"Simple and Lovely" Borgo Tranquilita is a charming peaceful and quiet "village" of three cottages set amongst some of the most spectacular scenery that makes Tuscany one of the stunning places to visit. The Valley of Chio - is one of the most charming in Tuscany. When the Medici Dukes succeeded in taking Castiglion Fiorentino, the Duke inquired the name of the valley below the town. Told it is called Valle di Chio, the Duke replied, it is better "Valle di Dio" God's Valley .
Umbria lies to the east and Tuscany is to the west making this a perfect location for visiting the towns and cities of both regions. Whether you plan to try some Pecorino from Pienza or some of Tuscanyβs famous wines or discover the antiquities of Arezzo, the treasures of Cortona, Montepulciano and Siena or the tranquility that is Assisi β even a day trip to Florence - (an hour by train) - these are just a few ideas to contemplate whilst you sit back and relax by the private pool and contemplate tomorrow.

HoveRelaxing and enjoyable family holiday
Left on 10/01/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Our cottage, Le Stelle, (the stars) was perfect for the four of us (we and. our children 10 and 13 ).
The cottage was comfortable clean and tidy. our private terraces were also perfect for us to enjoy outside eating and as a quiet spot to read or - little work (sorry) as it has good Wifi.
The children enjoyed the company of the others in the adjacent cottages and we parents also had time for ourselves. The pool was the main meeting place, lots of seating and sun loungers and big enough for us all to enjoy. Besides a huge pizza/stone oven we each had our own barbecues. Only one of our neighbours used the large oven - for pizza warming!
The area offers many attractions,, fairs and patents. Cortona and Castiglion Fiorentino had a medieval fair and in arezzo there was a huge antiques/flee market which we managed on the way back to Pisa airport. The local restaurants - all family friendly and serving excellent local food.
The hosts played an important part. Their English rep was on hand if needed (a phone call away) and for us this was very helpful as he helped plan a day to Florence - without having to queue - thank you terry. There were also a coup,e of issues with a few things missing (a cork screw and a lightbulb), but he had both sorted very quickly.
A very pleasant spot to relax and enjoy the country life of Tuscany. Great views and sunsets all worth while (even if the white road was a little long at first), and the great walks around the area too.

Left on 08/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We stayed in the smallest house on this property. Charming, clean and comfortable with a great pool, a nice view and plenty of nices spaces to sit and relax. It was perfect for our little family to relax after a long year of school and work. We've had a great 2 weeks! But, we are just to go camping ... so this was pure luxury to us .. However, with just a little bit more attention form the owners for the pools' water (i.e. cleaning and maintenance) and some minor adjustments to the house (i.e. a new showercurtain, a lightbulb just above the stove so you can see what you are cooking, some new sheets and matresses) and the road (i.e. adding stones) this place can be a real paradise!

Left on 08/18/2012 for a stay in July 2012
A much needed sunshine vacation for the family. Our two weeks here were very enjoyable and we and the children made new friends.
the cottage is charming, and as we expected, comfortable bed and nice rooms. Outside the terraces was very relaxing for our meals and the barbecue gave us the opportunity to try the famous fiorentino beefsteak.
The pool was fun for the children and relaxing for us and the setting wonderful. A lovely place for us and we are happy to tell our friends.

Gorston. Our family holiday at Il Bogo
Left on 08/10/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We were really looking forward to getting away from all the rain in the UK and having two weeks of warm sunshine and relaxation. We found a great place in Il Borgo and came away feeling relaxed and re- discovering summer!
Our cottage here was very pretty, clean and comfortable. There are three cottages here - however the 'design' of the village meant that we had our own space and the outside terrace was perfect for private family meals and to sit a read in the shade. The lovely pool area is with its views seem to change and get better each day. A new Pergola has been erected giving a better view of the valley.
If anything, the only (initial) worry was the white road, but once done it was very easy thereafter and we shared the driving.
Local restaurants are good value. The closes about mile and a half (valley restaurant) served great pizza for the boys and we had one of the best steaks - with a truffles grated over the top! We tried to replicate this at one of our Bbqs, but decided the local know best!
All in all a fab time.

GuildfordLittle 'peace' of Heaven !
Left on 08/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We stayed in the farmhouse for a week with our children 7 and 9 years old. The location was very child friendly. The children especially enjoyed playing the pool. The location is very private. According to the owners this lovely village was saved from extinction some 15 years ago and now offers three really charming oldie worldie cottages. We thought the place lovely and very good value.
The cottage, Le Stelle, was cool and cosy, although the pool is heaven! and we spent most of our time outside either there or at our private terrace. Tempting though it has been to stay there all day, we "forcedβ ourselves away to visit some lovely towns and villages including Pienza and Cortona.
The hospitality and friendship have been very much appreciated. The hosts and Terry (their agent) excellent. they made us feel rather special; so generous with their time and consideration. Thank you for helping to make our holiday so enjoyable. We shall come back and gladly recommend this little 'peace' of heaven! -

Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012
This was our third visit to Il Borgo which we think of as our home in Tuscany. It was nice too to find a few improvements around the property - wi-fi, thermal pool shower, new gazebo with better views of the valley and additional landscaping.
The place is rustic but has all we need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The rooms are pretty and the outside BBQ and pizza ovens are a great find. The pool is lovely and the perfect place to sip some local wine and watch the sunset. After the sunset, we were entertained by hundreds of fireflies - magic lanterns - which apparently are around for only two or three weeks
The hosts are marvelous and spend enough time to sort out our plans for the two weeks and up date us on the local festivals - The Palio was on during our stay here. This is the smaller version of the famous Palio of Siena, only here you get to "see" the race, the parades and the celebrations in the lovely town of Castiglion Fiorentino.
Our cottage is La Luna, slightly larger than the others (although our first visit we had Il Sole which was very cosy and perfect for the three of us). It has a lovely terrace with amazing views of the valley and a view of the pool through the olive trees.
The road remains a little bumpy in parts, but it does not take much to get used to it and, when you arrive, the views are really breathtaking.
We speak about this place to all our friends and family - and recommend it. We shall be back for our 4th visit next year

KnaresboroughCozy cottage
Left on 04/15/2012 for a stay in October 2011
We stayed here in October and were delighted with the setting and the peace and quiet. The location is secluded and very private,
The cottage/house was warm and cozy and the wood burning fireplace was a real treat for us. The lounge and bedrooms are comfortable and homely and the kitchen has everything to prepare fabulous Italian feasts. There was just the two of us, but this cottage (luna) had plenty of space for more.
We enjoyed the outdoor space - the terrace overlooking the pool (too cold to use) was a real treat as we were able to use it a number of days for lunch. The views of the surrounding hills and the valley are just wonderful. There are many walks within the property's parameters and beyond many walkways to explore the countryside - dotted with many locals harvesting their olives.
Just a few kms down the road from here is the olive press where we went along to watch the process of olives transformed into fresh olive oil! The owner of the cottages gave us a bottle of his fresh oil - telling us not to cook with it, but just to drizzle it on lightly toasted bread... Incredible!
The nearest towns are Castiglion Fiorentino and Cortona which provide many shops, restaurants and bars. In the town there are many larger supermarkets though we tended to shop at the little store at the bottom of the hill (3km) which had a lot of local produce and wine.
Many of the hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria are easily reached by car, and in particular Cortona, Pienza and assisi are well worth a visit.
All in all, a lovely place to get away from it all. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends.

St. LouisRelaxing week in Tuscany;s green valley
Left on 04/14/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We really enjoyed our short stay here. The friendliness and kindness started well before we arrived, lots of information and helping us feel relaxed about our first trip to Europe.
The renovated village has been restored very well while still maintaining the 'old world' charm of a rustic farmhouse. Inside the village there are three units. I think there are two two-bedroom units, and three-bedroom unit. The owners are very friendly and the basket of bread, olive oil and wine were a nice touch.
There is a private terrace area for each unit and the pool is, of course, shared. The time of year we traveled didn't allow us to use the pool but it looked very inviting! The olive groves and garden areas around the village make a very tranquil setting.
The furniture was in good shape and comfortable. Very clean with enough pots, pans and dishes for us to live here comfortably for the week,
The main bedroom was good size with a double bed and the smaller single bedroom was perfect. Bathroom was small but again more than adequate for our needs. The kitchen area is fine for 3 people. There is a stove, refrigerator, sink, coffee maker toaster etc. All the basics you need are there - The larger cottage has a much larger kitchen and dining area. We were invited by our "neighborsβ for a glass of wine and to take a look around.
Of course, the general location provided some marvelous views of the distant town and the surrounding countryside. A very tranquil setting.

Left on 02/28/2012 for a stay in June 2011
Tuscany is a favourite place for us. This was our fourth visit to the area and our first to the val Di Chio - a hidden picturesque valley with amazing views.
The cottage (Luna) had all the essentials for our 2 week stay, the beds were comfortable and the simple furnishings ideal for family vacations. Clean bathroom and kitchen with all the things you expect.
Outside is where it all happens. The views are incredible and sitting by the large pool, occasionally looking out to the valley below and to the distant hill towns was a delight. A chance to relax and enjoy our time as a family. Many walks, and exploration for the children.
Many things around the area, during our weeks, the Palio in castiglion was held. 6 horses and jockeys racing for the pride of thei town "gate" was fantastic along with the medieval parades, flag throwing and displays. the towns of arezzo and Cortona offering many experiences (and shopping), Montepulciano and Pienza were also memorable days out.
The added feel good factor of helpful owners giving their inside knowledge of where to go, what to see etc gave us a head start when planning our days out.

Left on 02/07/2012 for a stay in August 2011
The cottage is set in a wonderful position. surrounded by olive groves and oak trees and some incredible views of the valley.
The cottage was clean and full of Tuscan features and style. And the facilities were perfect for our needs. Outside, the pool and pergola areas were perfect place to gaze at the lovely scenery and enjoy country living.
During our two weeks, we met two lovely families from Holland, Germany and In our final week a young couple from Canada. We enjoyed our privacy and couple of fun afternoons with them
The two owners welcomed us warmly. - one spoke good English and the other a few kind words. Very useful tips on where to tour and local restaurants, shopping and a cooking lesson from a lovely lady in the valley.
More than met our expectations and happy to recommend il Borgo as a good place to stay.

Il Borgo is a really a gorgeous place, lots of character and charm and the views of the valley and the town of castiglione fiorentina were wonderful. The owners greeted us and helped us settle. A lovely gift of olive oil (from the olive groves that surround this place) was left in each of the cottage kitchens along with a welcome bottle of local wine.
My and my sisters family rented all three of the cottages, 9 of us in all. We were offered the use of their additioanl large dining room so that we could all eat together, but the weather was good enough for us to eat out on the terraces overlooking the pool
The cottages were clean, comfortable and simply furnished. The old stone pizza oven was a great find and not just for pizza.
The huge pool has a great setting and big enough for us to enjoy.
The road to the village is a little bumpy on the first day, but no real problem. The closest market was about 2 miles where we also found a nice family restaurant. Cortona, Pienza, Assisi and arezzo were all great places to see.
We thought this a great find we hope to come back again in a year or two. We are happy to recommend it to our friends and their family

We found this wonderful little house by chance while on a touring holiday in September 2011. The owners were very helpful in accomodating us for a last minute booking & prepared the house in a matter of hours ready for arrival - even staying up until after 11pm to greet us at the property. It turned out to be a wonderful find, nestled amongst olive groves on a hillside not far from Castiglion Fiorentino & with great views across the valley from the private pool.
This was the first time we had stayed in this part of Tuscany & although it was an all too brief stay of only 5 days we had plenty to keep us occupied. Blessed with beautiful weather while we were there it was very tempting to spend all our time relaxing by the pool. But we had come here to explore & so tore ourselves away to visit some of the charming nearby villages with their historic buildings & cobbled streets; not to mention great places to buy the local produce, cheeses & meats. A sort of foodies heaven it turned out be. The property is situated along a fairly bumpy road & about 2Km from a local shop, bar, & what turned out to be a wonderful local Pizza restaurant offering excellent food & good value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here & were very sorry to have to leave after our all too brief encounter. -

Our first vacation to Italy. Having read Under the Tuscan Sun, we have always planned to visit this region.
Having spent some time in Cortona, we wanted have time to relax and enjoy the Tuscan scenery - and a pool!
We had two cottages here (La Luna and Il Sole), The apartments were comfortable and clean and had the added benefit of two patios - one for the morning sun and one for the afternoon and evenings when we ae outside enjoying the sunsets.
The apartments are set in real country setting, olives and other vegetation are in abundance and the views are really wonderful. The highlight though was the pool which, for the most part we had to ourselves and this, plus incredibly warm weather made it a great combination! -

Welcome relaxation. After a hectic year of work, this was what we needed to recharge our batteries. Far from noise and distractions made ??it even better. It is away from the city, but a shop and restaurant are about 3-4kms perfect for our needs
For the week, we had the place to ourselves. The beautiful pool surrounded by olive trees - our base for much of the week. The sunsets were fantastic and the walks around the village and its surroundings were great -
The owners were warm and helpful. She gave us some of their own oil and wine to say welcome.
The only minor problem was the white road to the village - although, we became used to it after a day or so.
For us the main reason for choosing this place was quiet and we had found it - in abundance! -

From each room there is a great view and our small terrace was perfect for us to eat and relax.
Rooms were clean and cosy, pretty much all we needed for the week.
The main town is a drive away (4 miles or so), although a bar/store is about 2 miles away as is a new restaurant (great steaks and pasta).
The area is though great for walks and we rented some bikes from town. Ther are about 30 walking/cycle tracks in the valley - some needing more work than others.

An inexpensive find in Tuscany.
A two-week stay here in august 2011 proved better than anticipated. It has lots of charm and its setting meant that my wife and I were able to relax, catch up on a few novels and the children could explore the surrounding area or be safe by the pool.
The apartments are more basic than luxurious, but everything that we needed was at hand and, very comfortable. The owners met us and helped us with our bags and after a brief tour of the apartments left us with a welcome pack describing all the local events and places we might want to visit.
The "localβ shop is about 2 miles from the apartment, and larger markets were fund in the main town of Castiglion Fiorentino (where there is a rail station).
One of the really lovely memories is sitting by the pool, watching the sun set over the historic town of Castiglion and the surrounding valley. The location of the apartment is such that wherever you look there is great scenery to be seen. Marvelous.

This was our first experience of travelling outside the us as a family and we found a little paradise here.
It is a little way from the town (about 4 miles), although there are shops, a bar and a restaurant within a mile where families are welcome and the food home cooked.
This was a lovely plavce to relax and for our family to enjoy themselves around the pool and the many country walks around 'the village'. The three properties are almost interconnected - and each has lots of old world charm. Clean, comfortable and homely.
Most of our afternoons and evening were spent by the pool - just enjoying the (almost) never ending secenry and making use of the BBQ . We did manage to get out to the beaches of Lake Trasimeno and to the Tuscany towns Cortona, Montepulciano, Gubbio and assisi - all wonderful!
The owners greeted us - and gave us a book with details of local information and were genuinely helpful.
This is a nice set up and if anything the only downside was the road to here whcih on first sight was challenging, but much better from day 2.
