me to Casa Sucre's calicanto room. The apartment was very nice, clean and comfortable. Tomas was very helpful as well including help with printing a boarding pass and even accompanying me to the market to get a new hubcap for a rental car. The price vs value was very reasonable as well. Thanks Casa Sucre.

If you aim to stay on a low budget in Casco Viejo in Panama City don´t hesitate to check in at this new small boutique style "hotel". They have few rooms which enchant you with its colinial style and flair right in the centre of Old Town. The bath room might be too small but the entire building is clean, modern and charmfully decorated! You feel like "home" upon arrival after a long flight and if you are lucky the owner will be on-site and spoil you with excellent service and breakfast treatments (not standard yet). Even though we were one of the first couples staying at Casa Sucre after the opening in December 2009 we really recommend this place if you want to get value for your money with treatment of a 5-star hotel (if the US owner are in town)! We are sure it will even get better...

Nice place in the middle of Casco Viejo. One of the few reconstructed houses
on the small but very noisy square. It's called bed and Breakfast but there is no
breakfast served. In fact Casa Sucre is still under renovation. They are building
a cafe, repainting walls doors, etc. Rooms are very clean, but beds are too
small for 2. They are waiting for new furniture to arrive soon. But all this is
compensated by warm welcome and good care you receive from manager
