We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Catalina, and 243 Claressa was the perfect place for our extended family get-togethers! Would recommend it in a heartbeat!!

The condo is relatively new with good accommodation. The trouble is Clarssa is the main route through town and noisy all day. The condo up-stairs may be a day care or a bowling alley. There is no sound barrier between floors.

This was a Thanksgiving vaca with my 2 sons, their girlfriends and my granddaughter. My parents moved to Catalina in 1974 and I lived on the island myself for a couple of years so I'd past by these cute condo/townhouses since my parents move. It is as adorable inside as it is on the outside, very quaint and cozy. There has been some attempt to moderize the inside, though spotty. The remodel looks as though every dollar spent was 'pinched'. We actually made a complete Thanksgiving meal in the semi-equipped kitchen and only needed to purchase a couple of disposable pans. However, the kitchen cabinets were disorganized and somewhat grungy. There was plenty of clean towels (and a washer/dryer) and clean linens. The place was tidy but in need of a thorough deep cleaning. Other than that, there is plenty of comfy sitting space for 6-8 people. The location is great (though located on a busy thoroughfare and noisy at times). We all loved staying at 243 Claressa but we were in unison about how relatively inexpensive it would be to take the place up a couple of notches.

We stayed at 243 Claressa for my birthday in late September. We were there for 5 days. The unit is clean, and has a very open layout. We has three couples, and an infant. The unit was big enough that we were not on top of eachother. The toaster broke, and management had a new over within the hour. I would stay there again.

our family loved Catalina!! the house we rented at 243 Claressa was perfect for us!! it was very spacious, comfy & close to the beach. The house was stocked with the stuff we needed to get started...the only thing I would suggest that the house needed is an updated radio with an aux. outlet to plug in our ipod. & a new TV stand, it was about to fall apart...thanks & we look forward to coming back to Catalina & staying again!!!

It was a very special weekend for my 98yr old father and family. We rented 243 Claressa, a lower 3bdrm, 2bath home on Catalina Island. The house was immaculate, warm and welcoming. I loved the fact that a washer/dryer was provided for our 3 day stay. Loved the big bathroom off the kitchen, however, we thought we were getting two full baths and I would say it was a 11/2 bath.
The staff was very helpful, management, Janet was extraordiarily gracious and helpful. I would definitely rent it again and absolutely recommend Catalina Island Vacation Rentals and this house to my friends and family. Thank you again, for a wonderful stay. -

Left on 08/01/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We've stayed in this duplex many, many times. We know avaloan and we know not to expect 4 star accommodations. But the "charm" of the place has worn off. The closets in the main bedroom have to be fought to open and closed. They give new meaning to the work "sticking." The outlet in the bathroom had no cover on it. The back toilet noisily gurgled. We were very careful and luckily it never overflowed. The wifi did not work. We called to get help and were promised someone would come out--they never did. Luckily one of us figured out what to do since one had to work from the house every day. But the absolute worst thing were the upstairs tenants. They had small children--they are year round tenants--and the noise they made jumping, running--it acutally sounded like bowling--was horrible. We could not stand to be in the house when they were home--forget relaxing or taking a nap and the noise went on into the night.

Location was excellent-house was spacious for being a beach/island property. Hardwood floors, two full bathrooms & a decent size kitchen. Golf carts going up & down the street made it a bit noisy at times and you can definitely hear the tenants upstairs, but overall, we would rent this place again in a heart beat!

We had a 3 day stay here, with extended family from Wyoming. It was spacious and clean. The kitchen was stocked well, and the bathrooms were large and spacious. This home does need some repainting and ceiling work done in the bathrooms, but its mostly just cosmetic. There are several fans to keep the home cool. Easy walking distance to all in avalon.

Left on 06/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012
The place actually has 2 full bathrooms with a sink in one of the three rooms. We stayed 2nights and 3 days.
Pros: clean... (clean enough), working and free washer and dryer, full service kitchen with all the utensils you need included, fridge, microwave, stove; dish soap provided, therefore no automatic dishwasher, everything was near by... but avalon is not that big of a town in the first place; linen and towels clean and sufficient, plenty of storage and drawer space in each room; easy and early check in if available.
Cons: unable to access WiFi, no cable T.V. in the living room, small (less than 32" TV) in one room and the living room; occassional stomping and loud thuds above from the second floor; it's off the street so you can hear carts and cars passing by.
Tips for the beach: unless you plan to go outside of avalon... don't bother taking more than 1 or 2 pair of swimming gears... there is not much of a beach around the area; just a block of sand and rocky shoreline (bring water shoes).
Ate at avalon Grille (all right but pricey, pot roast a bit chewy and dry, halibut a bit overseasoned-but moist nonetheless; Buffalo Burger "good" according to my sister, mac & cheese a little dry and bland); service great.
Ate at Lobster Trap (luv their fish sandwiches and sweet potato fries) and had to eat there twice; everybody enjoyed their meals from this place, from shrimp to tacos; service great.
Ate at Steve's Steakhouse: another pricey restau but worth more than avalon Grille; steaks of different kind were great-moist flavored just right; baby back ribs delectable-fell right off the bone; my only complaint---portion size quite small and clam chowder a bit runny-not much content; excellent service
ate at the only Chinese Restau Mr. Nings: affordable food, but not at all comparable to the Chinese food in Los angeles, Alhambra, Monterey Park, Temple, area. But if you want to save a little, it's an okay place to get some food; hot and sour soup pretty good, fried rice okay... -

It was a spacious nice home with basic amenities. Items that we had issues with were: 1. the refrigerator was so loud we couldn't sleep untill we turned it off. 2. We could hear the people upstairs walking back and forth and arguing untill 2:30am one night. 3. The people upstairs caused ceiling water damage when their washing machine flooded.

Huntington Beach, CAComfortable in Catalina
Left on 09/10/2010 for a stay in September 2010
The house was a comfortable and roomy one-level. Furniture and beds were nice and cozy. My only issues were that it was not as well maintaned or as clean as I would have liked (i.e. the whirlpool bathtub jets did not work and were not well cleaned/moldy; the porchlight was burned out, the fan over the dining room table did not work, floors were not clean). The kitchen lacked any kind of dish rack to facilitate washing dishes (no dishwasher). If these issues are cleared up it would warrant 5 stars, but because of these I give it 3.

Had a very good time in Catalina as always, and have rented houses the last 3 years. This home is in desprate need of a carpet cleaning. The house is close to Cressent St. and easy walking to shops and restrants. There was quite a bit of noise from gym above the house.

This was a good place for our small nieces and nephews, there was plenty of room so as not to feel cramped and overwhelmed by small people. The place, however, smelled a little funky and could use a little freshening up.
Overall, good roomy rental on a great street, close to everything. A short easy walk from the ferry dock, even with luggage. -

We had very little contact with the staff of Catalina Island Vacation Rentals, but each experience was very pleasant. From making the reservations to checking in and out, everyone was very helpful and nice.
The house itself was great. It was clean and nicely furnished. It had everything we needed and more. The only problem we had was the knob for the deadbolt on the front door didn't always lock or unlock the door. It seemed like is wasn't fully engaged with the mechanisim.
Thanks for all your help.

Overall, the house met our needs. However, the rugs were very dirty and stained. Screens were missing from some of the windows and we were uncomfortable leaving windows open during the night.
It is a busy street and there was lots of golf cart traffic. Not quiet if that is what is wanted. -

Left on 09/17/2009 for a stay in September 2009
I was attracted by pictures of the hardwood floors. And they are beautiful. But there is very dirty looking carpet in the bedrooms and "sun porch" adjacent to the living room. It should be replaced. That said, the house was clean and we enjoyed our stay. Really liked all the ceiling fans. I would also suggest providing some hand towels and wash cloths.
Convenient location- be advised that "two blocks" is the city equivalent of at least three. Close to Von's express and the ferry dock. Also, due to the wiring, wall plugs are scarce so reading in bed was not an option. -

Our family has been renting from CVR for well over 10 years. Usually the properties are well maintained and very pretty. Though this property is very charming and with lots of character, I must say there was a strong mold odor. So much so, even the linen smelled like mold. There was also a gap under the front door that was well over 1 inch. We had to resort to placing a towel to keep the cold air out. The heater also took over an hour to work. On the plus side, the dining room was fabulous, the living room was spacious, the bedrooms were not too small and that little table in the extra adjacent room was great for poker playing.

We spent a mini vacation in Avalon at 243 Claressa and had a wonderful time. We were there to celebrate my mom's birthday and this house made it possible for our family to have a great hassle-free vacation. This is
the first time that we stayed in a vacation rental home instead of a hotel while visiting Catalina-- and it was perfect. The
house was close to the beach, just a short walk down the road. It was easy to walk around Avalon and go sight-seeing. We especially enjoyed renting a boat for a few hours one day to enjoy the beautiful sea air and sun in Avalon harbor. Everything was in order when we arrived, the house was very clean and neat. We'd definitely recommend this house - great for families. We would love to go back one day again to beautiful Catalina!
One recommendation: Bring extra towels for the beach! -
