Gail and T.J.'s review of Casa Luciana

Left on 10/20/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Our large group greatly enjoyed our stay in the villa. It served as a hub for each group as we fanned out on day trips. It was always a pleasure to return to the comfort of the villa at the end of the day.

We appreciated the various living areas and the comfort of the bedrooms and baths. We enjoyed cooking for ourselves most evenings, but we did have the property's cook, Dora, fix us two lovely meals. We were surprised to learn how inexpensive her services were.

We greatly enjoyed the views of the surrounding countryside from the villa. The pool area was beautiful but a bit too cool for use in early October. We enjoyed exploring the smaller towns in the immediate area as well as some of the wineries in Chianti.

      Excellent. 10 out of 10.

Quiet and peaceful, situated on a hilltop with magnificent views in all four directions, an infinity pool, a beautiful facility of about 4,500 square feet, and best of all--Dora for eight 5-course dinners. The average costs for these feasts was about 22 Euros per couple.

Small Chianti towns were best, but the larger cities of Florence and Siena were a short ride.

Our family of 11 (seven adults and four teenagers) had a wonderful week at Casa Luciana.

The house is spacious, well furnished, very comfortable and has all modern conveniences and appliances.
The dinner prepared by Dora on our first night was excellent.
The infinity pool at the end of the day was a welcome sight.

The privacy, peace and quite, and awesome views particularly at sunset.

Overall, we had an amazing time at Casa Luciana. A beautiful home with amazing views as well as internal spaces. The pool was a thrill. The location perfect for daily sightseeing and private relaxation. The managing staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.

Wow, I struggle to keep my comments brief. The house is huge, well kept, but welcoming. The surrounding countryside is extraordinary - every window has a view! The pool is gorgeous - such a treat to swim every day.

Such small quibbles, but please ask the owners to get rid of the yellow coffee pot - it leaks terribly and one of our guests received a nasty shock! Also, the downstairs bathroom window is broken and made for some noisy nights.

A wonderful location for exploring Tuscany. A gracious, relaxing, well appointed home to return to. A well stocked kitchen, lovely to cook in.

We had a wonderful time at the villa. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was one person who spoke English which facilitated our checking in and learning all the necessary info for operating there. He answered all questions patiently and with genial courtesy.

The view was amazing. From the top of hill one saw vineyards and olive groves all around. No noticeable people activity nearby. Just distant farm equipment moving along. So scenic. We walked out early every day just to see the sun move along the vistas.

The kitchen had no light directly over the sink where needed to ensure clean dishes!

Access to many hill towns within an hour to 1 1/2 hours. We loved going into Castellina in Chianti for breakfast or for grocery shopping. The people were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed laughing with folks as we attempted communication over artichokes, wines, olive oils, directions!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location was great, the villa was lovely with recently updated bathrooms and furnishings, the pool was a blessed oasis and, then, those views! We'd definitely return.

How to choose? Top three would be the pool, the views and air conditioned bedrooms. And let's not forget Dora, our cook.

      The pillows. A minor point.

Castellina in Chianti is a darling town with a couple of top-notch restaurants and some very nice local wines. The villa is also close to Siena, San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni - all worth visiting. The villa's name-sake vintage is produced just across the road where you'll find friendly folk eager to share some wine with you.

This was our second week in Tuscany and we had more family join us at this property. The place was phenomenal. We had 11 people total, including 5 children - 3 under the age of 2. The place was so large we actually had 3 empty bedrooms with queen size beds and full baths. This villa could easily accommodate 15 guests.

The villa itself was magnificent, it was beautifully restored from it's original building and the layout was perfect for a large group. The infinity pool was spectacular and we spent a lot of time enjoying it as well as the covered outside area with lounge chairs and tables in the front of the villa.

The place was quite large, so it would probably be difficult to air condition the whole house. The bedrooms had air conditioning units, but with it being summer and above 90 degrees, it would be nice to have some air conditioning or fans in the larger living areas.

Every little town in Chianti was wonderful. We did day trips each day to various places such as Radda, Greve, Castellina, and Monteriggioni. These places were all within 25 KM of our villa and definitely worth the trips!

The overall experience was very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable vacation.

The house was very well maintained and very well constructed. The floor plan was awesome and it was so quiet for sleeping. The dining room was wonderful. Every bedroom was first rate. The kitchen was small and a little dark. The various utensils were spread over four rooms and not convenient for cooking. We really enjoyed the covered outside recreation area and the infinity pool had fantastic views of the vineyards and olive groves. There were panoramic views - 360 degrees - and from every window in the house.

The kitchen was small, dark and poorly organized, albeit well equipped. The TV was not good for anyone wanting to watch things in English. Not having a dryer is a pain. The kitchen had virtually nothing... no salt, pepper, paper towels, napkins. Whoever is cleaning the place is really cleaning up because we left a lot of items that should just be left for the convenience of others...spices etc. The house is not that attractive from the outside but the inside more than makes up for it. The driveways going in need some work. Our cars kept dragging because the roads needed to be graded.

The views were wonderful; you had lots of privacy only being able to see a few other villas on far away hill tops. There are wonderful herb gardens on the propety for cooking and wild pheasants are abundant. There was a lovely town with a nice grocery store, beautiful streets and shops nearby, as well as world class wineries all around. Definitely the place to go for the wine aficionado.

It turned out better than we thought and ended up being the highlight of our 4 week trip to Europe and the Med! I would highly recommend this property to others looking to experience Tuscany but still wanting some creature comforts like modern bathrooms - 7 of them in all - and large bedrooms!

Everything about the Villa was at or above our expectations. The building is hundreds of years old but completely remodeled 3-4 years ago. Plenty of space for 10-12 people and 5 bedrooms had large en suite baths and queen beds. 3 separate living rooms mean you can "get away" if you want to. The outdoor room was used a lot before and after dinner. The location is perfect for privacy but only 4kms from 2 good sized villages.
We used the available cook for 3 nights and the 5 course meals were very good and economical!
The pool is not heated, so even though it was in the high 20's C only a few brave people swam daily.

      That we had to leave!

The view, the peace and quiet, the walk to Lilliano, the atmosphere and dining in Castellina in Chianti closest village, the winery at Lilliano with it's great wine.

There were three couples in our house and we certainly could have had two more couples stay due to all of the wonderful space in the house. Be sure and ask for Dora to cook a meal or more for you while there. She is a wonderful cook, she sets the table, cooks, serves, and cleans it all up. She speaks no English, but we all did just fine with lots of smiles and gestures. Her rates are very reasonable and it is so nice to have a meal right there at the house and not have to drive afterwards.

There was an incredible view from every window and outdoor space at Liliano. We all six felt that it was so peaceful and the perfect way to be in the Chianti area.

This was such a good location for travelling to many of the other wonderful towns in this area.

I would recommend this property to couples or an extended family without hesitation.
The property is newly finished, very well equipped, set in stunning scenery, is nearby to many small towns and is easily accessible from Florence or Sienna.

Casa Liliano was a beautiful property. Each bedroom had its own large, new and clean bathroom and many also had a private sitting area. The house was arranged so that many couples or several families could share the house and still have their own private areas. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and the outdoor seating and eating area was lovely. The infinity pool is gorgeous and very refreshing on hot sunny days. The views from the house and pool are stunning. Extra care went into renovating and finishing this property: the shutters, hardware on doors and windows, floors, fireplaces were all top quality. The house stayed cool inside on hot days, so we did not use the air conditioning, but there were individually controlled air conditioning units in each bedroom. We had no toddlers or infants in our party, but there was a crib and high chair provided for those who need baby care items.

It did not bother me, but there were no screens on the windows and so bugs flew into the house daily. These were swept up by the daily housekeeping -

Wow - the surrounding countryside was unbelievably lovely. This home is in the center of Chianti and the rolling hills and countryside were breathtakingly beautiful. My husband is a road biker and he was in heaven biking the hills daily.

The spaciousness, which made all four couples feel that they had private accommodations, plus the wonderful views from the top of the hill. The availability of Dora, the cook, with her great Tuscan recipes was a wonderful extra. She cooked us two terrific meals and charged only the actual cost of groceries which she bought, plus 15 euros per hour for her time, which was about three hours each meal. We tipped her 30 euros, and when she objected that it was too much, we said per amore! She smiled and accepted graciously.

Have nothing of note to complain about. Some of our party would have preferred screens on the windows, but that's Italy! We did see some pretty interesting bugs when we left windows open at night with lights on.

The natural beauty of the Chianti hills, and the fact that we just happened to hit the start of the wine grape harvest, and could see all the pickers and the tractors pulling trailers full of grapes going by on the road below the place.

We were so impressed with the property and with the attentive maintenance it received. Our villa was thoroughly cleaned every week day at a time we chose which was very accommodating. We also had someone stop by to make sure the pool was clean and working in proper order. I chose this property for ourselves and 3 other couples and I ended up quite the hero for selecting this property! It really was a perfect experience!

We loved everything about the property. It was set atop a hill overlooking the vineyards of Tuscany - what's not to love? The infinity pool was stunning. The spaciousness of the villa itself was wonderful. We also loved that each bedroom was very large with a dressing room and it's own private bathroom.

I really can't say there was anything we disliked.

There were a lot of wineries close by so we could stop by and sample wine on our way back from our day of exploring the nearby hill towns.
