This condo was unacceptable. Very old building. Only 1 shower. NO BEDDING FOR PULL OUT BED. Too late the first night to go get bedding. Pull out bed was detached from the sofa frame. Mattress was so bad you got poked with the springs and rolled to the middle. Could not sleep on it. Had to sleep on floor. Hole in stairs outside (made out of thin wood). Terrible gas smell from underneath the building.

While the home is located on a hill (walking shoes a must in Catalina) and the front door took some getting use to when locking it, my family and I had a great time. The open common area and the deck were so lovely and the kitchen had all the necessities to cook up a solid meal. The beds in each bedroom were super comfy and there were extra blankets and heaters/fans if you should need them. And 2 bathrooms in a 3-bedroom home are so necessary.
please note that the bedroom flat screen TV is pretty small but you shouldn't be indoors while in Catalina anyway :)
But the icing on the cake was having Civr offer us a early check in and a late check out. It was very thoughtful and when traveling with your parents the accommodations were very valuable.

We just vacationed on the island and had a wonderful experience. We almost had to cancel our trip due to a sudden death in the family, but Catalina Island Vacation Rentals was sympathetic to the situation and managed to shift our rental date by a few days. The house itself is priced right. It could stand a little updating, but it was clean. I think the house may need a new hot water heater as it took a good five minutes before it would get hot enough to shower. We did notice every evening around the same time a smell of gas/propane. It didn't last long, but was kind of strange. The balcony is a huge plus! It accommodated all of us, plus enough room to dry out our dive gear. I would definitely stay at this rental again.

We just got back from a perfect weekend in Catalina full of golf carts, kayaking, massages, and fun. We had a girls weekend just hanging at the beach and Bbqing at the house. This house fit the 8 of us ladies perfectly with tons of room so we didn't feel like sardines. The beds are comfortable but the couch pull out not so much. It's a quiet little place super close to town and I would probably rent it again if we went back. I liked that it was in the middle between Descanso and town. We brought an aerobed (we had room to inflate a queen size one) so the girls didn't have to sleep on the pull out but there were two blow up ones there. Highly recommend it! It's a little older but clean, comfortable, and roomy!!!
Not the greatest first impression, but we would go back and give

The price was right for three bedrooms. The apartment smelled a little funny (gas leak was discovered later), the bathroom ceiling was moldy, and the toilet backed up twice. Only one of the rooms had a tv. Other than the smell, the place was clean and tidy. We were allowed to check in early and the staff helped us with our issues. Not the greatest first impression, but we would go back and give them another chance.

Overall the property is very nice, clean nice kitchen great patio and grill. I wouldn't say it sleeps 8 tho it has 2 queens 2 full size beds one of which is a sofa bed I slept on the sofa bed and it is very uncomfortable and in fact the middle of the bed is the only place you don't hit a pole 2 people would not make it The weekend we were there was very hot I didn't expect air conditioning but some fans would have been nice I chose this property because it said 2 bathrooms well one has only a tub the other a shower so we pretty much had 1.5 baths I also chose it because it was on the bottom floor not realizing that meant the "basement" we had to haul a stroller up and down very narrow stairs The bedding was clean however the bedspreads are old and stained think it is time for new ones

We stayed on Sumner for a birthday celebration and it was the perfect location. We were walking distance to the golf course and to downtown. We were able to visit everything we wanted within walking distance and rented a cart for 1 hour just to tour the island. The rental home was nice, but really just served as a place for us to have dinner and sleep. It had a grill on a small patio that allowed the four of us to grill out and socialize in the evenings. The reason that we stayed at a home rather than a hotel room was so that we could have a real kitchen, and that saved us a lot of money by cooking our dinner twice. Judging by the cost of the dinner that we ate at a restaurant, we easily saved a couple hundred dollars. We would absolutely stay at this property again.

We had our ups and downs here. I was glad I asked ahead of time where I would pick up the keys since our ferry didn't get in until 7, and apparently after office hours you have to pick up the keys from the taxi dispatch office. No one gave us this information without my asking, however. The home itself was in descent repair; it said it was equipped for up to eight people, but there were strange odds and ends regarding kitchen utensils and dishes for this large of a group. The pull-out couch could not have been more uncomfortable, but that might be to be expected. Finally and most importantly, we did smell gas one night and we called the fire department. We weren't taking any chances as one member of the group is pregnant, and we were glad we called because sure enough there was a gas leak. When I told the lady when I dropped off the keys all I got was a "thank you for letting us know" and a "sorry about that". I guess I was surprised that nothing more was even offered to us. Overall, things were fine but slightly scary.
Great Family Trip

First, I want to say that my family had a wonderful vacation and the size of the property is great! We had three families rent the house. The house is old and definitely needs some updating: lots of chipping paint, damaged tiles, very old furniture (in bedrooms), very old kitchen. For the value though, it was okay. I still thought $1000 for 3 nights is definitely pricey but when broken down, it cost each family a little over $100/night which isn't too bad...but again, we're in Catalina where "values" are hard to come by. Also, the linens and towels were extremely old and in need of replacement. I will say, that the property, even with is cosmetic deficiencies, was very very clean - and I'm a freak about cleanliness. Also, the deck was very relaxing and really added to the enjoyment of the stay. All of my family agreed that when we come back to Catalina (which we intend to because we had so much fun) we would definitely consider staying at this house again. It was comfortable for all of us and luckily, we are not overly picky people and can overlook some cosmetic issues.
I will say, though, that if you are looking for luxury, this is not the house but if you are looking for a comfortable place, that is quiet and close to the shore this is it. Look around at other places and you'll find that this one has a deck - you want this so you can relax outdoors and take in the fresh sea air. Also, you want a bbq - cooking at the house saved us about $500 for the weekend. Read more

We were a group of young USN ladies and gentlemen on a vaccation. The houses we rented (top and bottom floor) were adaquate for our needs but there was an issue with the bbq gas lines leaking gas, so we were unable to use them. We were also told to keep it down by the neighbors before quiet hours when we were as a group having adult conversations. Catalina Island Rentals was accomadationg in the check-out time since we were not leaving until the evening ferry, however we did get an extra evening for Thurs nights stay that we did not use due to the sailors getting off work late. We should have been informed in advance of the closeness and echo of the neighborhood, so theat we could have choosen a place that wouldn't have disturbed the neighbors so much. Read more

Thanks for your response. With regard to quiet hours this is strictly enforced by our city. Many time our staff may stop by to give you a friendly reminder. We want your stay to be enjoyable but we do have to take in to consideration the noise level and its impact on surrounding properties.

New deck makes all of the difference
Left on 08/04/2010 for a stay in July 2010 | Catalina Visitor
We have rented this house before and had stopped renting it for a few years because the Owner was not keeping the place maintained. Then they completely redid the deck and the exterior of the house, so we tried it again. The deck is wonderful. Now, they need to redo the interior, especially the stove, which is old, and has to markings on the knobs, which is an accident waiting to happen.
First time renting a house, it worked very well.

The house is a bit old and funky but was perfect for the cost and convenience compared to renting 3 motel rooms. The deck is a lifesaver for a large group, room to get-a-way.

As an avid visitor to Catalina, when the topic of a rewards trip for Girl Scout
2231's Silver Award came up, Catalina was the first destination discussed. I
contacted a local Catalina realtor who hooked us up with a darling duplex on
Maiden Lane with a "killer" view of Avalon that accommodated all 12 of us. The
trip was a 24 hour action packed adventure that included eating, shopping,
sight-seeing and a trip to the new Zip line. For some, it was a first time trip.
For others, it was returning to a favorite destination spot. For all of us, it was
fun, fun, fun! See you in July if not sooner.

Houses were perfect... great views, great decks, comfy and clean. Wonderful location, close to everything. Rental company helpful and friendly. We used both units, had 14 adults, two toddlers and a baby. Perfect for us!!
Only problem was the neighbor.... we tried to respect the 10:00 curfew, speaking quietly when on the decks, but still were called three times during the week...
If you go to bed at 10:00 on vacation, these are the houses for you. If you like to stay up later, rethink this location. Or stay inside and be very very quiet... Apparently the neighbor complains every time someone stays there.
The only other complaint I have is that there weren't enough towels for the week, and we had to pay $20.00 per unit to get more. Bring a few extras of your own.
Otherwise a wonderful week on Catalina!!

We love Catalina Island, so be sure to visit. We did not love this house and we did not love the rental company. This house does not accomadate 8 people. The futon does not work. The owners fix it idea was to fill the closet with air matresses and no way to blow them up. We blew one up with our own air only to have it deflate within an hour. The carpets are filthy and will turn your feet black if you are bare foot in the house. When we complained to the rental company they sent a maintenance guy over 36 hours later. He dry chem cleaned the carpets it did not work. The cd/stereo system the ad says the home has is a portable boom box with no electric cord and no batteries. The oven has no numbers on the dial so good luck baking! 2 out of the 3 beds in the house are so uncomfortable we all went with very little sleep. We were actually blowing up the air matresses to put on the beds when we discovered they were useless. We napped in the sand at Descanso Beach, it was more comfortable. The rental company should not be misleading their customers the way the ad for this home does. We do recommend the Lobster Trap restaurant it Rocks! As far as this house goes rent another one!

The house was nice from the outside, we got confused when we had to enter the house from the back though. We like the outside dock and the double doors to enter the house was very nice. But when we entered the house it seem really out of date, the kitchen needed some renovation and new appliances. It was hard to cook on the old stove with no reading on any of the nobs. We didn't like the furniture's in the rooms because they seem really old. And there were NO locks on any doors at all including the bathrooms! So it felt like we didn't have any privacy.

If you are going to Catalina with kids and you are not using the facility
for more than basic sleeping and eating arrangements its is fine,
however, that too was compromised as this unit sits a short distance
above a cantina that has loud, blaring music well into the wee hours.
We stay on Catalina Island every summer for a week, and have tried
many different locations. We had hoped that this rental would be up
above the noise and car/foot traffic of the main street - Crescent - but
it was still pretty noisy. If you like quiet nights I recommend farther
away from town, if you like to run back and forth from the beach and
shops, and enjoy the boisterous night life than this will suit you.

The home was in fine shape, not great shape but just fine for Catalina standards. I was a little put off by the rental agency at the beginning. They felt overly strict with there rules and regulations, but in the end the experience was positive. I would rent here again.
