This great house, the lower level of a duplex, recently received a face lift inside and out...new flooring, new paint, new wood blinds, and more. The full bath is located across from the bedroom with the double bed. The bedroom with twin beds has a half bath. It is a great beach house for families, and it's just three short blocks to the water. Rental of this vacation home includes complimentary use of owner’s golf cart.

We loved our first trip to Catalina. Here are some specifics about this house:
Pros:
This house was the perfect size for our family of four. The location was great. It was an easy walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. It came with a golf cart, which was a true plus. We were able to really explore and get a feel for the island.
Cons:
The house needs a lot of TLC! The floors were filthy. This is no understatement. We had to wash our kids' feet before bed every night, not from playing at the beach, but from walking barefoot in the house. We called and asked that housekeeping come and clean the floors. They came by while we were out one afternoon, but alas the floors, still dirty. Oh and by the way, I hope your kids aren't light sleepers. The floor squeaks loudly with every step you take. The couch could use a good cleaning too. Our older son plopped onto the couch and a cloud of dust flew up.
I can't tell if the home owners are in the middle of fixing the place up or just lousy painters. The linen closet with extra bedding had no shelves, so everything was just tossed inside. There are many unfinished projects.
For the price we paid for this place, I would have expected something in better condition. -

This is a great cottage very close to the town and all of the happenings! It was perfect for our family of 6! The golf cart is a plus and we had so much fun cruising the island with it. The bathrooms were clean and nice. The only downfall was that the pull out couch was not comfortable at all and the double bed was also not comfortable, the owner of this property needs to take care of this issue or they will have problems. All in all we survived the sleeping issue and had a ball and enjoyed the property very much1 also the kitchen was equipped very well.

The house was a perfect size for our family. Plus, the use of a golf cart was such an added pleasure. Even though we were close enough to walk to everything in town, it was fun to ride around and view the beautiful scenery.

Our cottage, located within minutes of the beach, provided us with the comforts of home and some: wide-screen tv's, kitchen appliances, a living room surrounded with windows in true Catalina style, washer/dryer and, thanks to the rental management agency, Catalina Vacation Rentals, plenty of towels, and clean as a whistle.

We have rented this property a couple of times, and it is perfect for our 6 person family. It was nice. The cart is a nice option to have. We have been to Catalina many times, and this house being centrally located, works nicely. We will definitely rent again.

We rented this adorable cottage with another couple, it was perfect! Close to everything and it came with a personal golf cart!! The only disappointing part was the back door didn't lock. Other than that everything was clean and very well kept. We will rent this rental again.

Left on 06/08/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We had the upper and lower unit at 336 Sumner for a large group. Worked perfectly for mostly adults and a few very young children. The lower unit has a golf cart, which came in so handy for grocery store trips. We also enjoyed the BBQ.
The best part about this unit is its central location with easy access to the golf course and a short walk to the beach and main street. Also, the rental company was so gracious with early check-in since the unit was available when we arrived that morning.
Only down side here was the rather small kitchen with limited counter space. -

We were very suprised when we found out that we would have to stay an extra night on the island as a storm had caused the ferries to stop operating. The rental company had to inform us and let us use their computers so we could adjust our monday business schedule. Above and beyond customer service. the place was great, close to everything and the golf cart is key (especially with the kids). Would recommend to anyone.

Left on 04/28/2010 for a stay in April 2010
Rented 336 Sumner (lower) for 2 nights. Loved the Golf cart. Nice little cozy cottage. Wonderful location ~ 1 block from the main street.
Issues faced:
Strong odor in the house - present when we came and when we left the unit. We kept windows open while we were inside but didn't help. Definitely needs to be looked at.
Squeaky master bed - Unable to turn on bed without waking up the partner. This was a major concern.
Squeaky floorboards - made lots of sound when walking. Minor inconvenience and probably because the flooring was new.
Bath Towels - Looked very old. Should be replaced.
Wouldn't stay again in the same unit but a different one and must be better than this one. -

We usually rent larger properties in Avalon, but this was a trip for just our family of five (three small kids 6,4,1). The house was very nice, and the remodeling is nice too. This is not a critique, but would like to let people know that there were not games and books in this house like we're used to enjoying in Avalon homes. The golf cart was nice to have, but not needed for most stomping around Avalon. New TV's with HD and Satellite is a nice perk, but there were no DVD players. These may be coming as we don't think the remodeling is complete.

We rented the little house at 326 Sumner for New Year's Eve 2009. There were two couples and it worked out perfectly for the 4 of us. We especially enjoyed and appreciated having the golf cart as part of the rental. We used it to drive to the Casino for the New Year's Eve ball. Walking that distance in high heels would have been a pain. (literally) Everything was clean and decorated nicely. The place did smell musty when first entered. It would have been nice to have a rug in the living room to make it seem a little warmer. Everything worked well and we cooked a small dinner using the stove and the oven with no problem. Sharing a house was the perfect choice for the four of us. It was a pleasant experience. We would definitely rent from Catalina Island Rentals in the future.

The people at Catalina Island Vacation Rentals were there if you ask them a question but not very friendly or helpful. It was a challenge to just get them out of their chair. The prices were ok, a little high considering how nice of a condo you can rent around the corner for a little more money. The house has a very unsafe gas leak that I have heard it has had for a long time. It needs cleaning, paint very badly and the pillows are beyond throw away. Don't get me wrong, it was a place to sleep and the golf cart was a wonderful bonus. I am used to much nicer accommodations even in Mexico but Catalina is a wonderful place and I will be back next year. I may rent the same house again but I will bring pillows.

well appointed and supplied kitchen and living spaces. tvs in every room, stereo, fresh linen
I would return to Catalina Island vacation Rentals and stay at 336 Sumner though it might be refreshing to change to rental trusting that all the properties are as well managed and provisioned as 336.
Loved the golf cart and used it all over. Especially when compared to the $40.00 per hour standard rental rate. It was an important reason for choosing a duplex over a hotel. We were a group of four. a married couple and a father and his adult daughter. -

We could tell they were trying to update the house, but it still needs work. There was a door out the back room that went into a hall and upstairs. We thought for the price it would be a nicer home.
It was clean, but had a musty smell when we first went in. We had to open the windows to air it out. It was nice having the golf cart and it came in handy. -

A+ on everything! We liked the rooms and the kitchen. We liked the fact there was a tv in every room. The kitchen even had all the pots & pans we needed. It even had two couches. The Golf Cart WAS very much used. The location was far enough away but close enough to get to the things in case you didn't have a cart. We will definately stay there again!

Left on 07/23/2009 for a stay in June 2009
I enjoyed Catalina Island and will definitely go again soon. It was great to have the use of a Golf cart which was on our "must have" list, and we were glad we didn't go without it. The house on the other hand had a terrible odor. The smell was even worse with the combination of air freshners and no air condition. The chairs in the dining room were broken and the bed linens were terribly itchy and unattractive. I think with some improvments this house would be perfect, but definitely not worth spending almost $300 per night on.

Overall, the place was nice. There were a couple of minor inconveniences, specifically no remotes for the TV's in the bedrooms and no DVD remote. We had a power outage in the kitchen while trying to cook breakfast, but other than that, the place was nice.

Left on 01/21/2009 for a stay in December 2008
We spent two nights and three days, post Christmas, at Catalina Island: four seniors and one adult. 336 Sumner (lower) is conveniently located down Sumner, the middle street to Everything in Catalina: eating places, beach and piers, casino/movie, and ticket sales for bus trips.
We selected this particular bungalow for several reasons: TWO bathrooms, 52" TV in main room (plus other TVs), and accompanying golf cart parked in front. The bungalow was clean and inviting with a "woman's touch."
A suggestion is that ALL lightbulbs be in operation throughout and ALL clocks be working before guests arrive. Nightlights in the bathrooms would be very much appreciated.
This residence will always be our FIRST CHOICE when we visit Catalina! -

My husband was very reluctant to spend our "getaway" in Catalina, thinking it was an "adult vacation". Being that I lived there 20 years ago, I knew it was a very special place - even for families. The Sumner home absolutely made our trip!!! We were blocks from town, accomodated our family very comfortably and the golf cart was an extra special bonus!! My husband wants to stay in the same home again soon!!
