Water heater did not work and the carpeting is worn and dirty. Heavy pile carpeting is the wrong type for this condo. Steep driveway walk to the front door, but it has a good location and nice water view from the top balcony.
I would recommend it if it looked clean and fresh inside, but not until.

We had a lovely time in this house -- everything was perfect. Civr made it simple -- we popped in once we got to the island, and dropped off the key when we were headed back to the ferry at the end of our trip. Thank you!

The condo was perfect. Great views, clean, nicely decorated and had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again. The only potential issue, is that it is a short, but steep climb to reach the front door.

I liked the condo but we did have some issues. The carpet was a mess, the blinds were falling off, the dishwasher didn't work and the ice maker also didn't work. Also there was a broken chair. I did call about the dishwasher and the manager came within 10 minutes but was unable to fix it. I did enjoy the bathrooms and the bedrooms and the view was very nice. You could see the harbor from the balconies. Note the condo is up a very steep hill so be prepared!! All in all the condo was comfortable but really needs some updating!! Read more

Thank you for your review. We addressed the issues you mentioned. The dishwasher could not be repaired and has been replaced. The blinds and chair were repaired, and the carpet was cleaned, and continues to be cleaned when needed.

My favorite vacation!

This was our first time visiting Catalina and now can not wait to return. Our rental home was gorgeous, fully stocked and so cozy. The view from the 2 upstairs bedrooms is breath taking and the sounds of the boats coming in is something wonderful to wake up to. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the decor of the home was relaxing. My only suggestion would be to have the carpets cleaned. They are fairly dirty, which is something we noticed, but is not a negative reflection on the overall feel. Also, the home is located on a very steep hill and the rental does not come with a golf cart, so being able to walk with ease is important.
The location of the house is perfect. We walked everywhere our entire stay. The Vons (grocery store) is conveniently located down the hill as well as all of the shops, restaurants, and activities.
Our experience with Catalina Island Vacation Rentals was exceptional from start to finish. Every thing was made so simple; from the initial inquiry about a rental to the time we checked out. The staff was great about communicating via email and sending me all of the information and forms I needed in a very prompt manner.
We will be back and we will be using Civr!

Lovely Stay But a Workout to Get There
Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in August 2012 | Michelle M.
This 3-level condo is really nice. It has the newer updated feeling. The kitchen is nice and spacious with granite countertops and the decor is fun and current. There's a nice view of the ocean and it's really a nice place to relax, once you get there. However, the location of this condo can be seen as a negative. It's at the top of a hill up a really steep driveway. We walked everywhere so by the time we got there we were definitely sweating like we just worked out. It would have been nice to have air conditioning at that point but it doesn't. There are only ceiling fans and lots of windows you can open but that didn't help with the humidity. So I would recommend the owners consider putting in air conditioning. Othere than that it's a really nice place that accomdates 8 people comfortably.

Excellent home with great view and brand new kitchen. Excellent location. Property had great large comfy beds that all enjoyed. The condo was clean and well kept. The only issue was a lack of beach chairs/towels in the house for use and the dishwasher did not work very. Cleaned all dishes by hand. Would definatly use again though.
This home is all about the sunrise.

Key pickup and return was simple. The condo was roomy, in great shape, w/ good kitchen and laundry facilities. Great views from both balconies.
It is on fairly steep hill, so be prepared for that.

Really enjoyed the space, got a lot of exercise going up and down the stairs. Location, Location 217a Beacon condo was fabulous. Definetely, will return to a Vacation Rental property next Oct. My only discomfort was no stocking of face towels.

Condo was nice and clean. The climb up the hill was a workout however. The website stated that one room had a queen bed. The bed on the lower level was not a queen - more like a small double bed. The condo slept 8 but the dining table only sat 6 so 2 people had to sit on the couch for dinner.
Amazing and memorable experience

This was by far one of the best vacations I have ever had. Catalina Island is a majestic place to vacation, but the rental property was exquisite. It fit a family of eight comfortably, had anything we might need and was located with a beautiful view.

A group of us stayed at 217 Beacon A for 3 nights and it was EXCELLENT!! We felt right at home as soon as we walked in. Everything was fresh and clean and so much room for everyone. The beds were nice to sleep in and the rooms were very well kept. It was very cosy.
We were close enough that we didn't need to take a taxi everywhere (except getting our SCUBA gear down to the beach). All the shops were great and the places to eat were good as well.
I really don't have one bad thing to say about our stay. It was an excellent experience and we have already agreed that we will stay at 217 Beacon A next time we come out. One suggestion that did come up.... maybe a golf cart could be included in the stay?

The location was good- near to things but not real noisy. The street is steep
and a bit rough at the end of the day, but the house was worth it. All the
conveniences of home were there in a modern, tastefully decorated
environment. We have rented on Balboa Island and the homes are very old and
quaint, but at those prices we like the Catalina home better.
The market is very close, which is nice.
The service was great. Keys were ready on time (actually early) and people
were very friendly.
My only complaint is that the beach was so rocky and it hurt my feet to go in
and out (I'm 54 yrs. old). But serving drinks and food on Descanso Beach was

Great Unit--with a few suggestions

Unir was clean, great view and we enjoyed our stay.
Here are my suggestions. Both bathrooms with showers were in bedrooms except first floor bedroom had no bathroom and had to go in other bedroom to take shower. Inconvenient. Also, we were 8 people and we didn't have 8 chairs at the dining room table. Also, living room was small when we were all in the room. No barbecue..

The condo was beautifully decorated and was very spacious. It has three very comfortable bedrooms and a great kitchen. Everything was at walking distance. We had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful view. Hopefully we will do it again.

This rental was very nice and the agency (Catalina Island Vacation Rental) very helpful in finding a place to accommodate the whole family. Clean, new, ideal location, great view from the rooms upstairs. Minus is the 3rd bedroom downstairs / a bit dark and the bed is not very practical (very high and small). Little improvement: have hangers in the closets would be helpful.

The condo was perfect for us. There were 6 adults and 1 child. The 3 bedrooms made it perfect. The only problem we experienced was the microwave didn't work. So, we had to find another way to warm food. Other than that, we loved our accommodations.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. It was a good central location in Avalon within easy walking distance to the waterfront, grocery store, and restaurants. It has a fabulous view from the upper deck.

Home was nice architecturally, but was not disclosed that there was a major construction project going on next door. when i complained and asked for a partial refund due to the excessive noise (i had to keep windows closed, which did not stop the bulldozer or rock grinding noise), the rental company was unresponsive. i guess they're the only game in town and don't care.

We were pleased with the proximity to everything. The rental was clean, new, tastfully decorated, well stocked, and quiet. Beds were clean and comfortable with a variety of sleeping arrangements. The views were spectacular. Enough room to spread out for privacy yet cozy for games, tv, and entertaining. The kitchen was spacious enough for preparing a full thanksgiving meal! Yes we plan to return.

This was a clean safe place for a little baby who was a crawler at the time. Supervising the stairs was doable.
Hiking up the hill to the beach well that was a little more than we expected..and we have stayed at lot's of hillside places on the island!

This was a lovley property. Very Clean and Fresh with a nice view and short walk to town. Be aware that the last 100 yards are straight up a hill so elderly and medical issues should be considered unless you have a cart.
We had three couples so one slight disadvantage is the downstairs bedroom has no bath so they have to come upstairs to get ready. Nice size living room with plenty of comfortable seating, big LCD TV and DVD with a big table to play cards and eat at. Very big kitchen. Excellant family rental.
