      Pinolo - best kept secret

Left on 09/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We stayed at Pinolo last summer and would highly recommend it. The location is excellent - within walking distance of the local village, and right in the heart of Tuscany. The family who own the property were incredibly welcoming and one evening we were brought homemade cake and a bottle of their own wine. Delicious. Having the pool also helped hugely on hot days. We will definitely return.

The ideal spot for a visit to Tuscany

Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Situated in the heart of Chianti in Tuscany, this villa is in walking distance of a lovely village with restaurants and a weekly BBQ on the village plaza which is a must! The hosts are most welcoming and the Pinolo villa offers excellent views! Great sightseeing in the region. The hosts wine is worth the purchase. The outdoor pool is large and always clean. We are looking forward to returning.

Great Pool and views to San Gimignano

Left on 11/14/2010 for a stay in July 2010

We stayed in Pinola with our 3 sons, 20, 18 and 12 for a week. The weather was very hot so the pool was well used and necessary. The pool was also a great meeting place for the guests and we found 2 couples that had stayed there more than once so that is always encouraging! When we went out for the day we could keep the apartment cooller by shutting the shutters. Unfortunately there was only one small fan in the boys room - need at least another one for the main bedroom too as sleeping at night was hard when it was so hot and no breeze. The owners dont speak English which is a bit awkward as you cant ask them for any local knowledge etc. and the local tourist office had closed down! They made themselves fairly scarce so if you have a problem you have no one to ask (or try to ask!) Despite this they were hospitable and friendly and gave us 2 bottles of their homemade wine to try. Our apartment had wonderful distant views to San Gimignano and overlooked the pool area. It was quite spacious and the boys shared the 2nd bedroom in a queen and a foldout bed. The farm is on the edge of a small hill town, Casole d'Elsa, which has most essential services, eateries etc. We were there for their Paolo which was a treat too. Ps The logia was right outside the owners door so we didnt like to use it - preferred to take our wine etc down to the terrace overlooking the pool.

The perfect holiday - well almost, but nothing's perfect

Left on 10/12/2010 for a stay in August 2010

Very spacious accommodation and a great pool. The house is beautifully located with a view from the main room of San Giminignano on the opposite side of the valley (don't look too hard through the trees to your left or you'll see that the valley is full of factories, warehouses and building units but they are not noisy nor discharge steam or smoke). The flat is well appointed, despite some irritating lack of details (such as only one set of bowls and cutlery etc so the dishwasher has to go on daily). There is no mention in the website description that there is no oven, just a gas hob (4 burners) and a microwave. Use of the washing machine is charged for, again despite the inaccurate description on the website that it's a weekly freebie. Really peaceful during the day, though the lack of birdsong is an eerie reminder of the Italian taste for shooting and cooking songbirds, while the nearby (but unseen) estate has children playing noisily outside up to midnight. Very friendly owners but you do have to be able to speak Italian if you want to get beyond the daily greeting, e.g. asking for a light bulb, toilet brush or getting a faulty microwave replaced - all of which to be fair were done speedily and without question. Beautiful little town of Casole d'Elsa up the hill; local supermarket between house and the town is better than the rather poor review it's given on the website - the one thing it lacks is a choice in fresh meat. Surrounding towns and villages are all worth a visit, despite the corkscrew hills you have to drive up, and we had just a couple of hours rain in a fortnight. Can't complain about that! Enjoy!

      A wonderful visit to Tuscany

Left on 10/11/2010 for a stay in June 2010

You know that scary feeling you get when you book accommodation on the internet that looks wonderful in the photos, but you're sure it couldn't possibly be that wonderful? Well, rest assured, Pinolo is wonderful! Charming hosts, beautiful, quiet, relaxed setting, yet still close to village. We stayed in the two bedroom upstairs apartment. Very clean, rustic and charming. I will always remember the view from the upstairs window - you can see the towers of San Gimignano in the distance. So many beautiful places to visit nearby, beautiful Tuscan countryside. We'll be back!

      Fantastic Stay

Left on 11/18/2009 for a stay in August 2009

We were heartily welcomed by the owners, whose grasp of English was only marginally better than our Italian, but after creating a raport with suitable "thumbs up" hand signals to indicate our pleasure with the appartment, she moved on to describe the operation of the dishwasher in Italian, which was probably a little over-optimistic.

The Apartment was just perfect for 4 and had plenty of space in the lounge/dining area for relaxing out of the sun.

Breakfast was often taken on the patio area overlooking the countryside - just fabulous

After a quick swim in the "its alright once you are in" pool, it was down to some serious sunbathing on the loungers - and there are more than enough for everyone.

Lunch by the pool on a table conveniently located under a shady pergola with even better views and San Gim in the background

Afternoons spent relaxing - although sometimes interspersed with awesome thunder and lightning over the valleys!

Locals towns provide a good evenning entertainment, even Casola D'Elsa seemed to have enough going on to keep us going back, despite its small size.

This place has everything you need for a quiet week or so, but a car is a must for getting about and shopping, the local supermarket and shops are limited.

Fantastic holiday made even better by the welcoming owners - evn turned up with free homemade pizza and wine at 11pm one night, which we ate and drank in the moonlight!

      We would return tomorrow
