Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in April 2013
This was our first time staying in a rental any where but the flats . We choose this because we didn't know what the weather would be and we knew the view would be fun no matter what . The house is really so so . The remodel kitchen is nice but youll be buying some basic and watch out for the stove and oven ,seems it has a mind of it own .Bedrooms are just ok , baths are better and the place is clean . Hey it's Catalinia , you can have a great time staying in a tent . Civr as usual is a progressive , professional , efficient and freindly Rental Company that's hard to beat !

Huntington BeachSpectacular view and cozy home.
Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We enjoyed our stay at 176 Middle Terrace very much. The home had a very nice, spacious kitchen and a view no one could peel their eyes from. The second floor also has a view off two of the queen bedrooms. The home was very quaint and perfect for our little birthday celebration. I didn't mind the 150-step hike to the place as it was good forced exercise, and appreciated the fact that the home was walking distance from the town so we didn't need to cab or golf cart it all the time. I didnt mind the old vintage style of the home either, we were able to get warm water and the kitchen had many amenities. I would recommend bringing warm clothes to sleep in though since it can get cold. Best staycation ever!

Everything was great, the only reason I'm not rating this with 5 stars is if you don't have a cart it makes for quite a hike, but that's the reason it has such a great view.
The cleanliness is rated average because the carpet could use a good cleaning. -

San DiegoBirthday Party in November
Left on 12/06/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We stayed in the home for a birthday party with two copules and few friends. We had a great time. Obviously the view is amazing. The first day we sat on the balcony and soaked it in. Our 2nd day, we sat out there in the morning for another couple of hours and just enjoyed. It was many of our first times to Catalina and we had the best time. The home is well equipped and comfortable. The stairs to the home were not a problem (we are all in our 30's and didn't have children with us) and you can always take a cab when you have luggage, groceries or children.

EddyAmazing View, Great Rental Company
Left on 09/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012
I come to Catalina every year, and was especially excited this year because I had decided to rent this house. Although it is a bit smaller than a 5 bedroom should be, it's completely comfortable for 10 people. The furniture is a bit dated, and carpet could use a steam cleaning, but the kitchen is very modern with an excellent stove for cooking meals for a large group. However, if your considering renting this house, all of the above really shouldn't matter to you. This place is all about the deck and the view and everyone knows it. It's the place to be in the house, and frankly, with a BBQ, lawn chairs, and plenty of room for the whole family, why would you want to be anywhere else?
In closing, the house is a bit pricey per night if you ask me, but with a few extended family members or friends pitching in this house is well worth the price. I look forward to renting it again!
Oh, and the rental company, Catalina Island Vacation Rentals, is amazing. I can't say enough good things about the manager Phil and my booking associate Chey. Both were extremely helpful, understanding, and friendly. 5-stars and a hi-five to them! -

We came to Catalina for a wedding and definitely plan on coming back. In fact I looked to see if I could rent the same house in a month and you were sold old out. It was very easy to check in and out. Grateful the cabs can get up there for our luggage. The view was fabulous and we enjoyed cooking and spending time together. Our favorite spot was the deck.We will be back. We couldn't get the oven to work to make cookies so maybe some instructions for that. Queen size beds would be better for couples renting. I want to come back with my sisters and there spouses and we will all fight over the kingsize bed. we're tall people.

Place was beautiful, view gorgeous, all 11 of us at times loved every second of our time in Catalina, some had never been there before. Only issue with the house is the dirty carpet and floors, but that didn't hinder us and we would stay at that house again in a heartbeat!

CarlsbadAbsolutely amazing view from nearly every room!
Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
This place is worth it. Went to Catalina for a weekend on a guys trip to go fishing, and we wanted a house to rent. There were only a few places that could sleep 9, so we took the one with the view and it was well worth it. Great kitchen and dinning room that opens up. Beds were comfortable enough. The wrap around deck was nearly worth the price alone.
I would definitely rent this place again if I were to organize another trip. The furniture is not the newest and greatest, but it does. This is not a place to stay for older people out of shape. To get into town you would have to cab it, which is $15-18 for about a 1 mile trip...ouch, or walk down the stairs, which are no joke. We were all men age 29-38 and some would have to stop and take breathers on the way up. So my biggest request on this place and the only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it didn't let you use the golf cart that is already there. I understand that it is a nice cart and you don't want people to ruin it, but that walk sucks.
Other than that, Amazing place! -

San DiegoPretty View, very old house.
Left on 04/09/2012 for a stay in March 2012
This property is obviously all about the view and if that's what you want, you got it! It is the best property you can get as far as view goes. I exactly rented this place for the same reason and me and my guest absolutely enjoyed the gorgeous view. But I have to also mention I was disappointed with the bedrooms and the extremely old furniture. I picked the most expensive property to make sure it's the nicest place, but aside from the view, the property itself is like a 2-3 star. I had rented this place for my Boyfriend's birthday and had invited all his family, the second we walked in I was shocked (embarrassed for my pick) but the view made up for it. Basically the only nice place in the property is the living and dining room for the view which you will be spending most of your time anyway. But I suggest changing some of the extremely old furniture. The house is super old and we had issues with the plumbing, but the management was excellent and they took care of everything immediately and we had an amazing time there. Thanks to management.
The stairs absolutely help getting to downtown, instead of taking cab every time.
Just a suggestion; For Check in I suggest lock box at the front door, instead of going to the office. -

I don't think the view could be beat - from inside the house or on the balcony. The balcony can fit all your guests comfrotably for meals or leisurely sitting. The kitchen is fully equipped both in appliances and tableware. My only "negative" is many of us were sneezing quite a bit - it's an older home and may not be good for those with a lot of allergies.

80th birthday celebration
VermontGreat place for a family reunion
Left on 07/02/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We filled up this house with ten peope and then got a B&B; room in town for one couple. Still, there was plenty of room for all 12 of us to eat at the house. It was perfect, with a large deck and plenty of table space so that we could all eat and cook together. The kitchen is the best equiped of any rental I've ever had: we even made a fancy meringue birthday cake! It was nice that the guests of honor could have the suite on the lower level, which gave them (the 80 year olds) plenty of privacy and peace and quiet. Our only complaint concerned not the house, but the access. You can get there by the road but there is also a very handy public staircase that goes up from the downtown area. Unfortunately the stairs were under construction (and appear to have been in that state for some time). During the day we clambered around the barriers and still used the stairs, but at night we had to take the more circuitous paved road...bring a flashlight, by the way, it was very dark.

San Diego, CAToo many stairs!
Left on 04/22/2010 for a stay in April 2010
Once you got to the house, it was amazing! However, the trek up the almost 200 stairs was ridiculous! Definitely call a taxi to have them get you to and from the house the house. Also, be prepared for more stairs once you're in the house. It is 3 stories and all but one bedroom is down a flight of stairs. The deck is beautifula nd has an amazing view. Also beware of grumpy neighbors. The house has a great stereo system, however the neighbors will complain if you use it no matter what time of day. Even at 3:00 in the afternoon. This is great house for families with older kids. Do not bring a group of middle aged adults to the house because apparently they are too rowdy for the neighborhood. If we're just rating it on the house, it's wonderful. If we're rating the trek and the neighbors, they get 1/2 a star!

Catalina Vacation Rentals is always great to work with. We especially like the ability to pay $50 for a 5 pm check out if no one is checking in that day.
The home is very nice - the kitchen is full on gormet. The only complaint is the steepness of the indoor stairs and musty closets. But the living area and dining room are superb. Would definitely rent again.
The location is VIEW VIEW VIEW - couldn't be a nicer one overlooking the bay and casino. The only drawback to being here are the 150 concrete steps to street level. Lots of Taxis. -

This is a great property that the owners love and care for. The kitchen is great to cook in and the overall quality of the property is first rate...plus you can't beat the view! That alone is worth the price of admission. The house was lacking TV remotes when we checked in but that was taken care of right away. The only negative to this property is the lack of a golf cart as part of the rental property. My in-laws have trouble walking up stairs and hills and really could have used one. You would think that the location of this property (plus the rather rich daily rental cost) would at least warrant a golf cart to be rented with the house. Other than that rather large detail, we loved the property and the amenities that came with it.

Left on 09/25/2009 for a stay in September 2009
This house was fantastic. The view was even better. We ate almost every meal and spent a great deal of our free time just enjoying the view from the huge upper deck. We had all our kids and grand kids with us and the house was so huge that everybody had there own rooms and plenty of space. The house was appointed with some older furnishings but it was very quaint.(except for the new gourmet kitchen). The house reminded us all of days gone by. Everyone felt "very" at home and comfortable there. We put the beautiful kitchen, barbecue and outdoor dining area to great use. There is however "quite" a walk up some 120 stairs to get to the house so take a cab or rent a golf cart. (For the money it would have been nice if the house came with a golf cart) I have to say though that the folks at Catalina Vacation Rentals were fantastic. We arrived early and left late and they were "much more" than accommodating. Thank you, thank you, thank you all at Catalina Vacation Rentals for what we "all" agreed was our best family vacation ever! SEE YOU NEXT SUMMER!...Sincerely Rhett and Denissa Jensen and family

This lovely home fit our extended large family
perfectly. The views from its' hillside locations
were awe-inspiring. All of us are in good physical
condition, otherwise I would not recommend this
rental. Absent a week-long provided golf-cart,(not included) this location is too steep a climb for
the elderly, out-of-shape, or those with disabilities.
For a large family in good shape this home is ideal. -

176 Middle Terrace was a very nice location to stay in. The view was incedible and the residence had a very homey and old Catalina feel to it. We hope to come back soon and stay in this home.
The only detractor was the very long stairs to the beach. Anyone with a health condition should not walk them or prepare to take a taxi everytime you want to go anywhere. The only other issue was the dust/alergens in the bedrooms but we lived through it. -

Left on 01/22/2009 for a stay in August 2008
We loved the view, the balcony and the dining room. Since I enjoy cooking, I was disappointed with the lack of cookware in the home. That was brought to the attention of the rental company and they said they would buy new cookware.
The biggest problem in the home was the electrical situation. The lack of fixtures, outlets and so many bulbs were burned out-it was really frustrating.
The lower bedroom and the connected bedrooms were great, however, none of the kids wanted to stay in the bunk room. They hated the color and there was only one fixture that was hard to access in the dark.
I loved the workout to the house, some did not. Lots of stairs, we had a contest to guess the amount of stairs. Over 100, not telling. I loved the view from the balcony, actually all of us did.
I thought it was very nice that the homeowners gave us a gift for staying, that was much appreciated. If the electrical situation was updated I would stay there again, if not, I would look for another property.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my views. Laura -

It was a family outing, and it needed to accomodate nine people which it did nicely. The kitchen was well equipped with a barbecue on the deck. The furnishings were comfortable. We really liked sitting on the deck to relax and take in the fantastic view. There was a little hike uphill to get to it, but it was well worth the walk. Taxi service was available, and seniors could purchase a coupon that made the taxi very affordable. We would definitely rent it again.

Left on 01/12/2009 for a stay in September 2008
The home was old and many of the things needed updated. The
carpets and drapes needed cleaning or to be replaced with newer
and fresher selections.
When we arrived, we had to call the rental agency to have the
balcony and outside tables cleaned. Although the inside was
cleaned by the service---the outside was filthy.
The thing we enjoyed the most was the views from outside where
we had dinner with the family every night.
The beds were substandard and the mattresses were old---one of
the single beds was broken.
The house was substandard and not worth the rental fee. -

Our group has rented vacation stays previously in Avalon from Catalina Rentals. They are extremely easy to work with...check-in is a breeze...the walk from the Catalina Express can be challenging. This year's rental was breathtaking, sitting atop the hill with panaromic views of Avalon and the bay. The house itself, was comfortable and well maintained, even though the carpets need some attention. But it was in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood with a million dollar view. So nice, that we have already reserved it for our 2009 trip!

This multi-level house has a rockin view of Avalon Harbor from most of the rooms and a number of balconies. The house can accomodate one big family or a few small ones.
The kitchen was modern. The bathrooms were of an older style but everything worked great.
The rental staff was helpful and accessible.
As there are a number of stairs to climb from the promenade area we would suggest taking a cab if you have luggage. Cab fare is reasonable and the cabs are reliable.
All in all a great experience that we would recommend to our friends.
