Description from the owner
Like many people of today we prefer country life to that of the city.
When we first saw the ruin of our old farm house, my mother and I immediately saw its beauty and my father, an architect, already was able to envision plans to restore it to its original splendor. The project of “Borgo Solario†slowly became a reality.
While renting our apartments we had great experiences knowing people from different countries and habits dreaming about our next trips!
Our farm house is different from the others, We restored all our apartments thinking them to become those where we could live. Actu...Read more

New York City, New YorkBeautiful place, friendly hosts, great location
Left on 01/21/2013 for a stay in September 2012
Borgo Solario is a lovingly restored Tuscan farmhouse. The building was dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone. Everything inside is new. The apartments are spacious and very clean and airy. The kitchen is well-equipped and we cooked there a lot. We enjoyed meeting our fellow guests as well. Michelle and Sergio give a superb outdoor dinner once a week for their guests. The wine and much of the food is from the farm.
Michelle and Sergio were our hosts at Borgo Solario. Michelle's mother, Vera is also on the premises so there was always someone to call on if we needed something. We arrived early and waited on the patio outside while our room was being tidied. Vera brought us a plate of freshly picked figs from the tree in the side yard.
The Chiusi train station is across the street from the Hertz office where Sergio works during the day. The drive from Chiusi to Borgo Solario is about 20 minutes if I remember correctly.
We are from the us and planned a lot of sightseeing day trips. For us Borgo Solario was perfectly situated for trips to assisi, Perugia, Florence, Sienna, and other small towns in Tuscany and Umbria. Some of our fellow guests from France and Germany were there on wine-buying trips.
My husband and I are runners. The gentle hills around the Borgo Solario provided some great workouts with the beautiful fields of Tuscany as a backdrop. (The run from Borgo Solario into the nearby town of San Fattuchio and back is about 3 miles.) I loved running in the morning then changing to my swimsuit and hopping into the pool.
There is a small grocery store in San Fatucchio which we discovered on our second last day. We had been driving into Castiglione del Lago to go to the larger stores there.
I would love to return someday and spend more time. It was a perfect week - and a very good value. -

Our lovely apartment at Borgo Salario exceeded our expectations. It was fully equipped and we cooked there many times. Everything of high quality in the apartment and very, very clean.
What really made it special were the owners. Sergio and Michele speak English very well and her parents are delightful. Sergio took us into Chiusi many times since we didn't have a car and had excellent suggestions on places to see. His engaging personality added laughter to each day. We highly recommend a relaxing stay at Borgo Solario. -

New YorkSerene and Beautiful to get away from the city
Left on 01/19/2012 for a stay in January 2012
First thing: you must have a car. There is no way around it. If you plan on renting a car, keep reading.
Borgio Solario is run by a lovely couple, Sergio and Michelle, as well as a sweet, friendly labrador. The apartments are spacious and well appointed. They are also new, so there is no danger of something going wrong because of the age of the place. They are between Chiusi and Casteliogne del Lago in the countryside of Umbria. It is easy to get to anywhere: Rome, Florence, Perugia, Assisi, Sienna...anywhere nearby, and it allows you the chance to leave the hectic cities and stay in the beautiful quiet of Umbria.
Both Michelle and Sergio are very helpful with tons of suggestions. The pictures are exactly as the place appears, so there is no mystery.
I would recommend this for an experienced traveler who is adventurous. -

Austin, TexasGreat Place to Stay
Left on 11/15/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband and I stayed at the Borgo Solario for nearly a month, and had a wonderful time exploring the area. Our apartment was very attractive and clean with a convenient kitchen and comfortable bed. We cooked there many times during our stay. We visited several towns in the area around Castiglione Del Lago. We loved Chiusi for its impressive museum of Etruscan artifacts, as well as the Etruscan tomb. Arezzo was also a favorite of ours for the beauty of the town. We visited Cortona, Citta Del Pieve, and Corciano, all great little towns that I highly recommend. While staying at the Borgo Solario we visited a vineyard located not far from Castiglione Del Lago, and brought a jug to have filled with exceptional wine directly from a huge barrel. The food in this area of Italy is wonderful. We enjoyed olives grown locally, delicious persimmons unlike any I'd eaten before, and truffles and porcini mushrooms. We can't wait to go back to the Borgo Solario again!

We spent a relaxing weekend here with our two young children. The appartment was lovely and very clean and the owners were charming and helpful and spoke wonderful English and French with us as our italian is still at the very beginner level. Our girls loved exploring the fort at Castiglione Del Lago and we had an excellent meal in a local restaurant. Highly recommended.

We spent two weeks in Borgo Solario, alternating between visiting towns further away in Umbria and Tuscany, visiting smaller villages around Castiglione del Lago, and relaxing around the swimming pool. The appartment was excellent and clean, and the owners are very helpful: Vera, Massimo, Michele and Sergio invited all guests over for dinner so we could get to know each other. Moreover, they recommended us some very good restaurants, as well as some local producers. Highly recommended.

We spent a perfect week in the apartment, very close to the most beautiful places to visit in Italy, with a pleasant pool and garden to rest in the evenings, a lovely pizzeria and restaurant in the nearby village, and the best pasticceria ever to have breakfast in 5-minute drive. What is more, we had extremely kind and friendly hosts with helping a lot when we needed, but never bothering. We were invited to a familiar dinner with the atmosphere and tastes of the traditional Italian family. Thank you again, and we are sure to come back!

Borgo Solario is a lovely place. It is situated in the countryside not far from the Lake Trasimeno. The area is of outstanding natural beauty.
The borgo is beautifully restored and the room we rented was clean and neat. The rooms are equipped with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. There is also central heating in all areas. For summer holiday goers there is also a large swimming pool.
The owners Sergio and Michelle are very helpful and always there to answer any queries.
We recommend Borgo Solario to anyone wishing to visit that area and I will definitely plan another stay there.

Left on 04/26/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Borgo Solario is in a calm rural environment and is perfectly placed for visits to many interesting historical towns and cities in central Italy.
Apartments are comfortable and well appointed, suited to guests who wish to self-cater. The service is friendly and prompt.
We loved the frequent impromptu evening get-togethers hosted by the owners and enjoyed meeting other guests from many different countries.
Coming from australia, we felt as if we were part of the local community and enjoyed spending several months at Borgo Solario. We recommended it to other friends from australia and they enjoyed their Borgo Solario experience.
