Left on 04/23/2014 for a stay in April 2014 | The best house on the island.
This is our fourth Spring Break at 337 Sumner. We love this little house. I am a papermaker and the front porch has a large long table which is perfect for me to work and also have breakfast. The beds are comfortable and there are plenty of dishes. The rental company is excellent if something is wrong they fix it right away. The house is for sale but we hope we can still get it next year to celebrate our fifth year. The price is also quite reasonable. It's great for 3-4 people.

I hate to say this but this was the worst of all of my Catalina trips, as far as a rental is concerned. The house was dirty you open the windows to get a breeze and you see cob webs and dirt inside the windows. They should hose the place down their were cob webs that have been there for sometime. A leak in the bathroom so when you flushed the toilet water was leaking out. The molding in the bathroom was black in some areas they could at least use bleach to turn it white. The kitchen floor was dirty. The street the rental is on is a major street constantly busy. Other renters were loud across the street and the street in front of the house was clean when we arrived but, someone had gotten sick outside and it was there all week, disgusting...We had the plumber come to the house and he was outstanding explaining the problem with the toilet was due to a problem Catalina was having but it was still leaking.

The cottage was quaint and it was exactly the way it was described to us. It was very comfortable for my husband, daughter,& I.
There were some electrical outlets that did not work and a few bulbs were missing from the ceiling fan / light. The remote control to the TV in the bedroom was missing. These were the only negatives.
We had everything we needed in the kitchen. We had enough towels for the week and enough paper products to last the entire week. The beds were very comfortable In general, the decor could be updated. The price was very reasonable for this island paradise!
I would recommend this rental to any family.

The location was nice. Easy walking distance to beach and town. We enjoyed both the front room, the kitchen, and the front porch. It is however a very noisy road with a lot of golf cart traffic. When we opened the shades in the bedroom we were shocked to find the view was of an old rusty appliance in a strange walled off room attached to the house. The bedroom was oppressive and the furniture was old and unattractive. In the bathroom we found an old disgusting looking toilet brush just sitting out in full view. Totally unacceptable! Touch up painting needs to be done and old furniture needs to be replaced. We were told there would be extra bedding for the futon couch in the living room. When we went looking for it all we could find was an old cheap ripped up polyester blanket. Again, totally unacceptable! We own a vacation rental ourselves and would never subject our guests to this kind of situation!!! Read more

The house was equiped with all that was needed but I feel maybe it's time the house gets redone. Its a little older and the lights would go on and off through out the day and night... some outlets didnt work... The coffee table looked as though it was getting ready to fall apart... the front door ( all doors really) was broken and hard to open... all that was just due to it being older im assumimg, but one thing that was a little disterbing was that we found an old used diper in the room. And we didnt bring kids :( With the exception of some remodeling it was in a great location and had all that one needs! Thanx again for havn us. Read more

I must say that I am biased... I am a family friend of the family that owns this property. But that's what I love about it most, its truly homey place and was the best place we could spend for our honeymoon! Cute, and quaint, perfect for relaxing, cooking meals, and spending lots of time on the porch enjoying all aspects of avalon. Conveniently located to the heart of avalon, and steps from the beach, restaurants and shopping. The only minor draw backs that are totally do-able and tolerable are, that its located on a street that gets a good amount of golf-cart traffic and TV is small (but that's not why you go to
Catalina). You won't be disappointed; my husband and I will be back for many anniversaries to come!

My friend and I both enjoyed our stay at 337 Sumner. Comfortable beds with everything you could need from a kitchen and huge patio. There are plenty of extra towels and cool hooks in the bathroom - never ran out of hot water and we take long showers. Very convenient walk to town... safe place to stay and just chill. Highly recommended.

I LOVED THIS LITTLE BEACH HOUSE, THE BEST FEATURE WAS THE PORCH, AND ALSO THE FACT THAT YOU COULD FIT SO MANY PEOPLE WITH 2 BEDS AND A COUCH THAT FOLDS OUT TO A BED. THE LOCATION WAS PERFECT AND
MANY AMENITIES, ONLY RECCOMENDATIONS ARE TO PUT THE TV IN THE KITCHEN OR LIVING ROOM, NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR EVERYONE TO WATCH A MOVIE IN THAT ONE BEDROOM. LOVED ALL THE HOOKS FOR ALL THOSE TOWELS...SUSAN

Sweet Little Cottage with Great Porch

We try to get to Catalina at least once per year and love to rent this little cottage. We find it very cozy and it has a great size porch for lounging or eating or playing games. It's also great for people watching. The place is always clean and has a homey, family feel to it. The kitchen is stocked with just about whatever you need. The neighbors who live nearby have always been very friendly. Just a short walk down to the beach and boardwalk. We highly recommend this place!!

Noisy & Small but still Nice.

Cute Catalina Cottage HOWEVER 337 Sumner is EXTREMELY small. It doesn't look that small on the website (no square footage listed.) but it is tiny. One person in the kitchen at a time and you can't open the fridge door all of the way without hitting the other side of the kitchen.
Sumner is the MAIN thorough fare to all other streets so it is VERY noisy. The golf carts, et al, start at 7ish a.m. so don't event think about sleeping in. The traffic noise ruins the relaxing atmosphere and it doesn't stop until 8 at night. On the 4th day, I finally had to make myself change my attitude and realize I had no control over the noise level so I couldn't stress over it!
Now for positive things about this property ~ we love Catalina and the house is centrally located ~ not too far from the beach/town. 337 Sumner has a great covered patio, with a large table, perfect for dinner outside ~ (ignore the noise.) The home is decorated "beachy" and is clean. The surrounding neighbors (residents of Catalina) are friendly.
Bring your own bath towels, dish towels & cloths and one ply tp! 6 towels for 4 people for 7 days does not cut it. The shower enclosure has recently been remodeled although it tends to drip on the floor and the bathroom door has "swelled" so it doesn't close all of the way. This sounds like a bad review but it's not! We had a good time however I think future vacationers should know the pros/cons of 337 Sumner. :)
