My husband I decided on Catalina for our first family vacation with our 1 year old son. We were very pleased with our choice! We loved the little house, it was a perfect fit for our family of 3 and comfortable. It was close to town and allowed us to come back at "nap time" each day.
The only complaint we had was the noise, the street is kind of busy until late in the evening and the golf carts are pretty loud.

We loved the location of this house to downtown. The kids could go walk to Icecream or Store and we didn't have to go. By the way our kids are 16,15,9. The House was cute besides it leaning on the left side. Would have been better not having fulltime renters above us so no sleeping in for us they were loud. But all in all it was a great house to rent for the week.
Great place to stay!

We loved this rental house and had a fantastic vacation. I only have one minor comment about the smell in the bedroom in the back. It was not over-powering, but I think someone should figure out if it was a temporary thing or something that could be fixed. Otherwise, the accommodations were great and we would consider staying there again in the future!
No frills, but nice

The living area and master bedroom was great, but the second room was too small! If you just want a place to crash, this is a good one. There's no exhaust fan, so cooking in there makes the whole place smell of whatever you're cooking. The bathroom is in the master bedroom so if you have people that need to void at night then dress appropriately at night. But for a family of 4 with small kids this would be a great place. We liked it and it served it 's purpose for us.
The after hours service was good and reliable.

This is the second year we have stayed in this house. Both times we
were there for 7 nights and it was perfect for the 2 of us . We go for the Jazz Festival so we do a lot of walking out to the Casino for the concerts and this is a great location to stay. Also easy walk to the beach and restaurants. Everything in this house is homey and comfortable - bed, sofas, and kitchen. Also love the big TV!

We really enjoyed renting this home. It was very centrally located, comfortable and cozy. My husband and I stayed here with another family we are friends with, who have a toddler. As opposed to renting hotel rooms, this gave us more privacy and more space. Plus, we were all able to relax together instead of going back to our respective hotel rooms. We cooked and ate at the house which really helped cut back on costs for the vacation as a whole. The main downside is that there is only 1 bathroom and to get to it, you need to go into one of the bedrooms. So if you are not in that bedroom and you need to use the bathroom at night, it feels somewhat intrusive to the couple in that bedroom. So this property is ideal for 1 large family instead of 2 small families. But, regardless, we had a great time and really enjoyed this home. We would stay here again.
A few enhancements to lovely 304 Sumner would improve all our st

We have stayed in Hamilton Cove units primarily, but also in avalon proper; the Mermaid House was last year. Your home is beautiful with the open dark wood ceiling and crisp white wall and shudder paint. Our family of 5's suggestions are: dump the oversized living room furniture (past reviews note the sofa bed's discomfort and it has unfortunately destroyed your new carpeting beneath it) for a futon and perhaps 3 small club chairs. Your very rustic dining table works, but for price we pay it could instead be in the patio off the back alley and replaced inside. Your plastic glasses leak so please replace them periodically. Finally, request "housekeeping" to thoroughly clean the kitchen and not rely on renters to leave it better than found as it was not clean for us. Your location is ideal and your shared family history is very heartwarming. We too have shared a long love of the Island from boating beginning in the 20's through the 80's, employment, and now family vacations annually. Aloha

We had a wonderful stay at our rental house. Near everything...Only disappointment was the pull out couch. I thought originally that it wouldn't be that bad but it was horrible...I think my husband is going to have a few visits to the chiropractor to fix this one and he only slept on the pull out couch for one night..
Other than that I would recommend this house to anyone..

We were very pleased with the charm and location. So easy to get around with our bikes and our boys had their skateboards and were free to come and go. We were pleased with the large TV and games boards provided for evening entertainment, The kitchen was perfect for morning breakfast and afternoon snacks. The only negative was one bathroom to share, this is a very old house, but the charm of the family home with a history on the island made it worth it.

The house was in excellent shape and was just as described. We took our two grandchildren and two of their friends for the week . They said it was one of the best vacations ever !! House is located on the flats an easy walk to the beach. Had all the amenities for cooking but still close to many fine restaurants.(we did both) Only complaint is the queen bed mattress needs to be replaced !

We enjoyed our stay on Sumner. The bunk bed room was a little small but we made it work. The other half of our family stayed one block over. The next time, we will plan earlier and get an upstairs / downstairs unit.

It was great to stay in a home..compared to a hotel room. We spent more time there than expected because it was relaxing and nice for the kids to run around. The beds were very uncomfortable ..last night slept much better on the floor but overall a very nice vacation w the family.

My mom, my 2 children (age 6 & 7) and I decided to spend a couple of nights on Catalina. We decided on a house instead of a hotel because it seemed like it would have more room for the kids to spread out.
The location is perfect and located so close to everything. The house is has all necessities and fairly comfortable.
Only drawbacks are:
1- Not great quality of sheets, towels, etc. (this may not be up the owner, but rather the housekeeping service)
2- The sleeper sofa was nearly impossible to get back into the sofa once it was pulled out. The 2nd night, I just slept on the sofa so I would not have to hassle with trying to put it away in the morning.
3- I wish it was slightly nicer quality. Just seemed to be slightly "bare bones" in regards to furnishings & sheets/ towels.

We really appreciated Catalina Island Vacation Rental's service. Everyone we spoke to was kind, and gave us all the information we needed. We even spoke to one about rental properties in the area, and he gave us answers to so many questions. We also got extra time in our home since there was no one checking in that afternoon. The home was fine, but I just think all the properties are so expensive for one night! Also, our location was a little loud but close to the shops, so it was nice to have a short walk but at night it was loud. Overall, a great vacation for our family!

This was our first year in this house. It was very cozy and the furniture was comfortable. We loved the story behind the house and felt like part of the family. All the beds were comfy.
The only downfall was the bathroom in the master bedroom. We had people above us and when they got intimate not only could we hear them but the whole house shook, the fan swayed and it literaly felt like an earthquake. Needless to say, we felt many earthquakes during our stay. At least it gave us something to laugh about.

First of all great location, great price and the place is very clean and I loved the decor! But, I sure would have like to have known that the bathroom is in the bedroom, therefore, we had to disturb the couple who had the room all through the night with going in and out of the bedroom. Secondly, we had quite the disturbance in the room upstairs. The couple staying up there had a knock-down fight, we heard thuds, crying and screaming. We weren't sure at what point we should call the police. The days were great in this cute little cottage but the nights were hard to get through.
Also, there were no trash cans to be found. We ended up having to leave the trash on the front porch. I hope that was ok.

Nice place to stay...love the family story of Flick's flat. Bunk beds are perfect for the kids. Only two cautions....First, the foundation seems to have sunk around the home's edged so the floor is higher in the middle than on the outer edges. Not a big deal, but kind of wierd sleeping in a bed where your head is lower than your feet. Second, there is a studio long-term rental above the master bedroom. Heard bible recitations late into the night as if the person was in the same room. Not exactly what I like to be lulled to sleep by. Overall, a good place to stay and very central to town.

We have rented homes in Avalon before. This one had some good points. Roomy enough, close enough to the beach, and the kids loved the 50" TV. The ambient noise level was a bit of a problem in the mornings especially. It is located near a very busy corner. It was a 4-way stop, so all vehicles has to stop and rev their engines. And the house is, of course, at street level. There was a separate second-story partial above us that was rented by someone else, and he wasn't loud, but did walk over our heads sometimes at night. And there were an awful lot of leaf-blowers early in the morning. By contrast, we spent two days after this at the Hotel Atwater. On the third floor, and with better sound insulation, we slept much better! So it's an issue if you want to sleep in mornings, which is something we like to do on vacation.
The Catalina Rentals office people were first-rate. No problems with them at all on reservations, etc. Read more

CIVR provided great property recommendations to suit my family, a group of six. The home we selected gave us a family atmosphere from cooking breakfast at leisurely pace and planning our daily activities to playing cards and reflecting on the fun filled day.
The beach, restaurants, grocery store and shops were all just a couple of minutes walk away and easy to find. I've aways been a little leary of a home not being what the renting agent says that it is, but in this case, CIVR office is right there in town and in the middle of everything. They are truely a honest representative of this property.

What a great few days! Now that we have a small child and a baby
it's hard for us to find a hotel that meets our needs (two
bedrooms), so this time we decided to give a vacation rental a try.
It was our first experience with one and it worked out perfectly...
we will definitely be doing this again.
The rental we stayed in was pretty much as advertised... A short
walk to the beach, a great television, and the two bedrooms we
required. Some of the chairs at the dining room table were a bit
worn and rickety, but overall we loved it. Very charming and comfy!
We had found other reviews of this property online and a couple of
them had mentioned noise... we had no such problems. Yes there
was an upstairs tenant (towards the back of the rental... over the
master bedroom to be precise) but his noise levels seemed
reasonable and didn't bother us at all. I should mention that we
have a white noise generator that we use (got it for the baby) and it
comes in handy, but even without I'm sure we would have been
fine. The bathroom could be awkward for some as it is only
accessed through the master bedroom.
And while the website made no claims about this, we were happy to
find the house to be fairly baby-safe. It took only a few baby-
proofing precautions by us to feel comfortable letting our baby
Also, the staff at the rental agency were great! From booking the
rental over the phone, to checking in, to a visit from an agent to
show us how to use the home entertainment center, they were all
extremely considerate and helpful. A real joy! We definitely will visit
again in the future although next time we'll be looking into a bigger
place so we can haul along some friends or grandparents.

I had a friend recommend this house to stay at while we were at a wedding in Catalina. It was a great price (comparable to a hotel) with all the comforts of home. It was nice to have a couch to rest on, a plasma to watch and a kitchen to save some money on eating out. I would recommend this place for a couple or a couple with kids. We had some friends stay with us and the master bath is in the master bedroom so we had to leave the door open so they could use the bathroom. Other than that it was a very close walk to the down town, clean and comfortable. The staff was great too. They let us stay in the house two hours after check out to wait for our ferry. That took a ton of stress off.

Nice Place - Noisy Neighbor

Rental itself was very nice. Had lots of "character". Exactly the kind place you would expect to rent by the beach. The rental is part of a duplex, with a full time resident living upstairs. He was a little noisy at times late at night or very early morning. The street noise could also be a little much at times - especially when you had to have the windows open to get fresh air. The unit itself was very well maintained and comfortable. We had a wonderful time and would recommend it as a place to stay.

Location, Location, Location!!
Great little pad, very comfortable.
Walk to everything.
It's in the "flats" at the corner of Beacon and Sumner. This means that it is a freeway of gas powered golf carts starting pretty early in the A.M.
I got used to it, but some people may be more sensitive. It would be great if the island went to electric carts only.
Other then that.. not much to complain about...had a great time!
